Chapter 2: Return to the Feudal Era (Updated)
AN: I'm naming Kagome's mother Kaiyo
Kagome quickly made her way home and parked her bike outside. "I'm home," yelled Kagome as she entered her house and took off her shoes.
"Hello Kagome," said Kaiyo as she stuck her head out of the kitchen. "Inuyasha is in the living room. I think he's taking a nap."
"Okay thanks Mama," said Kagome as she walked into the living room. Sure enough, sprawled out on the couch was the half demon Inuyasha. His white hair was messy and hanging off the edge of the couch as he laid on his side, facing the back of the couch.
Kagome had to prevent herself from giggling so she wouldn't wake him up. 'He's so cute when he's sleeping,' she thought. The sound of something falling in the kitchen made the demon's ear twitch. Kagome reached a hand up to his pointed silver dog ear and began to slowly rub it. A small sound emitted from Inuyasha and Kagome looked down at him with a smile. 'Is he purring,' she thought. It was more of a growl but didn't sound all that threatening so it could be mistaken as a purr. The girl was so wrapped up in playing with his ear that she didn't notice when his hands snaked up her sides. In a split second she was wedged between himself and the couch, Inuyasha's nose pressed into her temple.
"Hello beautiful," he murmured in his sleepy haze.
"Hi... Inu... yasha…?" said Kagome her face red as a tomato. 'Did he just call me beautiful?' She stared at him for a minute before dismissing it as she realized he was probably still half asleep.
After about five minutes or so the dog demon finally stirred more and opened his golden eyes to look at Kagome. "So when are we leaving?" he asked.
Kagome rolled her eyes but smiled none the less. "I was thinking after dinner."
Inuyasha nodded and nuzzled his face into her hair. "Good the sooner the better." He was only ever this affectionate to her when they were alone and out of sight of others. Recently though he started becoming more affectionate and always wanting to hold her and be close to her.
Reaching up with her hands she began playing with his ears again causing that same purr like sound to ripple through his throat. Kagome was the only person he allowed to touch his ears. "What's your hurry," she said in a playful tone.
Crinkling his nose he looked down at her. "I don't like your time, it always smells so bad."
"I'm sorry," said Kagome. She knew her time was harsh on him as he preferred the fresh air of the feudal era then her time. "We'll leave after dinner."
"Thanks," said Inuyasha as he wrapped his arms around her waist tighter and closed his eyes. As he held her to him Kagome looked up at his face and she smiled at him. Snuggling closer to him she laid her head down on his chest and closed eyes as well. She tucked her head under his chin and they stayed like that for a while until they were rudely interrupted.
"Oooh, I'm telling Mama," said Souta from the living room door.
Inuyasha was the first to launch himself off the couch as he made a quick dash to Souta before the boy had a chance to run from the room. He managed to grab the boy by the back of the shirt where Inuyasha turned him around to face him. "You tell anyone and I'll feed you to a demon. Got it?" Inuyasha threatened. The small boy didn't say anything just nodded his head. "Good." Inuyasha released the Souta who ran out of the room and up the stairs. Both Kagome and Inuyasha let out a sigh as the demon flopped himself back on the couch.
"That was close," said Kagome as she snuggled back up with Inuyasha. The demon didn't say anything as he nodded his head.
Not long after Kaiyo called them all into the kitchen for dinner where the family talked lightly about their day. For dinner Mama made chicken with rice and egg rolls as well as miso soup, and of course Inuyasha's ramen. After dinner Kagome helped clear the dishes before she and Inuyasha made their way upstairs to her room. Sitting on Kagome's bed Inuyasha watched as she got out her large backpack so she could pack. She put in clean clothes, Shippo's treats and new baby doll, his last one having gotten destroyed when they were attacked by several demons. She also put in Inuyasha's instant ramen, medical supplies, and other essentials that they would need. By the time she was done packing it was nearing nine o'clock in the evening. Kagome stood up from her bag and look over at Inuyasha.
"Ready to go Inuyasha," she said.
"It's about time," said Inuyasha as he got up from the bed, grabbed Kagome's bag. "Let's get going." He made his way down the stairs and Kagome followed suit. As they got down stairs they saw Kaiyo was finishing up cleaning the kitchen.
"Mom we're leaving," said Kagome as they headed for the door.
Kaiyo looked over at them and smiled. "Alright, you two better be careful okay?" The two gave her a small reply before stepping out into the cool night air. They made their over to the bone eaters well and entered through the door.
"You ready?" asked Inuyasha as they stepped up to the well.
"Yeah I'm ready. Let's go," replied Kagome. Inuyasha grabbed Kagome around the waist and jumped into the well. They watched as the time portal opened to allow them into the feudal era. Once on the other side Inuyasha got them out of the well with a single jump, Kagome still in his arms. Keeping her close to his chest Inuyasha ran towards the village to Kaede's hut where he put Kagome down on the porch and walked in through the reed curtain that hung over the door. Kagome followed in afterward.
"Kagome!" cried a small kitsune as he jumped into Kagome's arms.
"Hey Shippo," said Kagome as she rubbed the small child's back. "I brought your sweets and your doll."
"Yay!" cried Shippo as he made a grab for Kagome's bag after Inuyasha put it down. The young fox started rummaging through to pull out a bag of sweets and his doll. He put the bag of sweets on the floor beside him after hoping down from the back and started playing with his new doll as if it were a real child.
"Welcome back Kagome," said Sango as she greeted her best friend.
"Thanks Sango, how was your day?" said Kagome.
The brunet shrugged lightly. "It would have been better except for the fact that I was constantly being groped by that pervert over there," said Sango as she sent a death glare over to Miroku. He was sitting in a corner of the room with every inch of his face covered in hand prints.
"Miroku will ever learn?" asked Inuyasha as he sat next to his friend and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Probably not," said Sango.
The monk sat with his arms crossed over his chest with his eyes closed and head tilted to the floor. "Dear Sango you miss understand my intentions..." started Miroku
"I understand your intentions alright, just keep your hands to yourself monk!" screamed Sango. Kagome started to giggle while Sango just glared.
"That will be enough all of ye," said Kaede as she entered the hut. "I suggest ye all get some sleep. I assume Inuyasha would like to continue your search for the jewel shards tomorrow."
Kagome giggled as she unrolled her futon."Thanks Kaede," she said. The girl climbed into her futon and held it open as Shippo snuggled in with her like he always did. Sango and Miroku climbed into their own futons while Inuyasha leaned against a wall with his arms and legs crossed like normal. Kaede walked into the small room off to the left and shut the door.
Inuyasha stared at Kagome as she fell asleep with a smile on her face. 'I have to tell her,' he thought to himself. 'I can't keep hiding my feelings from her.' The two of them had been through so much over the years and he never thought he could really love anyone after Kikyo but he was wrong. Time and time again Kagome showed him just how much she cared about him and how much she didn't want him to be anything different from what he was. That was real love. 'If Kikyo did truly love me, she would be here wouldn't she? She never would have wanted me to be human... would she? Course she would. She wanted me to be human fifty four years ago. She said it was the only that we could be together. Kagome is different though,' thought Inuyasha. Turning his head he looked out the window to the sparkling stars above.
He watched as a shooting star shot across the sky before looking back at Kagome with a small smile on his face. "Tomorrow," he said softly to himself. With a small yawn he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.
The next more the gang began their travels to find the remaining jewel shards. After two days and still no sign of the jewel they had settled at a small clearing near a river to camp for the night. Inuyasha and Miroku gathered wood while the girls and Shippo set up camp.
"I'm hungry," whined Shippo as the boys came back with the wood.
"I'll get dinner started," said Sango. The brunet got a fire going and gathered what they would need for dinner. After placing the cooking pot over the fire she held out a bucket to Kagome. "Kagome can you get us some water please?"
Kagome smiled and took the bucket from her friend. "Sure," she said. "Be back in a couple of minutes." Getting up she brushed dirt off her skirt before making her way through the woods towards the river. Nearing the river she could hear a faint sound of crying over the sound of the water. As she got closer her brown eyes spotted a basket by the water front where the crying was strongest. "What in the world?"
