Chapter 2: Lockdown
Tsuna's back crashed against the wall as Hibari advanced towards him. "Please d-don't hurt me!" Tsuna's voice trembled while he shut his eyes in fear. Smirking, Hibari raised his steel tonfa, ready to bash in the brunet's skull. Tsuna peeked though one of his eyes. A silent gasp escaped his lips as he ducked, dodging death by a millimeter. The tonfa was wedged into the wall, cracks rippled through the solid structure.
Interest flickered within Hibari's eyes as Tsuna flung him an exasperated look. "Don't you know what's going on? What's wrong with you, that could have killed me-" Tsuna cupped a hand over his mouth; he was talking to probably the most feared person in all of Namimori. His hand dropped to his side as he glared up at the Disciplinary Head, although it looked more like a pout.
The mild outburst echoed throughout the empty hallways but no one was around to hear it. Hibari's curiosity rose as he gazed at Tsuna slumped against the wall. "You have the audacity to talk to me that way?" Hibari countered Tsuna's glare with his own, causing the boy to look away abruptly.
Hibird, who managed to sit atop some lockers nearby, perched himself on Tsuna's mop of disheveled sienna hair once again. Hibari briefly glanced at the yellow bird, silently cursing him for his betrayal. Pulling out his weapon from the wall, Hibari bent down to Tsuna's height and whispered, "Answer me." Tsuna shivered as the prefect's cool breath hit his face, allowing him to take in his jade scent.
Just as an answer was about to be given ominous moaning erupted in the air. Hibari scowled as he searched his pockets for keys. Tsuna's eyes darted around while he struggled to move his body but terror had taken over him. "Oh God, it's happening again." The terrified brunet pushed himself off of the wall as the lights dimmed.
Hibari's scowl deepened, "What's happening?" Hearing no answer, Hibari forgot about Tsuna and sauntered down the corridor with his keys in hand. Meanwhile, Tsuna was trapped in a daze.
"This is all just a nightmare…." He pinched himself on the cheek but to his dismay he was actually awake and everything was a reality. Looking around, Tsuna muttered, "Where'd that tonfa freak go?" Finally spotting him, Tsuna made a bee line for the Reception Room but Hibari already shut the door behind him. Tsuna's eyes pleaded with Hibari through the glass, begging to be let inside. The Disciplinary Head shook his head, a smirk plastered onto his face.
Tsuna's eyes began to water as Hibird tweeted, "Open! Open!"
"Only Hibird can come in."
"Come on, please!" The lights were dangerously low and the groans of those things grew louder by the second. Hibari yawned as he paced around the room, keeping an eye on Tsuna through the small window. Tsuna banged helplessly on the wooden door, hating Hibari more and more. Whipping his head to the side, Tsuna noticed another one of those things were flying towards him. Flying? "Why is it flying this time? I didn't sign up for this!"
Just as Tsuna was going to piss his pants, he was on the floor and kicked to the side. "Ouch…" Hibari finally opened the door and let Tsuna in at the last minute. The prefect slammed the door and locked it, ducking beneath the glass pane as the creature zoomed by.
After several seconds Hibari stood to his feet and glanced at Tsuna, who was still clutching his waist in pain. Whining, Tsuna asked, "Did you have to kick me inside?"
The raven haired teen arched an eyebrow at his question. Why wasn't he scared? This was something new for Hibari, people usually cowered in fear and steered clear of him. "Just be glad I let you in." He seethed as his gaze moved from the brunet and onto the yellow fluff ball on his desk. Narrowing his eyes, Hibari walked over to his work area and lightly pet Hibird on the head with his index finger. "Why are you here after school hours?"
Tsuna's ears perked up at the sound of the other's frigid voice. Pouting, Tsuna sat up and remained on the floor while rubbing his side.
"Today, Herbivore."
"Well maybe if you didn't kick me so hard…" A Tsuna in pain was a sassy Tsuna. Hibari's glare intensified and Tsuna knew it was best not to tick him off too much. Quickly looking away, the brunet explained what happened over the last few hours.
~-_-Please don't vanish tonight-_-~
A light trail of smoke lingered in the air, eventually vanishing only to leave a vague scent behind. Crushing the cigarette beneath his foot, Gokudera rubbed his sides as the cold winter wind bit at his exposed skin. "Che. Havin' me come all the way out here for something he could have said over the phone." He grunted as he steadied his flashlight and hurried across the street.
A tall building loomed over him, daring him to take a step inside. Gokudera dug into his back pocket and fished out his wallet. A crimson red card resided in one of the slots. Taking it out, he held it in front of a small scanner besides the entrance which caused the door to slide open. The grumpy teen stepped inside.
He stood in the lobby of one of Vongola's many establishments. Usually, people were bustling around at a time like this. It was pitch black; the place looked deserted as if everyone had retired for the night.
Gokudera checked his cellphone for the time.
7:51 pm.
"He already dispatched everyone…" He mused to himself as he shuffled over to the elevator. The light of his flashlight began to dim and fade. "Shit…" Gokudera grumbled as he violently pushed the elevator button. Hearing the shrilling screams of those monstrous creatures, the delinquent banged his flashlight against the wall in an attempt to get the batteries running.
He pulled out his cellphone once more but curses escaped his mouth seeing as how it didn't provide enough light. Placing his back against the elevator doors, Gokudera noticed a dark puddle forming a few feet away. Out of the puddle emerged a bandaged man. This guy was dangerous but Gokudera was stricken with fear. The man remained where he stood, watching.
Suddenly, Gokudera fell backwards and landed on the floor as a fairly loud "ding" hung in the air. The albino pushed himself into the elevator, rolled on his side and hopped onto his feet. He smashed the button that would take him to the top floor and waited for the doors to close. He watched in silence as the strange bandaged man submerged into the puddle as the doors closed. Leaning his head on the cool metal, Gokudera let out a sigh.
The elevator opened once again and a long, dark hallway awaited Gokudera. He stepped out of the safety zone and squinted. Hands gliding against the wall, he strode down the shadowy corridor. Once his hand landed on an all too familiar doorknob, he hesitantly pushed it open, peeking inside.
A young man dressed in a suit sat behind a black sleek desk, his eyes were hidden from view due to the tipped fedora that lay on his head. Next to him stood a beautiful woman with faint pink locks of hair and lavender eyes. "Hayato." The women clasped her hands together and smiled, her eyes sparkling with relief.
A pinch of pain etched itself into Gokudera's stomach at the sight of her but it subsided after several seconds. "Bianchi." Gokudera nodded his head in acknowledgement as his gaze moved from his sister and landed on the suited man. Gritting his teeth, he spat, "Reborn."
The man smirked before straightening his hat, revealing eyes drunk with mischief. "What took you so long Gokudera?"
"It's a fucking pain to travel with those things lurking around." Gokudera dragged his feet along the carpeted floor and collapsed onto the couch towards the side of the room.
"At least you managed to make it back here without being taken." Reborn said, his smirk falling "I have much to tell you."
~-_- Don't Leave Me Behind -_-~
"I'm telling you that's what happened!" Tsuna said, exasperated. He was seated on the sofa now and Hibari stood in front of him.
"You expect me to believe that?" Hibari sternly replied while glaring down at the brunet.
"Why would I lie?" Tsuna attempted to meet the skylark's glare with a glare of his own but failed miserably. All of a sudden Tsuna became very interested in his hands because that's where his attention was glued to for the next few minutes
"What do they want from you?"
"Huh?"
"One of those herbivores left a message." The prefect ceased his scrutinizing and walked over to the door, peering through the glass panel. "Come." Perplexed, Tsuna did as instructed and followed Hibari. The raven haired teen pointed to the eerie message carved onto the tiles.
"We will…obtain your light…," Tsuna read in a hushed tone. "Tsunayoshi." He finished. Hibari's eye didn't miss the brunet's shaking shoulders or the boy's uneven breathing. The poor boy was terrified.
"You don't know anything about them then." Hibari swirled around and retrieved his tonfas from atop his desk. Tsuna shook his head. "Stay here." Hibari ordered while placing his hand on the doorknob.
"Where are you going?" Tsuna slammed his hand on top of Hibari's, his eyes watery from tears threatening to fall. The skylark directed his gaze at Tsuna and shot him an icy glare, not faltering at the sight of the other's tears.
Only now realizing what he had done, Tsuna quickly retracted his hand and diverted his attention to the floor. "Stay here. Hibird stay here with him." Hibari said as Hibird swooped in and landed on Tsuna's shoulder.
Tsuna scooted away from the door and watched the Disciplinary Head leave. "Tsuna, Tsuna!" The bird chirped as it pecked at Tsuna's face, trying to lift the brunet's spirits. A smile tugged at his lips and he made his way back to the sofa. "Hibari is pretty scary. I hope he doesn't beat you up."
A sigh escaped Hibari's lips as he sauntered down the dark hallway, making his way to the cafeteria to investigate. Usually, he would have Hibird come along and help search but Hibari was sure Tsuna didn't want to be alone and would insist on following him. He'd get in the way. Swerving around the corner and down a flight of stairs, Hibari pushed open the double doors that led to the lunchroom.
This was certainly a peculiar sight. Who was this person standing in the midst of a group of students?
A small buzzing in Tsuna's pocket distracted him from Hibird's constant jabbing of his cheek. "A-ah, who could that be?" Tsuna read the caller ID before his eyes went wide. He hastily picked up and let out and uneasily said, "Yamamoto?"
"Tsuna? Thank God you're okay… Listen where are you?"
"I'm in the Reception Room."
"Okay, you should be fine over there especially if Hibari is with you, even though he hates company."
"What about you? Are you alright? Where are you?"
"I'm in the cafeteria but you-"
"Hmm? What's this? ... Who're you talking to?" Tsuna couldn't recognize who that voice belonged to, they didn't sound dangerous or threatening but rather playful and taunting.
"Whatever you do don't go to the lunchroom." The line went dead.
A foreboding aura surrounded the brunet as he thought about what Yamamoto told him. 'Don't go to the cafeteria? Why?' He shot up out of his seat on the sofa and made his way to the door. "Something bad is gonna happen…"
Even knowing this, Tsuna couldn't just sit while Yamamoto and possibly Hibari were in danger. Although Tsuna cared less for latter he still had a heart and a big one at that. That and Yamamoto was in peril. He was mainly going for Yamamoto; Hibari could protect himself since he was a violent obsessed weirdo. "Come on Hibird." Hibird gave an eager chirp and resettled itself in Tsuna's nest of hair. Tsuna cautiously opened the door, stuck his head out and glanced down the dim hallway before bolting down the hall and heading down to the lunchroom.
Panting heavily with his hands placed on his knees, Tsuna stood right outside the cafeteria. "S-should I really go in?" The brunet received several tweets, encouraging him to walk on right through those doors and make sure Yamamoto was alright. "Y'know all you have to do is hide in my hair." Tsuna huffed.
Hazel eyes stared upon the door as clammy hands reached for their handles. 'This is it…'
Tsuna wasn't expecting to be greeted by such a view.
"Kufufu, looks like the little rabbit finally showed up." A stranger with mismatched eyes dressed in an obsidian overcoat chuckled while swinging a trident back and forth.
"Herbivore, I told you to remain in the Reception Room."
Who was this pineapple headed guy?
A/N
Alright, I'm gonna clarify some things here. This is an AU so some stuff isn't gonna be the same as the actual show but of course I'm sure a lot of already know that. The current setting is Namimori High school and its January. It's been a few months and I kinda forgot where I was heading with the plot but I still remember the ending I had in mind.
That being said this story will mainly focus on 1827 I won't go into developing any other romantic relationships while writing this fic considering how that's a big pain and there is actually a plot for once. Every male is not going to be attracted to another male because that's incredibly unrealistic. Yamamoto and Gokudera, the farthest they'll ever reach is bros. But if you guys really want it I wouldn't mind putting in some fluff here and there.
Also I have yet to decide whether or not the First Generation Vongola are going to play an active role in this story. I also have not made up my mind on whether to choose 5, 15, or 25 year old Lambo/I-pin, (I'm heavily inclined to using the 25 year old versions) So if you're interested in seeing a certain version or any other characters please say so in your review. I actually would like to somehow involve every character into this fic.
Ages :
Tsuna-16 Gokudera-16 Yamamoto-16
Ryohei-17 Mukuro-17 Hibari-18
Reborn-?¿? Bianchi-22
You get the general idea. More to be added soon.
*****Also since the characters are a bit older I've portrayed them in a more mature manner. Gokudera doesn't go around yelling at everyone and Hibari doesn't beat up somebody at every given second. Tsuna doesn't stutter like 10 times and he can be a bit sassy. Woopty doo
I'm so sorry you read all that. I haven't written in a few months and some critique would be great. Thank You.
