Author's Note:
Gosh it's been a while! Forgive me, I've had very little time with rehearsals and stuff...sorry about that. This story isn't going to be very long, I'm going to get started on a new one soon enough. Hopefully I'm not biting off more than I can chew...X3 Anyway, here's the update and last chapter, enjoy!
Horton curled his trunk around the sleeping baby elephant next to him. He wished he could stay this way forever, but the sun was slowly creeping up the horizon, putting a opening in the glassy night. Soon enough, Horton would have to wake the sleeping baby up and start the lessons for the day. His schedule had changed since Eebee came, and he had been having trouble keeping up with the new time limit. And it was impossible to ignore the melancholy looks Gertrude had been giving him. If he knew what was troubling her, he would try to help. However, whatever was ailing her had not reached the surface quite yet, so he had no way of knowing what was wrong.
His eyes closed once more, but not before he could spot the leaf with the etchings into it. He opened his eyes once more and scooped it up with his trunk, holding it close to his face to read.
Dearest Horton,
I have gone on a trip to a different jungle to visit a friend. I will only be gone for a few hours, but if you happened to need me while I'm away send a bird to come and fetch me right away.
-Gertrude
Horton sighed, putting the leaf back on the ground. He looked at EeBee and smiled. The family of three was no doubt the oddest, but it was still a beautiful thing.
1 Year Later…
Gertrude had confessed her feelings verbally to Horton who had confessed as well. They now played in a field with two year old Eebee who had began to fly more gracefully. The wildflowers in the field danced and swayed in the breeze. Has Horton chased after a giggling Eebee, he realized that it really doesn't get better than this.
