Chapter Two

The workers arrived quickly and helped Aknamkanon, Yugi and Yami dig.

It didn't take long for the group of twenty or so people digging together.

The team worked together well and worked quickly.

"We're almost there," Yami said, seeing that the team had dug out a large section of sand.

They now stood on the rock at the base of the mountain, a ten-metre-wide section of sand pushed aside.

The sand resumed downhill after the two-metre ledge that was made of stone.

"We can't dig any deeper. We're on stone," Aknamkanon pointed out.

Yami smirked. "There is way more sand but that's not what we're going to dig out," Yami replied.

"We're going to dig out rock?" Yugi asked.

Yami turned back to the wall. "We shouldn't have to dig. Just pry the stone covering out of the hole," Yami replied, looking at the slightest indication of a crack that made a 2x4 metre doorway to the tomb that had evaded sights for millennias.

"What stone covering?" Aknamkanon asked with a frown.

"You'll see. We'll need something to pull the tight-fitting stone away," Yami replied.

Yugi's team advanced forward and Yami told them where to put the special devices into the stones.

They then threaded the thick rope through the devices.

"They're ready to pull," Yugi said, translating Egyptian for Yami since he doubted the young boy could speak it like he did English.

Yami nodded. "We may want to stand back. This is four metres in height and two metres wide," Yami replied.

Yugi and Aknamkanon nodded, moving out of the way with Yami.

Yami gave the signal and the team pulled.

They struggled because the sand wanted to move but after a while, they managed to pull the two-foot-thick stone out of the hole it had been shoved into thousands of years before.

The team quickly jumped out of the way as the stone rolled down the sand, stopping just before the campsite in the bottom of the valley.

Yami smiled as he looked at the opening of the tomb.

The team weren't as excited to see this.

Aknamkanon and Yugi were shocked when the Egyptian people from the former tomb robbing village screamed and ran as far away from the tomb as possible.

If they ran, then this was very bad.

The hairs on the back of Aknamkanon's neck stood up.

"Don't go in there, Yami," Aknamkanon said.

"When have you ever walked away from an adventure?" Yami asked, stopping to look at the hieroglyphics just inside the door.

"I run when they run. Something about this tomb frightens them and very few things frighten tomb robbers," Aknamkanon replied.

"Stay here then. I'm going in," Yami replied, grabbing and lighting the lantern one of the team members had brought up earlier.

The lantern hadn't been lit before as it was intended to be used during the night, just encase they had to keep working throughout the night.

"I'm going too," Yugi replied with an excited smile.

Aknamkanon gaped at his young friend. "You should learn to trust the villagers. They know when things aren't right," Aknamkanon said.

"Are you afraid of curses and all that?" Yugi asked, grabbing his video camera from his bag that he had put aside when the team had arrived about an hour before.

"No but-" Aknamkanon started.

"Hurry up or I'm going in without you and you won't get any footage!" Yami shouted, lighting a second lantern for Yugi.

"You're not going in there!" Aknamkanon shouted back.

"You can't stop me, Father! It's my find and I'm going to check it out!" Yami called back.

Yugi quickly ran to Yami, turning his camera on.

"Leave the old Geezer. We'll explore this new find on our own," Yugi said, taking one of the lanterns from Yami.

Yami chuckled and nodded, the two heading down the hall.

They both ignored Aknamkanon's shouts to return.

Aknamkanon was still too afraid to join them in the tomb.

Something bad was going to happen.

Aknamkanon just hoped that his son and friend knew what they were doing and that they would return safely.

Yami and Yugi walked through the hall, a little disappointed that the hall didn't have any paintings or hieroglyphs.

That seemed to have been reserved for the entrance and hopefully in one of the chambers that could be found at the end… If there were a chamber at the end.

"How long is this bloody hall?" Yugi asked after checking his watch and finding that they had already been walking in a dark hallway with no end in sight for fifteen minutes.

"Long but it probably had to be so that the tomb at the end wouldn't touch the tomb of another Pharaoh," Yami replied.

It was a theory at best, but it made sense to them.

"Quite possibly," Yugi said.

"I see the end," Yami said, running towards the end of the hall.

"Don't run! I want good footage!" Yugi called after him.

Yami chuckled at his new friend, stopping and lifting his lantern high so that Yugi could see a statue of Anubis at the end of the hall.

To the left of Anubis was another hallway and to the right was the statue of an unknown person.

"Who is that?" Yugi asked with a frown, finally reaching Yami.

The statue beside Anubis looked like Yami but that didn't seem to make sense.

The statue had his eyes closed and his lips were set into a soft frown, resembling what Yami looked like when he was fast asleep.

The statue was even painted to have the same coloured hair and the same skin colour as Yami.

"I don't understand. That's me?" Yami said, looking between Yugi and the statue.

"I can see that. I've never heard anything like this before," Yugi replied.

"Uh… Should we continue on or should we keep marvelling at my resemblance to this statue?" Yami asked.

"Oh… Let's keep going," Yugi replied.

Yami nodded and the two walked down the unexplained hall.

They didn't notice the statue beside Anubis opening his eyes, pink eyes narrowing at the two unwelcomed visitors in a supposedly sealed tomb.

~Who dares enter my tomb?~

Yami tensed and looked around.

He swore he saw pink eyes staring at him but when he looked again the eyes were gone.

"What's wrong?" Yugi asked, looking at the boy with him.

"I thought I heard something. It must be my imagination," Yami replied, shaking his head before he turned back down the hall.

Yugi shrugged and the two kept walking, failing to spot the eyes of the statue opening once again.

The statue stared at Yugi with an evil glint in its eyes.

~You must leave or find yourself trapped forever~

The sound was barely a whisper on the wind and only Yami seemed to be able to hear the whispers.

They once lead him here but now they terrified him.

"Something's not right here," Yami said, looking around with a scared look.

"There's nothing here, Yami. I promise. There's nothing that can survive thousands of years in a sealed tomb," Yugi said.

Yami let out a soft breath, knowing what Yugi had said to be true. "True," Yami replied.

From then on he ignored the sounds of the whisper upon the wind.

The statue smirked. 'Must be time for some fun,' the statue thought.

"Look! An opening! That must be the tomb!" Yami exclaimed excitedly, pointing to a door on the right.

"There's also a smaller one on the left," Yugi pointed out.

Yami pursed his lips as he thought about it. "Shall we go left and then right?" Yami asked. "It would mean that you could record both ways."

Yugi smiled. "I love the way you think," Yugi replied.

Yami chuckled softly and blushed, the two ducking down so that they could walk through the door that only went up to their hips.

Yami went first, followed by Yugi.

The chamber was full of beautiful golden items and hieroglyphics on the wall but that wasn't the most shocking part.

The most shocking part was a picture of what looked like Yami with what looked like a Pharaoh bowing down to him, as well as other people bowing to him.

"What the-" Yami muttered, gaping at the picture.

"You again? You seem to be somehow connected to the Egyptians," Yugi said.

"It's a coincidence. I swear," Yami replied quickly, seeming defensive.

Yugi chuckled and shook his head, going back to stand just in front of the door to the chamber so that he could look at the hieroglyphs at the entrance.

No one had noticed that they had been followed into the tomb.

It was a simple mistake but a very big one.

"I wonder what my connection was back then," Yami muttered.

The only answer he got back from Yugi was a scream, followed by the sound of a lantern shattering.

The lights flickered in the chamber and Yami felt his heart stop.

He bloody knew it!
