"Wait - " The word slipped out of her mouth like a waterfall, pushing past her lips before she could stop it or control her body as she grabbed his wrist. He halted, turning to look at her with those determined brown eyes she craved to have on her for an eternity, ones that she may never see again.
She shook her head at her thoughts, trying to dislodge them as she shifted her gaze downwards, to his dirt-encrusted fingers, his nails bitten down to the plate. "Angel?" He breathed out her name, like the mere thought her made him breathless.
In her mind, she scoffed, shaking her head once more before looking up at him again, this time focusing her vision on the bridge of his nose, where acne started to pop up. "... You make me really nervous," she admitted in a low tone so that the people huddled around them (and maybe even Dipper himself) couldn't hear her, "but the thought of you dying or getting hurt makes me shiver."
For a few beats, he didn't say anything, just silently watching her and her heart sped in her chest, pounding like a hummingbird trying to get out of its cage. Then, his hand wiggled out of her grip, sliding lower till it was wrapped around hers, a blanket. "I'll stay safe," he promised, voice cracking as she finally shifted her eyes to look at his own, a combination of relief and hope bright in them.
"You better," her lips quirked up, "I don't want to have to confess my feelings to a corpse."
