Unbreakable Love

No copyright infringement intended. In the first chapter Jack & Elizabeth went on their honeymoon and enjoyed every minute of being together. They traveled to Niagara Falls to spend a few days then they spent the last part of the week at a secluded cabin in the woods near Hope Valley. After that they returned home and started getting ready to move into their new home. In this chapter it's been about two months since Jack & Elizabeth became husband & wife and returned from their honeymoon. They have moved into their new home, are getting used to married life, and couldn't be more in love. Hope you enjoy! Happy reading Hearties!
Chapter 2
It was a beautiful spring day in Hope Valley! The date was April 22, 1915. It had been almost 2 months since Jack & Elizabeth had returned from their honeymoon and moved into their first house. The time was about 6:45 and like always Jack and Elizabeth woke up in each other's arms. As they looked into each other's eyes smiling
Jack said, "Oh Elizabeth, I just fall in love with you more and more every day."
Elizabeth with a gleam in her eyes responded by saying "Awe...I feel the same way darling. You're amazing!"
Before they got up to get ready for the day they leaned in close to give each other a good morning kiss. After they got ready, Jack asked her if she wanted to go to Abigail's for a little breakfast before school. She told him "Yes, that sounds wonderful. "As they walked out of their house and to Abigail's Cafe they held hands talking and just enjoying each other's company.
After breakfast they told Abigail thank you and that they would see her later. When they left the cafe Jack offered to walk Elizabeth to school and carry her books. It was about 7:50when they arrived at the schoolhouse. Since Jack carried Elizabeth's books, he went inside to sit them on her desk before walking back outside to talk to her a few more minutes. He told her he had to make his morning rounds and do some paperwork but that he would be back at lunch to check on her and see how the day was going.
Before he left to head to the jail, Jack gave her a kiss on the cheek and said, "Have a great day honey! See you later!" Elizabeth then told Jack, "Thank you darling! Have a great day! See you later!"
A few seconds later all the kids were starting to arrive. Elizabeth rang her cowbell and told all her students good morning as they were walking into the schoolhouse. Right before she closed the schoolhouse doors and Jack headed to the jail he turned his head around slightly to face Elizabeth with a big smile. He then thought to himself how proud he is of her and how lucky he is to be married to the most beautiful, amazing woman in the world. Elizabeth, of course smiled back at him thinking to herself how proud she is of him and how lucky she is to be married to the most handsome, amazing man in the world.
When school started, Elizabeth told all her students good morning. They all responded by saying "Good morning Mrs. Thornton." Elizabeth then told everyone what their first lesson of the day would be. Their first lesson of the day was history. After spending a few hours on their history and English lessons it was time for lunch & recess. As the kids were eating lunch & enjoying recess, Jack arrived at the schoolhouse to check on Elizabeth. As soon as he got there he saw Elizabeth sitting on the steps. He walked over to sit next to her and see how her day was going? She said that it was going well but that she was having trouble with one of her students. She told him that this student was deaf and that she couldn't understand or find a way to help her. Jack could tell she was stressed so he took her hands and said, "Elizabeth, you are an amazing teacher and I know you can figure it out. I love you honey and will be here to help if you need anything." Elizabeth then said "Thank you Jack! That means a lot! I love you too darling!" After she said this, she still looked stressed & Jack could tell. Jack, with a worried look on his face looked at her again & said, "Is there anything else bothering you?" She said, "No, everything is fine. I've just been feeling really tired recently. Maybe I'm just working too hard. Thank you for asking. I really appreciate it!"
Jack could still tell something was wrong but he didn't know what & he was determined to figure it out. It was now time for lunch and recess to be over so Elizabeth rung the bell and told all her students to go back inside and take their seats. Before Elizabeth went back inside, Jack gave her another kiss on the cheek. Even though he wanted to give her a kiss on the lips, he didn't because he knew her students could be watching and that it wasn't the right time. Jack & Elizabeth didn't know it but her students were watching anyway. Before Jack went back to the jail he told Elizabeth to have a great rest of the day & that he would be back in a few hours to pick her up from school. She then told Jack "That sounds wonderful. Can't wait to see you soon." They then smiled at each other as they went back to work.
As Elizabeth walked back inside her students quickly turned back around to face the front of the room acting like they didn't see anything. Elizabeth asked them about it and they said "No Mrs. Thornton. We didn't see anything. We promise." After they said that, she said ok and gave them a look like she knew they were lying. After spending a few hours on their science and math lessons, she rang the bell signaling the end of the school day. They all told her goodbye and she told them goodbye too. She also told them to have a good rest of the day and that she would see them tomorrow. As all her students were leaving Jack arrived to pick her up. He asked her how the rest of her day was & she said that it was good.
After school, they went to the jail where Elizabeth stayed with him until he finished his paperwork. He soon finds out though that having Elizabeth at work can sometimes be a distraction. A few minutes later she surrenders by finishing grading papers & having tea with Abigail at the cafe. A little while later after Elizabeth finished grading papers & Jack finished the paperwork he walks over to Abigail's to pick her up. When he gets there he finds Elizabeth laying her head down on the table asleep. He walks over to her moving his hand up and down rubbing her back asking "You ready to go home love?" She responded by saying "Yes darling. I'm ready." Before they left they told Abigail goodbye and that they would see her tomorrow. She then told them to have a good night and they responded by saying thank you and for her to have a good night too!
It was now about 8:30 and Jack & Elizabeth had just finished eating dinner. Like every night after dinner, they sat down on the sofa to cuddle. As they were cuddling, Elizabeth laid her head on Jack's shoulder reading a book about something that could possibly help her struggling student. As Elizabeth read, Jack gave her a look a love and admiration for the dedication she has to her students. A few moments later, Jack stood up and held out his hand to ask Elizabeth for a dance. She of course said yes so they walked over to the Victrola to start playing a record. As they were dancing Jack wrapped his arms around Elizabeth's waist while she had her arms wrapped around his neck pulling each other closely. They talked and just enjoyed each other's company. When they finished dancing they continued gazing into each other's eyes while also giving one another Eskimo kisses. They then went back to cuddle more on the sofa, sing to each other, & say their daily prayers. As they sang Jack wrapped his arm around her and held her hand. When they finished singing, Elizabeth kept her head on Jack's shoulder and continued to hold his hand while they said their prayers. After that, they spent a few more minutes cuddling & holding each other close before deciding to head up to bed.
As they got up to go to bed, Elizabeth started to get a little dizzy like she was going to fall but Jack caught her. With a look of concern on his face he asked, "Are you alright love?" Elizabeth said, "Yes, I'm fine darling. "Thank you! I think I might've just stood up faster than I should have." As they walked upstairs Jack put his arm around her to make sure she wouldn't fall if she got dizzy again.
When they got in the bed they laid in each other's arms gazing into one another's eyes but not saying a word. As they lay in each other's arms, Jack ran his fingers through her hair with one hand while he held her hand with the other. After a few moments they leaned in to give each other a kiss before Jack said, "Goodnight honey! I love you and will see you in the morning!" Elizabeth then responded by saying "Goodnight darling! I love you too and will see you in the morning!"
The next day...
Jack got up a little early at 6:30 to make breakfast for Elizabeth before walking her to school then heading to the jail for work. About ten minutes went by before Elizabeth got up. As she was getting ready, she noticed that her clothes were continuing to get tighter than usual. She took a moment then thought to herself "Could I be? No, I can't...it's not possible. I'm just overthinking things." Elizabeth then continued getting ready before heading downstairs to have breakfast. Once she got downstairs they gave each other a good morning kiss. It was now about 7:20 and they had just finished breakfast. As Elizabeth stood up from her chair she suddenly felt dizzy & lightheaded then fainted. Jack immediately got up and rushed to her side. With very deep concern & worry in his eyes and his voice he said, "Honey, are you alright?" She didn't respond at first so Jack then said "Elizabeth?" It took her a second but she then looked at Jack and said, "I'm ok Jack. I'm sure whatever it is will go away within the next few days. Thank you for your concern though! I really appreciate it." As Jack helped her up he said, "Are you sure? You hardly ate your breakfast & I'm beginning to get really concerned about you." In response, Elizabeth said, "I'm sorry. I will be fine darling. I promise." He then looked at her smiling but still concerned as he offered to walk her to school.
It was about 7:50 when they got to the school. Like the day before Jack walked in the schoolhouse to lay Elizabeth's books on her desk. They then talked for a few minutes before it was time for school to start. As school started, Elizabeth rang the bell while all her students were arriving. Before Jack left he kissed her hand, told her to have a good day, & that he would be back at lunch to check on her. She then smiled, told him ok, to have a good day, and that she would see him then.
When Jack left the school he began heading to the jail before deciding to go talk to Abigail about Elizabeth. When Jack walked in Abigail saw him, walked over to give him a hug, and then said, "Good morning Jack! How are you?" He responded by saying "I'm fine, thank you Abigail!" She could tell he really wasn't so she said, "Jack, I know that's not true. Something is wrong and I can tell." Jack responded by saying, "Ok, something is wrong. May I talk to you?" Abigail said, "Yes, of course you can." Since they wanted to talk about this privately and not in front of guests, they went to sit on the sofa. As Jack & Abigail sat on the sofa, he said, "Have you noticed anything different about Elizabeth? She hasn't been herself lately and I'm very concerned & worried about her." Abigail then said that she's noticed Elizabeth does seem like she's been very tired recently. She also said that she's noticed there are times when Elizabeth is happy one moment and crying the next for no apparent reason. Jack then asked her, "Do you know what could be wrong?" She finished by telling Jack no but that she's worried about her too and that she hopes Elizabeth will start acting like herself again soon. Jack then told Abigail he had to go. After that he told her thank you for the talk, to have a great afternoon, and that he will let her know if he needs her. Abigail responded by saying "Of course Jack...anytime. And yes, please let me know if you need anything. Have a great afternoon!"
When Jack got to the jail he sat down at his desk to get some work done. He tried to get some paperwork done but he couldn't focus because his mind kept going back to his beautiful wife. He knew that there was something wrong with her but he still couldn't figure out what. He noticed she had been so moody lately crying at the mere mention of something. He also heard her trying not to get sick when certain foods were cooking. He knew that there was something wrong with her but he still couldn't figure out what.
Meanwhile, back at school Elizabeth was teaching one of her lessons when she suddenly started feeling dizzy for a second. Her students noticed and asked, "Are you ok Mrs. Thornton?" She responded by saying "Yes, children. I'm fine. Thank you! I've just been feeling really tired recently."
A few hours went by and it was finally time for lunch & recess. When Jack got there to check on her they talked about how their day was going and just enjoyed each other's company. Elizabeth was telling him how she has almost found a way to help her struggling student and Jack responded by saying "That's wonderful. I'm so proud of you honey!" She told him "Thank you darling! That means a lot!"
About 30 minutes went by and it was time for lunch and recess to be over so they could finish the rest of their lessons for the day. Before Jack left, he told her that he had to do his afternoon rounds & finish some paper work and because of this he wouldn't be able to pick her up after school. He said how sorry he was and that he would just meet at the café when he finished. As they were both going back to work they said they love each other and told each other to have a great afternoon!
It seemed like the rest of the school day drug on. Elizabeth hadn't been feeling well and was going to talk to Abigail after school was out. She just didn't seem to have the energy to get through the day. When it was time Elizabeth lovingly rang the cowbell that Jack had given her. As all her students were leaving they told her how they hope she feels better soon. She said thank you and also told them to have a great weekend and that she'd see them Monday.
On the way to the cafe, she thought of all the wonderful things Jack had done and continued doing for her. She knew how blessed she was to have such a caring, loving husband. Elizabeth soon saw the cafe ahead then quickened her stride anxious to talk to Abigail. Since she had felt bad the last few weeks she decided it was time to talk to someone. She hasn't been able to eat and when she did she couldn't keep it down. After the constant bought of dizziness she had that she tried to keep from Jack she began to worry that something was seriously wrong with her.
While at the cafe she talked to Abigail about all the symptoms she was having like dizziness, fatigue, & nausea at the smell of food especially in the morning. She also told Abigail how it seemed like she was gaining wait.
As tears began to fall from Elizabeth's eyes she said that she was so worried something was seriously wrong with her. She asked Abigail if she would go with her to see Dr. Burns in Union City first thing Monday after Jack drops her off at school. Abigail responded by saying "Yes, of course I can but wouldn't you like Jack to go too?" In response, Elizabeth said yes but that she knew Jack had to work so she didn't want to inconvenience him. Abigail then looked at Elizabeth and said "Ok but you should know it wouldn't be an inconvenience for him. Jack loves you very much & would do anything for you." Elizabeth then said, "I know he does Abigail. And I love him very much too. I just feel like this is something you need to be with me for." Abigail finished by saying ok and that she also remembered she needs to get supplies for the cafe while they're there.
A few moments later, Jack arrived at the cafe after finishing all his paperwork. When he walked over to Elizabeth he held on to her shoulders and said "You ready to go honey?" She said "Yes, darling. I'm ready."
When they got home, Elizabeth started making her famous chicken fried steak. As she was cooking, Jack got up from the sofa, walked up behind Elizabeth & wrapped his arms around her waist while giving her a kiss behind her ear. After that he said, "It smells wonderful Elizabeth!" She then turned around to face Jack smiling and said, "Thank you Jack!" They then smiled at each other again before kissing passionately.
A few moments later they started smelling smoke and realized the chicken fried steak was burning. As Elizabeth started crying she said "Oh no! I burned our dinner. I'm so sorry Jack!" He looked at Elizabeth, took her hand, and said, "Awe...it's ok honey! Don't worry about it." We'll just make something else." She looked at him & smiled saying, "Ok."
Jack could tell she was still upset so he went to sit down at the kitchen table pulling her onto his lap. He said "Are you sure you're ok? You haven't been yourself lately and I'm really worried about you."
Elizabeth responded in tears saying "I really don't know what's wrong with me. On top of all the dizzy spells, fatigue, & occasional nausea, I feel like I'm gaining weight and I can't figure out why." After she said that, Jack tucked Elizabeth's hair behind her ear then held her hand saying, "We'll figure it out. Let's take the weekend to see if it gets any better and if it doesn't I promise I will take you to see Dr. Shepard first thing Tuesday. I would take you Monday but unfortunately I can't get off work that day. I'm so sorry!" Elizabeth then looked at Jack and smiled. She said "Awe...it's ok darling. I understand. Tuesday sounds good. And thank you so much for your concern. It means so much." Jack then looked at her with a sly smile saying, "Elizabeth, you know how much I love you. You are my world and I'm always going to be here to protect and take care of you. It doesn't matter how busy work gets, I'm going to make time for my beautiful wife. You are more important to me than anything else." Almost in tears again, Elizabeth said, "I do Jack! And I love you so much too."
Jack and Elizabeth then leaned their heads together & gave each other sweet Eskimo kisses before starting to make something else to eat. About and hour and a half later at 8:45 they finished dinner and were cuddling on the sofa talking, singing to each other, and saying their prayers like they do every night before they go to bed. The time was now 10 pm and they decided it was time to head upstairs and get ready for bed.
The next morning (Sunday)...
Jack had gotten up a little early to make him & Elizabeth breakfast before going to church. When Elizabeth got up and started getting ready she noticed her clothes were even tighter than the last time she checked. Even though she wanted to deny it she was almost certain she was pregnant. She told herself how she couldn't wait to see Dr. Burns in Union City with Abigail the next day to see if it was actually true.
As she walked downstairs Jack smiled and said "Good morning beautiful! How are you feeling?" Elizabeth responded by saying "Good morning handsome! I'm still not feeling great." Jack walked over to Elizabeth saying "Awe...why? What's wrong honey?" She told him that while she knows whatever he made for breakfast is good, something about the smell is just making her nauseous." After she said that he remembered all the symptoms Elizabeth told him she was having the night before and was almost certain he now knew what was wrong but he didn't want to say anything until he knew for sure. He told Elizabeth he was now more concerned than ever and that he decided he was taking her to see Dr. Burns in Union City Tuesday. He continued by saying that it'd been almost 3 weeks and he wanted just wanted to figure out what was wrong with his beautiful wife. Elizabeth told him that she wanted to know too and that she was ready to go the doctor on Tuesday.
It was now about 11 am and they had just arrived at church. As they sat in the pew listening to Pastor Frank's sermon they held hands and thought about how grateful they are to be together and living in such an amazing place like Hope Valley!
About 30 minutes later church ended. As they were walking out of the church they told Frank how much they enjoyed his sermon and how glad they are that he's their pastor. He said thank you and that he's glad he is too.
After that Jack started talking to Lee for a moment while Elizabeth talked to Francine. Elizabeth told her that Abigail asked if she could go to Union City with her early the next day to get supplies for the cafe & to take her to the doctor. She then asked Francine if she could fill in at school for her while she was in Union City. Francine responded by saying "Yes, of course. I would love to help." Elizabeth told her thank you and that she would meet her at the school at around 7:45 to go over the day's lessons. Francine said, "That sounds great! See you then!" Elizabeth finished by saying "Yes, see you then!"
When Jack & Elizabeth finished talking to Lee & Francine they decided to head to the cafe for some lunch. During lunch Elizabeth told Jack that she had agreed to go to Union City early the next day with Abigail to get supplies for the cafe. Considering how Elizabeth had been feeling the last few weeks, Jack looked at her concerned and asked "Are you sure you feel like going honey?" She said, "Yes. I'll be fine darling. I promised Abigail I would go with her and I never break a promise. We should be back around 1 pm." Jack, still concerned said, "Ok. Just be careful and take care of yourself." Elizabeth then said "I will Jack. Don't worry." Jack then smiled & finished by saying "I'll try not to."
The rest of the day went by quickly as it was now 8:45. They had just finished dinner and were now snugging on the sofa like they do every night. About an hour later they decided to head to bed. Jack then picked her up and carried her up the stairs.
The next morning...
Jack got up early again to make breakfast. As he was finishing breakfast and setting the table Elizabeth walked up behind him giving him a hug. He then turned around wrapping his arms around her waist pulling her close and saying "Good morning honey! How are you feeling today?" Elizabeth said, "I'm feeling a little better but still not great. Thanks for a asking!" They then smiled at each other before leaning in for a good morning kiss. After breakfast it was time to head to school.
When they got to the school Elizabeth went over the day's lessons with Francine and said hi to her students before heading to the cafe to meet Abigail to go to Union City for the day. When the stagecoach arrived it was about 8:20. Jack gave Abigail a hug then gave Elizabeth a hug and a kiss. After giving her a hug and a kiss he told her "I wish I could go with you. Please be careful honey!" Elizabeth told Jack "I wish you could too. And I will! Don't worry darling! I'll be back this afternoon." He then smiled, said ok, & how he couldn't wait to see her later. She then smiled and said she couldn't wait either.
As Elizabeth & Abigail went to get on the stagecoach, Jack being the gentleman that he is opened the door and helped both of them on. Right before the stagecoach left Jack looked at Abigail and said, "Take care of my girl Abigail." Abigail responded by saying, "Don't worry Jack! I will! We'll be back soon." As the stagecoach was pulling away Jack & Elizabeth smiled & mouthed the words I love you to each other.
When they arrived in Union City it was about 10 am. The first thing they did was go see Dr. Burns. When they saw him he asked Elizabeth what her symptoms were. Once she told him he gave her a few tests to see what was wrong.
After about 45 minutes of waiting Dr. Burns came back with the test results. When he came in the room he said trying to hold in his excitement "Well Elizabeth, after looking at your tests I have good news and slightly bad news. The good news is that I didn't find anything seriously wrong. The slightly bad news is that you'll be feeling bad off and on for a while but you'll be better in about 7 months." Elizabeth immediately realized what this meant so her face lit up while she said "What? I'm pregnant?" Dr. Burns then smiled and said, "Yes. You're a little over two months pregnant. Congratulations Mrs. Thornton!" He also said, "If you would like you can come back in about 2 months to find out whether it will be a boy and a girl." Elizabeth responded by saying, "Yes. I would love to know. We will be back then. Thank you and have a great day Dr. Burns!" He responded by saying, "You're welcome Mrs. Thornton! Hope you have a great day as well!"
After Dr. Burns walked out of the room Elizabeth & Abigail sat there for a moment talking before leaving to get supplies for the cafe. Abigail looked at Elizabeth and smiled saying "Congratulations Elizabeth. I'm so happy for you and Jack. I had a feeling this was coming when you told me how you were feeling but I didn't want to say anything till we were sure. You are going to make amazing parents." Elizabeth then gave Abigail a big hug, smiled, and said "Thank you Abigail! That means so much! I'm so glad you were here with me." Abigail then finished by saying "Awe...you're welcome Elizabeth. Anytime. I'm glad I was here too!"
After spending about 20 minutes getting the few supplies they needed they got a little snack at a local cafe. By the time they finished eating it was about 11:30 & time to board the stagecoach back to Hope Valley. About 30 minutes into their trip back the stagecoach broke down leaving them stranded an hour away from Hope Valley. While waiting for someone to come pick them up Elizabeth & Abigail sat down talking and enjoying each other's company. After a few hours went by it was now about 3:30 and Elizabeth & Abigail began to wonder if they would ever get back to Hope Valley.
Meanwhile, back in Hope Valley Jack had become very worried about Elizabeth & Abigail since they said they were supposed to have been back at 1. At the time, he was in the jail pacing back and forth while trying not to think the worst. He then decided to take a moment to sit down at his desk and pray that everything was ok.
After that he decided to walk around town to ask anyone if they had seen Elizabeth & Abigail. He asked Lee & Rosemary, Jesse & Clara, Faith, Carson, Molly, & Florence but unfortunately no one had seen them. Jack then went to find Frank or Bill to ask if they had seen them too. He couldn't find Bill but he found Frank. After Frank said he hadn't seen them either, Jack started panicking. He said, "It's almost 4 pm. They were supposed to be back almost 3 hours ago." Frank also began to worry. They then decided they were going to take their horses and ride out of town to try and find them.
While looking for them they ran into the stagecoach driver who just a few minutes before left the area where the stage broke down to find help. He started talking to Jack & Frank and said his stagecoach broke down just a few miles away on the way back to Hope Valley from Union City. Jack thought for a minute then asked, "Does my wife Elizabeth and our friend Abigail happen to be on that stagecoach?" The driver responded by saying "As a matter of fact they are." Jack & Frank then breathed a sigh of relief before Jack said, "That's so good to hear. We've been so worried about them." The driver then said "If you would like to see them and help take them to Hope Valley you're welcome to." They both responded by saying "Yes, of course. We would love to see them & help!"
After a short while they finally made it to where the stagecoach broke down. When Elizabeth & Abigail saw Jack & Frank they told them they were so happy to see them. After giving each other hugs Jack & Frank then asked them if they were ok. They said yes but that they were just ready to get back to Hope Valley.
A few minutes later they were on the way back to Hope Valley. Elizabeth sat behind Jack with her arms around him on Sergeant while Frank & Abigail rode together. The stagecoach driver also rode back with them carrying the supplies Elizabeth & Abigail bought in Union City. On the way back Jack could tell that Elizabeth didn't feel great so he decided to take the riding slow so she wouldn't get sick.
When they finally arrived back in Hope Valley it was about 5:30. They stopped at the cafe so the supplies could be dropped off and so Abigail could make Jack, Elizabeth, and Frank dinner.
During dinner they talked about how their day went and just enjoyed each other's company. It was about 7 when they finished dinner. Before Jack & Elizabeth left they told Abigail thank you for dinner. They also told her and Frank goodbye and to have a great rest of the evening. Abigail and Frank then said the same thing to Jack and Elizabeth. Right before they walked out of the cafe Abigail told Elizabeth with a sly smile (like she made before she got engaged to Jack) "Thanks for inviting me to go to Union City with you today. I really enjoyed your company!" Elizabeth responded with a sly smile as well and said "You're welcome Abigail. Anytime. I enjoyed your company too!"
After Jack & Elizabeth walked out Frank looked at Abigail and said, "What was that face you made about?" Abigail responded with a smile saying, "You'll find out soon Frank." Frank stayed a few more minutes before also leaving the cafe.
Before going back home, Jack & Elizabeth decided to take a long, romantic walk around the lake near the church. On their walk they held hands & Jack asked Elizabeth why she made the face she did at Abigail before leaving the cafe. Elizabeth responded with a smile saying "It's a surprise darling. I promise you'll find out very soon!" With a sly smile Jack looked at Elizabeth and said, "Ok love." Jack knew she was hiding something and he couldn't wait to find out what it was.
It was now about 8:45 and they had just returned home from dinner and their walk around the lake. When they got home they put a log in the fire and cuddled on the sofa. As they cuddled they sang to each other and said their prayers like they do every night.
After doing this Elizabeth continued sitting on his lap while he had his right arm around her waist and held her hand with his left hand. As they gazed into each other's eyes Elizabeth said "Can I ask you something darling?" Jack said "Yes, anything. What is it honey?" Elizabeth then asked him "Do you remember me telling you about a surprise I have a little while ago?" Jack said with a smile "Yes, of course I do." As Elizabeth smiled too she said, "Well I'm ready to tell you that surprise." She paused for a minute smiling and trying to hold in her excitement before saying "Jack. We're going to be parents soon. I'm pregnant." Jack smiled, pulled her close to him while holding her face, and kissed her long & passionately. With tears in his eyes he said, "I love you so much Elizabeth!" Elizabeth who also had tears in her eyes said "I love you so much too Jack!"
After they wiped away each other's tears Jack held her and she laid her head on his arms. As they cuddled on the sofa for a few more minutes all they could do was smile. Jack then picked her up gently and carried her up the stairs.
When they got upstairs Jack laid her down on the bed then leaned in close to give her a kiss on the nose. After he did that Elizabeth smiled while quickly scrunching her nose. Jack then smiled back before laying down next to Elizabeth pulling her close. They gazed into each other's eyes smiling. As Elizabeth put her hand on Jack's cheek she could feel the stubble on his face. When she did this she said, "You are so handsome my darling. You're going to make an amazing father!" Jack smiled while running his fingers through her hair saying "And you are so beautiful honey. You are going to make an amazing mother!" Elizabeth then smiled before saying "Goodnight Jack. See you in the morning!" Jack responded by saying "Goodnight Elizabeth. See you in the morning!" After saying this they pulled each other a little closer before giving one another a sweet kiss on the lips.
The next morning...
It came early for Jack & Elizabeth. They woke up at around 6:30 in each other's arms. While Jack had the day off Elizabeth unfortunately didn't. It was Tuesday, which meant it was a school day. While she loved her job and her students all she wanted to do was spend the day with Jack. Jack could tell that something was bothering her so he asked "Is everything ok honey?" She said, "Yes, everything is fine darling. Thank you! I love my students but I'm just thinking about how I would much rather spend the day with you than teaching." As she said this Jack ran his fingers through her hair smiling and saying, "Awe. Elizabeth...I wish I could spend the day with you too but I'll be here when school ends. I'm not going anywhere." Elizabeth then said, "I know you will Jack. I guess I should just continue to enjoy teaching while I still can." Jack, a little confused said "What do you mean honey?" Elizabeth responded by saying "Once our child is born I'm not going to be able to teach for a while. It breaks my heart because I love my students and will miss them very much!" Since Jack understands how much teaching means to her he says "I know you do Elizabeth. I love how dedicated you are to your students & making a difference in their lives. It's so inspiring but I don't want you to worry. God has great plans for you!" Elizabeth finished by saying "Thanks again Jack! I understand but I guess sometimes I just need a little reminder."
Jack then gave her a smile as he proceeded to pull her close for a kiss. As they kissed Elizabeth loved the feel of the stubble on Jack's face. She also thought about how lucky she is to have such an amazing man like Jack in her life. After they kissed Jack smiled & said, "How's that reminder honey?" Elizabeth responded with a smile saying, "It's great. I love you darling!" Jack smiled and said, "I love you too!"
After about 15 minutes it was 6:45 and they decided to get up and get ready before heading to Abigail's for breakfast. It was now 7:45 and they had just arrived at the school after having breakfast at Abigail's. Jack then helped carry her books inside before they walked back outside to talk for a few minutes. Those 15 minutes went by fast, as it was now 8 am. Elizabeth rang her cowbell signaling the start of school. Jack then smiled, gave her a kiss on the hand, and told her "Have a wonderful day love! I will be back at lunch to check on you and see how the day is going." Elizabeth smiled and said, "Have a wonderful day darling. Looking forward to seeing you then!"
The time was now about 9:30. Elizabeth was busy doing some research for ways to help her deaf student while her other students were working on some class work she gave them. After a few more minutes of research Elizabeth figured it out. She was so happy that she could now get to work helping her struggling student Ally. Lunch and recess came quickly as it was now about 12 pm. While waiting for Jack she talked to Ally and told her that she figured out a way to help. Elizabeth told her that they could start working together the following week. Ally was so grateful & she made it very clear that she was.
Just as Elizabeth finished talking to Ally Jack arrived and saw her talking to Ally. Elizabeth then saw Jack and went outside to join him sitting on the stairs. He asked how her day was going and she said it was going well. She also told him that she finally figured out a way to help her deaf student Ally and that they were going to start working together the following week. Jack immediately smiled and said "Elizabeth, that's great! I knew you could do it. I'm so proud of you! If you need help in any way let me know." Elizabeth then said, "I will. Thank you Jack!"
They sat there for a few more minutes before it was time for her students to head back inside for their afternoon lessons. After all her students had gone back inside and before Jack left he told Elizabeth to have a great rest of the day and that would see her after school. She told him to have a great rest of the day too and that she would see him later.
After Jack left he headed to the cafe to talk to Abigail about an important matter. While at the cafe he asked Abigail if she could help him arrange a special dinner for Elizabeth for the following day to celebrate her hard work & dedication in finding way to help her struggling student Ally. Abigail quickly responded by saying "Yes, of course I will Jack! I'd love to help! I know she'll love it!"
He stayed at the cafe talking to Abigail a few more minutes before leaving to go to the Mercantile to get a few things to make for dinner that night. Before he left he told Abigail thank you and to have a great rest of the day. Abigail finished by saying "It's my pleasure Jack! You're two of my closest friends and I'd do anything for you."
As Jack was walking out the door he smiled and said thanks again & that he would see her later. Abigail then said "See you later!" After Jack went to the Mercantile he went back home to put away all the food and relax for a little while before heading to the school to pick up Elizabeth.
It was now about 3 pm and Elizabeth had just rung the bell signaling the end of the school day. After all her students left she went back inside the school to gather her things.
Jack came in a few minutes later. As Jack walked in she smiled and said "Hi darling!" He responded by saying "Hi honey! You ready to go?" She said, "Yes. I just have to finish getting my things together." Jack then smiled and said
"Maybe I can help?" Elizabeth slightly chuckled and said, "Yes, that would be great! Thank you Jack!"
A few moments later they got all her things together and were ready to leave. Before they left Jack looked outside the window to make sure no one else was around or watching then proceeded to put his hands on her waist (like he did in the wall kiss) while giving her a kiss. After the kiss they gazed into each other's eyes smiling before leaving the school. A few hours went by and it was now 6:30. Jack had just started making dinner and Elizabeth took a few minutes to write in her journal.
She said:
Today was a wonderful day in Hope Valley! It was the first day since Jack & I found out we are going to soon & become parents. When I told Jack, we both immediately started crying happy tears and thinking about how excited we are to be starting a family. Jack is the most amazing man & will make the best father in the world for our children. While at school, I also found a way to help my deaf student Ally. I'm going to start working with her next week. Jack told me not to worry but I don't know what I'm going to do when I can no longer teach. I love my students and will miss seeing them everyday.I just need to remember to keep the faith and trust God's plan for my life. This is something else Jack told me. He never ceases to amaze me with his kindness, love, and encouragement. I love this sweet, handsome man very much and am so lucky & grateful to have him by my side. I believe dinner is almost ready so I'm going to leave it at that. Until next time.
After finishing her journal entry she left her desk and walked in the kitchen where Jack was making dinner. Elizabeth walked up behind him wrapping her arms around his waist while saying "Dinner smells delicious darling. Do you need any help?" He said "No. The spaghetti is almost ready but thank you honey!" After saying this they both smiled before Elizabeth started setting the table.
After Elizabeth set the table Jack pulled her chair out so she could sit down. After she sat down he pushed her chair back in before sitting down himself. During dinner they talked and enjoyed each other's company.
It was now about 7:30 and they had just finished dinner. Jack got up from his chair, walked over to the victrola to play a record, and then walked back over to Elizabeth holding out his hand to ask her for a dance. As they started their dance Jack held his hands on her waist while Elizabeth rested her arms on his shoulders.
During their dance they exchanged some flirty banter and just enjoyed being together more in the privacy of their own home. By the time the second song was finishing Jack took Elizabeth's hand slowly spinning her around then gently dipping her before they gazed into each other's eyes. After gazing into each other's eyes Jack leaned in close, first giving her a kiss on the cheek then giving her a longer kiss on the lips.
They then went to cuddle on the sofa for a little while. Since they hadn't taken pictures together in a while Jack decided to bring his camera with them. As Elizabeth laid her head on Jack's shoulder he put his arm around her and leaned his head on hers before taking a picture.
Elizabeth realized he took a picture then moved her head to kiss Jack on the cheek. As she did that Jack smiled into the camera while taking another picture. They then decided to take two more pictures together for the night. One regular posed photo and one funny posed photo.
After they took some pictures together Elizabeth laid her head in Jack's lap. While they talked they held each other's hand. They talked about their first child and what they imagine he or she will look like. Elizabeth said, "If he's anything like you he will be grow up to be very handsome and kind just like his father. Jack smiled & started tearing up before saying "Well, if she's anything like you she will grow up to be very beautiful and sweet just like her mother." As he said this he gazed into her eyes while gently rubbing her fingers with his thumb and running his other hand through her hair.
Elizabeth smiled & started tearing up too before saying, "Awe...Jack. I love you!" Jack responded with another smile saying "I love you too Elizabeth...to infinity and beyond."
They also talked about some possible names for their child. Their initial list of names for a girl included Abigail, Charlotte, and Isabella or Bella while the initial list of names for a boy included Bill, William, and Tom. After they sang to each other and said their prayers it was about 9:45 so they decided to head upstairs to bed. As they walked up the stairs they held hands with their fingers intertwined.
