Severus:

A deep breath and he would pass the threshold into the Forest.

He would right,

Now.

Two deep breaths later, Severus Snape was still standing in the same spot.

*I'm being worse than pathetic,* he growled at himself but still did not lift his foot for a step.

Severus was not afraid, he was no coward and he did not run from things. Where he refused to proceed was not a dangerous place, if you held no dangerous intentions. On the contrary, it was a vast beautiful forest, with willow tree canopies and rivers with large stepping stones covered in bright green moss. It was calming place with rippling streams that trickled and glistened in the flickering sunlight during the day and evenings, while at night it's lulling noise and calmness was said to put even the bull-frogs asleep. White deer-like magical creatures, whose males held large gold and silver antlers traveled along side with unicorns and other beautiful creatures that traversed this place freely and unthreatened. There was no such laws of time or space, and within the wood, the world sat still. This was a sacred place for the beautiful, and beautiful was something Severus Snape was not.

A child's giggle took his attention, and his eyes caught the last of something small slip behind a tree. A moment later, the form of a glowing transparent child broke from behind the trunk and run into the forest, turning around at the last moment before entry, giving a wave for him to follow and another giggle as it turned around ran off. Severus looked around once more, before slouching his hands in his pockets and following the entity into the crying trees whose tears flowed as soft, pink petals that layered the trail he stepped.

He moved over the boulders skillfully, regaining balance over the water lapped the moss that created a slick surface he hadn't noticed. He moved past rising heads of a grouping of deer a short distance away, their pink eye's glaring through his impurity as he continued his chase of the child.

He felt his feet hit the solid ground of a small island the child chose but quickly vanished upon his landing. At once, he was surrounded by the igniting of hungry flame that spread around his feet, lighting the small island and creating a sigil of alert and draining around him. Nothing happened, but he knew better then to move.

The sounds of clattering bones came from over his shoulder. He did not move.

The sound of feet landing in water sounded just out of his peripheral. He did not look.

This was like a scene from some mythology story. A stone man clad in black robes, stands alone on a small island lit by fire, water and earth. The wind chimed unique sounds as a figure stood behind the man, testing trust and loyalty. Severus Snape did not move a muscle as a fully cloaked creature moved through the water approaching behind him.

"What brings your travels to this place, Stranger?"

He turned now and met the skull muzzle of a large wolf, and he went to avoiding the black ominous eyes that stared at him from under the hood.

"I am here to speak to Sygn." He announced calmly at the creature, who looked hunched and elderly as it stood in the water, leaning heavy on a curled stick that held a blue flame lantern.

A fog dropped thickly around him and the creature stepped back until fully faded away, bringing a sense of capture to Severus who did not like the blinding of the walls around him. He turned his head as a second robed creature appeared from the fog on his other side, and upon further inspection of the creature that moved up onto the island opposite of him, stood taller and wore the helm of a shrunken Dragon Skull imprinted with deep black tears, markings and sigals..

"Severus?" A women's voice rose from the abyss behind the mask.

"Alerian, I would like to see Sygn. Can you bring me to her?" his level was soft but his tone was stone and chilled.

"Come." The women said softly, turning away and leading him from the spot quietly. As the toe of his back foot lifted fully from the island, the fire around him went out, returning the space to moon drenched beauty. He came up slow behind the elder, unaware of where to properly stride or place himself as he traveled over stones and not necessarily in a straight line. After a time, he found Alerian's pace land next to him as she strolled through the water and stone as he continued to avoid the stream.

Alerian was a terrible creature. They all were.

As Elder and Loa, Alerian controlled this space and it's entirety, which also meant she controlled your exit of her realm and judged your intentions to the full. This was a game, and Severus walked on completely aware he would not reach their goal until she wanted him to. The rare few who escaped the wood would say to the right people, that she leads the unworthy to their starvation and death. She creates illusions and anonymous sounds that would drive the victim crazy with fleeting appearances, touches and sounds that could be heard and felt more clear against anything else. She drives you to your insanity, before bringing you to a painful death.

"It's been a long time, Severus." Her voice was the wind and carried through the empty air around his ears.

"It has." He grunted as his foot slid on a slick stone.

"Last time you were here..."

"I am aware of the damage I have done, Loa. I remember."

"But do you recognize opinions past your own?"

"Do refer to feelings?"

"For your kind, yes."

"It's difficult when I hardly recognize my own these days."

Silence. And against the silence was emptiness. This space held no echo, and the weight of the air hung uncomfortably light as they continued their path. Severus was no stranger to knew her game.

"You act as if you wish for me not to see her."

"My wishes hold meaningless in such circumstances."

"As clan leader,"

"-I have a responsibility to think with clarity and my mind, and not be fogged by emotions and weight of heart. I must do what is right, not what I desire. If Sygn reached out to you, my words are pointless.

"Thank you, Loa."

She lead him through the shade of the moon until he saw the flickering of purple and blue fires. They had reached The Forsaken Town inside the Forgotten Forest, which was occupied by almost mythical creatures that could pass as human, but only by looks.

The town was created by wooden huts that were raised off of the ground and roofed with sticks and animal hide, the ladders that lead to each cloth covered door and porch was made from bamboo and were held together with, fine silver. Tiki torches made an outer wall that circling the rather large town while lanterns hung from trees along side bones, jars, and ribbons that stretched across the open canopy exposing the most beautiful constellations of stars. A large bond fire was lit in the middle of a seemingly popular spot, illuminating a large portion of the surrounding huts and businesses. He could hear the farm animals off into the darkness where the land was free for them to roam. Upon his arrival on the solid plate of ground, the awake occupants turned around and Severus met the empty stare of about five or six various skulls and faces, that all expelled loathing by his intrusion on their private world.

She took them from the large fire and she led him one row behind the illuminated houses and made her way up stairs stopping to hold the blanket door to the side, allowing him in first. Severus stepped into the large open room and looked around. It was very dim and only lit with a few torches and lanterns, a small dyeing fire cracked in the corner. His eyes adjusted, and he saw the bed set up, kitchen the lied the hut and the fireplace and sitting place that sat center of the large, single roomed rectangular hut.

Alerain dropped the heavy curtain behind him, leaving him alone which was very expected and very much undesired.

"Sygn?" He breathed into the near darkness and at once a body dropped from the ceiling and the lights lifted and brightened the room to a soft glow. He took a step back and watched what rose into view wore the familiar, painted Hippogriff skull.

Sygn, and her people can not be imitated. Her form can not be faked or doubled. Sygn is of another time, another space, a magic that lay near forgotten to all human kind except the rare worthy who found upon them fairly.

Severus Snape was one of these worthy.

This was an ancient tribe of Dark Magic creatures. Humans by look, demons by heart. Banned from the world and forced into fable even among the magic world. There is hardly a written piece of truth or information about these creatures anymore. Those who know of them, know the truth; and those who know the truth, are rare to speak anything they know. These creatures win their skulls fairly, and wear them to show battle skill and talent of the hunt along with magical infusing which is done on the Helm. As long as Severus knew of Sygn, she always wore a Hippogriff, as was her prize and most worthy kill, but not the largest she had destroyed. She wore animal skin over her upper half that wrapped her shoulders and sloped down to a point which sat above her pierced and tattooed navel. She wore a low sitting, long skirt with same but lighter material, and a black and purple belt that hung with a baggie unknown continents. A silver aunk and the Helm of Awe hung off the belt, and a long slit ran up the side allowing for full leg movement, and exposed her lightly tattooed leg to knee height. On her feet she wore nothing, nor would she or any of her kind be in such need.

He closed his eyes as her hand reached up and her cold translucent-feeling fingers traced his cheek.

"Stop." He took a step back as she started moving to him. The skull tilted sadly at him as a wind picked up and pushed petals over his shoes and across the floor.

"Sygn...why did you summon me." he gave a soft warning tone, flashing his eyes into the shadowed sockets.

"I did not summon, I merely requested action of a promise." her voice came from under the skull and Severus closed the space between them giving a sigh. He placed his hands on either side of the skull, and rose it from her over head, exposing black tattoos that rose from her neck and danced over her chin and swirled over her deep purple lips. A mask of war paint ran across her eyes and dripped down into spikes that dipped over her cheek bones. Under her left eye, she had 3 stones placed right under three points, and they glowed red, purple, red.

"It's been along time."

"It has." He sighed passing the skull to it's owner, as her backwards waved horns finished growing on either side of her skull.

"How have you been?"

"With all the respect I can give, I did not come here assuming pleasantries."

A part of him hated removing her skull, for such a demon she knew how to express her comparable emotions as she gave a frown.

"Are you still sitting affected by the past?"

"I seek to know if your not." Severus quietly admitted

"I am not."

It was an odd sort of release of stress. He could let go knowing she did, but he couldn't make up for what he did. Not now anyway.

"What can I do for you Sygn?" He asked softly as he allowed her into his space, giving a sigh as her fingers traced his robed chest and shoulders.

"Your world is darkening, and an old friend has reached out and called upon the magic which is us. I wonder, if you could deliver a gift to our old friend, I could reward you with something of my own."

"Such as?"

"A piece of lost trust."

His black eyes shot to the ground and he gave a nod after a moment. Her chilled fingers placed under his chin and lifted his head back up before whispering in the air and moving her clawed nails in the air.. A package formed on its own and gently landing in her palm which she extended to him.

"Take this to Albus Dumbledore. Tell him it's an offering of our help and loyalty."

"You know him?"

Sygn gave a small smile and slipped her fingers through his, giving a lasting squeeze before stepping back and gesturing towards the door and raising the skull back to her face .

"I hope you remember there is a place for you here."

He shook his head before turning and sweeping out of the hut.

"Magnificent!" The headmaster exclaimed in front of the pair as he raised the necklace from the box.

It was Severus and Minerva who stood in his office watching the gift lift into light and clear view.

"What is it Albus?" Minerva awed.

"A time-turner..." Severus breathed, taking a step forward very much intrigued.

"This is a magnificent gift indeed..." The Headmaster gawked once more, lowering the gift carefully on into the box before passing it to the other two to look at it close up.

"What are you going to do with it?" Severus asked, bringing a full smile to the Headmasters face as he watched the Slytherin shine true, as his potions master looked over the Griffons' shoulder at the gift.

Severus, my boy, you never did tell me how you came to contact with Sygn and her fellow creatures?"

"How did you get in contact with them, Albus?" Severus shot with controlled anger.

Albus looked over his glasses, giving his youngest staff member and humorous grin, nodding when the mans eyes came off the necklace and flashed the headmaster a "cocky" smirk.

"It was an Enlightening journey, Severus. One that spanned three continents and three years."

"On pure hint, you traveled the world searching for the Darkest of the Darkest, hope you did had fun."

The old man only gave Severus a waiting look, and in hope to find sanity with Minerva, Severus found himself looking into her pressing eyes.

" When Lucius and I were teenagers I found the clue and told him about it. Seeing how we were...us..., the clue interested us and for the next four years, Lucius and I followed your same exact path, through the same exact places, and he even got to scale his first mountain ..three different times."

The two quietly looked at each other while Minerva looked confused at them both.

"May I ask what prompted such a travel?"

Severus stalled uncomfortably with such detail involving his friend, "Lucius was to be wed a few years from that time and I suppose he wanted one last outing.. it took longer than intended and promised, but we finished it."

"What held you up, if I may pry?"

Severus said nothing and stiffened his features, placing the box containing the Time Turner back on the desk.

"He got hurt.."

"His knee?" The headmaster attempted to push his luck and was rewarded by a glare and then the answering nod.

"Not just his knee."

"Everyone make a sacrifice,"

"Of different degree's."

" It's in the rules, my Boy.."

""Excuse me, Headmaster," Minerva finally made herself heard.

"I have been standing here quietly hoping a sort of explanation would be given.. but I only stand her getting more and more confused."

"NecxroDamned. Have you heard of them, Minerva?" Albus asked seriously .

"No.. I cant say that I have."

"What if i told you a story about a group of rebel demonists at the beginning of all Magik. That they were the first to perfect the art of controlled possession and power, using blood magic and Necromancy? Well, when the world found out, they were exiled away. They were content being secluded from, but even then the world could not ignore their sins. A few centuries later, a rumor of Hells Army came to light and the Kingdoms had enough.. Gorilla warfare was established with out warning and quickly the Templars and Kingdoms of the time, over powered and destroyed their kind of all except a royal few who disappeared and created their forest."

It was Severus turn to take over, "The Templars and Magic decedents such as Merlin, did their best to destroy their existence from humanity without knowing creatures still walk among us. Over the centuries, they slipped themselves into books and into residential libraries. Their methods and beliefs mixed and hidden within scripture and news papers. The term we gave them is NexroDamned...though they call themselves The Veil.

"In both our worlds there are an extremely large amount of books where a few single paragraphs sits waiting to be found and its secret is to be discovered by only the most worthy of such intelligence. Its so simple, it's almost invisible. Once you find it, you want to follow it. First, you get contacted and left a message in some random spot, and you go on your first few "missions" within the town the book is found. Then, you are asked to go on your first travel. Follow the clues, its a game. Very off though, because it's completely unbiased. Muggle, Magic, Creature, Human. Anything that can read and comprehend, has a fair chance of finding it..."

A gasp erupted from Severus's throat as his spine curved upward, swaying his hips as her mouth made contact with his lower features. He felt her air in between his fingers, and tightened his grip as another breath caught his lungs.

He was young when he first found their tribe. People who hunted the secret out of power and it's blackness sought to become The Veil, and he and Lucius were no different. To adapt and take host, to thrive by magical blood and sacrificial ceremonies; to loose themselves behind skulls of their killed and be feared as myth.

The Vale is something Severus wanted.

He had an immediate fixation on Sygn, and she held one back. It was a bundle of ramped teenage hormones, promises and strong emotions. Lily was gone and had become pregnant with James Potters child, so he knew the thought of ever getting her back was gone.

*'Maybe' James Potters Child...* his thought whipped viciously in his mind, reeling a few nights prior when an argument between James and Lily broke out and she ran to the only man she really knew for comfort.

Him.

Sygn showed true love, but his other life pulled him away, and as he found himself excepting the help of Albus Dumbledore, did he finally break things off fully. It was nothing ever romantic, at least not to him. They never acted like they were together, and they both never tried to make it seem so. But for some reason calling it all off, had broken her demonic heart.

Severus took one last look at the Time Turner which sat on the Headmasters desk, before turning around and stalking out of the room.

There is no Harry/Snape. That was my poke... i just thought it fit
