Harry woke up silently screaming, to him it sounded and felt like all of his bones breaking, he quickly closed his mouth thinking some sound might escape. He bit his tongue thinking it was his uncle taking some anger out on him, but when he finally opened his eyes he noticed no one else was around. A strange green glow encased his body. The aura spread out and started to fluctuate.
As the glowing storm of energy encased his body his bones kept breaking and grinding against each other, for nearly an hour of excruciating pain. Harry felt a burning in his chest as the green glow rushed back inside his body near his heart and then exploded out rapidly, filling from his fingers to toes. The pain caused him to black out with a pool of blood still in his mouth.
Hours later
The sun from the window shone brightly on Harry's face, stopping him from sleeping and longer, he stood up quickly and almost fell, his body felt weird and awkward to him and everything in his room looked just a little smaller, then he remembered.
He looked out the window and was nearly blinded from the countless number of what appeared to be miniature suns. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath and slowly reopened them, looking back outside and noticed a translucent dome over the whole property, that was littered with runes that he had never seen before this moment.
He turned to look around and saw a glow coming from his secret hiding place under the floorboards where he hid his magical items, but then as quickly as the sensation came it disappeared and left Harry with a splitting headache, and very blurry vision, he looked around for his glasses, but couldn't find them, so he grabbed his ratty old towel, and cursed the Ministry for stopping him from summoning them, but as he turned to walk out of the room his glasses came shooting at him poking his eye as they tried to land on his face properly.
That was cool he had never done that before, he tried again and thought about summoning his glasses so his hand. after a second there was a tingle and his glasses magically shot to his hand.
After His Shower
Harry was surprised when he saw himself in the mirror as he went to leave the bathroom, his body was more toned his muscles pronounced and his eyes seemed to have an ethereal glow about them, the only thing that was the same was his Harry messy, unruly, Potter hair. It never really grew and he never had to shave or anything like most guys his age, he wondered if that was his magic, he would be fine with a little stubble maybe even look a little cooler, and maybe with his hair longer it might not be as messy.
Harry walked back to his room and rummaged through his hidden cache of magical items, and even cleaned out the bottom of his trunk where he came across a mail order catalog for Flourish and Blotts that Hermione had given him a few years ago. After reading his old books her understood why muggle born Hermione continued to read so much wizard literature. Their culture was so saturated with magic that they used it for every little thing, the smallest tasks imaginable were shrugged off on magic to a degree they didn't understand muggles at all.
He knew. He had enough money to cover it so he ordered a bunch of books on various subjects, Occlemency, Dueling, Legilimency, Battle Magic, Light Arts, Enchanting, Runes, Warding, Rare Abilities, Wizarding Law, Household Charms, he tried to think if he need anything else, he scratched his face wondering if he could even finish the fifty books he ordered. As he rubbed his scratchy chin he remembered he had read and retained all of his school books in one night so he might actually need more that what he had ordered. He saw there was check all for plus member he checked that option and signed at the bottom adding his name and vault number to the appropriate spots so the funds could be deducted. He signed the order form and stuck it into the envelope before deciding he might as well order more.
He went back and ordered another 20 books on some nearly illegal subjects, and even a twelve part children's set on the adventures of the legendary boy-who-lived, he figured he might as well know the stories all the wizarding kids seems to know by heart. The were the main reason that he was famous after all.
He scratched his itchy face and then he noticed his face was scratchy and his jaw almost fell off at the thought that he might be a metamorphagus.
All the Books and 5 Days Later
Harry sat observing his guards through the see-through wall in his now apartment sized room, he had learned that he didn't need to use a wand to perform magic. he had also learned that he could do anything he read about without incantations. The first thing he did was use the books on magical carpentry to expand the rooms size inside improving his living conditions and adding the visual effects like his wall that showed what was outside like a window.
He had learned that the quirks with his vision was the latent talent of Mage sight awakening, he could see magic in a visible form and see through invisibly cloaks as if they were non existent.
He sat cross legged floating a few inches in the air, as he formed balls of water in his hand from the water vapor in the air and attempted to freeze them. It took concentration, he had to gather the water before he could use it, then push them together condensing them into ice.
Still having no progress, he wandlessly, and wordlessly summoned his book on Elementals, and the even rarer book on that was a VIP subscriber perk was actually a journal from a well known elemental, to check and see if he was doing it right.
Level 3 elemental magic was hard, the first two levels, moisture and water control were relatively easy, but ice was giving him problems he had to focus on forcing the water together until it condensed into a solid.
So he set the book down and dispersed the water back into the air and cracked open his advance Occlemency book instead, Fortress of the Mind.
Ice mastery took concentration, and to use it in battle like he planned then he would first have to finish up his mindscape. It turns out that Snape had been teaching him to occlude the old barbaric way. He smashed away hoping to build his natural defense to Mental intrusion, it was a benefit now after the fact, it had strengthened his mind and prepared for him to learn true Occlemency.
Instead of teaching him to arrange his memories in a uniform structure like a building or place and then you had to add traps and hidden rooms and places. Snape had made his mind stronger by smashing it over and over.
After a nearly thirty minutes of rearranging some more of his memories and a splitting headache later Harry went down stairs to cook breakfast for his "relatives," before he went on his morning run.
Not only where his runs a way to avoid time with the relatives but he had read in the Auror handbook written by Moody himself, that physical exercise and maintaining a healthy physical body helped with the body's natural flow of magic , and the ease of its use. Physical training also helped to dodge, Moody's number one lesson was always be on the move in a duel. He was paranoid, but also the longest surviving Auror at a century and a half.
After the Run
Harry quietly made his way back up to his room laughing, his protectors attempt to keep up with him on his run around Surrey. Aly as he had taken to referring to the real Moody, it was too odd after being taught by a doppelganger for a year to call the Man Moody.
Kingsley, and Nymphadora always had an easier time during his afternoon runs, but Aly always had a hard time following him probably because of his leg. It was ironic he was following Aly's own instruction on maintaining physical endurance and agility.
He summoned his new book on rare abilities, which was actually little help as it only gave a brief overview on the powers, and the way they thought to work, not how to learn how to control the ability. The author seemed very knowledgeable, yet didn't really seem to have any of the abilities themselves or any first hand experience form those that did.
In the case of his Metamorph powers, only two people he knew of could help him understand this ability and pretty soon one of them would be standing outside his home, the other couldn't be bothered to help his weapon and just left him to rot, stupid old man, Harry thought.
The walls in Harry's room pushed back a little further, making his space increase just a little bit more, gone was most of the pile of Dud's old toys, and the broken little bed, not that anyone but Harry could see past his obscuring and glamour wards though.
The walls were lined with shelves filled with books that he had bought and those requested from the Potter Vault after he had received a letter regarding Sirius's will, he figured that his family probably had some books some where and when he had requested all his family's magical tomes he had received 284 shrunken books all rare on the various interests of the Potter family.
He now had his own little apartment , it had his own bathroom, kitchen and a now king sized bed, similar to the one that he slept in at Hogwarts but bigger and softer.
Banishing his Home Improvement book back to it's place on the Shelf he walked back to the 1 way wall and entered a trance again, While he worked on sorting his memories Harry mused about how easy wandless magic was for him to grasp, well the size of his magical core did help as he had learned, but people like Dumbles and Voldie, should have an easy time with it.
If they only knew how easy it was once you figured out each spell had a feeling but nope they respected the current laws of magic, or even knew them because Harry had been raised a muggle.
Especially the laws that said wizards had to have a magical focus to do complex magic. He had discovered in one of his books from the Potter Vault that wands and staffs were crutches for weaker wizards in the past, because they didn't have the amount of magic or control to manipulate it on large scales without passing out or dying from exhaustion. By mainstreaming the use of wands the Ministry of Magic had placed a crutch on powerful wizards because the strongest of spells and rituals could not be channeled through a magical focus, they relied on the casters body to ground out the energy.
It was funny for all of Aly's bitching about Constant Vigilance, Harry was pretty sure that he could get the upper hand on him and probably win a 1 on 1 duel with him purely because of the element of surprise and that and the fact that they all thought he was still a little kid that needed to be taught to defeat Voldemort and protected , when in all honesty Dumbledore and He were the only ones that had actually faced Voldie and lived.
He was still wondering on how to get a talk in with his favorite metamorph, well the only metamorph he knew.
She was a mystery to him, and he wanted to know more, yes she was 3 years older than him (I know it's 6 in cannon but my story so it's 3) but he doubted that Tonks knew very much about him other than things that she had learned from Dumbles and their time at Hogwarts together.
Hopefully she wasn't watching over him as a crazed fan girl that just wanted to catch a glimpse of the boy-who-lived. Harry wondered what she really looked like under all of the changes to her body, or if she even remembered or could revert to her base form. The books were vague on the details.
Another reason and the most important reason that Harry wanted to get to now Tonks was the discovery of his metamorphic powers, he could grow his hair and change the shade of his eyes and hair, but not change the color completely, she could probably teach him the basics, and she was the only metamorph that Harry knew about in England, she was also an Auror so she knew some dueling tactics, and she was really attractive, the pink hair and purple eyes looked really nice also, and really pretty too, Now I'm rambling to myself, thought Harry.
The others followed Dumbles too blindly; she had a rebellious air about her that made him think that he could sway her to help him, and he had a crush on her since he met her last summer.
He watched the rain constantly hit the window, as he looked out the window he saw a very wet and upset looking Tonks sitting under an invisibility cloak near the tree in the back yard.
And then a plan came to him, either he would make a friend and spy, or get screwed and have to obliviate someone for the first time.
Tonks was standing in the Back yard of the Dursley's watching as Harry made breakfast for his relatives and then sit down and watched as they ate it not sharing any with him.
This was a common occurrence she had noticed the Dursley's would force him to cooks and clean but never feed him or even speak to him unless it was to order him around, the way he would flinch she assumed they had physically abused him in the past.
She was really tired from staying out all night in the rain guarding Harry from the slim chance that a Death Eater or You-Know-Who himself might attack.
Harry got up and washed the dishes, after the Muggles had finished, she thought about it and still had yet to see him eat anything with them in all her time watching over him.
He finished washing all the dishes and walked to the back door sliding it open and walking right up to her like he could see her, her suspicions were confirmed when he whispered.
"I'm going for a run in the rain Nymphadora follow, alone, you and only you," She was confused at how could Harry see her, the cloak was fully covering her body.
"Do try and keep up," Harry said as he ran away while laughing.
That's when she realized that Harry had called her Nymphadora, that was unforgivable, she thought as she took off running after Harry trying to catch up.
She took off running and saw Harry turn a corner and as she came around the corner he turned again.
When she got to the next corner, she saw him sprinting down the street heading toward the part of the park that bordered a thick forest. She then came to a large stretch it was almost like a corridor lined with extremely old and large trees but where was Harry.
Harry was trying really hard not to laugh, as Tonks came around the lane he had wandlessly cast a banishing charm trough his feet to get him into the high branches of one of the largest trees. It was a new skill he had learned he was capable of along with his wandlessly magic channeling the magic through any body part, except his eyes, that experiment had left him nearly blind for two days.
He watched her worriedly look for any sign of him. He decided enough was enough and it was time to have some fun with her, he cast a summoning charm on her invisibility cloak and then did the same on Tonks herself.
