Kate sighed.
Positive.
Since when was positive such a negative thing? Ironic?
Deep breaths Kate, deep breaths. You can handle this. You're a strong and powerful woman. You're an executive officer on a warship, for god's sake. Man up.
''Dammit Kate! Dammit, Dammit, Damn-'' Kate's words were cut off as her cabin door was swung open. She quickly jammed the stick in her back pocket – that was one thing she was positive that she wanted no one else to see, ever.
With the little positive symbol.
Dutchy looked at her, he could see the frustration in her face. He'd served with her for almost two years now; he could easily read her emotions. Though, there was another emotion. That he hadn't seen, at least since they hadn't been able to contact the captain and Jim by radio when they had led a shore party. Everyone was questioning if they were dead, or alive. The look; was worry. Pure worry.
He was careful with his words, upsetting his XO was something he didn't enjoy doing.
"Um, X. Is everything okay?" He asked, subconsciously taking a step backwards. If he needed a quick escape, he wanted to be ready. If the X was going to lose it, it was never a good time to be around.
"Oh Dutchy. Yes, everything is fine…" Kate began, before she saw the expression on his face. His expression told her, everything is not okay. Don't bullshit me.
"I just left my television on at home, that's all. Now I'm going to have to bother my neighbours and asked them to turn it off. Otherwise, when I get home I'm going to have a huge power bill," Kate lied.
I hate lying, just Dutchy – please believe my story. Or at least pretend to.
"You positive?" Dutchy asked, giving her a questioning look.
YES.
"Yeah, everything's fine. Thank you though Dutchy," Kate told him, faking a cheerful smile.
Everything isn't fine. That's one thing I'm positive about.
"Okay then, I thought you were going to tell me that Jim had got you knocked up or something!" Dutchy said, as a casual laugh followed.
No, not Jim.
I'm positive about that as well.
