Book 01: Embracement
Pairing: Kagome/Lavi
As a successor of the Bookman clan, from a young age he knew that relationships were unnecessary—better yet, prohibited. Relationships would lead to inaccurate records and a sway of the heart. A Bookman was not to let feelings overtake them; they were to remain impartial. Bookman were supposed to rise above primitive human urges in order to be better recorders. Their sole purpose in life was to record and document history for future generations.
As described by his educator Bookman, Bookmen were to be stoic, unemotional and unattached. Bookmen had to be such in order to move freely around the world without any means of engagement. All of his life, Bookman Junior followed and abided by such rules that resided around him in a solid, unbreakable shield. Everything that he strived—no, attained to be was to become the next Bookman. To follow in his mentor's path and become an even greater one than the last… Then, everything had to go and change… When Lavi, his forty-nine persona, appeared and she came into the light… breaking his shield.
At first glance, she seemed normal; merely another new exorcist to join their ranks and fight. Naturally, when first introduced, he had pulled his signature move. Shouting his famous catch phrase "STRIKE!" and running towards her, clasping her hands with his.
"You're so beautiful!" He could remember himself saying as he eyed her. And that had been true. She had a lovely figure, a slimness that most girls would envy. Combined with luscious strands of ebony hair and sparkling chocolate brown eyes she was quite the sight to behold. It was obvious by her features that she was of Asian descent. However, the question had been of where. China? Korea? Taiwan? Heck, her nationality didn't matter to the redhead. She was drop dead gorgeous, and for once, he'd been pleased by the choice the Innocence made when selecting its accommodator.
"So, what's your name beautiful?" By then their noses were touching. Lavi recalled feeling her breath on his face and watching the way her eye darkened quite quickly. Just like Kanda, Lavi soon learned that she was not one for closeness. Within seconds, she punched him in the gut sending him flying.
Eyes narrowed, she had snarled, "Usagi, never touch me like that again! Do you hear me?!"
And that's how Lavi had ended up learning of her nationality!
"I see now, you're Japanese!"
Moreover, like Kanda, she was arrogant. Many feared her—mostly her temper. With her unexplainable moments of rage, it was becoming clear to all members of the Order that she was one to avoid. Although she had the looks to draw others near, her personality scared them away. But that's drew him near. For unlike others, he had attempted to tame the savage female beast of the Black Order formally known as Kagome. It took weeks for the redhead to slowly warm up to her—combined with various trips to the infirmary and "chats" with Bookman. Nonetheless, he grew to love their time together and could not wait for the start of a new day to blossom where he might obtain the chance to learn more about her.
At the start when he began his journey, the concept of spending time with another who either slapped or cursed him in Japanese was none to enjoyable. On more than one occasion, he'd be eyeing the clock wondering when he could leave. But now, the concept of leaving never once crossed his mind; rather the concept of staying forever lingered in the back of his head.
Lavi was no idiot. He knew what had happened was wrong—he was growing attached. The very concept he learned to abide by was slowly fading away… all because of a woman.
"Lavi, Bookman aren't supposed to have hearts."
Although he knew the phrase by heart, it wasn't enough to make him break off their 'relationship.' If anything, it only strengthened his resolve.
"Lavi, don't you understand what she's doing to you? She's ruining your goal. Everything you worked so hard to achieve is ruined… and why? All because of a girl! A girl!"
Even his mind fought with him, arguing that this decision was the wrong move to make. That falling in love was the worst possible scenario, and only ended with problems.
"Aren't Bookman supposed to be stoic, unemotional and unattached? What happened to that? Where did it go, Lavi? Tell us!"
"It disappeared," he murmured. "It's long gone."
"Lavi-kun, is something wrong?" Kagome questioned. Tucked away in the depths of the Black Order's library, the two cuddled together in a small blue loveseat with a small blanket draped over their legs. A book lay unopened and forgotten by their feet for quite some time.
"Huh?" Lost in his thoughts, Lavi snapped out of his daze, blinking. "What? Were you asking me something Kago-chan?" A nickname he loved using when they were together.
She pursed her lips together, annoyed. "I know you heard my question," she spoke. "Now answer me, what's wrong."
Lavi stared towards her, taking in her expression. To him, the whole sight of her was beautiful, no exquisite. It was as if a painting had sprung to life and was sitting before him. Nevertheless, the question was how could something so beautiful be so bad?
"Lavi, Bookman aren't supposed to have hearts."
I know Gramps…
"Lavi, don't you understand what she's doing to you? She's ruining your goal. Everything you worked so hard to achieve is ruined… and why? All because of a girl! A girl!"
I get it. I know.
"Aren't Bookman supposed to be stoic, unemotional and unattached? What happened to that? Where did it go, Lavi? Tell us!"
I don't know… but I guess the answer is sitting in front of me, wrapped in my arms.
Unable to say anything, he merely leaned his forehead against hers. Her breath tickling his face, he scrunched his nose, smiling sweetly. "Its nothing you need to worry about." He assured her before kissing her.
Kagome eagerly responded to the kiss, wrapping her arms around his waist. Lavi grinned and ran his fingers through her thick locks, amazed by the softness of them.
Kagome-chan, you truly are a gem… My gem.
Duties and regulations long forgotten, Lavi rolled over and pinned Kagome to the bottom of the couch, their lips still locked. Ramming his hips against hers, he couldn't suppress the glee that coursed through his veins upon hearing her groan of pleasure. Feeling a wave of euphoria wash over the redhead, he grinned into the kiss before pulling away.
"I love you," he then whispered in her ear before attacking her neck with kisses.
