Unexpected
Chapter 1
'Early August'
Gone: Day 2
Standing in front of her full body mirror as her hair dripped with water she looked through the steam that had collected. It had been two days since she'd left Spock and Vulcan. Though they'd arrived barely half a day after leaving she'd felt unnerved.
She felt like someone was watching her. Even now. Her blue eyes skimmed her surroundings but saw nobody there.
When she first arrived back she considered the fact it may have been the bond that had her unnerved. Now… she wasn't so sure. She'd temporarily blocked the bond, only for about an hour but the presence had remained clear and present.
Sighing she walked across the hall in her towel, grabbing for her clothing. She slid on her underwear followed by black jeans. Then a plain bra followed. As she went to grab for a baggy black tee-shirt her eyes glanced at her calendar when something struck her. Her hand froze in mid reach as her eyes widened.
That couldn't be possible. Spock was infertile.
Then she remembered something Amanda, his mother, had said. "It was difficult to sense the baby. It was like that cough that won't go away or that presence that won't leave, deviating from the bond."
Could that presence she was sensing really be a baby?
"No, god damn it. You're a Kirk, Stop psyching yourself out," she growled at herself while grabbing for her tee-shirt. She pulled it on quickly and forcefully.
Then determined she went to her view screen, needing to speak with her husband. Now!
After arguing with the consulate for nearly an hour, them basically stating they needed more than the word of some nobody teenager to contact with an ambassador – or an ambassador's son – they hung up on her leaving her ready to scream with frustration.
"Knock knock," A voice called and she turned to see Richie, the guy who helped run the place, in the doorway. "Guess who brought cheese burgers."
"Thank god. I haven't eaten any sort of meat – don't say it – since I left," she stated and he handed her the sandwich. "Where have you been by the way? I haven't seen you around."
"Ah, well, I've been staying with…" he blushed and there was a searching look on his face. She knew he'd forgotten the woman's name. This wasn't unusual for him as he often forgot the women's names because they weren't much more than a bed warmer.
"Yeah, well, next time at least call if you won't be stopping by," she told him. "Your lucky I was here otherwise you could have done some real damage to the cows let alone starved the other animals."
"Yes ma'am," he said while moving to the kitchen table. They sat down and pulled out the food. Then they took a bite. He half devoured his sandwich though she suddenly felt the urge to gag… or puke. It wasn't the cheese, lettuce, tomato, or even the pickles. It was the meat.
Covering her mouth she ran to the downstairs bathroom which was diagonal from them and lost everything she'd eaten that day. That wasn't a lot besides a few apples from the tree out back.
"Damn it," she muttered wondering what the hell. She didn't even contemplate that maybe she was pregnant.
Instead she rinsed her mouth out then went out to where he was sitting worried.
"Aren't you feeling good?" he asked and she shrugged.
"It's just… the meat was too strong. I've gone months on a vegetarian diet. It was a shock to my system," she stated. He nodded though didn't seem sure about it.
"I'm still adjusting," she said while absently playing with her ring. He zoomed in on the ring and was instantly up and holding it while examining it.
"Nice rock. Expensive too. How the hell did you buy that?" Richie asked.
"I didn't," she stated. He seemed shocked and went to question her. She explained though. "Spock did."
"Spock?" he questioned.
"My husband," she stated cringing. Richie was basically her best friend. He was her only confidant on earth.
"Husband? Why the hell wasn't I invited to the wedding? And where the hell is this husband of yours anyways?" he demanded sounding like a pissed off brother. Though there were traces of more in his voice though she couldn't pin point it.
"He's on Vulcan finishing his education. That's where we got married and it was just something we did. We were in love… and on Vulcan there is no such thing as a divorce so don't even ask about it," she told him, cut him off before he could say anything.
"I wouldn't. I just wish you would have let me know," he stated with a sigh. Then they went back to their lives. She began to go over the neglected paperwork and do the calculations. She checked over the incoming credits against the outgoing ones. He went out to do work in the field.
This was her life.
