A Thunderous Awakening Chapter 2 A Three-Way Struggle to Split the Skies Asunder
The moment Thor looked back to the voices from outside, was his realization of taking his eyes off the Devil. He only had time to look back see the Devil grab him by the throat and fly out the hole she made. The attack caused Thor to lose his bow, not that it would do much against this creature.
Soon more people came into the clearing. A woman supported by a man stumble into the clearing, both bleeding profusely.
The woman's skin was almost pale in color and had a very voluptuous body, something all men who stop and stare at. Her hair was blonde, wavy, and shoulder length, and her eyes were ruby red. Her attire, or what was left of it, was a dress the same color as her eyes.
The man supporting her was tall and muscular. His brown hair was shaved in a military cut and his dark brown eyes were filled with concern and determination. Unlike the woman, he was decked in a full military outfit, with fingerless gloves.
"Victoria, you're ok." The military man said with a sigh, "and you found yourself some company."
"Or a bargaining chip that will help us." Victoria said gleefully, "Where is the master?"
We got separated but I'm sure he'll find us." The blonde answered. Her eyes studied the red-haired man. She didn't want this human to get involved but this would be the only way to get out of this situation alive.
Thor cursed under his breath. This wasn't good. He was dragged into a problem the Devils were having, obviously a fight by the looks of it, but who were they fighting? Fallen Angels or-
"You vile creatures! Taking a human as a hostage! You truly are spawns of evil!"
Thor watched three strangers, young men in their teens or early twenties by the looks of it, appeared from the forest.
In the middle was a young man with spiky blonde hair, golden eyes, and a jolly smile.
The one to the right was scowling deeply, like he was having problems with his life. His hair was medium-length sky blue and slicked. While his eyes were a mismatch. His right eye green while his left eye golden.
The last one had wild brown hair and a black thick braid hanging down his right shoulder, and matching brown eyes. He was the tallest of the three and very muscular, which gave the impression that he could be a professional wrestler.
And all three were wearing the robes of catholic priest…
Thor felt his fists clench at the sight of the men. The Devils were fighting Exorcists! Why couldn't it be Fallen Angels!?
"That's right!" Victoria said as she landed between her fellow Devils and the Exorcists. "If it means getting the Holy Emperor Trio to back off, then will do whatever it takes to survive!"
The Holy Emperor Trio!? What kind of name is that?
That just means we have more of a reason to kill you." The blue haired Exorcists spat, ready to rush forward.
"Now, now Commodus. You wouldn't wish to harm a human would you?"
Out the corner of his eye Thor saw six more people appear. Two women and four men!
The girls were twins by their matching black hair and blue eyes. Their dresses were opposite colors, ruby and sapphire.
One of the men was bald and shirtless, his body was covered in tattoos and muscles. In his hand was a large sword that could cleave a person in two.
The other three men were all skinny and each wore different clothes. One was a red head with a green and violet eye in Chinese robes. The other had an ugly blue Mohawk and beard, his right eye was missing but his left was brown. And lastly was the one leading them who spoke.
He had neatly combed auburn hair, a matching fully beard, narrowed violet eyes, and dressed in a white suit.
This obviously had to be the Peerage's master, what exactly caused then to fight the Exorcists.
"Nero Raimondi, Tiber Commodus, and Felix Augustus. The Holy Emperor Trio." Thor heard the Devil said in disgust. "I'm truly surprised to encounter you up here. Tell me what reason do you have trespassing on mine, on Mortis Amon's territory?"
Amon!? So he was a member of the Amon clan. So all this time, Thor was living in Devil territory!? Did the old man know? No-he couldn't have known. He was just a rich human, wasn't he?
"We were searching for someone." Nero answered.
"You were searching for someone? And yet you attack and kill my servants!"
"Your Peerage attacked us first! We know our Factions are in a ceasefire! We aren't the ones trying to restart the war! Perhaps-"
"Enough Commodus!" Augustus ordered, knowing more arguing would continue the fight. "We are here in search of someone. Someone though to have been dead for years."
"And who would that be?"
"A man…and we believe that is him." Nero answered pointing at Thor.
Thor cursed under his breath. After all these years they were still looking for him!? To trespass onto Devil territory to get him meant they were desperate to get him back.
Mortis looked at Thor then the Exorcists. This boy was who they were searching for? His Peerage and their familiars kept a close eye on everyone in his territory and all the humans, including this one, had no knowledge about the Supernatural world. Apparently this one did if the Church was looking for him.
Why though? What reason did the Church have with this particular redhead? What was special about him? He couldn't sense a Sacred Gear in him and he seem to have no name of any heroes. Perhaps he was a survivor of the Holy Sword project. Like that boy in the Peerage of Lucifer's sister.
"I suppose you won't tell me who his name is or why you need him. However, you lost him and he settled into my territory so this boy is now under my jurisdiction. In fact, if he's important enough to have the Three Emperors of the Church searching for him, he should be in my Peerage as repayment for the ones you killed."
Thor felt himself tense at those words, as did the Exorcists. Oh great, first the Church now the Devils wanted him!?
What's next Fallen Angels!? On second thought, he hoped they wouldn't show up.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?"
"Fuck! So much for a good day!" Thor though as he looked to the treetops.
He, along with the Devils and Exorcist, saw a handsome man with black haired tied back in a ponytail. He wore a silk robes that matched his eyes, which were violet, and filled with curiosity and arrogance. From his back were eight black angel wings.
A Cadre...a fucking high tier Fallen Angel was here!? And he wasn't alone…six other Fallen floated with him. Three four-winged and three six-winged.
"Fallen Angels!? Why are you here!?"
"Mortis Amon...a pleasure to meet you." The Cadre smirked gleefully at the Devil before shifting his gaze to the Exorcist. "Our agents have told us why you're after this boy. We know who he is and that makes him a threat to us! So in short; we're going to kill this boy and all of you as well."
"Only in your dreams, crow!" Augustus yelled back while drawing his pistols and taking aim at the Cadre. His action prompted the lower ranked Fallen to float in front of the Cadre and call forth weapons of light, spears, swords, and axes.
As Thor looked between the three groups he felt Victoria tighten her grip around him and retreat back towards the house. This wasn't good...he was about to get caught up in a three way battle for him.
What he couldn't understand was why the Fallen Angels came to kill him? If they knew who he was it would be better to recruit him. Then again, they weren't the brightest mythological creatures in the Supernatural world. Their arrogance in believing themselves the greatest race played a big factor in them going on the very of extinction.
Since he was marked for death by the crows, his soul would either be added to Mortis Amon's Peerage or recaptured by the Church, the latter he did not wish to happen. If Thor was being honest, he'd rather be a servant to a Devil than fall back in the Church hands. However, he would not submit himself to the whims of a Devil. He would not be a pet to any of them!
"Victoria…get him out of here!" Mortis ordered before called forth his magic and released a stream of fire towards the Exorcist, the twin girls did the same spell but aimed for the Fallen Angels.
The Devil's attacks were answered by the Cadre raining spears down upon the attack and forcing the Exorcists to scatter!
Augustus unloaded his holy bullets onto the Fallen and Commodus disappeared briefly before reappearing in front of Thor! At the same moment however, the large Devil carrying the sword appeared in his way.
While Victoria tightened her grip and gain distance from the fighters, Thor watched the Devil and Exorcist began exchanging blows. Sword against fists, each trying to get a hit on each other.
The speed displayed by the Devil was proof that he was a Knight, along with the sword. The Exorcist, on the other hand, wouldn't be able to keep up with him unless he had a Sacred Gear.
Did all three Exorcists have Sacred Gears? Is that why they were able to go toe to toe with these crows and bats?
As Commodus dodged a strike for his head, the twin Devils fired a water and lightning spell at his unprotected back. It would have hit to, if not for Nero jumping in to take the attacks. To their surprise, and Thor's, Nero was unharmed. In fact, there was a faint glow emitted from the blonde.
Before either could understand what just happened, the sound of screams filled the air. The noise, from what Thor saw, was the red eyed blonde and military dressed Devils getting cut to pieces by one of the four winged Fallen. Their bodies smoking from light burning their flesh. The first two casualties of the battle...how unfortunate for Mortis.
Before she could gloat over her victory, she was blindsided by the one eyed Devil with the blue Mohawk. Grabbing her skull, he squeezed and crushed it like it was soda can.
"A Rook…" Thor thought, "Best be careful around him."
His eyes turned to the three way fight against, Augustus, the Cadre, and Chinese robed Devil. Bullet, spells, and light spears flew everywhere, neither were gaining or losing against the other. It was evenly matched, unless someone else from either side joined in.
Another scream caught Thor's attention. This time by three Fallen getting vaporized by a spell from Mortis.
"Don't worry handsome." Victoria said while landing away from the battle and preparing a teleportation circle, "The life of a Devil won't be that bad. You'll be able to live a longer life, obtain incredible powers, and be able to fly."
Thor sighed. He didn't wanna be dragged into this but those damn followers of God from the Bible were persistent in getting him back. Well if Heaven and Hell wanted him...they would fight for it!
Thor threw his head back, slamming his noggin into Victoria's face. The surprise attack caused the Devil to loosen her grip, allowing the red-head to break free. Not wanting to get recaptured, he turned to face her and delivered an uppercut so powerful it sent her flying into the trees.
With her dealt with for now, he directed his attention to the others. There were three Exorcist, three Fallen Angels, and seven Devils...that meant he would he fighting thirteen people. Thirteen people would not only been fighting each other, but him as well. He would have to defend himself while making a run for it. He couldn't take them all on by himself, especially the Cadre and Amon, their powers were higher than his. The Exorcist, low-tire Devils and Fallen, could be possible to defeated, only if he could fight then one on one.
As soon as he stepped away, Commodus and the Cadre came at him at speeds faster than a cheetah.
He saw the Fallen rain spears down upon the blue-haired Exorcists but weaved his way through attacks like a mouse in a maze. Thor wasted no time in diving to the left to avoid Commodus outstretched hand. He quickly rolled back into his feet before Nero's glowing fist impacted against the ground forming a tiny crater from the attack. The second punch also missed and hit a tree instead, shattering the trunk like it was nothing, and sending one of mother's nature's greatest creation crashing to the ground while wood and bark flew in all directions.
Ignoring the falling tree and splinters, Thor attacked Nero. Instead of giving him a punch to the face as planned he was blindsided by Commodus kneeing him in the side and send him rolling across the dirt.
"My Sacred Gear, Speedy Saint, allows me to run fast. Very fast. As for my Balance breaker, I call it Speedy Saint Supersonic. This grant's me speed to keep up with High Class Devils and Cadre Fallen Angels. And when you combined it with Nero's Sturdy Saint, which allows his defense to get stronger with each hit, we are unbeatable!" Commodus boasted after kicking the Knight away.
"So that explained why they were able to keep up with them." Thor thought as he jumped back to his feet again and spat blood out of his mouth. One attacks the other defends. That truly made them a deadly duo. But what about Augustus? What was so special about him? Did he have a Sacred Gear too or just a Roman Emperor's name? Probably the latter since he was using pistols.
As Thor pulled himself back onto his feet, he saw Victoria, the one eyed and Chinese Devils come at him. Their path was quickly blocked by the remaining Fallen. Their efforts however, were futile. It was like watching a boulder crash through a wall. Thor readied himself for the trio but was saved from it by Augustus unload his pistols onto them.
Victoria and the Chinese Devil, which he heard her call Qin Shen, erected a barrier to protect them while the Rook kept changing, tanking the bullets. He lunged forward, arm pulled back to crush Augustus but instead was greeted by Nero and his glowing fist. The two fists collided and would have canceled each other out, if Nero's wasn't emitting Holy energy. The light power burned the Rooks fist but didn't stop him from sending his other fist into the Exorcist gut which sent him flying through a tree.
Thor surveyed the battlefield. It was obvious the Fallen Angel's would be the first to lose, since only the Cadre remained of the hit squad that came to kill him. The black winged Angels were the most hated species out of all races. It was rare but even Devils and Exorcists would work together to kill a crow. Speaking of the Devil's, Mortis Amon's Peerage wasn't unharmed in this fight. Out of the seven Devils who appeared, only five remained. Who would fall next would be anyone's question, one of the Devil's, the Cadre, or perhaps one of the Exorcist? The latter was very unlikely, those three humans had next to no wounds on them due to the powers of their Gears, skills, and teamwork. In fact they may win this, which means he would go back to the Church. Unless he escape or defeat them, the former being the only choice since he was outnumbered and out skilled.
Thor barely had time to register Commodus appearing right in front of him. The Exorcist forced Thor to go through a series of blocks and dodges while also trying to find a clear path into the forest. Each strike he blocked hurt, it was like hitting a steel door or thick rock. As he blocked a kick, he was too slow to block the uppercut. He felt blood and bile fly out mouth as he went flying into the air. If Commodus was aiming to kill he could have easily cracked his jaw, but the Exorcist were trying to capture him. Nevertheless, that guy hit hard. Twice his attacks left him in excruciating pain and this one sent him into the air.
As gravity pulled him back to earth, he unfortunately was caught in the tight grip of the Cadre Fallen Angel.
"Gotcha!" The Cadre exclaimed.
Thor tried to breathe and pry himself free but his body ached from the pain suffered from the fighting. He watched the Fallen raise his other hand and call forth a knife made of holy light, eyes full of malice at the chance to spill his blood.
He had tried to survive on his own...hoped that he would be able to live out the rest of his life away from the Supernatural world. Away from the Church and its followers. But it seemed God from the Bible or fate prevented such dream now. They - the Three factions - had followed him here. He was trapped in a situation he had no choice. If he didn't want to die right now, he knew what he had to do.
"Stop him!" Nero order, his fellow Exorcists and Devil's rushing as fast as they could to prevent the crazed Fallen from killing Thor. If he succeed their mission would fail, they needed to get him back!
"Don't worry, boy. I'll make sure your death is quick. It would be a shame to let the Devils to take you as a slave so I'll erase your body and soul from existence. So just close your eyes and accepted-" He was interrupted by the sound of thunder suddenly booming in the sky, prompting him to look up in confusion. That's strange, there were no clouds in the sky so were had that come...from…
Mortis' eyes widened as thunder flashed in the sky while lightning came crashing down to the earth destroying trees. He watched the red-haired boy pull the Cadre's hand off his throat and follow up with a right hook to the face that he swore had electricity dancing around it. The punch sent the Fallen spiraling toward the boy's house. Unfortunately, he must have collided with something gas related for the house exploded in a ball of fire. He turned his eyes to Nero who looked back at him.
Nero had his thoughts about this boy and now his theory was confirmed. This was the one they were looking for! He was certain Commodus and Augustus, were sending calls out a call to all Vatican agents. He wasn't sure if other Exorcist were in this country but if they were they better get here fast, otherwise they may not be able to hold out.
"Who is he, Exorcist!?" Qin Shen demanded as he took his place next to his master. Being Mortis Queen he was the last line of defense if the Peerage were defeated.
"I'm only saying this one." Thor said, face scrunched in anger at being attacked and losing his house, "Leave and never come after me again."
"Not without you! The Lord will see that we succeed in our mission to bring you back to your home!" With that declaration, Commodus zoomed forward, dodging lighting strikes with ease, his mind set on subduing the red head and getting him back to Vatican City! The distance was closed in seconds and threw a punch forward. The confident smirk was wiped away when he saw his fist be caught in the Thor's hand.
"I warned you." Thor growled, punching Commodus square in the face, sending the speeders rolling across the dirt.
Mortis, like all Devil's, was prideful but not arrogant. He was down to four servants and each were wounded except him and Qin Shen. His Rook, Knight, and Bishop couldn't handle the combined might of the Emperor Trio and seeing the boy easily catch and hit Commodus, a feat nobody here had been able to do, meant this fight was lost on his part. Before returning to the Underworld he needed a question answered.
"Boy, who are you?" Mortis asked.
"I am Thor. And if you don't wanna end up like the Fallen and Exorcist, I suggest you leave." Thor answered, his attention focused on the Exorcist who he knew would attack for harming Commodus. The less enemies the better of a chance he'd have at winning.
Mortis heard a tiny gasp escape Victoria. Now he and his servants knew why the Church wanted the boy back! But...that couldn't be true! Unless…
Thor saw Augustus and Nero rush him. They were trying to divide his attention by attacking both side. He answered their tag team attack with thunderbolts from his hands. They struck the ground beneath Nero's feet, sending him tumbling to the ground from the explosion. Quickly turning his attention to Augustus, Thor charged the dual-pistol wielding Exorcists, bullets bounced off him harmlessly. Swiping his hand faster than Augustus could react, he knocked his guns from his hands and pulled him into a headlock.
"Pray all you want. Your God won't save you." With that he twisted Augustus head roughly and threw the corpse to the floor.
"Bastard!"
Thor parried Nero's punch and countered with a knee strike and left hook. If Sturdy Saint wasn't activate, those strikes would have broken Nero like a toothpick. Nevertheless, the Sacred Gear didn't stop Thor from unleashing a flurry of punches and kicks. His anger rising with each strike.
He hated the Church!
He hated its followers!
He hated their religion!
His next punch was intercepted by Commodus tackling him. Thor shoved him off and tried to elbow him but missed. Instead he crossed his arms over his face to protect against the axe kick sent by the blue haired man. The followed kick to his gut sent him rolling toward a fallen tree. Thor stumbled to his feet, planting a hand upon the trunk for balance.
"I'll make you pay for killing him!" Commodus yelled furiously and charged the thunder user.
Thor responded by grabbing the tree trunk and swinging it with all his might at the speedster. His weapon however proved useless. Commodus jump on the tree and continue his charge. He released the tree to sidestep a flying punch then blocked a flash kick. His counterpunch, which crackled with thunder, met Commodus left temple. Blood was flowing out of the wound and Thor was sure he had heard his skull crack. It was obviously the attack dazed him which gave Thor a chance to finish him.
But then suddenly, a wave of exhaustion flowed through Thor. He knew immediately what was happening; he overused his powers and its toll was taking effect. Still, he showed those Exorcists why they shouldn't have come and messed with him.
Before he could take a step forward, he heard the slight sound of flesh tearing as pain shot through his body. Looking down his eyes widened to find a spear of light sticking out of his ribcage, his blood staining his clothes and ground red.
As Thor dropped to his knees he called on his faltering strength to spare a glance over his shoulder to see the Cadre. What had previously been an elegantly dressed crow boasting about being superior to other races, was now covered from head to toe in wounds that bled endlessly and burn marks on his robes, skin, and wings, with an arm outstretched from throwing his weapon.
He looked back down to the spear just before it dispersed. If it had hit him a few inches higher it would have destroyed his heart, ending his life in an instant. Then again that would have been better than suffering through the pain of dying.
However, as quickly as he felt the pain it subsided. His nervous system shut down quickly leaving him numb to all feeling. As he slumped to the ground, his vision became blurry. Before losing his sight, he swore he saw a raven looking down at him form the tree tops. His heart was slowing down bit by bit and when it did he would die.
The sound of footsteps reached his ears and saw himself get turned on his back to see Mortis looking down on him with a pitiful expression. No! Not this! He couldn't be a Devil! He refused to be a Devil! He would rather die than become a tool for the Devil's to use! He tried to protest but found his vocal cords unusable. Of course they wouldn't his lungs were stabbed!
"That Crow thought he won but he was wrong. Neither he nor the Church one this bout. I'm sorry but this is the only way to save you. To give you another chance to live." Mortis said as he withdrew a Rook and Knight.
The boy's time was coming to an end but Mortis was undecided on which piece you should be. He was strong from the strength he possessed meaning a Rook's traits would double or even triple that strength and give him a study defense as well.
However, a Knight's speed would help him keep up with fast opponents such as Commodus.
But would a single piece even be able to revive him? He may need more than one and unfortunately the only multiple pieces he had were his six Pawn's. Perhaps those could work.
More importantly, would the Evil Pieces even work? He saw what the boy did, he knows his name. So was he really…
Suddenly, a loud boom followed by a large, bright, beam came shooting down from the Heavens landing right beside Thor and forcing him shut his eyes from the brightness.
As his heart began to stop he heard the sound of a horse neighing followed by a familiar voice.
End
And there we go. Quite a crazy fight huh? What do you guys think of the OC Peerage, Exorcist, and Sacred Gear? I felt a speedster would be a good match for Nero's Study Saint.
