AN: I'm really glad I managed to get this to you despite the millions of things I have going on. It's super long, and I hope enjoyable.
Thanks to my beta who goes above and beyond and stays up way later than she wants to get this stuff done.
Brittany could barely contain her laughter as she listened to Santana give baby raspberry a pep talk. She talked about giving face and smizing, honestly Santana watched way too much Top Model. But she was hilarious. "So tomorrow's appointment is going to be like a full check up." Santana told Britt. "Like…you know…"
"It's a gynecological appointment baby. I've been doing these for several years now."
"Right. No. Gynecologists. Totally cool." She leaned back down to kiss Brittany's naked flat stomach. "Baby raspberry. I hope we get to see you. Looking like a tadpole." Brittany starts giggling again. Santana kisses her way up Brittany's stomach and onto her chest. "And you two. You need to slow down on the over sensitivity and getting sore. I would like to continue to play with you for several months until you belong to the baby." She looked up into Brittany's eyes and slowly leaned down kissing one of her nipples, taking it into her mouth and sucking gently. "Too much?" She asked, knowing by the look on Brittany's face that it wasn't.
"Perfect." She closes her eyes as Santana leans down to suck on her other nipple. Santana knows they don't have a lot of time before they'll be late to this appointment. Brittany could tell what Santana was thinking. "I'm already wet." Brittany bucked her hips up, her center rubbing onto Santana's stomach. Santana leaned up capturing Brittany's lips with her own. She bucked her hips a few times into Brittany's, letting the underside of her dick run along Brittany's folds, coating her, and making her harder. Then she lined herself up, and thrust in deeply. Brittany's leg wrapped around her hip, immediately pulling them closer.
"So fucking beautiful." Santana murmured as she left hot kisses up and down the column of Brittany's neck.
"Harder baby." Brittany choked out, already feeling herself close. Santana was at the perfect angle and kept hitting all of her spots on every stroke. When she picked up the pace, Brittany gritted her teeth trying to make it last just a little longer.
Santana nudged Brittany's jaw with her nose to get her to look at her. Their eyes locked as Santana continued to pump herself into Brittany's hot center. Brittany reached up and cupped Santana's full breast, tugging on her nipple. Santana pressed their foreheads together, Brittany's hands bringing her closer to coming. She pulled back to kiss Brittany as she felt her start shaking underneath her. "Come for me Britt." She husked into her ear. When she felt Brittany's muscles clamping around her she couldn't hold back any longer. She pressed herself into Brittany as deep as she could as she came. Brittany leaned up, kissing Santana down from her orgasm. Santana rolled to the side, careful not to lay on top of Brittany to hard, and they held each other for a few minutes.
"That was probably not the best idea before we go to the doctors." Brittany laughed. Santana looked up at her mortified.
"Babe! The doctor's going to know! It's not funny." Brittany could hardly stop laughing.
"I think she's going to figure out we have sex, love. I'll shower fast. It will be ok."
When they arrived at the doctor's office, Brittany was excited. Which was a step up from what she usually felt when she was at the doctors. She thought it might have something to do with the raspberry sized baby tucked inside of her, and her beautiful fiancé who was holding tight to her hand. "Hello. My name is Brittany Pierce and I have an appointment with Dr. Kranart." She told the receptionist when they got to the desk.
"Ok. Fill out these forms and a nurse will come take you back to a room."
She handed Brittany a clipboard and a pen and they went to sit down. Brittany started filling out all of the information when she got to the family history section. She read through, but didn't know any of the answers. "San, I don't know any of these things." She whispered.
"It's ok baby." Santana kissed her cheek. "We'll just explain to the doctor. Let me fill out my section." Santana took the clipboard and smiled where she saw Brittany had crossed out father and put mother on the section for her to fill out. She managed to fill out most of it on her own with only one phone call to her mother. Brittany put her head on her shoulder as they waited for the nurse to call for them.
When she finally called Brittany's name, they both jumped up. They followed her back to the room and Brittany sat on the bed, where the nurse had indicated for her to sit. "What date did you ladies inseminate?" Brittany looks confused but Santana's face falls. She knew they would have to go through this.
"She didn't. I… have a penis. Intersex. I guess." She mumbles. The nurse just nods in understanding.
"Ok. Brittany why don't you take off your clothes and put that gown on. The doctor will see you in a few minutes to get started." Brittany thanks her and she walks out of the room. Before she puts the gown on she kneels in front of Santana.
"Baby. How are you feeling?"
"Embarrassed I guess. I hate having to explain it."
"But you didn't have to explain it, you just had to tell her that you got me pregnant, that's all. She understood. You're not the only person like this baby. I'm sure this isn't the first time they've had a situation like ours. Right?"
"You're probably right." Santana admits. Brittany leans up and kisses her.
"So smile. You're about to meet your baby." She said as she pulled her shirt off. Before she had a chance to put the gown back on, Santana leaned forward and pressed another kiss on her belly.
"Can't wait."
Brittany was dressed in the crinkly paper gown and sitting on the table trying to kick Santana, who was just out of reach, when the doctor came in. "Hey Mommy's." She smiled to them. She took Brittany's vitals and made small talk asking about sleeping and morning sickness. To Santana's relief, her anatomy didn't come up again at all.
The doctor looks at the chart again. "Brittany you didn't fill out your family history."
"I don't know it." She said shyly. "I'm not in contact with my parents. I'm sorry."
"It's ok. We can figure some of this stuff out together." She asked Brittany a series of questions that helped her figure out the answers to some of the questions on the paper. "You don't seem to be in any sort of high risk category, so not knowing everything is going to be just fine. Don't worry." Brittany smiled a tight smile at her. Santana could tell her nerves were starting to catch up with her. She stood up from her seat and moved to stand next to Brittany. She slid her hand into the back of her gown so she could press it into the skin on her back, hoping to help calm her again.
"See babe, it's going to be fine." Brittany nodded and leaned into the touch feeling a little better. The doctor proceeded with the rest of the exam. Santana loved how calm and light the doctor kept things, giving them advice and telling them that they did well managing Brittany's morning sickness. After the initial exam was over and the doctor said that everything looks really good, she let Brittany put her underwear on and had her lay back on the table while she rolled the ultrasound machine over.
"Ready Mommy's? The gel is going to be a little cold." Brittany nodded, holding up the gown. Dr. Kranart squirted some gel onto her stomach before moving the wand over her lower stomach. "Ok, let's take a look." A few seconds later, "And here we are." Santana gripped Brittany's hand tighter as she looked at the screen. She saw a black blob with a white tadpole looking thing.
She pointed at the screen. "There?"
"Mhmm." The doctor agreed.
"That's our baby." Santana whispered to Brittany, trying to keep the tears back that were threatening to fall. "Is everything ok?" She asks. Brittany squeezes her hand.
"Everything looks perfect so far. I know you can't see much but would you like me to print out pictures for you?"
"Yes please." Brittany responds, as she watches Santana watch the screen.
"Will we be able to see the baby on the screen every time?"
"It's not medically necessary but there's certainly no reason why we can't. Let me also get you a pamphlet on 4D imaging on your way out." She smiles gently at them and leaves the room to print the pictures.
"We saw our baby." Santana whispers to Brittany, barely able to contain her excitement.
"We did." They kiss briefly before the fear of getting caught by the doctor makes Santana pull away and start gently wiping off Brittany's belly. When the doctor comes back she explains that they should make an appointment for next month and that it's possible they will hear the heartbeat. Brittany can't help but think about how Santana will react when they get to hear it, the thought is almost as exciting as getting to hear the heartbeat itself. Almost.
The next four weeks are hard on them though. Their schedules just don't seem to match up, meaning they're unable to spend much time together. Thankfully at week twelve Brittany's morning sickness starts to ease up a little. Either that or she's learned the exact formula to keep herself from feeling sick all day. She spends a lot of time with Puck, who is no Santana, but she enjoys being around him. She's able to talk openly, hold her stomach, and not worry in general about giving anything away. Puck has also clearly been doing his own research on being pregnant. Which is endearing as well as hilarious when he asks Brittany about her prenatal vitamins and whether or not she thinks she's getting enough calcium.
She thinks maybe it has something to do with not getting sick often, and in the past always managing to recover quickly, but she's surprised at how tired she's been. She expected it, because she read that she would have to slow down, but it's earlier than she planned. Dancing all day is getting to be impossible, and she feels like she's never sleeping or sitting enough. But this is not something she's willing to push through, not this time.
There was still a few weeks left until she had planned to tell her professors, but plans change. She schedules meetings with each of her professors and is lucky enough to manage them pretty much back to back. She prefers it this way so nobody finds out from someone who isn't her. Before her first meeting, which she feels a little unnecessarily nervous about, she gets a picture message from Santana of her making a kissy face and saying that she loves her. While it's not near as good as having the real thing there, it does make her smile.
The first three appointments go really well. Her professors congratulated her. Even though they looked confused because they knew she had been dating a girl, they were polite. Brittany had tried to schedule the meeting she was most nervous about first, but it had worked out the complete opposite. So here she was, wringing her hands, trying to calm her nerves before she went in. She had heard from this professor so many times about not throwing your career away for anything. She really didn't want this conversation to go that direction. She pressed her hand into her belly and thought about Santana, took a deep breath, and knocked on the door.
"Come in." She heard her professor call. She pushed the door open and walked in, trying not to look as nervous as she still felt. "Hello dear. What can I do for you?" Brittany sat down and took another calming breath.
"I just wanted to let you know that I think I'm going to need to slow down a little." Her professor looked at her with a confused expression. "Have things been particularly bad? Are you falling behind in your other classes?"
"No. It's not that. It's" yet another deep breath. "I'm pregnant."
"When will you be getting it taken care of?" Her professor cut her off.
"What? I-I am…what do you mean?"
"The abortion Brittany. Sooner will be much easier on your body, and your mind really." This woman sounded so matter of fact about the idea that she would willingly get rid of her baby like that. She understood, in theory, why someone would get one, and that would be an ok choice for someone to make. But this wasn't that kind of situation. She wanted this. She was happy.
"No. I'm not…we're not…" The woman in front of her sighed heavily.
"You're making a huge mistake Brittany. You have your entire life to be a mother. Someday, when your career slows and that's what you want, fine. You can't dance forever, and you're going to throw several years, if not your entire career away now?
"I'm not throwing anything away." She hated how her voice cracked. Her professor shook her head.
"You're naïve. Tell me Brittany, you're going to spend nine months pregnant and not dancing, or at least not to your potential as I know it to be. And then how long do you think it's going to take you to get your tight little body back? If you ever can. Pregnancy could ruin you. Are you willing to risk everything over this?"
Brittany at this point couldn't even begin to hold back her tears. It wasn't for lack of conviction, or some sudden confusion over whether or not this baby would be worth it. It was that this woman she admired was saying these words about this little thing inside of her that already meant so much. She was making it sound like the life and family she was building with Santana meant nothing.
"I know it's a hard decision to make Brittany…" her professor started.
"No. The decision is made. I just came to tell you that I wasn't going to be pushing as hard as I normally do, and that this was the reason." She wiped away the tears and tried to appear strong but she could feel her anxiety rising the longer she sat in front of this woman.
Her professor shook her head sadly. "Ok. Thank you." Brittany nodded, feeling the tears threatening to escape. Before she made it out of the office her professor grabbed her arm. "Consider your options Brittany. Don't throw your life away." Brittany nodded because the only thing she wanted was to get out of there.
She walks out of the office and quickly makes her way to the front of the building where she was supposed to meet Puck. The tears are flowing at a rapid rate now and her chest is heaving. All she wants is Santana right now and she can't have her. Plus she's just been so tired. She keeps having these crazy dreams that something is wrong with Santana or the baby so she's not sleeping enough. She spots Puck leaning against his car talking on the phone with someone. She ducks her head and continues towards him.
Puck laughs at something Santana says as he waves at Brittany just before she ducks her head. "I see your baby mama coming."
"Good. Put her on the phone when she gets over."
"What? You don't want to talk to me?" He laughs.
"Not when she's an option." Puck registers her words but also notices, as Brittany gets closer, that she's crying.
"Hold up San, she looks upset." He can hear her starting to get worried and ask what's wrong as he lowers the phone and puts an arm around Brittany's shoulders pulling her into him.
"What's wrong B?" She just shakes her head. "San's on the phone, why don't you talk to her?" He holds up the phone and Brittany takes it pressing it to her ear.
"Puck you fucking dick tell me what's wrong right now!" She's yelling.
"San?" Brittany whimpers into the phone.
"Baby? Are you ok? Is everything ok?" She breathes out sounding relieved and somehow anxious at the same time.
"I'm ok." She chokes out.
"What's wrong sweetie? You're scaring me." Brittany starts crying harder. All she wants is to be with Santana right now.
"My professor kept telling me I should have an abortion." She cries. The effort to get the words out causing her to hiccup. "And I just need you and I'm so tired and I can't stop crying." While she knows what her professor said truly upset her, Brittany can't help but think it's a lot of things build up that's keeping her so upset. "I want to come home for a little while. I need you."
Santana swallowed back her disgust at Brittany's professor in an effort to make her fiancé feel better. "Ok baby. Shhhhh. It's going to be ok. Can you put Puck on the phone for just one second?" Brittany nodded even though Santana couldn't see her and handed the phone to Puck.
"Yo." He said as soon as he got the phone.
"I'm going to come get her. I don't want her driving when she's this upset."
"Yeah and she's been really tired."
"I hate that I'm not there Puck."
"I know S. Hey, I've been meaning to get out of town for a bit. So I will just drop her off to you. Ok?
"Thanks man. Can I talk to her again for a second?"
"No problem. See you soon." He hands Brittany back the phone and squeezes her shoulder before picking up her bag and putting it in the back seat.
"Baby?" Santana asks gently.
"I'm here." Santana's glad to hear that she sounds slightly better.
"Puck is going to bring you into the city ok? Then we can talk or sleep-"
"Cuddle." Santana smiles at the pout she hears in Brittany's voice.
"Definitely cuddle. I'm going to go shopping before you get here. Anything you want in particular? Ice cream?"
"Just you. I'm sorry I was so upset. I probably scared you." Just knowing she wasn't going to go to bed without Santana again tonight was making her feel better.
"You have every right to be upset. I hate that I'm not there to hug you and hold your hand through that kind of stuff."
"Me too. I'm going to go get some stuff from my apartment. I will see you soon."
"Ok. I love you baby."
"Love you too San." She hung up the phone and wiped her face again.
"Come here kid." Puck said as he pulled her into a hug. "I can slash your prof's tires if you want?" He says very seriously.
"No." She just laughs, hitting him in the chest gently. "Thank you for driving me. I'm really not up for it right now."
"I can tell you're tired. Plus I really have been meaning to get out of town. Maybe I will stop in and see Sam and 'Cedes." Brittany nods as she gets in the car, her mind back on seeing Santana.
The drive felt like it took forever even though it took no longer than normal. She played with the strings on her sweat pants trying to stay awake even though she knew sleeping would be easier tonight, being with Santana, anyway. She breathed a sigh of relief as they turned onto the street. When they pulled up in front of the apartment she hugged Puck, rushing their goodby before quickly going inside and heading up to their apartment.
The door opened before she could even get her keys out and before she knew it she's wrapped up in Santana's arms. "I needed this." Brittany whispers as she tucks her face into Santana's neck.
"I saw Puck pull up. I was watching for you." Santana snuck her hand up the back of Brittany's hoodie and pressed her hand into the warm skin at the small of her back. She breathed in the smell of her fiancé and she could feel herself calming. She was always on edge when Brittany wasn't within arms reach.
They finally separated as Santana pulled Brittany inside. Bat immediately started whining and rubbing himself all over Brittany as he always does after Brittany has been away for a while. She knelt down to cuddle him for a second while Santana put her stuff away. When she came back Bat was draped across Brittany's lap getting belly rubs.
"You're getting too big for that Bat." Santana said affectionately as she nudged Bat with her feet.
"He is getting big. I think he's going to be huge." She gently pushed Bat up before reaching up for Santana to help her stand up.
"Are you hungry? Thirsty?"
"No. Can we just go cuddle on the couch?" Without answering Santana takes Brittany's hand and pulls her to the couch. She grabs the blanket that was laying there so she can cover them up with it, and sits back against the arm waiting for Brittany to lay between her legs. Brittany strips off her boots, socks, and sweatpants before she cuddles into Santana's chest, finally smiling as she turns and presses their lips together.
"Want to tell me what happened?" Santana feels more than sees Brittany nod her head.
"The first couple of professors were really nice. They said congratulations and everything. Told me to take it as easy as I needed. All my dance credits are independent studies anyway. But you know how the head of the department is really intense?"
"Mhmm." Santana mumbles as she presses sweet kisses to the back of Brittany's neck, trying to keep her from getting too upset again. Plus it helped keep herself calm because she knew what Brittany was about to tell her was bound to upset her too.
"Well I went in and just told her. The first thing she asked was when I was going to take care of it." She felt Santana tense behind her as her hand moved to press into Brittany's stomach protectively. "At first I was confused because I am taking care of it. That's why I came in. But then I figured out what she meant." Brittany said sadly, stroking Santana's hand. "And then she just kept telling me to get an abortion and not to ruin my life." She felt Santana's arms tighten around her even more and knew that she was getting upset. "But I don't feel like that at all. I feel like I'm starting my life. Like this is the best thing that's ever happened to me other than meeting you."
She turned around and laid against Santana, her eyes shiny blue, and Santana couldn't stop herself from leaning in and kissing Brittany. "You both are the best things that have ever happened to me too." Santana spoke sweetly. They kissed again before Brittany cuddled into Santana's chest and closed her eyes. Finally feeling less on edge.
"I shouldn't have gotten so upset.. It's just that on top of crazy pregnancy hormones and not sleeping enough, it was just too much."
"You had every right to be upset. Even if, in some universe, you had wanted to get an abortion, that would have been between us. It's not her place to bring that up." Brittany nodded again and nuzzled her face into Santana's chest.
They lay there in a comfortable silence. Santana running her fingers under Brittany's sweatshirt, over her back. She kept going higher until she should have hit Brittany's bra band. She must not be wearing one, Santana thought. Which naturally lead to her thinking about Brittany's boobs. Distracted, her hand kept stroking lower and lower until she was dragging her fingers across Brittany's butt, her thoughts playing out in her mind.
Brittany was enjoying Santana's stroking when she felt Santana's penis twitch slightly against her stomach. "What are you thinking about baby?" She asked innocently. Already turned on from Santana's fingers on her sensitive skin she pushed herself up on all fours hovering over her.
"Oh…I'm sorry Britt. I know you're tired. It's nothing." She tried tugging Brittany back onto her chest. Brittany took Santana's hand, moving her panties aside and pressing Santana's hand against her wet center.
"Do I feel tired?" Brittany asked seductively. She pressed herself into Santana's clothed dick, grinding against her. She reached up and pulled her hoodie off revealing, as Santana suspected, nothing underneath.
"Babe." Santana moaned, holding onto Brittany's hips, guiding her grinding. Brittany reached down and tugged Santana's shirt indicating for her to sit up. She then pulled her shirt off and made quick work of her bra. Brittany moaned when Santana's breasts were revealed, her hands automatically cupping their warm heavy weight in her hands. Her thumbs gently flicking over her nipples. She kissed Santana's slightly parted lips gently.
Santana pouted as all of a sudden Brittany's weight was gone from her lap and her hands gone from her chest. But as she opened her eyes Brittany stripped her panties off. She moaned seeing how wet Brittany's center was. Brittany however was on a mission to get Santana naked, and fast. She grabbed the waistband of her sweat pants and boxers at the same time and pulled them off. Santana's dick was hard and the head was already leaking precum.
Brittany straddled Santana's lap again, grinding herself against Santana, letting her clit bump the head at every pass. "Baby, fuck me please." Santana panted, unsure of how long she was going to last. Brittany teased her for just a few more seconds before she reached between their bodies and guided Santana into her. They both moaned as Brittany splayed her hands out on Santana's stomach for leverage.
"Feel so full." Brittany grunted pushing her pelvis down and taking Santana as deep as she could. Santana kept her hands on Brittany's hips and used the other to play gently with her clit.
"You feel so good Britt." Santana husked. After a few seconds Brittany started to slowly pull up before sinking back down, she continued to repeat the motion, moving faster. Santana thrusted up into her as much as she could, but Brittany was controlling their movements. Achingly slow, she would pull up until Santana was just barely inside of her, and slide back down just as slowly. It takes only a few of these strokes before Brittany starts to pick up the speed. Santana knows she isn't going to last long so she starts rubbing Brittany's clit faster.
Brittany's rhythm falters a little as she feels herself getting closer to her orgasm. She feels Santana grip her hip tighter and watches her face scrunch up. She leans down, pressing their chests together. "Let go baby. I've got you." And the moment felt so gentle compared to how quickly everything had built up. She sank down, so that Santana was buried as deep as she could be when she felt Santana explode inside of her. She moaned deeply against Santana's lips. She felt the fingers on her clit slow and then speed up again as Santana's orgasm subsided. Brittany rocked herself into Santana, still hard inside of her, and came only moments after.
She pressed their foreheads together as the both caught their breath, Santana ran her fingers up and down Brittany's back. Eventually their breathing calmed and Santana laughed lightly. "What?" Brittany smiled, kissing her.
"We're going to make a mess when we try to get up."
Brittany laughed. "Why don't we just lay here for a few seconds and see if we can avoid some of that." Santana nodded and pulled Brittany tight against her chest.
After about twenty minutes of almost falling asleep, they decide they need to shower and they need to eat. Some fancy maneuvering (which made Santana laugh hysterically) prevented any mess to the couch. Santana was gently massaging shampoo into Brittany's hair when a thought occurred to her. "Are you going back to school before Friday?"
"I don't think so. I think if I email my professors and tell them I had an emergency that I'll be ok. Midterms are all done, I just need to work on a paper for next week." Santana was hesitant about celebrating. She knows how difficult class work was for Brittany but selfishly she desperately just wanted her here. She chose to do a little happy dance instead of bringing that up. She probably wouldn't be able to convince Brittany to go back anyway.
"So you'll be here until our next appointment?" Brittany turns around in her arms.
"Yep. But then I have to go back or I will never catch up." She pouts at the thought.
Santana gently hooks her finger under Brittany's chin and pulls her in for a kiss. "Don't think about that right now. We have days to be together except when I'm at work. You should come to a rehearsal if you're feeling up to it. I think you'd like what we're working on."
"I definitely will." She slaps Santana's butt playfully. "Now rinse my hair I'm hungry."
"Ok princess. You're ridiculous." She laughs, but of course starts rinsing Brittany's hair for her.
The rest of the week goes by fairly quickly. Brittany can't help thinking about the fact that being with Santana right now is not a permanent thing, yet it is exactly what she needed. Not sleeping alone has meant that she's gotten more sleep, and when she does wake up, Santana is right there, holding her tight.
Santana hates that Brittany will be leaving too. Everything feels better when she's around. Their house feels like a home. She's calmer and less on edge all the time. Bat even behaves better around Brittany. Their time is spent taking him to the park, shopping, and just enjoying the weather that is starting to get a little bit nicer.
Friday morning comes and they both wake up earlier than usual. "Nervous?" Brittany asks, her voice rough with sleep.
"Nope. Excited." Santana smiles, kissing her collar bone. "We shouldn't eat much for breakfast, we're going to lunch with my parents after the appointment."
"I remember. And then your mom and I are going shopping while you go to rehearsal."
"I don't envy you."
"Well I like it. I think we're going to get a few maternity things. I'll probably be able to wear sundresses through most of the big belly part of things. But it will be good to have a few other options."
"No big baby things without me there though right? We agreed we would decorate together."
"Nope. Not without you." Brittany rolls on top of her and snuggles into Santana's neck. Santana tightens her arms around Brittany's naked body. "Fruit."
"What?" Santana laughs at Brittany's random thought.
"I want some. For breakfast."
"Is this a craving?!" Santana asks excitedly. Brittany thinks about it for a second.
"I don't know. Maybe? It's not weird though. It doesn't count until it's weird."
By time they get to the appointment Santana has managed to make herself nervous. The entire way to the doctors office, Brittany listened to songs that she was thinking about choreographing for the final dance show. Which meant that Santana had too much time to think. The first trimester is the most dangerous. It isn't out of the question that they could get there and there would be no heartbeat. She's starting to panic but doesn't want to freak Brittany out.
"I don't know what you're freaking out about baby but please try to calm down. There's no point in worrying, we're going to see if everything is ok so soon." She says almost off handedly.
"Am I that obvious?" Brittany nods but kisses her gently as they approach the office
"To me anyway." They continue walking, Brittany putting the headphones away so that she can distract Santana from being nervous.
"Things feel ok right?"
"You ask me that one hundred and fifty times a day baby. I promise, the second something felt not ok, I would let you know. I've even been less sick lately which is awesome."
"It is. I felt so guilty knowing you were sick all the time."
"Why would you feel guilty? It's not like you…" Brittany laughed at herself. "Well I guess it is kind of your fault."
"Our fault."
"Ours." Brittany leaned in and kissed Santana again as she pressed the button for the elevator that would take them to the waiting room. Once they got signed in they only had to wait a few minutes before being called back into their room. Brittany had only just sat on the table when the doctor came in.
"Hello mommies. How are you feeling Brittany?"
"Good. Less sick in the morning. But definitely more tired."
"Your body is working really hard, even when you're sleeping. So that's understandable. Sometimes people with high activity levels feel it a little more because you're not used to that kind of drain." Brittany nods before voluntarily lifting up her shirt. As the doctor sits down. "Not just yet. Still a few more questions. But I can see you aren't showing yet which was one of them." She writes something down.
"Is that normal?" Santana asks nervously.
"Completely. Especially since this is your first pregnancy, and she is so fit."
"Do you know when she might start to show?" She continues her questions hopefully.
"It could be as late as sixteen weeks. But it would be unusual if she wasn't showing at least a little by then. Not bad, just unusual." She is quick to correct herself, knowing how scared Santana gets so easily. Brittany smiles thankfully in her direction.
"So the sickness is better, and you're keeping up with your vitamins."
"Definitely. But I've been having these crazy dreams. Really scary ones."
"Also normal. Santana you're probably also having them, or will start soon. It's just something a woman's brain does. Kind of conditioning you to be hyper aware of your baby, and your partners safety. It should go away, or lessen after the baby is born. But it might not." More nodding. "Any other questions before we get started?"
"We won't be able to tell what gender it is yet will we?" Santana asks, knowing the answer is probably no.
"No we won't. We could, if you wanted to. It would involve a vaginal ultra sound and is sometimes a little uncomfortable, but is more detailed It's just not something we usually do unless something looks out of place or we are nervous about something."
Brittany had read about vaginal ultrasounds and wasn't very interested but if Santana wanted it she would do it. Before she had time to even think about it Santana was already voicing her opinion. "No. I don't want anything to make Britt uncomfortable. I was just curious. I can wait." Brittany squeezed her hand in a silent thanks.
"Yeah, I think I'm ok to wait."
"Good. More anticipation means more excitement. Although I can tell how excited you two are already. Ok. Are we ready? Go ahead and pull your shirt back up Brittany. Same drill as last time, it's going to be cold."
Santana squeezes her hand tighter as the grey fuzzy images start to appear on the monitor. "Is that it?"
"No those are organs." The doctor laughs. She centers the baby on the screen. "That's it." But she didn't even need to say it out loud. They could tell. There on the screen definitely looked much more like a baby then the last time they had been here.
"It's beautiful." Santana whispered. Brittany nods while wiping a tear away from her eye.
"You haven't even heard the best part yet." The doctor says affectionately as she watches the two fall even more in love with the unborn baby. She switches the volume on and rolls the wand over Brittany's stomach a little more before a fast little beating could be heard throughout the room.
"That's it? That's the heartbeat?" Santana squeaks out.
"That's it."
"Is it supposed to be that fast?" Brittany asks.
"It sounds absolutely perfect." The doctor says confidently.
"It is perfect." Santana affirms, tears running freely down her face.
"I think it's sucking it's thumb. Can you tell?" The doctor points to the screen where the tiny shape of a baby hand up by the head can be seen. Both mothers nod. The doctor types a few things into the computer and "Hi mommies!" Pops up in white text by the baby's face and they both laugh. "Everything looks and sounds completely normal. The baby already looks to be in the upper percentile of growth. Might be a big one. It's really too early to tell though. I can make a DVD this time if you'd like? Along with some pictures. You'll be able to hear the heartbeat anytime you would like."
"Yes please!" Santana responds enthusiastically.
"Ok. Let me go pick them up in the other room." She hands Santana a cloth. "Go ahead and clean her up." Santana nods and stands up as the doctor leaves.
"Everything is perfectly fine." Brittany smiles up at Santana who looks so much calmer. She reaches up and pulls her down by the shirt for a kiss.
"I love you so much. Both of you." Santana whispers against her lips. They pull apart just as the doctor walks back in and Santana pretends that she had been wiping Brittany's stomach off but one quirk of the doctor's eyebrow tells them that she was fully aware of what they had been doing.
"I will see you again in a month ok? Schedule it out front. And we should be able to tell the gender at that appointment." They both nodded excitedly as Brittany got up and pulled her shirt down and pulled her sweater back on. They scheduled their next appointment before excitedly heading out into the city.
"That was amazing." Santana spoke reverently after they had hailed a cab. "I can't even believe it."
"Believe it." She grabbed Santana's hand and presses it into her lower stomach. "We did this."
"We did." She leans over and kisses her fiancé.
They had barely gotten out of the cab when her mother is already hugging her and Brittany is wrapped up in her father's arms. They switched so everyone got to hug everyone before her father ushered them into the restaurant. "We have reservations! They're going to give our table away."
As soon as they were settled Maribel finally broke. "Don't make me beg please I know you have pictures." Santana smiled and pulled the envelope out and handed one to her mother and one to her father.
"Oh mija." He breathed as he looked at the picture of his grandchild. "Beautiful."
"The doctor said it was already in the upper percentile for size." Brittany said proudly.
"It's a boy." Maribel stated almost instantly.
"What? Mami there's no way you can know that."
"It's going to be one of those big Lopez boys I can tell by the head. All of my boys were big headed."
"Are you saying my child has a big head?" Santana replied. Maribel just flipped the picture over to show her and raised an eyebrow.
"It looks perfect mija." He patted Brittany's hand.
The waiter showed up just then to take their orders. As soon as he left Santana remembered the DVD. "Too bad we don't have a laptop here. I have a DVD but I'll just bring it over sometime next week."
"What? A DVD?" Maribel asked excitedly.
"You can hear the heartbeat and everything." Santana had no idea that would prompt her mother to stand up and yell over the entire restaurant.
"This is an emergency! Does anyone have a laptop! My daughter has a sonogram DVD! There's a heartbeat!" Santana just put her head down on the table and refused to look up. Brittany laughed, stroking her back as she watched a scared looking kid about their age nervously handed a very excited Maribel his laptop. She picked up the DVD and handed it to him. "I don't know how to work this."
Santana looked up just in time to see several older women gathering around. "Oh my God it's getting worse."
"Mija be patient with her this is her first grand baby." Brittany just kept laughing and rubbing Santana's back. But as soon as the quick beating of their baby's heart started playing over the speakers her head perked up and she couldn't stop the smile. All of the ladies cooed when the "Hi Mommies!" showed up on the screen, and were split on whether or not they were positive it was a girl or a boy. As soon as the DVD ended, several women clapped and Santana's head went back to the table as Brittany graciously accepted with a thank you. Even though she was pretty sure they all thought Santana was the pregnant one.
After everything returned to normal and Santana stopped pretending to be mad at her mother, lunch was very enjoyable. Santana was happy to see that Brittany's appetite was definitely increasing after she ate all of her own food, and some of everyone else's. "Ok baby I have to go or I'm going to be late." Santana said looking down at her phone.
The experience at the doctors office made it harder to be away from Santana, but she understood. And shopping with Maribel is always distracting and often entertaining. It took forever to say goodbye. About a million kisses later and Maribel was pulling Brittany away. "You will see each other in a few hours. I swear you two." She shook her head as Brittany waved goodbye to Santana, already excited for rehearsal and shopping to be done.
The middle of April brings two exciting things. The end of the first trimester and a visit from Santana. They still aren't ready to tell everyone yet. But that doesn't mean they can't quietly celebrate. Santana gets there in the early afternoon and they go straight back to the bedroom. Rachel makes some comment about their sex life but Santana honestly just wants to hug Brittany, and check if she's showing. Brittany swears she isn't but Santana hopes it's just because Brittany sees her own stomach everyday and that she really is starting to show. After immediately sinking to her knees and pulling Brittany's shirt up she can confirm, no belly. But she kisses her abdomen anyway a few times. Thinking of the sonogram picture she looks at least a hundred times a day.
"Hi baby lemon." Santana says sweetly after they get into bed and Santana is gently stroking Brittany's stomach.
"Baby lemon says hi. And your baby mama says she misses you."
"You've been hanging out with Puck too much. Calling yourself baby mama." She kisses Brittany's lips several times. "God I miss you so much B."
"One more month." Brittany whispers before pressing her lips to Santana's. They hear the door knock and after telling her to come in, Rachel walks in with her eyes closed.
"Everyone clothed?"
"Yes Rachel."
"It's not an unreasonable assumption that you aren't. I've seen it all way too many times." LT runs in and jumps on the bed cuddling into Brittany and giving Santana the evil eye. Santana shakes her head at the cat.
"Tripod."
"Be nice San."
"Anyway. I was wondering if you two would like to come to a party tonight? Please say yes." Rachel holds her hands up like she's pleading. "I don't want to show up by myself but I really want to go. I've barely gone to any parties…"
"Fine. We'll go. Stop begging." Santana replies, but Brittany can hear affection in her voice. She kisses Santana's cheek. Rachel cheers and runs out of the room to start getting ready.
"That was sweet of you." Brittany says as she continues to place little kisses along Santana's jaw line.
"We don't have to go for long. Just enough for Berry to start hanging out with other people and then we'll go."
"Can we nap before we go?" Santana nods as she allows Brittany to cuddle closer to her before they both fall asleep.
The party is lame, Santana decides. There's show tunes and incredible displays of dramatics, but Brittany seems to be having fun so she'll continue to just stand against this wall and watch her like a hawk. Rachel keeps offering them both alcohol which they refuse. Brittany for obvious reasons, Santana for solidarity even though Brittany insists she doesn't mind. Santana has about had her fill of all of this when someone surprises them by walking into the house.
"QUINN!" Rachel screams before running across the room and launching herself into Quinn's arms. "I thought you weren't going to be able to visit for the rest of the semester?"
"I found time."
"Stop being gross." Santana yells from against the wall.
"Hey S. I didn't know you were going to be here. I have excellent timing." Brittany notices at that moment that Quinn is there and turns away from the dancing group of people to wave to her before going back to an incredibly loud and drunk rendition of La Vie Boheme.
Santana saw it as it happened. There was no way she could have stopped it even though she definitely tried. Some boy drunkenly fell off of the table, knocking Brittany to the ground and landing on top of her. As soon as Santana got there she threw through the boy off of Brittany and fell to her knees beside her. "Baby are you ok? That fucking asshole. Britt…"
"I'm fine Santana it's-"
"You fucking idiot! Watch what you're doing!" Santana screamed at the kid. Brittany could hear the tremble in Santana's voice.
"Babe-"
"We need to go to the hospital. It's going to be ok." People have started to gather around Santana which was making her panic worse.
"Santana I'm fine. I promise. Everything feels fine." She grabs either side of Santana's face trying to make her focus on her.
"She's ok San." Quinn is behind them now with her hand on Santana's back.
"Yeah she's fine no need to be a bitch." The kid that knocked Brittany over says. That sets Santana off.
"She's fucking pregnant asshole."
"Santana please calm down." Brittany pleads.
"Let's get out of here." Quinn decides. Lifting Santana up by her upper arm, who in turn gently helps Brittany off of the ground. They all go outside and pile in Quinn's car. "We'll get yours tomorrow. Brittany are you sure you're ok?"
"Positive." She holds tightly onto Santana's hand and presses it into her belly. "Absolutely fine." She cuddles into Santana trying to soothe her.
By time they get back to the apartment, nobody has said anything and Santana has started to calm down. "I'm sorry, I was just scared."
"It's ok baby. Everything is ok."
Santana nods, still feeling guilty. Not only did she embarrass herself, Brittany, and Rachel. She told two of the people that mean the most to them in a really awkward way. After Quinn stops the car, they all head inside.
"I really am sorry I ruined your night." She tells everyone. Quinn waves her off, the party isn't the important thing.
"You're pregnant?" She asks Brittany. Santana can't tell by her voice what Quinn is thinking. Brittany just nods.
"We just weren't ready to tell anyone yet."
"I can't believe you're pregnant." Quinn shakes her head but is smiling now. Brittany feels the tension start to leave the room.
"This is so exciting!" Rachel whispers, almost like she's trying to contain herself. "I had no idea. I mean now that I think about it you have been eating a lot and you have been sleeping a lot more. Oh goodness can I see your belly!"
"You can't see anything yet." Brittany replies while pulling her shirt up to show her still flat stomach. Rachel pouts. "Few more weeks maybe."
"Do your parents know?" Quinn asks.
"Yeah. But not my brothers. Just you two, my parents and Puck."
"Wait Puck knew before I did?" Quinn asked looking almost hurt. Rachel had a small pout as well.
"I told him. I didn't even tell Brittany I was going to. I just had this fear that Brittany would be here without someone who could protect her if she needed it. He was the first person I thought of." Santana explains. "We just wanted to wait till we knew the gender in two weeks. I swear we were going to tell everyone then."
"Well I guess if I'm one of the first five to know…" Quinn says before smiling again and hugging Santana. "I'm really happy for you."
"Thanks Q. We're really happy too." Brittany nods.
"Rachel you were the first person I was planning to tell."
"Well duh. We're practically sisters."
"But I want to tell your dads. Ok? So you have to keep the secret for two more weeks."
"Good luck." Quinn and Santana snorted at the same time.
"Hey! I can keep it a secret." They all laughed as Rachel defended herself.
"Maybe we could all watch a movie since I ruined our night out?"
"You didn't ruin it baby." Brittany coos into her ear.
"Movie sounds great guys. Rach let's go get some blankets."
The rest of the night was spent watching movies with their friends, before heading to bed to hold each other and sleep until Santana would have to leave the next morning. Every time one of them had to leave it got harder on both of them. Neither tried to let their emotions show too much but Santana saw Brittany wiping tears out of her eyes as she drove away and it broke her heart.
The only thing left to do is hug the pillow that still smelled like Santana's shampoo and remind herself that they have another appointment coming up. Then it's only a few weeks left until the semester ends and they won't have to do this back and forth anymore.
She hates that this week is so busy. She is only driving down the day before the appointment, and has to leave right after. All she wants is to spend a few days with her, plan something exciting, a little party maybe. But she can't, and getting a gift isn't really even an option. They had made each other promise that there would be no real gifts for a little while because they need to save money for obvious reasons. But she had to do something, she couldn't let her favorite day of the year pass without occasion.
Sex was an obvious option. A good one she thought as she loaded her stuff into the car for the short trip. She made Santana a card too. A drawing with a house and a sun with her and Santana and a baby between them. Bat and LT were there too. It was silly but sweet and she knew Santana would love it. She also planned to stop at Santana's favorite bakery in town and get her a few of her favorite things. It was the best she thought she could get away with given the circumstances. Plus she had something else to show Santana that she thought she might be pretty excited about.
The drive down ordinarily takes about an hour and fifteen minutes. By the second hour Brittany is losing her patience in an extreme way. She has to pee, she's hungry, and it's not like she even has that much time in this visit anyway. At this point she's going to be there less than twenty-four hours. Yelling at the traffic isn't helping either. Every time she's at a dead stop she texts Santana to update her. Santana is of course worried about Brittany. Which she understands but can't do anything about, which is in turn frustrating her more.
By time she passes cause of the traffic jam she feels a little bad about being so annoyed. It's an overturned truck on the highway. She hopes nobody was hurt. She could easily understand why there were such delays. But it doesn't change the fact that she's in near tears over nothing other than annoyance and hormones at this point.
Santana doesn't hear Brittany coming in but judging by Bat's behavior, he heard something. She goes to the door and opens it just as Brittany is trying to get her key into the lock. The site of her makes her incredibly happy but also a little sad. Brittany standing there in her dress, holding one shoe and wearing the other, and carrying a bunch of bags looks exhausted and completely defeated. "I broke the strap." She explains holding the broken shoe up. "Happy Birthday baby. I'm sorry I'm late." Santana shakes her head and pulls Brittany into a hug. Breathing her in. Feeling the stress melt away a little bit.
"I'm so happy you're here."
"Me too. But I've ruined everything." Santana looks up and sees Brittany's bottom lip trembling.
"What? You haven't ruined anything." She reaches up and holds Brittany's face between her hands, bringing her in for a kiss.
"Yes I did. I was going to make you dinner and sex you up birthday style but now I'm too tired and hungry and I just want to cuddle but you deserve more than that. And I brought these desserts for you but I had to take some bites of them in the car because I was hungry and it's just…I meant today to be better for you."
"It's already the best day baby. You're here. You're healthy. We get to see and hear the baby again tomorrow. And you taking bites of my dessert doesn't make them not delicious. I was going to order take out anyway, and maybe I don't want to be sexed up. Maybe I just want to cuddle too." She says gently, trying not to laugh as she says sexed up. Brittany brushes some of her hair out of her face.
"You're perfect."
"Mmmm. Yeah a little." Brittany smiles for the first time and hugs Santana tight to her.
"Wait! I do have some things for you that aren't ruined." She kicks her stuff inside before petting Bat quickly and then leading Santana to the couch. She pulls the card out of her purse and hands it to Santana. She sits down and takes a second to read it before smiling up at Brittany. "It's perfect. I love you."
Brittany heard her but was distracted for a moment. "You're so beautiful." She says honestly, looking down at a smiling, happy, now blushing Santana. "I love you too. But there's one more thing." She pulls up the hem of her dress and stands to the side so Santana is looking at her in profile. "Can you tell?"
"It's a bump." Santana practically whispers out. Brittany nods, biting her lip. Santana can see it clearly, a slight swelling low on Brittany's stomach. If you didn't know she was pregnant, and if you hadn't spent as much time memorizing Brittany's naked body, you might not be able to tell. But it was definitely there. Before the feelings of excitement came about finally being able to physically see something, she felt a little sad. Santana hated that she hadn't been there to watch for the change. But she shook that thought quickly, and knelt before Brittany placing so many little kisses all over the tiny bump before pressing her forehead to it. "This is perfect. Today is perfect." Brittany pulled her up to kiss her.
Santana took her hand and pulled her down to the couch to cuddle up together. "When did you first realize you could see it?" She asked, sliding her hand over the little bump.
"Not till yesterday. I don't check everyday or anything. But yesterday I was standing in front of the mirror after lunch and I turned to the side and I thought there might be a bump. But I had just ate a lot so I wasn't to sure. But there it was still this morning." Brittany pulled Santana's hand up and kissed her palm before placing it back on her stomach. "That's our baby."
"You know you'll have to show everyone tomorrow when we meet up with them after the appointment. Did you show Rachel? I bet she was excited."
"I haven't shown anybody but you yet. I wanted you to be the first to see." Brittany's thoughtfulness always managed to surprise Santana. Of course Brittany knew that Santana would be sad about not getting to see the baby bump first, so she did what she could to help. Santana tightened her arms around her fiancé in thanks.
The rest of the night went by too quickly. They ate Chinese food before feeding each other bites of the desserts Brittany brought. Eventually they fell asleep on the couch watching a movie until Santana woke up in the very early morning and made Brittany get up to go to bed. After taking their clothes off they crawled under the blankets. The weather was much warmer but it was still cold at night. Santana took Brittany into her arms. "Boy or girl do you think?" Brittany asked sleepily.
"This is just a guess, because I will be happy either way. But…girl."
"Mmmm. Maybe. I'm going to say boy just so one of us is right." She yawned as she danced her fingers over Santana's hand that was resting just over the bump.
"I can't believe I got you pregnant." Santana nuzzles into Brittany's neck.
"Believe it." Brittany yawns. Her breathing starts to even out and Santana falls asleep shortly after.
They wake up the next day and have a small breakfast. While the last appointment made Santana feel uneasy the entire morning leading up to it, this one she feels mostly excited. The entire subway ride and walk into the office is filled with playful touches and secret smiles. By the time they're back in the room and Brittany is laying on the table, Santana can barely contain herself. "Good morning mommies!" The doctor gives her usual greeting as she walks into the room. "How is everyone? Excited?"
"Very." Santana answers.
"How is everything feeling Brittany? Morning sickness still getting better?"
"Definitely. Certain smells make me sick and some things I eat too. But other than that it's been good. I definitely am eating more."
"Good. That's excellent to hear. Ideally you would have gained a tiny bit more weight by this point, but everyone is different as far as how their pregnancy develops. We have no reason to put you on any kind of special diet just yet. Just make sure you're getting enough calories. Ok? It should happen naturally though, now that your morning sickness is better."
"I think so too."
"Santana? Still a ball of stress and anxiety?"
"No-"
"Yes she is." Brittany cuts in not letting Santana lie.
"It will be better when school is over." Brittany nods in agreement. "Speaking of stress… Brittany fell a couple of weeks ago." The doctor nodded her head indicating that she should continue. "But she said she felt ok, and so we didn't go to the doctors. Was that ok?"
"Like I told you at your first appointment. If something feels wrong then you should get to an ER right away, or at the very least call me. But a little fall this early in the pregnancy wouldn't ordinarily hurt anything. Her body is very good at being pregnant and protecting itself. You're going to make yourself sick worrying so much." She winked at Santana, who was looking a little sheepish.
"Told you baby. Calm down." Brittany smiled at her fiancé, grabbing her hand.
"Ok. Are we ready to get started? Still want to know the gender or have you decided to be surprised."
"We definitely want to know." Brittany answered pulling her shirt up.
"Ah I see a little belly forming. Right at sixteen weeks. You'd think I had done this before." The doctor joked as she prepped everything. Brittany tensed up for the cold goo but barely noticed in her excitement. After just a few seconds the doctor had managed to find the baby, and that perfect little heartbeat was playing over the speaker. "Still sounds perfect." She comments, moving the wand around. "Still definitely in the upper percentile growth wise." They were both distractedly nodding as they watched their little baby moving on the screen.
"It's so weird to see it's little leg moving but I can't feel it." Brittany said as Santana just watched in amazement.
"His little leg." The doctor says, almost as if she's correcting Brittany before they both realize what she said and huge smiles break out over their faces.
"His? Really? It's a boy." Santana breathes out. Everything feeling even more real now.
"It is." The doctor answers with a smile.
"San look at him. He's perfect." Brittany says, eyes still focused on the screen but holding Santana's hand tightly.
"He is." But then nervously she turns to the doctor. "How sure are you that it's a boy, and not someone like me?"
"Pretty positive." She answers easily. "Normally in cases like yours, we would see some form of female organs if we look closely. You have them right?"
"Yeah. Like an underdeveloped uterus I guess. But it's there."
"Well he doesn't have anything like that."
"But how come the doctors didn't know that about me then?" Santana asks with a little bit of pain in her voice.
"Because I was looking really hard for it, because I know about your situation, and that you would be nervous. And sonograms are a lot better now than they were when you were born. Normally when you see male genitalia you just stop looking because you think you've found your answer. Unless we have reason to believe that we need to take a closer look at the baby's organs, which at this stage we wouldn't be able to tell too much anyway. Sex organs are mostly formed at this point. And I can say with confidence that you've got a little boy on your hands. Well, not that little." Santana can't contain her excitement anymore. She leans up and kisses Brittany fully on the lips.
"He's perfect and healthy and we don't have to worry about not knowing." She kisses Brittany again. "Not that we're holding you to anything buddy. You can be anything you want." She touches Brittany's stomach and gets the gel on her hand. "Ew. Sorry."
"It's just fine Santana. Pictures and a DVD again?"
"Definitely." Brittany answers, happy at how excited Santana seems. "And we're prepared this time with our own laptop so that your mother doesn't try to borrow one from a stranger again." They all laugh as the doctor hands them some paper towels to clean up.
By the time they get to the restaurant Santana can hardly contain herself. They're going to have a boy. She has her beautiful fiancé's hand in hers. Brittany is excited too, about the baby. But maybe a little nervous about telling Santana's family. "It feels weird not to have my own people to tell about the baby." She says it before the words had even registered in her own head.
"What?" Santana stops and pulls Brittany to the side. "Brittany these are your people too."
"I know. That's not what I meant. I don't know what I mean." Once Santana got over the initial fear that Brittany didn't feel like she belonged in her family she understand.
"No, I get it. I do. And it breaks my heart that you don't have wonderful amazing parents to tell and be excited with. But I'm yours Britt. And he is yours. We are your people. Ok? We are your family now." Brittany just hugs Santana tightly out of lack of a response.
"I love you so much Santana. I don't know how life has worked out so well, but it really really has." Santana kisses Brittany gently against the building.
"I love you too baby. But we really have to get to the restaurant before my mom sends out a search party."
The first thing Maribel says when they walk up is "What took you so long?"
"We're only" Santana looks down at her watch "four minutes late." She says as she hugs her mother, before being tackled by her brothers. It occurs to her that they might do the same to Brittany so she quickly separates herself from them and wraps her arms around Brittany, blocking any attempt they might have made. After a few more less aggressive hugs, for her abuela, they all head inside. Santana thinks her mom looks like she's about to explode as they all give their drink orders. Her abuela is also looking at them expectantly. "Hey B. Let's tell them now. You say it." Brittany nods.
"Hey everyone. I'm happy to see all of you but we wanted you to come to lunch for another reason. We just wanted to tell you all in person that we're pregnant." She says excitedly. Santana watches her brothers face, and they all look like they've been struck stupid. "Maribel and Antonio already knew. But you all were next on our list."
"I knew you would make me a great grandma before long!" Her abuela says excitedly.
"This is so awesome San! Britt, congratulations. I'm going to be the best uncle ever." Which started a round of fights over who would in fact be the best uncle. Louis skipped the fighting and got up to hug his baby sister and her fiancé.
"I didn't think it would happen so soon, but you will be amazing parents." He says honestly.
"That's not the only news though right?!" Maribel shouts.
"No Mami. It's a boy. We have pictures to show everyone." The rest of the lunch consisted of passing pictures around, watching the video, and everybody looking at Brittany's adorable bump. Santana never wanted lunch to end, because she knew as soon as it did that Brittany was leaving to go back to school, and she would be here for another two weeks without her. That thought must have occurred to Brittany at some point because she became a little quiet and withdrawn. Santana doesn't think anyone else notices, but she does.
After goodbyes, and more hugs, and promises to visit Santana's abuela soon, they head back to their apartment. "This visit was too fast." Brittany says sadly.
"Yeah. But two weeks and I'll be up for your last dance show, and then you'll be coming home shortly after that. It's almost done baby."
"I know. It just keeps getting harder." Santana nods in agreement as she pulls Brittany even closer to her. When they get back to the apartment, Santana helps her pack up her stuff, throwing a few I love you notes into pockets of things for Brittany to find later. She carries the stuff down to the car for Brittany. After she finishes putting the bags in the back seat she finds Brittany leaning against the drivers side of the car. Santana walked over and braced her arms on either side of her before leaning in to kiss her.
"Drive safe?" Brittany just nods, not saying anything. Santana just leans up again to kiss her a few times. She feels Brittany's chest start to shake against hers. "Baby…" She tries to sooth.
"I'm sorry I just hate it so bad." She starts crying harder. Santana just wraps her arms around her trying to stay strong for both of them. "I know we're both too busy but could you try to come see me? Before the show? Please?" Brittany has never begged her to visit before. They've both tried to be responsible and not spend the hour and a half driving both ways only to see each other for a few hours. But right about now Santana thinks it would be worth it to commute from school just so she didn't have to see Brittany this upset. "The baby misses you too. When we aren't together. I can feel it." She was trying to be sweet, Santana knows, but that broke her a little bit. Santana just hugs Brittany to her again.
"I'll come. I promise. We will figure it out." A few more kisses were exchanged. "Ok. You have to go or you're going to miss the meeting that you can absolutely not miss under any circumstances."
"I won't be able to present my piece in the show if I don't go. Which means I won't get a grade for my last independent study."
"I know baby. Ok. Go. Be amazing. Call me as soon as you get done. Text me to let me know you got back ok." Brittany nods, kissing Santana again.
"Tell Bat I said bye."
"Tell LT Bat and I said hi." Brittany nods, tears still rolling down her cheeks. Santana kissed her one last time before stepping away from her. Brittany got into the car and waved goodbye before driving away, still trying to wipe tears away. Something had to be done. She couldn't go through that again.
The drive back was terrible. Walking into an apartment that misses the essential element to make any place feel like home was terrible. Telling Rachel that she was having a boy wasn't terrible, but it made her ache for Santana's arms even more. All she could do was hold onto the hope that Santana would find some way to see her this weekend. When she got home after the meeting, the only thing she had energy to do was eat food the Rachel handed her and to text Rachel's father's to request a Skype date with them for tomorrow. She called Santana, which was just an hour long attempt to not cry that she failed at a few times. Then she went to sleep.
The next day was just as bad. Rachel was even starting to get worried. She had seen a lot of Brittany's ups and downs, even if she didn't fully understand why she was having them till recently. She was busy fielding texts from her father, assuring them nothing was wrong and Brittany just wanted to say hi, and getting ready to go to her afternoon class when she heard the key in the lock. It certainly wasn't time for Brittany to be back today. She was debating on whether or not she should grab a knife from the drawer when Santana pushed the door open holding a suitcase, and the leash of a now monstrously large Bat. "What's up short stuff?" Santana asks by way of greeting.
"Brittany didn't tell me you were coming."
"She doesn't know. It's a surprise." Rachel nods her head. That would make sense.
"But why did you bring the dog with you? Couldn't someone watch him for a little bit?" Santana is kneeling down trying to calm Bat down.
"Rachel please come pet him, he's about four seconds from tackling the shit out of you for kisses. Bat could you at least pretend to be tough." Rachel pats Bat on the head from a distance, grimacing when she gets a huge wet lick to her hand. "I'm not here for a little bit. I'm here until Brittany can come back to New York with me, but I had to bring Bat because nobody could watch him for that long." Rachel nods slowly, looking at Bat skeptically. "Please don't make this a deal Rach. She needs me here, you know that. She's miserable."
"Oh. No of course not Santana. I wouldn't make you leave because of her. He's not still eating shoes is he?"
"Mostly out of that phase. Mostly. I would just leave your door shut just in case." Santana shrugs. "Thanks Rach. I should have called. I'm sorry."
Rachel shakes her head. "It's fine Santana. I'm glad you're here. Brittany was breaking my heart a little bit."
"Mine too. Ok I'm going to go put my stuff away. Where's tripod? I bet he missed Bat." She laughed as she walked away.
Santana was just about finished making dinner for Brittany when the door opened. She sincerely hoped that Brittany hasn't been walking around looking that sad all year. Brittany hadn't seen her yet so she just continued cooking until Bat ran up to Brittany. "Hey boy." She said distractedly. "Wait. Bat? Wait. Santana?" She called out.
"Kitchen babe. Come get dinner." She heard Brittany drop all of her stuff and run into the kitchen trailed by a now very excited Bat.
"Santana what are you doing here?" She asked as she threw her arms around her neck happily.
"Came to see you." Santana said as she nuzzled into Brittany's warm neck. "You smell like you've been dancing." Santana scrunched her nose up pretending that Brittany stunk. Brittany laughed and kissed her.
"I can't believe you're here. I thought it would be at least a week. How long can you stay? Why did you bring Bat? Has Rachel been home yet because she might not be thrilled."
"Rachel was here when I got here, and I brought Bat because I'm not leaving you again until it's time to move you back home." Santana smiled, watching Brittany's face brighten even more.
"Really? You're serious? How?"
"Really. I wouldn't joke about something like that Britt. Leaving you breaks my heart. And I told the conductor that I was having a really hard time emotionally with the distance, and that I was going to start commuting down from here, so that if he could limit the amount of rehearsals and shows I'm in as much as possible I would appreciate it. And he said he had actually been thinking about talking to me about taking time off so he could rehearse some of the swing players a little more thoroughly. So I let him know I'd be back the second week of May. And now here I am. With you." Just as Santana leaned in to kiss Brittany again she heard an excited bark and a hiss. "Also LT is really happy we're all together again."
"He'll get over it." Brittany spoke against her lips before she pressed them together. The innocent kiss heated up quickly. Not even Bat barking and the door opening distracted them.
"You've been here less than twelve hours and I'm already catching you having sex in the kitchen. This is going to be fun." Rachel said as she patted Bat so he would stop trying to jump on her.
"This isn't sex. I don't know what you and Q are doing but I think you're doing it wrong." Rachel rolled her eyes and through her keys at Santana.
"Don't forget that we have a Skype date with my dads in a couple of minutes."
"Oh yeah! Sorry. Distracted." She walked away to get the laptop but stuck her head back in the kitchen before disappearing into the bedroom. "Best distraction ever." She blew a kiss at Santana before leaving.
Rachel's dads took the news wonderfully. They immediately began making plans to come down for the baby shower, and again shortly after the birth. They were a half second from calling their travel agent. "Oh I can't wait to be Uncle Hiram! This is so exciting!" Rachel's dad sat clapping his hands and reminding Brittany of exactly how Rachel acts when she is excited.
"Oh well, Uncle works. But Rachel is Aunt Rachel so I was thinking you and Leroy would be Grandpa Hiram and Leroy but…if that makes you feel old…" She waited for the inevitable squeal that came, and she was not disappointed. Rachel was looking at her all teary eyed, and Hiram and Leroy were hugging each other and jumping up and down mostly off screen.
"We're going to be Grandpas!" Rachel laughed at them lovingly.
"Great now they won't be excited when I have children. Thanks guys." Rachel joked. They all laughed knowing that that was the furthest thing from the truth. The Skype call ended and Rachel got up to go to the bathroom before she had to leave again for rehearsal. Brittany just sat there staring at the blank Skype screen.
"That felt like telling my people." She said, sounding a little choked up.
"They are your people Britt."
"They are." She leaned her head on Santana's shoulder. Rachel came back through saying her goodbyes as she ran back out the door to go back to campus.
"Do you have any homework you need to get done tonight?" Brittany shook her head. "Shower now?"
"Do I really stink?"
"Nope. I love the way you smell always. I just want to go to bed early tonight and cuddle. "
The shower started off innocently enough but by the time both had washed their hair, Santana had Brittany pressed against a shower wall kissing her deeply. It was the kind of kiss that felt slow but made your heart beat so fast. It was the kind of kiss that held no hint of goodbye, or desperation. It was exploring and beautiful and everything Brittany needed. By the time they broke apart they were both gasping for air, but their mouths quickly found each other's again.
Brittany started to kiss across Santana's jaw line before sucking gently on her earlobe as she reached down to grip her semi-hard penis. It only took a few strokes until it was completely hard. While their mouths were again pressed together, Brittany hooked one leg over Santana's hip, lined her up, and sunk all the way down, filling herself. They both gasped into each others mouths at the feeling. "Slowly." Brittany told her. Santana nodded, and then gently began thrusting in and out of her fiancé. Santana made love to Brittany, and just as the water started to get cold, she felt Brittany's body start to tense before her walls started to convulse around her as she came. Santana wasn't far behind, burying herself with a deep thrust, she had the most intense orgasm she had had in a while.
After cleaning themselves off in the cool water, they managed to make it back to the bedroom, climbing into bed after barely drying themselves off. They wrapped their arms and legs around each other until they were so close Santana swore she could feel the baby bump pressing into her stomach. She loved it. "I can't believe you're here." Brittany spoke quietly, gently rubbing their noses together.
"I'm just so happy that last night was the end of sleeping without you, or going a whole day without you, for a long time." Brittany smiled brightly and nodded.
"What are you going to do when I'm at classes and working on my dance piece?"
"Take Bat to go pick up some chicks down on the Quad." Santana joked.
"While your pregnant fiancé slaves away in class?" Santana laughed.
"I'm going to pack all of your stuff up so we can head home as soon as the semester ends. I'm going to become a relationship counselor between Bat and LT. Catch up on some reading maybe. Come watch you rehearse if that's ok. Hang out with Puck. I've got things baby, don't you worry. I might even go down to the music department and see if I can sneak my way into a practice room to work on some stuff I've been thinking about. But whatever I'm doing, I'm going to be trying my best not to distract you. You've got to tell me if I am though, we need to make sure we don't put you in a situation that you have to pull an all nighter to get something done. You and the baby need sleep." Brittany yawns as she nods in agreement. "Tired already?"
"Didn't sleep well last night. Too sad." She says sleepily.
"Well you'll sleep perfectly tonight then."
"Perfect." Brittany responded as she tried to cuddle even closer. She fell asleep shortly after to the sound of Santana singing gently in her ear.
Days were easier with Santana there. That was fact. Brittany was definitely sleeping better. She felt calmer in general. While she felt bad that Santana was missing so much work, and money that they couldn't really afford to not have, she knew that she wouldn't have made it the last few weeks of school without her.
Choreographing her own dance piece was a really interesting process with Santana there. She liked to dance about the things she was feeling, and as of late, she felt pregnant. So she was trying to explain, through dance, how that felt to her. Getting to show Santana throughout the process, and hearing her input made it feel even more special. Even though she was constantly having to reassure Santana that the movements, and the time she spent rehearsing was perfectly ok.
The nights were spent having gentle (or not) sex. Talking to the baby. Cuddling up together. Trying to finish up papers. And her favorite, watching Santana compose things on paper that she would play for her later. Watching her lay in bed naked, while Brittany was doing her homework, with her face scrunched up in concentration, drawing little marks on a paper that didn't make sense to Brittany just felt perfect. "Will you compose something for me to dance to someday?"
Santana looked over at her, surprised by the interruption, before smiling brightly. "Hours upon hours of music for you to dance to baby." She didn't know why she hadn't thought of that in the past. Composing music for Brittany. There would be an endless amount of inspiration and then seeing that music made into dance would be an entire new level of excitement for her.
By the time the dance concert came around she was definitely ready to be done with it. She was excited to show everyone, and excited to see Santana's parents. She was not excited for the critique session after the show. And she was exhausted from going through the rehearsals combined with classes. Santana had done everything she could to make the process a little easier for her. Bringing her food and making sure to pick her up and bring her home at every gap in her schedule for a little nap.
It was the day before the public dance concert, so tonight was department preview and critique. The performance went really well she thought. As she sat in the house while they critiqued each individual performance, she wasn't sure if she was going to be able to stay awake. She had Santana's hoodie on and kept breathing in her scent. All she wanted was to be home in her arms. She wasn't sure if it was the pregnancy, senioritis, or Santanaitis. But whatever it was, it was making paying attention awfully difficult.
She hadn't gone into a critique, aside from the first one, not confident they were going to praise her. They never had anything but wonderful things to say to her in the past, but this time she wasn't sure. It wasn't her usual level of technical skill, but she didn't feel comfortable doing a lot of things for obvious reasons. Most of the professor's applauded her, saying it was beautifully done and the composition was inspiring. That they would miss her desperately but they knew she was going to do amazing things. The chair of her department said that she was glad Brittany was able to make the best of her situation. At this point, everyone in the department knew she was pregnant. For one, she made no attempt to hide her, albeit still small, baby bump. And if they managed to not find out from that, or the gossiping, then the dance piece was pretty obvious. Even so, half of the students turned to look back at her, some judging, some supportive. The critique was as good as she could have hoped for, given her professor's opinions. She thought she might be upset not getting the usual glowing praise from her, but she wasn't. She shrugged it off and thanked them and then went right back to waiting for this to be over so she could get to where she really wanted to be.
The public performance went even better. The energy from the audience always helped her. Plus she knew there were people out there cheering for her, so it had to be good. Getting to sleep in that morning didn't hurt either. She felt like she had more energy than she had in days. As soon as she heard the music start, she let herself go, let her body run off of muscle memory, and put as much of her heart into it as possible. The piece ended with her laying on her back smiling, with her stomach exposed and her hands gently holding it. There was a pause when the music ended that almost had her panicking. Did they hate it? But before she could even completely let out her last breath the audience started cheering loudly. She stood up and bowed before running off stage.
Santana had seen this dance a hundred times but every single time it became fuller and more beautiful and this was definitely the best it had ever been. She had unashamed tears rolling down her cheeks as she watched her mother sobbing and clapping. Rachel was a complete mess. Even Puck to her left was trying to wipe away tears that he thought no one saw. She'd make fun of him another time for it. For right now all she had was awe and appreciation for the amazingly talented person that her fiancé was.
The post show hugs, kisses, and praises went quickly. Santana was insistent on getting Brittany home to bed, and Brittany couldn't argue. She was tired. And she knew the next nearly two weeks were going to be pretty crazy between finals, graduation, and moving back home.
It was crazy, but it was quick. She felt like she had hardly taken ten breaths between the night of the dance concert and the time she was walking out of her last final. She wasn't surprised to see Santana parked in the parking lot holding a bouquet of flowers and waiting to take her to a celebratory "All done with school" dinner. Thanks to her free time, Santana had packed nearly everything already. Brittany didn't have crazy amounts of stuff left at school. The bed and all of the other furniture they already had at their other house were getting donated to an organization that provided furniture for students who couldn't afford it.
The day of graduation felt a little anti-climactic. For a lot of people, graduating college was the biggest thing that would have happened in their lives up until this point. But Brittany had met the love of her life, overcome a past that she wasn't sure she would get away from, got engaged, and was pregnant. It wasn't that she wasn't excited. She was. There was a time when she wasn't sure she would make it through school. It was just, she had a lot of other really exciting things going on. But it was nice to hear the section of people (that consisted of the Lopez's and Leroy and Hiram) cheer for Rachel, and then her when it was her time to walk across the stage. They all went to lunch together afterwards. Originally the plan had been to pack everything up the next day to drive home but as soon as lunch was over, Brittany found herself wanting to do it as quickly as possible.
After a lot of convincing Santana that she wasn't too tired to do it today, they managed to get everything packed into Diego's truck, and all of the cars that they had brought. It wasn't like being tired would have mattered much anyway because she didn't carry a single thing to any of the cars. No one would allow it. Everytime she would walk towards something to pick it up it would magically get swooped up before she managed. The rest of the Lopez family were just as bad as Santana. But Brittany couldn't be upset. It was endearing. It felt so good to be cared about so much.
Being home for good was just about the best thing she could have ever hoped for. She spent the first few days doing nothing at all other than cooking dinner for Santana while she was at rehearsal and taking Bat for walks. One of those days when she was laying in the park while Bat rolled in the grass next to her was when she felt the baby move for the first time. She hadn't been sure, because it was actually a very strange little feeling that she had vaguely felt before. But this time it was definitely strong enough that she knew it was the baby. It was this little fluttering feeling. Santana was excited when she called her to tell her. She came home that night and held her hands over Brittany's belly for what felt like hours. Even though Brittany could feel the baby fluttering away, Santana couldn't. "It will be soon San. He's growing so much every day. I bet before the next appointment you will feel him."
And she wasn't wrong, about a week and a half later Santana was laying with her hands on Brittany's stomach while they were watching a movie when she felt the tiniest of movements. "Brit did he just…" but Brittany was already nodding.
"He's moving a lot over here." She took Santana's fingertips and pressed them into her belly on the other side where Santana could feel the little movements.
"This is so amazing." Santana said with awe in her voice. She pressed kisses over the spot where she had felt the movement. "I hope you know how loved you are little boy." Brittany loved it so much when Santana talked to the baby. And she swore the baby did too. He would move more when Santana would start talking. And even calm down sometimes when she would sing. It was beautiful.
As the weeks went on Brittany continued to get steadily bigger. She was getting to the point where anytime anyone would ask her how she was feeling, she would tell them that she felt pregnant. It was kind of all consuming. When she had first moved down to the apartment in the city she managed to do a few choreographing gigs and teach a few classes. It was getting to the point where she didn't feel up to it anymore.
One night in early July Santana came home in the middle of Brittany making dinner, and excitedly told her that she was going to be playing a song or two at a new bar. They were trying to get an open mic night started. One of the intern players at the orchestra was in charge so he asked if anyone would be interested in helping him fill the first night to kick it off. "I've got to figure out what I'm going to play!" She yelled as she ran back to the office to get her guitar. Brittany loved Santana's passion for music and was excited to see her perform in that kind of setting again. She wished she would consider putting some kind of demo together because she was so talented. But Santana wasn't interested in doing any kind of solo work professionally right now.
A week later Brittany found herself at a bar, feeling glares being sent in her direction because what kind of pregnant girl hangs out at the bar? She just laughed as she sipped her ginger ale while hanging out with Quinn and Sam. Everyone that played was really good. It was kind of funny because it was an entire night of professional musicians. She hoped the bar didn't expect this kind of talent each week.
Santana though, was by far the best. She didn't even think she was being biased. She's so captivating. Santana is incredibly beautiful all the time, and Brittany's not blind to the fact that most other people think so too. The amount of times that she catches people checking her out is so high she's lost count. But when she sings, she glows. She imagines it's probably the same way Santana thinks she looks like when she dances.
When she was done singing she definitely got the loudest applause, Brittany noted. And she could tell there was a whole number of people who wanted to talk to her. That was irritating. Jealousy was a new feeling for her. Santana never gave her a reason to feel it before, and she suspected hormones were involved, but recently every time someone looked at Santana she wanted to slap them. And Brittany was a lot of things, but violent wasn't one of them.
As soon as her set was over, Santana hopped off of the stage to pack her guitar back up into her case before going to find Brittany and their friends. She actually wasn't sure how much longer she wanted to stay. It was already starting to get late and they had promised to go to her parents for breakfast in the morning. When did she turn into an old person? She laughed to herself as she closed the last clasp on the case before standing up. She looked around and found Brittany and started heading in that direction when another girl stepped into her path.
"Hey. You were really amazing. Like, so good." The girl complimented her.
"Oh. Thanks."
"You probably do this all the time."
"No. Just helping out a friend." Santana replied. She watched as the girl cocked out her hip and played with her hair.
Brittany was watching the entire interaction, and she was not happy. "Hold this." She thrusted her purse into Sam's lap.
"Where are you go-oh no." He watched his pregnant friend power walk to where Santana and the girl that was coming on way to strong were standing.
"I was wondering if maybe you wanted to get a drink with me or something?"
"I'm actually eng- Hey Britt." Santana saw Brittany walking towards her with purpose. Brittany threw her arms around her neck and kissed her passionately.
"You were amazing. I want to go home and show you how amazing." Brittany spoke seductively but loudly enough for the other girl to hear.
"Yeah let's go." Santana said hurriedly picking up her guitar case and grabbing Brittany's hand and walking towards the exit forgetting about the weird flirting girl and all of their friends.
"Mine bitch." Brittany growled at the girl as they walked past her.
"Whatever prego." The girl responded.
Santana heard the interaction and pulled Brittany into her as they exited the bar. "Baby are you jealous?" Her eyes sparkled with amusement.
"No." Brittany pouted. "Maybe a little."
"You know you don't have any reason to be jealous right? You're the most beautiful girl in the world, and I love you."
"I know. She just…she was sexing you with her eyes. It was gross. And you're mine."
"All yours. Don't worry I was about to flash her my bling." Santana wiggled her engagement ring in front of Brittany's eyes. "Now let's get home. I believe you said you had something to show me?"
Brittany had been sure their sex life would decline the more pregnant she got. But that definitely wasn't the case. Her hormones were driving her crazy. She couldn't get enough of Santana. While she wasn't opposed to it anymore, she hadn't done a lot of touching herself in the past years. But now she couldn't help it. Sometimes Santana wouldn't be there and she'd need it right then. Now was one of those times. She knew Santana wouldn't be home for another hour but if she didn't get some sort of relief soon she was liable to break something.
She laid in their bed, touching herself slowly until she couldn't hold back anymore and began to rub her clit as fast as she could. It didn't take long before she came. But the feeling didn't go away. If anything it was worse. Another two quick orgasms later and she was sweating, and panting, but more turned on then she had ever been in her life. She sent Santana a text.
"Are you almost done? I need you." Santana read the text during their last break. They just had a little bit more to go through but when she called Brittany didn't respond.
"I have to go. I'm sorry. Emergency at home." She got up without packing her stuff and hurried out of the building without even making sure it was ok that she left. She got a taxi as soon as she got outside. When they pulled up in front of their apartment she through money over the seat and hurried out of the car and up to their apartment. When she opened the door she didn't see Brittany anywhere. Santana was starting to get really nervous. "Britt?" She called out but didn't get an answer. Bat was laying on the couch looking bored which she guessed was a good sign. She walked back to the bedroom and saw that the door was closed, but she heard a small whimper through the door.
"Britt are you ok?" She asked as she pushed open the door. She had not been at all prepared for what she saw in front of her. Brittany was naked on the bed, her fingers rubbing her own clit vigorously as her hips made small thrusting motions. She was so wet and swollen, she was literally dripping onto the sheet.
"Need you now Santana." She whined urgently. Santana nodded stupidly before tearing her clothes off, all feelings of panic gone. When she got over to the bed she knelt down next to Brittany who grabbed dick, which was quickly getting hard. She pumped a few times using the hand that she had been touching herself with. Santana could feel that Brittany's hand was still wet and it made her moan. As soon as she was hard Brittany was urging her inside of her. Santana didn't hesitate, burying herself as deeply as she could. Brittany moaned loudly, sounding almost relieved. Santana started thrusting in and out slowly, wanting to build up the pace.
Brittany had zero patience for that. "Harder." She grunted as she rocked herself up to Santana's cock as hard as she could. "Please San. Harder." Santana pumped herself into Brittany with hard and fast strokes. She had never seen Brittany this worked up before. "Right there." She gritted her teeth together before pushing her hips off the bed to get a better angle. A few more thrusts and Santana felt a rush of wetness where their bodies were joined. Brittany collapsed onto the bed. Santana wasn't sure if she should keep going so she started to pull out but Brittany shook her head. "Keep going." She panted, much less demanding. Santana started working herself in and out of Brittany's center at a much easier pace and took over gently stroking her clit with her fingertip. All of the urgency had left Brittany's body and now she was just clutching Santana and almost mewling with pleasure. Santana could feel Brittany's walls convulsing around her and couldn't hold off her own orgasm anymore.
After coming she laid down next to Brittany and continued to gently circle her clit. Brittany shook a little before reaching down and stilling Santana's hand. She was still breathing hard, and her whole body was covered in sweat. "Sorry." She breathed out.
"What for baby? Are you ok?" Santana brushed the hair that was sticking to her sweaty forehead behind her ear.
"I felt like I was burning up. I couldn't stop being turned on. I tried touching myself but every time I came it got worse. I just needed you." Santana kissed her gently.
"I was worried. Next time you send me a text like that maybe put a winky face or something with it ok?" Brittany laughed and nodded. "How many times did you come?"
"Lost count. Could you get me some water?" Santana did, and they fell asleep before they even had a chance to change the sheets.
The next time, Brittany made sure to include that winky face.
August brought heat, a baby shower, and probably the most uncomfortable time of Brittany's life. It wasn't bad. It was just uncomfortable. She could never get cool enough, she felt like she was constantly burning up. She took at least three showers a day some days just to try and not feel so bad. She spent most of the time walking around their apartment in cotton shorts and a sports bra standing in front of the air conditioner. August also brought a name.
They had gone back and forth on whether they wanted to choose a name before the baby was born, or if they wanted to wait until he was born. Brittany had decided, and Santana readily agreed that his middle name would be Antonio after Santana's father. They hadn't told him, and weren't planning on it until the baby was born.
One night Santana was clearing the last of the things out of what had been the office and would now be the baby's bedroom. Brittany was laying in the middle of the floor with the fan on her watching Santana and rubbing her stomach. "Come feel him he's tap dancing." She laughed. Santana knelt down next to her and put her hands where Brittany was pointing.
"He is. He's going to be a dancer just like his mommy." Santana leaned down to kiss her stomach when a name came to her. "What about Nicholas?"
"What?"
"Nicholas. I don't know why but it just kind of came to me. And I know we were both talking about wanting to name him something more classic and less Pilot Inspektor. I've always kind of liked the name but if you don't we can keep trying."
"Nicholas Antonio Lopez." Brittany tried out. As soon as she said it she could feel a warmth in her heart. "Baby Nicky." She smiled again. "I love it. I think that's it."
"Hey baby Nicky." Santana whispered to Brittany's stomach. She felt the same warmth Brittany did. "It feels right."
"It does."
They made the decision not to get attached to any name incase it didn't fit him once he was born, but they both found themselves referring to the baby as Nicky or Nicholas fairly often. Even admitting to Quinn one night that they were considering it for the baby's name when she asked who Brittany was talking about. But she gave her word to keep it a secret.
The baby shower happened not too long after that. They were only a month away from the due date at this point. The bedroom had been painted a nice calming yellow color. They had already put together the crib and the rocking chair, but decided to wait to get anything else until after the shower. It was a good thing they waited. All of their friends, family, and parent's friends showed up. The Berry's were there which was wonderful as Brittany hadn't seen them since graduation.
It took three car loads to get everything home and they spent three days putting everything away and organizing. Santana would often find Brittany folding the washed little onsies, or reorganizing the tiniest socks you've ever seen. Sometimes she would just find her napping in the rocking chair holding her stomach. Those moments always made Santana's breath catch. Those were the moments where she could hardly believe this was her life.
Doctors appointments were weekly now. Their doctor gave them suggestions such as Brittany should up her calorie intake again, they need to start a birthing plan, and to go ahead and take parenting classes.
Parenting classes were hilarious. Santana and Brittany spent most of the time laughing at the clueless terrified fathers. She wasn't sure if it was because she was also woman, but even though she wasn't carrying the baby her motherly instincts had reacted very similar to Brittany's. She wasn't afraid or clumsy with the fake babies. Or even the real ones on the last class when some new mothers who had taken the class brought their little newborns in. Everything felt natural. She wasn't deluded into thinking this was going to be easy, but she was pretty sure that her and Brittany were going to make an awesome parenting team.
Three weeks before she was due they were at the doctor's, telling her about their last parenting class and how much the baby had been moving recently. The appointment was going just like the others, they watched their little boy move on the screen, and even confided in the doctor that they were thinking his name was going to be Nicholas. "Well ladies, I'm going to make a suggestion that I think would be in your best interest to take Brittany. Now, I want you to keep in mind, especially you Santana, that I would never recommend you do something that would put either mother or baby in danger."
Santana swallowed nervously but nodded. "Ok?" Brittany asked.
"I think that we might want to induce labor. I know that you both were hopeful that you could have a chemical free pregnancy, but I'm worried that if we wait until full term that you won't be able to deliver him vaginaly Brittany."
"Is he done…like…" Santana was struggling with words.
"Cooking?" Brittany finished. At that the doctor laughed.
"He is done cooking. Completely viable. If you want to wait, I will support your decision. I just want you to be prepared that it's very possible that will lead to a c-section. That is often the case with babies this size, and first time mothers."
"When would you want to- not now right?" Santana was standing as close to Brittany as possible, holding her hand tightly. They were both nervous.
"No, I think in a few days. So he'll be just over two weeks early, which is not uncommon." She watched the uncertainty pass over their faces. "Why don't you go home and talk about it. Then call the office tomorrow and we'll schedule either your next appointment or your induction ok? I don't want you to make a decision you're not ready to make."
They thanked her before she printed their, possibly last, sonogram pictures and walked them out of the room. They were both quiet as they hailed a taxi.
"We could be moms in less than a week." Santana eventually broke the silence as they sat in the back of the cab.
"That's crazy. It's been real the whole time but… it's hard to think of him outside of my body." Santana nodded her agreement. "I mean I want him outside of my body. I want to hold him and I want to see you hold him and I want to start life with him. But he's been inside of me for almost nine months now."
"I understand. If you're not ready Britt, we'll wait. " They both got quiet again until they were home.
"I don't think I want to wait." Brittany had finally arrived at a conclusion. "I know it's scary. But c-sections scare me more. And if we have to do that anyway then we will. But it scares me to think of someone cutting him out of me. And to walk in knowing that's a huge possibility makes me scared."
"Ok." Santana nodded. "Yeah. I think…you're definitely right. It would be a lot scarier watching that happen. Not that it matters."
"It matters. Your opinion on how he comes into this world, and apparently when, matters Santana. This is your process too. "
"Thank you for saying that Britt. It means a lot to me." She walked up behind Brittany holding her, with both of their hands on her stomach. "Are we ready?"
"As ready as we can be. What do you think?"
"I think we should get ready to meet our baby." They kissed each other gently before calling the doctors office and scheduling the birth four days from then.
Over the next few days the packed their bags, and made arrangements for Sam and Mercedes to take Bat and LT until a few days after the baby was born. Santana strapped the car seat into the back of the car, making sure it was secure at least one hundred times (once in the middle of the night). It was still very warm out so his coming home from the hospital outfit was a little dinosaur onesie with a matching hat. Santana held it up not believing that soon they would have their son, who would barely be big enough to fit into this tiny little onesie, in their arms.
The morning of the induction, Brittany and Santana had decided that they would like to be in the room alone, to minimize stress and keep the energy as calm as possible. Maribel didn't fight it even though Santana could tell she wanted to. The compromise being that Santana promised to keep them updated so that they could be there before the baby was born so they were at least at the hospital at the time of the birth. And of course they were the first people to get to see him.
That was another thing they had been very adamant about. The actual day of his birth the only people that were going to see him were Santana's parents. The next day, anyone else was welcome to come for a short time. At least for a little while, it would be just them. Their friends and the rest of their family (abuela excluded but she would get over it) were completely fine with that arrangement.
They arrived at the hospital and Santana was surprised at how calm she felt. Well, calm was the wrong word. But she had half expected herself to be out of her mind at this point, but she wasn't. She trusted their doctor, Brittany felt ready, everything was going to be ok. They took her and Brittany back to the room that she would have the baby in, which would also be the recovery room. Santana breathed out a sigh of relief as they walked in. It wasn't scary like a lot of the rooms she's seen in movies. It felt kind of like a bedroom. The only medical equipment in the room was what looked like a heart monitor, and an IV stand.
Everything progressed quickly. As soon as Brittany was changed into a gown, the nurse started the IV with the medicine that would start her labor. Santana started to feel herself get more nervous but forced herself to remain calm. Brittany wanted calm. Brittany herself was fairly calm. She felt a little panicky when they stuck her with the IV, but other than that, she felt really confident in the decision they had made.
The doctor stopped by to say hi and visit them a few times. She told them that it might be a little while before she starts to feel anything, and that nurses would be in and out to check on them frequently. She made sure they knew where the paging button was just in case, but assured them that they would probably not need it. They talked about things they wanted to do with Nicholas. The aquarium was a must, as well as taking him to the rehearsal space to listen to Santana play piano once he was big enough so it wouldn't hurt his ears.
When the contractions hit, Santana could see the fear start to hit Brittany. "What if I can't do this? What if my body isn't good at having babies?" Santana leaned down and kissed her forehead softly.
"Your body is going to be just fine at having a baby Britt. He's going to be here soon. Everything is perfect." Santana kept talking in a soothing voice until Brittany looked a little less terrified. A few contractions later, the doctor started coming in to check how dilated she was.
"Still a while to go mommies. I would try to get some rest if you can Brittany. But everything is progressing just fine." Santana did her best to help Brittany do just that. She sang to her softly, and stroked her hair. She fell asleep a few times before a contraction would hit and wake her back up.
"Does it hurt?" Santana asked her worriedly.
"Not too bad. Not yet. It's starting to though, in my back. I can definitely feel something is happening. Could you get me some water?" Santana hurried out of the room to get some water and ice chips for Brittany. While she was out of the room she shot a quick text to her parents saying they still had a while to go.
A few hours later and Brittany was definitely in pain, Santana could tell. She was starting to doubt their decision for no pain killers. "Babe if it's too much I want you to take something for the pain. I hate seeing you like this." Brittany shook her head no, as she closed her eyes against another contraction, which were coming much quicker at this point.
A half an hour later Brittany felt a rush of wetness between her legs. "Something just happened." She said quickly, eyes wide.
"What? What happened?" Santana looked around the room stupidly.
"Between my legs. Check. I think my water broke?"
Santana got up and lifted the blanket to see a wet spot on the bed. She nodded, eyes wide. "Should we call the nurse?" Brittany asked as another contraction hit.
"What?"
"Nurse, Santana. Should we tell one?"
"Oh. Yes. Yeah. Sorry baby." She ran over to the button and pushed it, a nurse ran quickly into the room only seconds later.
"Is everything ok?"
"Broken water. I mean..." Santana took a deep breath as Brittany squeezed her hand. "Her water broke." The nurse calmly smiled and said she'll get the doctor to check on them.
"Are you ok San?" Brittany asked, looking at her.
"I'm fine. I'm sorry. I'm supposed to be calm and strong."
"You are strong. We're both strong. But you're allowed to be nervous. Just keep holding my hand, and maybe also a quick kiss right now?" Santana leaned down to kiss Brittany.
The doctor walked in interrupting the second kiss Santana had been hoping to give her. She looked between Brittany's legs. "Things are looking good. I'm going to come in and check you more often but if you start to feel the urge to push I want you to hit that button. Do not push, even if you feel like you need to, until I get here ok?" They both nodded, Santana increased the pressure on Brittany's hand.
"Text your parents San." Brittany reminded her. Santana did and when she received a text it made her laugh a little. "What?"
"They're already here."
"Figures." Santana laughed and kissed Brittany's cheek.
The contractions started coming quicker and getting more painful. "Remember the plan Santana. Don't let them cut the cord right away. Give it a few minutes. And no formula. I want to try breast feeding right away. No changes unless he's in danger. Right?"
"Right. I remember." Brittany's face scrunched up with another hard contraction. "Breathe baby. Keep breathing." Brittany nodded, practicing her deeper breathing.
"I think I feel it. I want to push."
"Try not to. I'm paging the nurse." But before Santana could even hit the button the doctor walked in.
"How are you feeling?"
"Like I want to push. Just on this last contraction." The doctor put some gloves on and sat on the stool at the end of the bed, lifting the blanket.
"Ok, I think you're ready. Let me get the rest of your team in here ok?" They both nodded.
"It's happening. I can't believe we're going to meet him soon."
"So soon baby. You're doing so well." Santana kept her voice as calm as possible. Fear was bubbling so close to the surface. For their baby, for Brittany. But she knew she had to keep calm.
The doctor and two nurses came in just as Brittany's next contraction hit. "Not yet Brittany. On the next one we'll start pushing." Brittany nodded, gritting her teeth against the urge to push.
The doctor got into position, and one of the nurses stood on the other side, showing Santana how to help hold Brittany's leg for the best pushing possible. "Ok on this next one Brittany, I want you to start pushing ok? Just do what feels natural." Shortly after that the next contraction hit, and Brittany curled up on herself and started straining. "Good. You're doing great."
Santana held her leg, and her hand, giving her as much encouragement as she could without overwhelming her. In between contractions she would stroke her hair off of her face, and give her little bits of water. The labor went on for what felt like forever. Santana went out to tell her parents twice that everything was still going ok. That it was just going slowly. She could tell Brittany was exhausted and it was starting to scare her. In between contractions she was barely coherent, but as soon as the contraction hit, she was right back to pushing as hard as she could. After two solid hours of pushing, Santana was out of her mind with worry.
"We might want to consider a c-section Brittany. I don't want you to exhaust yourself." The doctor finally suggested.
"Is the baby still ok?" Brittany responded weakly.
"He appears to be fine. I'm just worried about you."
"I'm ok. I want to keep going." The doctor looked to Santana who looked down to Brittany. She saw exhaustion, but her eyes were resolute. Santana gave the doctor a nod, she supported Brittany's decision.
"Ok, then let's keep pushing." With the threat of a c-section, Brittany seemed to be pushing even harder. Sometimes screaming, always nearly breaking Santana's hand. She could hardly feel it though. She was so focused on Brittany and helping her count through her contractions.
"Push baby. He's almost here." She would encourage her, even though she had no idea how things were actually progressing.
After another half an hour of pushing the doctor could finally see the top of his head. "He's coming mommies. A few more good pushes Brittany." Brittany nodded weakly but on the next contraction gave it everything she could. "Good Brittany. Let's have another just like that." Brittany gritted her teeth and squeezed Santana's hand and pushed with everything she had. "He's crowning. Look at all that hair! One more push Britt come on!" Brittany took one more deep breath before pushing just as hard as she had last time. "Here he comes!" Santana took a second to look between Britttany's legs just as a slippery baby with jet black hair and a scrunched up little face became visible. "Happy Birthday baby Lopez." The doctor said excitedly.
Brittany collapsed to the bed, exhausted. Santana tore her eyes away from their son to check on Brittany. "He's here baby." She said gently touching Brittany's face trying to calm her breathing. Just as Brittany opened her eyes again, they heard him cry for the first time. "Hear that? That's the best sound ever huh?" Brittany nodded, eyes shining with tears. The doctor quickly cleaned out his nose before placing him on Brittany's chest. She weakly pulled her arms up to hold him to her before the tears started falling.
"Our baby is here."
"He's here. He's so beautiful." Santana marveled at his tiny face and little wrinkled body.
"The most beautiful." Brittany sniffled. They were both vaguely aware that the doctor was still between Brittany's legs finishing the process, but they were both so distracted by their beautiful son that they hardly noticed.
"Ok Santana. I think we can go ahead and cut the cord now. We've given plenty of time to let the cord blood make it's way to his body." Santana took the scissors shakily and cut between the two clamps the doctor had put on to the cord.
One of the nurses came over and adjusted Brittany's bed so she was sitting up a little more. "I know you're exhausted, that was a really long labor, but do you think you could try to breastfeed just a little?" Brittany nodded. The nurse took the baby and wrapped him in a blanket while Santana helped Brittany pull the gown down. The nurse showed them the best way to hold him and after just a few seconds of encouraging him, he latched perfectly onto Brittany's nipple. "He's a natural. You both are." She gave them a few more tips before stepping back and letting them have their moment.
Santana was in awe. Of her son, of Brittany's body, of everything. She could hardly believe what just happened. After just a few minutes of suckling he started to fall asleep. "Done already Nicky?" Brittany asked quietly as Santana stroked the back of his neck. Their eyes both met at the mentioning of his name. "Nicholas Antonio Lopez." She said out loud.
"It's perfect. Everything is perfect."
"It is." Brittany answered. The nurse came back and gently took Nicholas from her, putting him in the little bed that would wheel him down to the nursery.
"Ok, we're going to take him and give him a bath and run some tests. Santana you're welcome to come. Another nurse is going to come in and help you clean up and get you into a clean bed." Santana looked back at Brittany, torn between wanting to go make sure everything is ok with Nicholas and wanting to stay with Brittany. Brittany saw the hesitation in her eyes.
"Go San. Make sure they keep him safe. Tell your parents too on the way." Santana nodded before running over and kissing Brittany.
"You're amazing. I'm so proud of you." She whispered again before kissing her once more and then bolting after the nurse.
"Why don't you go and tell your families, and then just come back down this hall. We won't start anything without you." She laughed as she literally watched Santana literally run to the waiting room.
She slid into the waiting room almost taking out a row of chairs. "Santana is everything ok?"
"Perfect." She leaned over breathing heavily. "He's so perfect. Just, you couldn't even believe."
"Can we come in now?" She shook her head still breathing heavily.
"No. We're going back to the nursery. I will come get you when it's time. Brittany needs a minute too. Almost three hours of pushing. You should have seen her Mami. It was…shit." She started to tear up. Her dad wrapped his arms around her.
"She gave you a beautiful family Santana. You treasure her forever. Now go do what you need to. And come get us when it's time to see our grandson." He kissed her forehead and she immediately bolted to where the nurse had pointed out the nursery. She slowed down to a fast walk as she walked in flashing her wrist band.
"I'm here is he ok?" She asked looking around.
"He's just fine. So first, we want to give him a really good bath, get him nice and clean. I'll show you now, and then we will also go over this again with Brittany before you leave the hospital with him, ok?" Santana already wished Brittany was here, she was overwhelmed by the need to make sure that she remembered everything was said, but she was also completely taken with the baby. Her son. Nicholas.
"Hi Nicholas. I'm your other mommy." She stroked his little cheek. "He's so beautiful." The nurse nodded in agreement.
"He's honestly a spitting image of you." Santana looked back at him to see if she could see it. All she could see was this perfect little thing. She smiled gently. "Ok, let's go over baths." She started to walk through the steps of giving a newborn a bath. After he was all clean she put him into a scale. "9.12 pounds. Big baby, especially for a small girl. And twenty four inches. She deserves a medal." Santana readily agreed. "Ok, now for shots."
"Wait what? He's too little." Santana started to get nervous. Could she really punch a nurse?
"One of them is optional, but the other one is pretty important. It's a vitamin K shot, and it helps his blood clot. I would strongly recommend at least that one."
"Ok." Santana agreed nervously. "Just the one though. I need to do research on vaccines before I'm confident in agreeing to that. And I need to talk to Brittany." The nurse nodded and prepared the shot.
"Ok one shot, and then just a tiny bit of blood to run some tests and then we're all good. Would you like to hold him for it. Sometimes it makes it a little easier for them." It's not lost on Santana that this will be the first time she gets to hold him on her own.
"Yeah. Whatever he needs." The nurse hands him to her and she can't begin to describe the feeling that courses through her at holding this little human that she helped make. "Hey Nicky. She's just going to give you two little pokes. But Mommy is here to keep you safe, ok? And then we can go see your other Mommy who loves you so much." She just kept talking to him as she watched the nurse approach him with the needle. He watched her with his scrunched up little face. She had no idea she would love him this much this soon. It felt like she was going to explode. "Don't watch baby boy. Just watch me. I love you so much." The nurse stuck the needle into his arm and he started to cry again. "Oh I know that hurts. Just one more and then you're all done until your Mommies have done extensive research." The nurse drew a tiny bit of blood next before she was done torturing her son.
"Last order of business. We need to get a band around his foot. What's baby Lopez's full name?"
"Nicholas Antonio Lopez." She leaned down and kissed his little cheek lightly. "I love you so much Nicky."
"Ok. Let's take him back to the room. He seems to be in excellent health and he's already eating, so we're going to leave him in your room unless we see a reason not to. I bet you have tons of visitors Nick."
"Just two. But they are so excited to meet you. But first let's get back to your other mommy." She reluctantly set him back into the rolling crib, hospital procedure, and wheeled him back to Brittany's room. As soon as she opened the door she ran over to her fiancé who was laying back on the bed with her eyes closed. She didn't want to wake her but she felt like she needed to kiss her.
"Not sleeping." Brittany spoke, as though she knew what Santana was thinking.
"We're back. I love you. God Brittany I love you so much. Did you see what you made? He's the most beautiful baby in the world." Brittany cracked her eyes open just as Santana gently kissed her.
"I love you too. Now where's my baby?" Santana walked over to the crib and gently picked up a now sleeping Nicholas. Brittany reveled in the image of Santana finally holding their baby. It made her feel so happy. But Santana set him into her tired arms. He turned his face towards her a little and Brittany stroked his cheek. She barely noticed Santana taking pictures. "For his fans?" She looked up laughing lightly at Santana.
"For us, and his fans, and I just want to remember everything." Santana sat on the edge of the bed and put her phone away.
"Santana he looks just like you. He's got your hair, cheeks and your nose. I bet his eyes are brown too." Santana nodded, she had taken note. "Perfect. He's going to grow up big and handsome like your brothers."
They talked for a few minutes about him, and about the birth. She told Brittany about the shot and how big he is even though he feels so tiny. They spent a few minutes enjoying their baby. "You need to go bring your parents in. Your mom is probably having a fit." Santana had almost forgotten.
"Ok. But I'm telling them just a few minutes. You look exhausted. You just birthed a human. I can't..." Santana just stared at her in awe for another second. "You're amazing." She shook her head as she walked out. Brittany leaned down to kiss her baby's forehead. He had so much dark hair. He scrunched his nose up a little bit which might be the cutest thing in the world. Although she's sure he'll surpass that a hundred times within the next day even. Before long, Santana came back in and walked over to her. Brittany handed her the baby so she could hand him to her parents.
"Oh girls. He's beautiful." Maribel spoke softly. "Can I hold him?"
"Of course Mami." Santana gently handed him to her mother as her father walked over to hug Brittany.
"How big is he?" Maribel asked.
"9.12 pounds and twenty four inches long." Santana said proudly.
"Almost exactly the same as Gabe. You must be in pain Brittany."
"A bit. But it's not as bad as the actual birth, so I kind of feel relieved. Plus it was incredibly worth it." Maribel nodded. She understood.
"We still don't know the little one's name. Have you picked yet?" She asked.
"We did." Brittany answered. Santana nodded as though she wanted Brittany to tell them. "His name is Nicholas Antonio Lopez." She subtly watched for Antonio's reaction. His eyes had been focused on the baby but when she said his name he looked up and over at them.
"Antonio?"
"If you don't mind sharing your name." Brittany answered tiredly.
"I would be honored." He walked over and hugged them both again and subtly wiped a tear out of his eye. "Now let me hold me grandson." He walked over to Maribel and took the baby out of her arms. He looked so tiny compared to him, it was hard to believe that he would grow up to be that big one day.
"I'm so proud of both of you. You're already amazing parents, I can tell." Maribel gave them both kisses before sitting on the edge of the bed and talking about the birth for a little bit. Santana could feel Brittany getting more tired and before long she knew it was time for them to be alone again.
"Ok guys, I think it's time to put the baby down so everyone can get some sleep. Brittany just went through a near twenty four hour labor, I think she might need a nap." Brittany smiled graciously but nodded her head. She didn't know how much longer she could keep her eyes open.
Her parents understood and said their goodbyes, assuring them they would be back tomorrow with some real food, none of this hospital crap, and Santana's brothers. After they left Santana let out a sigh of relief. She walked back over to the bed, noticing Brittany had scooted over a little bit leaving just enough room for her to lay there with her. "Britt I can sleep on the chair, it turns into a cot thing."
"I need you close though. Please. If you get uncomfortable you can move."
"I just don't want to crowd you. It feels painful to not be touching you right now. You know how much I love you, don't you?"
"I do." She said sleepily as Santana climbed onto the bed. She was stroking Brittany's soft blond hair and peppering her forehead with gentle kisses when they both heard the baby start to stir. He started making little noises that mean that he's probably hungry, as the nurse had explained earlier. "Can you get him so I can feed him?"
Santana hated that Brittany couldn't sleep while she took care of him, but she understood. She picked him up and brought him over to Brittany and helped her pull the gown down, and helped him latch on just as the nurse had showed them earlier. "Thank you baby." Brittany whispered. Santana laid back on the bed with her, watching the baby eat. She didn't think she would ever not be fascinated by everything he did. "Talk to me please. I'm afraid I'm going to fall asleep and drop him." Santana nodded sadly, wishing she could do something to help. But then she had an idea.
"How about I help you." She said gently. She took the pillow she had been laying against and braced it behind Brittany's back so she was leaning slightly to the side facing her before she cuddled as close as she could without causing Brittany any paid. Then she put her arm out so she could support Nicholas's weight so Brittany could relax at least a little. "Is this ok?"
"Perfect. This is amazing." She sighed out.
"Now if you fall asleep it will be just fine." Brittany nodded but Santana could tell she was already starting to fall back to sleep. It didn't take long for Nicholas to also fall asleep. Santana contemplated getting up and putting him back in his crib, but right now just laying with both of them felt too right. She laid him flat on her chest on his back like the nurse had said he should be sleeping and laid awake, determined to let Brittany get as much sleep as she could while she comforted both members of her family.
Santana couldn't believe this was her life. That she had just welcomed her first (of hopefully many) children into the world. That her amazing soon to be wife was sleeping next to her, clutching her shirt in one of her hands, doing as well as she could after the long birth she went through. That she had a family now, to love and protect. It was almost too much to take, but she was so happy and so willing to take anything that came along with it.
