Day 2
Louie's pov
I wake up to people shouting for me to wake up.
I hate mornings.
6:00 is always unreasonable.
I groan and pull my blanket over my head.
Dewey doesn't tolerate this.
"Wake up Lou Lou!" He shouts.
People sort of laugh and I pop up glaring at him.
"I thought we agreed on not using that name in public!" I mutter.
Dewey laughs and hugs me from the side.
"I have to do whatever it takes to get you to wake up!" Dewey beams.
"Whatever. Will you hand me my overalls? I wanna wear them today." I ask him.
"No! Get your own butt out of bed." Dewey jokes.
I sigh and reach over to my bag with a built in clothes rack.
If I didn't have the clothes rack, my stuff would be all over the floor.
I pull my overalls off the hanger and stand up to put them on.
Luckily, I already slept in my shirt I'm gonna wear today.
It takes me till 6:30 to be done getting ready and Dewey has already gone downstairs.
Ray is the only one still here.
"I think my bag is packed for the worksite. That being said, I think I'm ready to go down to breakfast." I declare.
"Good. It took you long enough." Ray laughs.
I grin and we head downstairs for breakfast.
I should probably get coffee to not be a total pain at the worksite, but I end up not doing that.
Manny sits down beside me.
"Ugh. Did you see the people that put notes inside the toilets?" Manny huffs.
I laugh and Dewey gives me a look.
"Oh yeah. That was hilarious!" I laugh.
Dewey scoots his chair closer to mine and places his arm around me.
That's only to whisper something though.
"It was you, wasn't it?" Dewey whispers.
I smirk and nod.
"I can't believe you would do that without me!" Dewey pouts.
"Sorry." I return the look.
"It's ok. If there are any toilet stunts again though, or letter stunts, make sure to include me." Dewey grins.
"How did you know that was me?" I ask.
"You text me, 'spam' all the time. How would I not know it's you?!" Dewey nudges me.
I blush and grin at me being stupid and I go back to eating.
We pray as a group before leaving, then we separate to our different team vans.
Great.
Willa is on my team.
She is the worst!
One time, my friend had a lock on the outside of their door, and Willa locked us in!
She also never really talks.
She is the worst!
I get on the bus and sit beside Mark, my sorta relative by a marriage.
He annoys me.
We pretty much stay silent the whole way to the worksite.
When we arrive, I'm already tired.
This is gonna be a long day.
It looks like a place in the middle of nowhere.
There this HUGE yard leading up to the house.
It's one story, but the flood water got all the way up to the ceiling.
We walk inside and see everything striped to the boards.
It's been a year since the flood and barley anything is done.
I am immediately assigned to cutting insulation.
I have to work with someone named, Jack.
Jack is a senior in high school and he just wants to be home.
He's a pastor's kid though, so he has to stay and work.
"Alright, so working with the homeowner in the house is a bit nerve wracking. The lady is nice though." He points out.
I get a bit bothered by the use of the word, 'lady' for the other homeowner, but that's just me.
"Yeah. The homeowners are pretty cool." I agree.
The homeowner that's working with us shows us how to cut the insulation and leaves us to it.
I'm a bit upset Dewey isn't on my work team, but maybe it's good.
"Do you wanna cut? I'll get measurements from the others." Jack asks.
"Sure. Let's do that." I agree.
Jack keeps bringing back measurements and I cut the insulation.
I'm itchy, sweaty, and I feel disgusting.
I've never been so great full for shower trailers.
"Did you hear the people running up and down the hall all night and writing ridiculous notes?" Jack rolls his eyes.
"Oh yeah. They were super loud." I nervously laugh.
"Kris came and yelled at them at some point. I think they were from another church." Jack concludes.
Nope!
"Or our church was making it very clear what was a potty." I joke.
Jack laughs and we talk a while longer.
"Break time! It's time for lunch!" Mr. Jeff, our team leader, shouts.
"Maybe our lunch person is awesome and will bring fast food." I joke.
The lunch person comes in and actually is holding two bags full of burgers from a fast food restaurant.
"You are the best! I love fast food!" I exclaim.
She smiles and hands out some burgers.
"Now I have a cooler filled with water and some brownies for you. I will need two boys to go get it please." She tells us.
Hold up!
I can name you about a hundred or more girls that I have met in person that are stronger than me.
Every girl here on this worksite is way stronger than me.
Same goes for the two guys that went to get the cooler.
I hate the gender barrier.
I want to yell at the lunch person (and notice I said lunch PERSON, not lady) for being like that, but I resist.
When she leaves, we open up our burgers.
There are mayonnaise all over it.
Eww!
Everything possible is on this burger!
I like mine with meat and cheese!
Sometimes the cheese even bothers me slightly being slightly lactose intolerant.
I try and eat some, but I barley do.
I scarf down some chips and a brownie and decide that's good.
"Back to work after devotions!" Alex, the team encourager, yells.
We listen to a devotion that wasn't well planned out or anything then go back inside to work again.
I mainly sit and talk to Jack.
I used to think I couldn't really talk to older people, but now Jack has proven that wrong.
I am almost falling asleep within the last few minutes, and so is everyone else.
We all decide to go back early (which Mr. Jeff's team always does) and take a shower first.
We load up and get in the van.
"Eww! I feel horrible! I hate fiberglass!" I cry.
No one really talks on the bus ride back except when Mr. Jeff keeps making wrong turns.
"No Mr. Jeff! We told you 50 times already! Turn right! Not go in another circle!" One person shouts.
We finally get back on the road and I almost fall asleep on the bus.
We all get off at the church and rush inside to get our shower stuff.
Once my shower bag is packed, I head to the trailers.
I barley wait in a line before entering this fairly nice shower trailer.
This is way better than last year!
I'm not gonna narrate my shower.
After I take my shower, I go back up to my room.
I wait a bit before Dewey gets back from the worksite and showers.
"Man, that was crazy! We went up on a roof. A roof!" Dewey jumps up and down.
I grin.
"Good to see you Dewey! I think I will have fiberglass in my skin for days! I did insulation." I groan.
Dewey bounces (lol) on our bed and scoots close to me.
"Let's see baby brother." He offers.
"No thanks. I don't want you to try and help with the fiberglass." I pull my arm he was trying to examine away.
"I just wanna help you. I want to see if you need to see the nurse for something." Dewey explains.
I give in and let him look at my arm through a magnifying glass.
"Yeah. You don't really have enough to worry about. We can't exactly do anything about two pieces." Dewey jokes.
"Ok. Let's just go to dinner then. Or wait, let's go a bit late so there is no line!" I exclaim.
"Great idea! Let's also wait for your friend, Ray." Dewey points out.
"That too." I agree.
We play on our phones a bit till Ray gets back and showeres.
We then go down and eat dinner together.
"Let's go sweeten this tea before worship." I suggest.
We all agree and head upstairs as the tea they had was gross and bland.
I pour like 50 sweeteners in mine as Ray puts one of each type of sweetener in his lemonade that he thought was bland.
"These taste great now! Let's go to worship." I lead the group.
Once we get down there, someone is holding up my notebook and I blush and retrieve it.
"I had stuff I wanted to keep between us in there. I forgot that." I nervously laugh.
Dewey grins and pushes me into a row.
We sit through sanctuary with Ray fooling around the whole time.
I admit we passed notes though.
After that, we go to E-team time.
"Hey everyone! I hope your day was good! Let's share something we learned from the lesson today!" Alex greets us.
"Uh oh." Dewey, Ray and I mutter.
Everyone has these great answers so we just agree with them and say we can't top their answers.
We are held there 30 minutes when it's supposed to be 10, then we go to our rooms.
"Hey Dewey! Ray! Get over here!" I gesture.
They come over to my and Dewey's bed.
"Let's write the notes and put them in every toilet! It will be awesome!" I plot.
Dewey agrees and Ray says he wants to sleep tonight.
"I'm gonna do it early and just have coffee in the morning. It's a plan Dewey!" I throw my arm around him.
He grins and give us thumbs up.
I head up to the 3rd floor's snack bar with Ray and Dewey and stand in line.
We see a dude there dancing in the hall to the YMCA song.
He was in my evangelism training meeting.
"Wow. Your church dude is crazy." I tell another person in line.
"Yeah. Hunter is the worst." She rolls her eyes.
"I'm pretty sure we have worse." I tell her.
"No way. You'll see in a second." She scoffs.
Hunter disappears and reappears after a few minutes in this ripped up super hero costume with his underwear over his pants.
He then starts dancing to crazy music again.
"Yeah. Y'all have worse." I agree with the girl.
Ray, Dewey, and I then get a blue slushy (the only flavor they had) and go down to our bedroom.
We sit around drinking slushes and talking until bedtime.
Once everyone is ready for bed and Alex turns off the light, I turn to Dewey to whisper.
"I can't believe people on the other side of the room are still complaining about us when Mr. Seth can't even hear us and he's beside us! They also complained about phones being on at the dimmest possible setting! No one can see that!" I complain.
"Truth. Let's just ignore them and get up to do the toilet prank!" Dewey smirks.
We sneak out and grab the notes we have already written.
Dewey goes downstairs and I go up.
We both meet back on our floor when we are done.
"How do we get the girls' toilets? We aren't aloud in their sleeping quarters." Dewey asks.
"We sneak over. Get out your wig for dares." I tell him.
"That's only if someone loses a dare that they have to wear that." Dewey shakes his head.
I give him cute eyes and he gives in.
Dewey grabs his wig and sneaks over there to get the notes delivered.
"Done. Let's go to bed though. I'm hoping for a better work day." Dewey says.
A/N
This chapter probably seems a bit rushed. Sorry about that. The next time they are on the worksite, it will be a longer story. I mainly have stories about the worksite the last two worksite days though. I only have to get through three more chapters and we are good! I am SUPER excited for my next story too and that might come out in between time. I'm not sure how this week will work with posting, but I will try hard to make it happen! Sorry for another late post. I stayed up late making sure this got done though! Please review! Thanks!
