Unfortunately, this actually did happen to me. It was one of those moments where it wasn't cringeworthy until I was lying in bed later that night, and then it was awful. It still haunts me sometimes. :P
Disclaimer: I don't own HP.
"Well, that was two and a half hours of my life that I shall never get back," Dean said in a grim voice as the small gaggle of boy's walked down to the small clearing where they would get the horseless carriages to travel back to the station, where they would return home for Christmas. "I mean, how dull was that?"
"I know, right?" Seamus agreed, kicking a stone along the path and grinning when it hit the back of a Hufflepuff girl's leg. "And you'll never guess what happened."
"What?" Neville asked wearily.
Seamus grinned and paused for effect, before announcing, "Dumbles told us off!"
"Did he now?"
Seamus stopped in his tracks and looked up. There, in front of him, stood Albus Dumbledore. He had been walking just in front of him the whole time.
He heard Dean's snort and Neville's whisper of "I told you he was there", and decided that the only way to carry on was to pretend he had intended Dumbledore to hear.
"Yeah!" he said, picking up his pace to walk at the same time as the headmaster. "We couldn't see any other Gryffindors, so we were all wondering if we were in the right place and you told us to shh!"
"He's a beast, that Dumbles," Dumbledore sighed, blue eyes twinkling.
"We shouldn't have been talking or anything," Seamus said. "We just couldn't see Gryffindor and we were getting really panicked..."
Dumbledore laughed and patted Seamus's shoulder. "Have a good Christmas, dear," he said, before moving out into the crowd.
Seamus stood for a second, slightly dazed, before Neville and Dean caught up with him. Dean didn't even have to speak before Seamus had glowered at him and called him a prick.
"I did tell you he was there," Neville insisted.
"That's bull," snapped Seamus. He turned back to Dean. "Don't you dare say anything."
Dean grinned. "My lips are sealed."
Seamus smirked a little, and was about to clamber into a departing carriage when Dean called, "oh, and Seamus?"
He turned to look at his friend. "What?"
"Have a good Christmas, dear."
"Prick."
