Chapter 2- Burning Acid

The sound of sirens, the clicking of handcuffs, and the slamming of car doors were all that could be heard in the distance. The Villains had been taken care of for the most part, and the remainder of the injured victims were being escorted to ambulances.

Mina held a small girl in her arms as she skated towards safety on the steady stream of acid running down her legs and leaking through her shoes. The girl was small and light enough that Mina hadn't lost her balance, which she was notorious for. That wasn't really an option, anyways. This girl's life depended on her and she knew it. Even the classmates she was with were admittedly taken aback by her unusually serious demeanor. She really needed to concentrate on producing enough acid.

Yuuga followed just behind with a young boy slouched over his shoulder. The boy looked similar enough to the girl Mina was holding that it wouldn't be surprising if they were siblings—especially given that they were at the same (wrong) place at the same (wrong) time. Yuuga ran hunched over, both from the weight of the boy and the pain his laser had inflicted on his stomach.

Tenya and Tsuyu outpaced them both- with Tenya speeding two people forward—one on each arm—with his calf engines. Tsuyu hopped along with generous leaps and man she was carrying was bundled up tightly in her frog-like tongue.

The event seemed like a haze for all four of them until the injured civilians had been handed over to the medical professionals and strapped securely to gurneys. Only then did they feel the sensation of relief wash over their bodies. It wasn't a lasting feeling, however. Mina looked down at her cracking, burning skin. She'd overused her quirk, and the adrenaline had worn off enough that she could feel the pain.

Before she had time to complain, her thoughts were interrupted by a loud thump. Yuuga collapsed, clutching his stomach.

"Ah...d-damn it..." Yuuga stuttered before stopping to wince in pain. Mina skidded to his side on the still-slippery soles of her boots.

"Are you okay? Did you use your laser too much?" Mina asked, frantic. Fear was a rare emotion to see on Mina, but her dark eyes were filled with it as she spoke to her Yuuga, one of her best friends. Yuuga's face was considerably paler by the time Tenya bent down to pick him up.

"We should probably get him to the med station, too." He turned his gaze from the exhausted blond to the pink-haired girl. " Mina, are you alrigh-" His question was interrupted by a sharp, pained squeal. That was all the answer Tenya needed. As Mina stood up, the skin on her legs split more, agitating her smooth, pink skin. The overuse of her acid quirk was causing her skin to dry up badly. She plopped down on the asphalt. "B-burns!"

Despite Tsuyu's fatigue and the deep lacerations on her hands, feet, and tongue from probing through the sharp rubble, she quickly came to Mina's side. "I know it's hard right now, but we need to find the others. They could be injured worse." She croaked.

Yuuga managed a dull "Oui" just before entering a coughing fit. Tenya set him down gently. "You're right. I think that's more important right now. Tsu, try to help them the best you can. I'll try to find the others and guide them here while we wait on more ambulances." He made a quick nod towards his classmates before rushing off into the thick, gray cloud of dust.
