Thank you to everyone who reviewed the previous chapter. Also thank you for being so patient with my inability to update this story as quickly as I would have like. A lot has been going on in my life that has made it almost impossible for me to update this story, but here is the next chapter. This chapter is going to contain some flashbacks in the beginning just to show you guys how she ended up where she was before writing the part from the book that I really want to write about but with my twist to it. I really hope you guys like this chapter and keep with this story as I work to update it on a more frequent basis.
The Runaway Twin
Chapter 2
Third Person
Bella rubbed her stomach thinking of what is going to happened next. It still hasn't been decided whether or not she was going to be able to return to Hogwarts this year. She knew that being pregnant would cause some panic among her friends and the fact that she was practically attached at Snape's hip as of right now. Harry wouldn't be able to contain his anger if he knew that she was with Snape practically the entire time since she left the Dursley's house. After spending a couple days at Hogwarts Dumbledore, Remus, Sirius, and Snape came to talk to her.
Flashback
Bella was lying on her bed thinking about her brother, her friends, and Fred when she heard the door open and footsteps walking in her direction. She turned to find her godfather, Sirius, Dumbledore, and Snape standing just inside the doorway.
"What is he doing here?" Bella growled out. She was none too pleased with seeing Snape after learning that he was double crossing Dumbledore. Dumbledore trusted him and he betrayed Dumbledore, and she refused to trust him as a result.
"Bella," Dumbledore sighed. He knew convincing Bella to go with Snape would be a struggle.
"He betrayed you Dumbledore, Snape is working with Voldemort," Bella yelled at him not caring that she was being disrespectful or the fact that she just outed Snape to Dumbledore, Remus, and Sirius knowing that Snape was a part of the Order.
"I know," Dumbledore replied with a sigh. "I was the one who told him to ally himself with the Death Eaters."
"Why?" Bella asked. Why would Dumbledore want Snape to become a Death Eater? It made no sense to her, but then again sometimes Dumbledore made no sense at all.
"To protect you," Dumbledore stated, "and Harry…. And Draco"
"Why would Draco need protecting and how does Snape being a Death Eater protect Harry and I?" Bella had so many questions that she had no idea where to begin. She just wanted to know what was going on and how they planned on helping her and her child. She knew that she wanted this child and she would do whatever she needed to do to protect her child.
"It's hard to turn away from one's family especially when that family is the Malfoy's" Dumbledore stated.
End Flashback
Dumbledore continued to explain everything to Bella, his plan to protect Harry and herself as well as her baby. The baby was an unexpected change for Dumbledore but he felt that it would actually help their situation. Bella was all about protecting the people she loved even if it meant working with the people she believed to be in the wrong. All Snape had to do was convince Voldemort that protecting her child was more important to Bella than standing by her brother. She still remembered the conversation between Snape and Voldemort.
Flashback
Bella and Snape were walking side by side as they approached what she assumed was either Malfoy Manor or a Manor belonging to a member of the order. She kept looking behind her expecting someone to attack. Even though Voldemort knew that Snape was bringing one of the Potter twins, she still expected someone to jump out at her, yet again who would be stupid enough to go against Voldemort.
"Are you ready for this?" Snape asked her once they reached the door.
"No, but now is better than never." She responded
When they walked into the house, everyone immediately turned to look. The first person she noticed was Bellatrix, and she was immediately filled with hatred. She made a move to grab her wand, but was stopped by Snape squeezing her hand reminding her why they were there.
"Isabella Potter," purred Voldemort moving towards the two. "I never expected you to be reaching out to me. After all, you and you brother have been trying to stop me for the past six years."
"I've decided that I must put my child first," Bella stated her voice shaking as she did so. She was trying to hide not only the fear, but also her hatred and disgust for the man in front of her. She had to prove to Voldemort that she was truly there for his help and not as some kind of trick.
"I don't like it," Bellatrix snapped stepping out from the rest of the group.
"QUIET!" Voldemort yelled back, turning to face her. "Who are you to question my judgement?"
"It's not you that I question, My Lord," Bellatrix stated. "It is those two that I don't trust."
Bella thought Voldemort would side with Bellatrix over Snape considering Bellatrix spent years in prison for the cause, while Snape got off scot-free. Voldemort moved forward watching the two like a hawk. His eyes taking in every movement they made.
"My Lord," Snape started. "Bella just wants to protect her child. She spent months away from her brother and knows that he would not be pleased with this development. She is willing to turn her back on her family to protect the child that she is carrying. Shouldn't it be our job to show her that we can protect her unlike her pathetic brother?"
"If protection is what she wants, then protect her we shall" Voldemort stated with a smile that just insured he was already forming a plan in his mind.
End Flashback
Bella was brought out of her thoughts by voices from downstairs. She quietly made her way out of the room and towards the stairs. When she looked downstairs she found Narcissa and Bellatrix standing in the doorway
"Severus," she said in a strained whisper. "May I speak to you? It's urgent." (From here on contains sections from Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince)
"But of course."
Bella moved back into the shadows behind the stairs not wanting to be seen. She still wanted to hear why they were there, but she knew she couldn't afford to be seen. Bellatrix had made her hatred for Bella very clear and had been told to stay away from the Potter girl.
"We... we are alone, aren't we?" She heard Narcissa asking quietly, her voice shaking as she did so
"Yes, of course. Well, Wormtail and Miss Potter are here, but we're not counting the vermin, are we? Plus, Miss Potter is trust by the Dark Lord"
Bella had to stop herself from snickering at Snape's attempt to not only reassure Narcissa, but annoy and anger Bellatrix at the same time. She found Snape's desire to pissed Sirius's crazy cousin off hilarious. It was almost as though he had picked up a few tricks from Bella and the Weasley Twins.
"I am not your servant!" Wormtail squeaked bringing Bella out of her thoughts and to the situation at hand.
"Really? I was under the impression that the Dark Lord placed you here to assist me."
"To assist, yes-but not to make you drinks and-and clean your house!"
"I had no idea, Wormtail, that you were craving more dangerous assignments," said Snape silkily. "This can be easily arranged: I shall speak to the Dark Lord-"
"I can speak to him myself if I want to!" Wormtail squawked.
"Of course you can," said Snape, sneering. "But in the meantime, bring us drinks. Some of the elf-made wine will do."
"Severus, I'm sorry to come here like this, but I had to see you. I think you are the only one who can help me-"
Bella heard a loud bang and watched as Wormtail scurried up the stairs just barely missing her hiding spot.
"My apologies, He has lately taken to listening at doors, I don't know what he means by it... you were saying, Narcissa?"
"Severus, I know I ought not to be here, I have been told to say nothing to anyone, but-"
"Then you ought to hold your tongue!" snarled Bellatrix. "Particularly in present company!"
"'Present company'?" repeated Snape sardonically. "And what am I to understand by that, Bellatrix?"
"That I don't trust you, Snape, as you very well know! And I most definitely to not trust that girl" Bellatrix sneered. (end book scene)
"Well the Dark Lord does," Snape barked back at the women. "Having the girl on our side only helps our cause. She will either convince her brother to join our side or they both fall, and little Bella wouldn't dare risk the life of her child." Bella knew that they would have to play the role perfectly. They would have to convince everyone that Bella was on Voldemort's side, and that meant hurting the ones she held dear to her heart. It would mean hurting the love of her life.
In the distance, an unknown figure had watched Bellatrix and Narcissa enter Snape's house. He immediately called for an owl. He wrote a quick note before tying it to the owl's leg and sending to off on its destination. He quickly recalled what the note said: In position, the swan is safe, and plan has been set in motion. -EM
