He was spinning. The wind slapped over his face and twirled his light blond hair as he flew through the air, swinging wildly. The trees whirled fast all around him as he held tightly to the knotted rope with all the strength his little arms possessed, letting out delighted squeals as his little feet flew in the air in wide circles. And then, he let go, flying freely in the air for a momentary second before landing flatly on a high mountain of fallen leaves, hearing them crunch and sprawl all around as they caught his weight. It was the best feeling in Arda!
Less than a second latter, a second weight fell on the same pile of red and golden leaves, sending even more flying through the air as he let out a happy squeal, pushing the leaves from his face with his little hand. Legolas jumped to his feet, stumbling on the pile of leaves in the direction where the other weight had fallen, following the set of loud giggles escaping from it.
"Again!" The young Prince yelled excitedly, watching as another little head emerged from the mountain of fallen leaves, another set of little hands messily brushing them out of her long ashen hair. Large hazel eyes stroked with green looked up at him, carrying the same kind of overjoyed excitement as he pulled his best friend up from the arm, not even giving her time to fully gain her balance before pulling her again in the direction of the rope, hearing her delighted giggles behind him as she struggled to keep up.
"Prince Legolas, be gentle with her. You must not forget that she is a Lady, my young Lord." Came the soft warning from his nursemaid, and he resisted his urge to stick his tongue out at her. His Ada had very well taught him to not do such a rude thing to anyone, and to listen to what his nursemaids said, even though they could be so dumb sometimes. She was no Lady! She was merely Indilene! Nonetheless, he nodded his little head obediently.
"Yes, Sidhel." He replied as he pulled his giggling friend less harshly now, letting her be able to catch up with him as she tried not to trip on her long green dress. Even though she was no Lady, his Ada had taught him to play nicely with girls, and Indilene was a girl after all. That was the only thing boring about her. She liked to play with dolls! What could possibly be fun about dolls!
"Come, Indi!" He cried, unable to be patient as his hands reached once more for the knotted rope that hung loosely from a high tree branch. Indilene reached him a second after, her own little hands holding onto the rope as well as they started to run in wide circles, as fast as their little feet could carry them.
"Faster!" He heard his friend yelling in between her mirthful laughter, and he ran as fast as he possibly could, hearing Indilene let out a joyful cry as her feet were swept off the ground, the rope now flying in circles too wide for their feet to reach the ground. It was so exciting!
Indilene let go first this time, and he followed closely behind, letting himself splash once more over the pile of fallen leaves, unable to hold back his delighted cries.
"Again!" He heard his friend squealing as he pushed himself from the pile of leaves, Indilene already standing next to him, leaves sticking out of her now very tangled ash colored hair, her large eyes sparkling with happiness as she grinned widely. He jumped to his feet, being only slightly taller than her, not giving her time to think as he pulled her by the hand again, Indilene once again tripping on her dress as she tried to keep up.
"Lady Indelene, come here." Indilene's nursemaid chimed in with a light laugh much to his annoyance, and he saw his friend giving him an apologetic smile as obediently ran to where her maid was sitting on the soft grass. Legolas followed her, letting himself drop on Sidhel's lap as the latter cradled him close, watching as Indilene's maid carefully tied the silk sash around the waist of his friend's dress into a neat bow once more. Ugh! Why did she have to wear a dress! Was it not easier for her to wear a tunic and leggings just as he was? It must be more comfortable to play.
He turned his little head to the sides, squirming impatiently on his nursemaid's lap, wishing for Indilene's nursemaid to hurry so that they could continue playing. His eyes scanned the gardens around them when suddenly a sight on the distant main courtyard of the Palace caught his attention. His mouth curved up into the widest of grins, almost instantly jumping onto his little feet as his eyes fell on a very familiar figure dismounting from a horse in the distance and heading inside the Palace's doors.
"Ar is back!" Legolas exclaimed, jumping up and down on his little feet. His brother was back! He had not seen him in so long! A rush of energy washed over his small body and he tried to pull his nursemaid up to her feet impatiently, suddenly overly eager to head back to the Palace. Ar was back! "Come! Ar is back! Ar is back!"
Sidhel let out a faint chuckle, and he immediately lifted his little arms in the air the moment she was on her feet, allowing her to carry him up in her arms. He knew they would reach the Palace faster if she carried him, his feet were just too small to catch up with her long grown-up strides! He could barely take his large blue eyes away from the huge Palace doors, trying his very best to keep still as his nursemaid carried him inside. He could not wait to see his big brother! He had barely seen him in a year! Was he no longer fun enough to play with that Ar did not want to stay at the Palace for more than two days at a time now for the past year?
Once inside, the patient nursemaid put him down and Legolas dashed at his full speed through the long intricate corridors the second his feet touched the floor. He tried not to trip, dodging the many tall elves dressed in elegant long robes that he crossed on the way, all of them moving to the sides to let him through. Oh, his Ada would not be very happy if he saw him running through the corridors like this, but Ar was back! How could anyone expect him not to run?
He rushed trough the many arched hallways, his little feet patting on the polished marble floor, stopping abruptly as he finally reached his destination, nearly crashing against the closed tall door. A wide smile adorned his face, his hands lifting up to reach at the golden doorknob, which was a little too high for him – everything was a little too high for him – and needing both hands, he turned it, pushing the wooden door open. Legolas slipped inside the room, once again needing both of his little hands to push the door back closed before his tiny feet rushed deeper inside the very familiar bedchamber, immediately heading in the direction of the overly large bed.
Legolas stopped by the bed, large blue eyes scanning silently around the elegant and perfectly neat room for any sight of his eldest brother. Ar was not yet inside his bedchamber, just as he had expected it! He had gotten there first! A round of giggles left his mouth, but he quickly took his hands to cover his lips. What if Ar heard him! No, he had to surprise his brother! He needed to be silent. With the help of little jump, the youngest Prince of Mirkwood was able to climb on the too tall bed, quickly squirming his way in between pillows and blankets, pulling the heavy feathered deep blue covers over his head. Ar would never find him there!
His little ears caught the faint sound of light footsteps approaching outside the large corridor, and he willed himself to be as still as he could. Ar was here! Slowly, he heard the door being pushed open, his brother finally stepping inside the room, but instead of heading towards the bed, the light footsteps walked in the opposite direction, towards where he knew was a big round table with some chairs. The faint faint sound of something soft, like clothing – a cloak?- being placed on a chair reached his ears, and he giggled behind his closed lips. Ar had no idea he was even here! What a fool! And then, his hands flew up to cover his mouth. He had to be quiet. He could not give himself away.
Light footsteps headed towards the bed, and he froze on his place, pressing his little fingers as tight as he could against his mouth to prevent his giggles from filtering out of his closed lips. Oh, what a surprise he would give his brother!
"Oh, I am so tired." Arahaelon's voice echoed through the vast room as Legolas fought back yet another round of laughter as his brother reached the bed. "And my bed just looks so comfortable. I think I could fall asleep right now."
Legolas barely had time to register what his brother had just said before a sudden weight fell upon him, making him cry out in surprise, crushed against the many pillows and blankets under his brother's tall body. He squirmed around, trying to free himself from underneath his brother's weight, now giggling freely as Ar's arms held him place.
"This pillow is moving! Why is this pillow moving? And why is it so hard?" Ar's head was placed against his little back, as he tried to free himself, laughing quietly at his brother's words. Ar did not know it was him! He thought he was a pillow! Silly Ar! "And it is laughing too?"
And then, in a single swift movement, the feather blue covered were pulled back from over him, making him cry out in surprise as his head finally pocked out of his hiding place.
"BOO!" He yelled, his brother's strong arms picking him up in a single move and depositing on his lap over the large soft bed.
"Oh! But if it is Legolas!" His eldest brother exclaimed, seeming surprised to find him there, and he threw his little body over his brother's strong chest, locking his arms tightly around his big brother's neck and burying his head in his long light blond hair.
"You fell for it again, Ar!" He laughed, looking up into his brother's bright green eyes, who was smiling widely at him in return. He wanted to be like his brother when he was older. Ar was so wise and brave! And he was even allowed to go out into the forest and fight spiders and orcs with his sword! "I always trick you and you always fall for it!"
"When am I ever going to learn?" Arahaelon wondered, his hand gently ruffling his little brother's silken hair before the chuckled lightly, raising a questioning eyebrow as he pulled a brown dry leaf that was tangled in Legolas' falling braids. "Where in Arda were you, little one? You have leaves all over yourself!"
Legolas pulled away but failed to escape his brother's hands as they kept pulling dry leaves out of his hair and sticking to his tunic. A set of strong fingers curled around his little ankle and he squealed once more as his leg was lifted into the air, his brother's eyes widening as they fell on his dirt-covered little boots. "Legolas! You did not take this off before climbing into my bed? There is dirt everywhere!"
Uh-oh. He forgot to take off his boots. His large blue eyes widened in surprise, quickly scanning the area around himself only to confirm that the silk white sheets were indeed all now stained in mud and dirt.
"Sorry, Ar." He apologized lifting his gaze, only relieved to find that his big brother did not look angry with him. He should have paid more attention to his dirty feet before climbing on beds or other pieces of furniture. He had been told so a hundred times. "You can sleep in my bed if you want. It is clean, I promise."
The Crown Prince shook his head, letting out another light chuckle before speaking, Legolas once again climbing to sit on his brother's crossed legs. "It is all right, little leaf. I will ask someone to change the sheets for clean ones. Now what in Arda where you doing to be so…untidy?"
"Playing outside with Indilene." He answered, nuzzling himself against his brother's strong body, feeling safe there.
"Indilene? Is she you little friend?" His brother questioned, his hands trying in vain to comb through Legola's tangled and falling braids, the latter wriggling around in attempt to free himself.
"Mhm!" Legolas nodded, turning around to face his brother, only to find a pair of deep emerald eyes staring at him teasingly, a smirk present on the older elf's face.
"Is she your little girlfriend?"
"Eww!" He yelled as he laughed loudly. That was so repulsive! What was Ar thinking! "No, Ar! That is disgusting!"
Much to his annoyance, his older brother merely laughed along, sounding overjoyed at his little brother's reaction, green eyes continuing to look at him mockingly as slender fingers landed on his stomach, tickling Legolas to near death.
"Oh, she is your little girlfriend!" His brother continued to tease him, Legolas screaming nearly at the top of his lungs as he tried desperately to writhe his way out of the tickling hands, but finding himself unable to escape.
"Ar! No! please! Stop! Stooooop!" He cried in between rounds of laughter, barely even able to breathe once the Crown Prince finally stopped his torturous tickling.
"Ar?" He chirped once a tranquil silence had settled in the large elegant room, leaning his little body back against his brother, the top of his head barely reaching Arahaelon's chin.
"Yes?"
"Are you going to stay now?" He asked, almost in a pleading voice. Please, please, please, let his brother answer yes. He did not want Ar to leave again. He always did…at least for the past year…since his Nana had left. And then he had to wait weeks to see him for just barely a day before he left again! "Please do not leave again."
"I am sorry, little one, but I have to leave." His little heart fell inside his chest at his brother's reply, little arms crossing angrily over his chest.
"You always leave." He complained, only to get a small apologetic smile as an answer.
"I will come back soon, Legolas." Arahaelon tried to be reassuring, but it certainly did not work.
"You promise?" He asked, sounding almost too hopeful.
"I promise." Legolas smiled, although faintly. Ar always kept his promises, he knew that. And yet, he still did not want his brother to leave.
"Do you want to paint with me?" His little head turned up again, quickly forgetting the sad news he had just received and eager to make the most out of every second he had left with Ar before he left again for long weeks.
"No, Legolas. I am not in the mood for painting now." His brother stood up, steady arms picking him up easily in the air and carefully placing him back on the floor.
Legolas pouted, throwing his head back to be able to look at the taller elf. Ar adored painting. He made such pretty pictures. Why did he no longer want to paint with him? He would no longer make him beautiful drawings for him to color.
"Please?" He insisted, bracing his brother's knees with his little thin arms. "You can use my colors if you want to, and we will paint whatever you want. Please? Say yes? Sidhel is not fun to color with, and Ada just draws horribly."
"You managed to get Ada to sit and paint with you?" Arahaelon asked, sounding slightly surprised at the news, and he eagerly nodded his head, large blue eyes looking pleadingly up at his big brother.
"Would you? Please?" He begged again, but his brother only smiled apologetically and shook his head.
"No, little one. Perhaps another time."
He knew what that meant. It meant never, and he felt his little face fall, but he quickly shook those feelings away. If Ar did not want to paint then they would not pain. He would do anything his big brother wanted to do. He was the best! After all there was no braver and stronger elf in the realm that Ar. Well, maybe perhaps his Ada.
"Legolas, do you know where Ada is?" His brother's gentle voice asked as he crouched to be at his eye level, giving him one of those soft smiles that told him that everything was all right, that nothing could ever happen to him if his big brother was near.
"Sleeping." He answer matter-of-factly, not really understanding why Arahaelon suddenly looked so surprised and concerned.
"Sleeping?" He nodded his little head. Yes, sleeping, that was what he had said. Had his brother not heard him. "At this hour?"
"Yes. He is taking a nap. " He confirmed again, once more confused at the older elf's now worried look. What was wring with that? His little head could not comprehend. He took naps during the afternoons as well, why could his Ada not do so? Why did his brother find strange that his Ada was taking a nap?
"Legolas, has Ada been taking this naps often lately?" His brother's deep emerald eyes pierced deeply into his, and he once again did not understand the urgency and concern in Arahaelon's usually peaceful gaze.
"Every day." He answered honestly, his voice betraying his confusion as his brother rose one again tall on his feet, quickly starting to walk in long strides towards the heavenly crafted door. "Ar, is that bad?"
Arahaelon turned on his heels, only to offer him a small reassuring smile, even though Legolas did not really believed it. It did not seem genuine. "No, little one. You have nothing to worry about."
And then, he left the room, leaving the door open behind him as he rushed away. Legolas stood there, trying to comprehend what had happened in his little mind, and then, he hurried behind his brother, not wanting to be left behind. Where was Ar going? Why was he leaving now? His little feet pattered on the long marble corridor, his eyes set on his brother's distancing figure, confident that he would catch up with him shortly. Ar was heading to his Ada's rooms. Was he going to wake him? But Ada was sleeping. He should not wake Ada, Lord Doronor had told him so for the past couple of weeks. He had said his Ada was very tired and wanted to sleep.
He was about to reach his older brother when the large pair of wooden doors that led to the King's bedchambers were slowly pushed open, a very familiar tall dark-haired elf walking out into the corridor before silently closing the door behind him, careful not to make a sound. Legolas pressed his little body behind one of thousands of tree-like columns that lined the heavenly corridor, suddenly not wanting himself to be seen. He did not want to get in any trouble by letting anyone think that he had come wake his Ada.
"Your Highness." The dark-haired elf greeted his brother with a respectful bow, even though he did seem slightly surprise to find the Crown Prince there. He recognized the elf instantly. He was the one who healed all of his ouchies.
"Is he…?" Arahaelon did not finish voicing his question, but the healer seemed to have understood what he was going to say.
"I am afraid so, my Lord." The healer's voice sounded sad, and once again he could not understand why. "We are trying to do our best, and he is fighting too, but he is not getting any better."
"How bad is it?" His brother's voice whispered at the healer who merely shook his head without answering.
"How long has this been going on?" Arahaelon continued to question, the worry in his voice making Legolas suddenly feel scared. Was there something wrong with his Ada that no one was telling him?
"Months, now, my Lord." The healer replied in that same hushed voice. "His headaches are the worst part, they do not let up no matter what we give him anymore."
"I…" Ar stuttered. Ar never stuttered. He was always sure of what he said. "I did not know."
"He knows, Your Highness." The healer reassured. "Lord Elrond should be here within the coming week. We are hopping he will be able to help where we cannot."
"Lord Elrond? That bad?" His brother's voice questioned in a haste, his worry only seeming to intensify. Why? What did Lord Elrond had to do with anything? Was it bad if Lord Elrond came?
"I am afraid so, my Lord"
"Is he asleep?" The Crown Prince asked in a hesitant voice, his head turning momentarily in the direction of the large pair of doors that rose up to the high intricate ceiling.
"No, my Lord, his headache will not let him." The healer replied, and for a second he saw his eldest brother hesitate with the doorknob, as if about to enter the piece before his pale slim hand dropped once again to his side, a guilty look crossing his peaceful green eyes.
Legolas blinked for a couple of times, suddenly feeling scared. Was something wrong with his Ada? His Ada's head hurt? That was what the healer of ouchies had said. And why did Ar look guilty? Ar had done nothing to be guilty of. He was Ar! He stood there, his little body pressed against the cold stone column as he heard his brother's light footsteps walk back through the long corridor, headed in his direction.
He could not stop himself, his curiosity and worry greater than him as he suddenly ran out of his hiding spot, racing and locking his little arms around one of his brother's tall legs. Arahaelon immediately stopped his march, for the first time looking genuinely surprised to see him, the sober expression in his face suddenly turning into a bright welcoming smile.
"What were you doing hiding there, little one?" His brother's voice was once again patient and calmed, as it always was. Nothing could be wrong then, right? Nothing could be wrong if Ar was smiling at him as he was now. However, before he even had time to answer, he felt his brother's strong arms suddenly picking him up in the air, carrying him on his arms as he continued to walk. "You should not be hiding around the Palace."
"Ar? Is something wrong with Ada?" He asked, bracing his little arms around his brother neck and resting his weightless head on that safe broad shoulder. Was his Ada going to leave just like his Nana had?
"No, Legolas. Nothing is wrong with Ada. Do not worry." Ar was quick to reply and he felt a light kiss being dropped onto his little blond head. He believed his brother. He would always believe his brother. "He is just resting because he is tired."
He nodded his little head, but his brother had other ideas, for a second after he felt a pair of safe fingers lifting up his little chin, making his large blue eyes fall on his big brother's emerald ones. "Do you want to go play with me?"
His eyes lit up almost immediately, barely even able to believe what his little ears were hearing. "Really?"
"Yes. We can play whatever you want to play." Ar laughed lightly as the elfling swung his legs uncontrollably on the air to be let down, gently placing his weightless burden on the floor. The second his feet touched the polished marble floor, Legolas dashed trough the hallway, hurrying at full speed back in the direction of his bedchambers, where he knew all of his toys were already waiting for him. He could hear his older brother following behind at a slower pace, but he just could not contain his excitement. Even if his brother would leave the Palace again in the morning, as he now always did, he would get to play with him all the afternoon.
And what a wonderful afternoon it was. They spent hours in his bedchambers, playing with all of his toys, building and rebuilding tall castles and forts with little wooden blocks, until exhaustion took hold of him once the dark blue mantle fell behind a shining silver Moon. He yawned many times, refusing to go to bed even though Arahaelon suggested he did multiple times. He did not want to be tired. He did not want to sleep. He wanted to continue playing. But his little body had other ideas, and soon he found himself dozing off in his brother's arms, barely even aware as he was gently laid on a large comfortable bed, left to peacefully wonder in the land of dreams.
But dreams never came. No. It was the same terror that assaulted him every night what woke him up. And he was alone, there, feeling tiny on his overly large bed, the room suddenly seeming so big, everything looking so dark. Tiny hands pulled at the covers closer to his little body as fear started to grip at him again. He wanted his Nana. He needed his Nana. But his Nana would not come. She had left.
Legolas felt tears starting to slide down his rosy soft cheeks as he tried to suppress his sobs. He could not cry like that. Big elves did not cry! Ar did not cry! But he was scared. His room was so dark, and he wanted his Nana, he missed his Nana.
The wind sung in the balcony outside, the trees rustling against each other in a terrorizing chant, and he felt himself giving into his sobs. All he wanted was his Nana to rock him to sleep, to sing to him one of her sweet lullabies. He was too scared…and he missed her so much. His sobs only grew louder and louder, uncontrollable now, he could not stop them. He was frightened, alone, and he desperately wanted someone to hold him.
Soon enough the nursemaids entered his room. They did every night, rushing to his side as he tried to control his sobs, but his frightened crying was too strong for him to even breathe properly, his breaths coming in short hiccups. He could feel one of them picking him up in her arms, carrying in him against her warm body, but that only made him scream all the louder. She was not his Nana. He wanted his Nana. He missed his Nana. Why had she left? Why was she not coming back?
"Shh, my young Prince. You are safe. It was only a nightmare." The maid tried to soothe him, but that only made him cry louder, not hearing the voice he wanted to hear, not feeling the arms he wanted to feel. Where had his Nana gone? He struggled to draw breaths between his screamed sobs, desperately needing a kind of comfort he would not get from any of his nursemaids.
"I WANT MY NANAAAA!" He finally screamed at the top of his lungs once he was bale to hold enough breath to speak, his little body shaking violently as the maid tried to rock back to sleep, but it was not working. "NANAAAAAAAAA!"
He heard the door open once more as he continued to cry loudly, feeling a very familiar pair of arms pick him up from the maid's hold, making him feel safe as he once again locked his arms around a warm neck. His Ada had come. His Ada was here. He had nothing to be scared of now. But he could not stop crying, sobs still racking his little body as he continued to scream. He needed his Nana.
"NANAAAAAAA!" He cried again, feeling his Ada's hand rubbing soothing circles on his back, but once again his Ada did not say anything. He would always remain silent, just rocking him to sleep in his safe arms.
But it was not the same this time, his Ada's arms did not feel as safe as they usually did, not seeming to be holding him as tightly as strongly as he always did. Instead, less than a minute after he had picked him up, his Ada had dropped onto a comfortable rocking chair in the room, choosing instead to cradle Legolas in his lap rather than carrying him as he paced. And that made him scream louder in fright. Why was his Ada no longer carrying him? He curled on his Ada's lap, pressing himself tightly against those warm rich night robes, feeling his father's arms wrapped around him, although still not as strong as they used to. "NAAANAAAA! I WANT MY NANAAAAA!"
And then, something different happened that night, something that was not part of his now nightly routine. The fine door to his large bedchamber was pushed open again, and before he could even peek in between his teary red eyes to look another pair of strong safe arms picked him up from his father's lap, the latter seeming too tired and weak to protest.
"Ssshh, Legolas. Do not cry." His eldest brother's voice soothed as he wrapped his tiny arms around his brother's neck, gripping tightly at his night tunic. He tried to calm his breathing, to stop his crying, but it was to no avail. Arahaelon continued to carry him, slowly leading him in the direction of the large pair of doors that led to the hallway outside, gentle fingers tenderly brushing away the big fat tears that continued to slide down Legola's rosy cheeks without intention to stop. "What do you say about you coming to sleep with me for tonight? Would you like that? Would you like to sleep on my bed tonight?"
He nodded his head, gripping tighter onto his brother's night tunic, trying to fight back his sniffs and sobs, or at least trying not to scream as Arahaelon slowly carried him all the way into his own bedchambers. Yes. He would like that. He did not want to be alone.
His short breathing came in loud hiccups as he felt Ar slowly lowering him onto his bed, and he instantly locked his arms tighter around his brother's neck, nearly choking him, not wanting to be left by himself.
"I'm not leaving, little one." The Crown Prince had to reassure him for Legolas to hesitantly let go of his brother, allowing the older elf to gently place him under the warm feathered covers before climbing on the bed next to him. He immediately curled his little body against his brother's, feeling safe closer to the older elf, where his terrors could not return, and was only glad when his brother cradled his little sobbing figure tightly against him.
"Only for tonight, Legolas, all right?" His brother's gentle voice explained, and he nodded immediately in understanding. "You need to sleep in your own bed like the grown elf you are. I know you miss Nana. I miss her too. But you cannot continue screaming at night for Ada to come. He needs to sleep too, and you know Ada will not sleep if he hears you are sad."
He nodded his head again, trying to breathe through his sniffs and occasional sobs that still wracked his body as he pressed himself even tighter against his brother, nuzzling his little body in those safe arms and warms blankets.
"B…bu…but….I…am..sc…sc…scared" He spoke between chocked sobs, byring his head against his brother's side.
"I know, little leaf." Arahaelon's soothing replied calmly. "But if you wake up scared again, will you promise me that you will not scream? You can come wake me and I will sit with you until you fall asleep on your bed. That way Ada can sleep too. Can you do that?"
He nodded his head again, carefully listening to what his brother said. Yes, he would try. It would be scary, but he would try. Ar did not scream at night because he was a brave and big elf now. Then he should not scream if he too wanted to be as brave and strong as his brother was. He would try not to scream, but for now, he would sleep comfortably, feeling safe next to his big brother.
And then, far gripped his little heart as he remembered another important detail, his tear-filled eyes quickly lifting to gaze at his brother's peaceful face.
"But you will leave again tomorrow." He protested, feeling scared to be alone again, feeling the need to scream for his Ada once more, no longer wanting to be a brave elf in exchange of having a comforting presence beside him. And yet, his brother's gentle emerald eyes looked down at him with a smile, once again brushing away his big fat tears from his pale face.
"I am not leaving again, Legolas. At least not for some long years."
