Chapter Two

The sun shined through the window and down on his desk. Severus took a peek on the bell behind the teacher, before he closed his eyes and tried to remember what he read last night. He continued to write and rolled together his fourth parchment roll. It was the fifth years students last O.W.L exam and soon the summer break would begin. Severus looked up from his desk and smiled when he got eye contact with Cannel McCartney. It was his best friend since first year at Hogwarts and he loved her very much. Sadly she was together with the idiot Sirius Black, who seemed to hate his and Cannels friendship. Severus understood that Sirius loved Cannel and made her happy, but she was worth someone better. His eyes went from Cannel to a red-haired girl a couple seats from him and his heart started beating faster. The girl's name is Lily Evans and she was perfect. She was both intellectual, beautiful and good hearted even though Severus never could talk to her without James Potter showed up and ruined it all.

I'm never going to get her, Severus thought and sighed heavy. He wrote another parchment roll until the teacher called on them to put away their quills. The teacher moved her wand and the parchments rolls flew up in the air. They flew over to his desk and landed neatly. She gave the students a signal and they started packing up their things. Severus got up and put his bag over the shoulder, and began walking to Cannel. He wanted to talk with her about summer, because he hoped they could spend more time together. Half way through the Great Hall Severus stopped when he saw Sirius get close to Cannel. It stinged in Severus heart so he turned around and left the room. Severus went down to his dormitory and left his bag, before returning to the entrance hall with a book.

Outside on the school yard Severus opened his book and started reading. He was walking towards the Forbidden Forest and tried to ignore people around him. In the corner of his eyes, he saw Cannel sitting by the lake with Sirius, Remus, Peter and James. Severus had been in love with Lily for a long time, but there's was something strong between him and Cannel. He could feel it when they talked and spent time together. They had a close friendship and sometimes Severus mind would slip and imagine them being together. He sat down in the shadows by the forest and continued reading. For a couple minutes Severus read in quiet but looked up when he heard familiar voices. He saw James and Sirius coming closer and he sighed.

Not again, Severus thought and closed his book. He saw that James had taken out his wand and waved it. A beam left his wand and suddenly Severus lifted up in the air with his head down. The laughter got louder and he just wanted to disappear. A voice appeared through the laughters and Severus fell down on the ground. He looked up on Lily, who seemed to argue with James about him, but it didn't stop Severus hatred towards James and Sirius. They have been watching Sirius and James bully him for five years without a care and he was sick of them all.

"I don't need your help mudblood" Severus said mad.

Cannel stopped James from getting revenge and she walked up to Severus. She yelled at James and Sirius, which seemed to chock many of the students around them. Severus got help from Cannel to stand up and he brushed off dirt. It happened very fast, but he watched as she broke up with Sirius and put his arm around her. Severus led Cannel up to the castle and down to Slytherins common room. They sat down in one of the sofas and Severus kept having his arm around her. She cried and sobbed quietly.

"Like you said, it's going to be okay." Severus whispered and stroked Cannels head. He could see past the tears and sadness, and all he saw was her beautiful face. It hurted him to see her like this, but he was happy of why she was sad.

"Can't believe I'm single for the first time since third year… I just couldn't stand watching them treat you like that" Cannel said and tried to smile. She would do anything for Severus and nothing was going to change that. "But I can't seriously believe you called Lily a mudblood!" She had a confused face and put a hand on Severus knee. It was a known fact that he liked her, even though Cannel never understood the reasons why.

Severus sighed and looked down on the floor. He couldn't believe it either, but it happened and now Lily was going to hate him forever. "I don't understand it either." It was a sad tone in Severus voice and a ache in his heart. He looked at Cannel and how amazing she was. She just broke up with her boyfriend and was comforting him. Severus couldn't understand how lucky he was to have her as a friend.

"If you and Lily are meant to be together, then it will happen. It's like they say: when you love someone let her go and if she loves you back, then she will return to you."

Cannels word spoke to Severus and he looked at her. He had always loved Cannel and Lily, but in this moment there was a voice telling him something else. It was Severus inner voice telling him that the person he should be with is sitting right in front of him.

"That's true. I let you go for two years and you've returned to me." Severus pulled Cannel closer and kissed her.
