I owe you all so many apologies... xD I'm really sorry for the huge and I mean HUGE delay in this chapter! I was sort of going to give up on this story actually... but I decided to give it another shot since you all want to read it! :D Gah, I still feel like my writing isn't that great, but it's being converted from the manga to words, and from Saya to Diva. I don't own anything from Blood+ or anything from the Blood series. This series is going to take a LONG time to finish, so enjoy!
Chapter 2: We Meet Again
"Get on."
Diva silently climbed onto the seat back of Kai. He was a little taken aback by the silence from Diva, but decided not to question it. Instead, he rotated the throttle, taking off.
"... Kai..."
"What?"
Diva sighed, her eyes closed.
"Did you really use to play sports?" she asked solemnly.
Kai wondered about what he should respond with. He also wondered how Diva got the idea that he had played sports before. By the looks of it, he figured out that Diva wasn't in a very good mood.
"I did, but I quit before you came to live with us." Kai mumbled.
Diva's face still looked rather blank, as if she wanted to say something, but didn't know how to. A long silence lingered around them, creating an awkward atmosphere. Passing by them was a glimmering, blue lake below, glowing red from the sunset. Diva's favorite view.
"Admit it... I don't know anything from before I came to live with you guys." Diva sighed.
"Get those stupid thoughts out of your head. It doesn't matter to me, dad, or Riku that you don't remember anything. You're still family, aren't you?"
Diva wasn't so sure. She thought about what Mao had said before, again. Were her brother, father, Kai, herself, really not blood related? Why did she not know anything about them? Why did she not have any childhood memories, or even memories of the past year? Where was her mother?
Faking a smile as best as she could, she tried not to sound perplexed.
"Yeah, you're right."
Kai knew the smile was fake, but smiled back anyways.
"Great."
Arriving at the hospital entrance, Diva and Kai stepped off of the bike. There to greet them was Julia, Diva's usual doctor. She guided Diva into one of the rooms, closed the door, and hooked her up to a needle.
"It's good to see you again. Have you gotten anything that seems like a memory?" Julia asked in her usual cheery but business-like tone.
Diva shook her head no. She glanced at the needle that was on her wrist, and immediately the inside of her head cringed with a jerking pain and her wrist began to have a stabbing pain. She grasped her wrist tightly, trying to numb the pain. Her vision dimmed, the room spinning around her. Suddenly, she caught a glimpse in her mind of what seemed like metal bars, all evenly spaced out from each other. She heard what seemed like footsteps, coming closer and closer.
"Otonashi-san? Are you alright?" Julia asked.
The pain in her head stopped, her eyes stinging. Diva stayed silent for a moment. Noticing the sudden change in the atmosphere, Julia's friendly smile started to fade a bit.
"... Otonashi-san?"
Diva hesitated, unsure of what to say. That didn't seem like it should've been a memory, but it felt real. As if it had happened before. She decided to push it aside for now.
Forming something close to a half smile, Diva closed her eyes and sighed. She hoped her voice would come out normally.
"Y-Yes, I'm fine." she replied, her voice slightly quivering.
Julia gave Diva a suspicious look, but dismissed any conflicting thoughts she had for now. When the appointment was over, they both exited the room and went in opposite directions.
Turning around the corner of the hall, Julia ran into a close friend of hers. A tall, blond man, whose constant dark glare never faded from his face. Both of them smiled solemnly. Julia handed the man a few documents, one filled specifically with Diva's information.
"We need to talk."
Diva abruptly opened the door and headed up the stairs into her bedroom, not speaking a word or taking a glance at the others downstairs. Too tired to want to talk to anyone, she sat onto her bed. Wrapping a blanket around herself, she sighed. Thoughts of the past events that had happened today swirled around in her mind. What was that vision she had? Where was it?
Metal bars... a jail cell maybe?
Suddenly, Diva heard a few footsteps and then faint knock from behind the door.
Footsteps?
"Diva? It's me, Riku. Kai says we're going to go to the park!"
She couldn't put it all together. Not yet, at least.
"Coming!" Diva shouted back.
Diva threw her blanket off and ran downstairs, joining Kai and Riku.
The same blonde man Julia met earlier was standing in front of the bar next to Diva's father. Drinking his liquor in one shot, he glanced at George.
"It's been a year already, George. You haven't forgotten the purpose of this, have you?" he asked, his voice firm.
"She's been living her life as a high schooler, and she hasn't gained any memories back. This wouldn't be fair to her, David." George argued.
The man put his shot glass back onto the table, trying to think as George took a drink from his own glass of liquor.
"No matter how unfair it is to anyone, you have to look at our current situation here. It's either she fights now or we all end up dying because of not being prepared. I did warn you not to get too attached to her." he remarked coolly.
"What do you want me to do then?" George remarked, irritated.
Suddenly, a shrill ringing came from David's pocket. Reaching inside he pulled out his cellphone.
"It's me."
His calm expression turned into a mix of shock and fury.
"What do you mean they're on the move?!"
"I'll meet you two at the park later, then." Diva said.
"We're just going to buy some drinks. We'll be back in a few minutes. Want anything, Diva?" Kai asked.
Diva shook her head. "No, I'm okay. You two go ahead." she replied.
Sitting down on a nearby bench, she noticed the same slender blond-haired man she saw at the dance studio with Kaori sitting at another bench near the trees. The man had a depressed look on his face, as if he was longing for something or someone. Diva felt a sudden rush of warmth around her.
"Excuse me."
Diva jumped up and looked behind her, to see the man who was sitting on the other bench.
"Are you Diva?" he asked.
Before she could answer him, Kai and Riku appeared at the park entrance.
"Diva, come on! We're supposed to make dinner tonight." Kai shouted.
Just as she was about to walk to her brothers, Diva felt someone grab her wrist.
"Wait, I need to ask you something!" the man said quickly. Suddenly growing panicky, Diva jerked her hand back.
"S-sorry, I have to go!" she replied, awkwardly half running and walking to Kai and Riku.
"Who was that? Did you know him?" Riku asked.
Diva took another glance at the man, and closed her eyes. "No. Let's go."
And that took way too long, because I couldn't figure out how to properly write that last part. Still doesn't sound right, but it's the best that I could've came up with. ^^" I'm SO sorry! Like I said, I was actually about to give up. I did write part of it a month or two ago, but I got distracted... heh. To put it bluntly, I saw how many people wanted me to continue, so I felt like I had to. Thanks for reading!
