~Jade~
I'm not in such a good mood when I wake up the next morning. I kick my feet so Tori goes flying over the edge of my bed. I sit up and leer at her. She opens her mouth, as if to say something, and then shuts it, remembering our little bet.
"Does the puppy not like being kicked out of bed?" I sneer at her.
She ignores me and I scowl. "Do you hear me, Vega? Now come!" I whistle.
With a glare in my direction, she slowly walks over to me. "Good dog." I tell her and snap my fingers at her as I roll out of bed. "Heel."
I open the back door and point to the bushes in my backyard. "Go do your business."
Tori stares at me with wide, pleading brown eyes. They're kind of cute... No! She is my dog slave and she needs to get out there. "Git!"
Now, if you're thinking if I'm going to actually watch my "dog" do her business, you're crazy. I walk into my kitchen and open a can of dog food. It's utterly repulsive, but I put it down anyways and whistle for Tori.
She walks in on all fours and then spots the dog food. Her eyes go from me to the food.
"Eat it." I command. She shivers and takes a bite, gagging. I laugh at her and watch as she struggles to keep every bit down. Finally, she's finished. I pick the bowl up and throw it in the dishwasher.
Suddenly, she starts gagging. I'm not cleaning up Tori's mess! I throw her over my shoulder and run to the bathroom. She retches and gags and chokes as the dog food makes another appearance.
"No more canned food for you, I guess," I tell her. "Now get outside so you won't make a mess in the house!"
I lock the back door and leave her outside while I visit Cat.
My stupid, red-headed friend jumps up and down when she sees me. "Hi Jade, did you bring Tori?"
"She's currently throwing up her breakfast in the backyard." I tell Cat with a smirk.
She gasps. "That's so mean!"
"No, if stupid Tori had refused to eat it, this wouldn't have been a problem. I wouldn't force her."
Cat stares at me with wide eyes. "That's mean,"
"She lost a bet." I change the subject. "Come on, let's go shopping."
"Shopping? Yay, I love shopping!"
At the pet store, I pick up a dog crate. Cat asks me, "Is that for Tori?"
"No it's for my grandmother."
"Really?"
"No, it's for Tori!" I throw my hands up. Did she get dropped on her head when she was a baby?
Cat smiles at me. "You should take her to the beach."
"I have a pool."
"But the beach is more fun. And puppies love the beach. Once, my brother took a puppy to the beach."
"Oh God," I groan.
"We didn't see the puppy again," Cat claps her hands and then says sadly, "I hope the puppy's okay."
"Well, you will sadly see Tori after I bring her to the beach."
"You're going to take her there?"
"I guess."
"Can I come?"
"NO!"
When I get home, I let Tori in. She shies away from me.
"I'm not going to hurt you," I tell her and offer her a slice of pizza. "Look, girl, it's your favorite."
Tori eventually grabs the pizza from me and retreats into the corner farthest away from me. I would be lying if I said it didn't hurt my feelings.
"Hey, girl, do you want to go to the beach?" I ask her gently. She ignores me, so I grab her and throw her over my shoulder. She struggles and whines at me.
"I'm not going to hurt you." I promise and put her in the crate, which is in the backseat of my truck.
When we finally get to the beach, Tori is still shaking. I pick her up and lift her out of the crate, then put her down in the sand. She runs away from me and doesn't even look back.
I'm not worried until an hour later, when the sun begins to set. I call, "Tori! Here girl!"
Nothing. I start to get slightly scared and start my truck. I drive off in the direction Tori went.
After ten minutes of driving, I see Tori, walking slowly, dragging her feet. I stop the truck and call, "Tori!"
She breaks into a run at the sight of me and I jump out of my truck, chasing after her. She may have gotten a headstart, but I catch her easily and throw her over my shoulder.
Once we get home, I run the water for a bath and put Tori in the bathroom. She is still standing there, motionless, five minutes later, so I undress her and put her in the water. I scrub her body down with soap and shampoo her hair. For the first time in a while, I feel bad for her. I was pretty mean to her today, considering I forced her to eat something that made her sick and just humiliated her.
I dry her off once she's clean and lay out a change of her clothes. She puts them on, watching me intensely the whole time. I lift her up and put her on my bed. She looks at me in alarm. I know she thinks she's going to get kicked off, like she did this morning.
"It's okay, you have permission," I tell her and she lays down, but watches me with wary eyes. I ignore her and begin editing my script I wrote for my Screenplay class until I see Tori sleeping.
Then, I quietly shut off the lights and lay in the dark, thinking. I need to be nicer to Tori. I can't have her run away; then everyone'll hate me. The dark part of my brain adds, You also like her company. I ignore that part of my head and then allow sleep to take over.
