Who Do You Think You Are?

Thinking

"Um, I have to go! Bye!" Garfield ran down the hall as fast as possible to reach out-of-site range. Raven watched him run away with an invisible tail tucked between his legs. She sighed and opened her locker, almost afraid of what he put in there. To her surprise, she found the most beautiful black roses she had ever seen in her life gently laying on her shelf. She gasped and lifted her thin hands to touch the soft pedals. It felt like a baby's skin- so soft and fragile. She pulled them out and took in the light rose smell. Rose was her favorite scent because the smell was so faint, as if it seemed that it had something to hide.

She looked at the note card tied to the stems and she read it to herself.

"Raven, I saw these and thought of u. I hope u like them. -Beast Boy."

Even though his spelling wasn't the greatest, she saw past that fact. Why would he think of her? She herself knew that she was nothing compared to the girls he usually associated with. She doubted that he even knew who she was before yesterday. She considered herself an outcast, unwanted by the world. Could it be that Garfield actually liked her? Garfield wasn't the only one, however. The leader of the Forgotten Angels, Jacob, liked her. She had known him for a long while, and they had even dated off and on over the past years. That all ended when one evening he tried to force his hands on her. Ever since then, she couldn't bring herself to enjoy the company of Jacob's presence even though they shared the same friends. But really, they weren't even her friends anymore.

Raven decided to skip her next class to go outside and think. She knew that sometimes the Forgotten Angels would skip their classes and hang outside, but she pushed that thought out of her head. If she stayed in the grass under the large oak tree, she shouldn't be bothered. It's funny how her school doesn't care if a student skips a class. Even if the principal saw her outside, he would just ignore her.

She took the roses outside with her and found her spot underneath the large oak tree. She loved the shade, as well as the comfort, that it provided. In the corner of her eye, she saw the gang in the shadows against the school wall. If they were still up to no good like they were when she associated with them, they were more than likely snorting drugs. She was once apart of that group and even participated in the drugs herself. In a way, she was thankful she fell out of connection with Jacob so she could quit the drugs. They had began to deteriorate her already waning health.

Raven rested against the tree and looked at her roses quietly. She played with the rose pedals and thoughts of Garfield raced through her mind. He seems so sweet and caring, she thought.A blush spread across her face as she started thinking of Garfield and her together as a couple. She giggled and threw her hands over her face in embarrassment. What was she thinking? Was it even possible? Before she had a chance to gather her thoughts, she saw a figure moving towards her across the courtyard. She looked away, realizing who it was.

Raven held in her breath and closed her eyes as she heard the hard clanks of Jacob's boots approach her. He knelt down beside her leaned in towards her face. She could feel his breath on her cheeks and she knew he was high.

"What the fuck are those?" Jacob asked, pulling the roses out of her hand and brought them to his face to smell them. She glared up at him and reached to take them back. Jacob was quicker, and held them up in the air above her head.

"Jacob, please. Give them back!" She pleaded, attempting to grab them. Every time she reached forward, he would move them in the opposite direction. She was getting tired of dealing with him and just wished she would be left in peace.

"I don't know how many times I have to tell you- call me Jake!" He shouted, tossing the roses away. They scattered across the courtyard in a flurry of pedals and broken stems. He lurched forward and grabbed her by the neck. Squeezing her throat, he pulled her into a bruising kiss and shoved his tongue into her mouth. Raven whimpered under his fierce kiss and soon began to feel lightheaded due to the lack of oxygen.

Was this how she was going to die? She never imagined that her death would be caused by an act of sexual violence. Raven had always hoped that when it was her time to go, she would pass away peacefully in her sleep. She even pondered the thought of dying romantically and tragically from an onset illness.

Raven felt Jacob- no Jake, move his hands from her throat to her shirt. She felt the fabric rip away from her body. She tried to cry out by no noise escaped from her damaged throat. Soon, everything faded to black.

Raven slowly woke to the sound of her name being called. She opened her eyes and blinked a few times to clear her vision. She was met with the face of Garfield, hovering over her with a look of concern. Shaking her head slightly, she lifted her head and tried to sit up. So, she wasn't dead after all. After what happened, she almost wished that she were.

"Raven! Raven, are you okay? Can you hear me?" Garfield said frantically, worry clearly in his voice. Raven briefly wondered why he was there, and where she was at. She didn't recognize the bed she was in, nor did she recognize the beeps and buzzing around her. Looking around, she soon realized she was in a hospital. She was dressed in a grown and her arm was stuck with an IV.

"W-what happened? What are you doing here?" Raven managed to say, still slightly confused by what was going on.

"I was heading to my class when I saw that guy outside on top of you. I hate stuff like that. I saved your flowers, though." Garfield said, smiling sheepishly. Raven looked over to the vase filled with her roses at the side of her bed. Many of the roses had lost their pedals, and some of the stems were broken, but she appreciated the thought anyway. She never had someone care that much about her- especially coming from someone she's only met a couple of times.

"Thank you. Garfield, did you bring me here on your own?" She asked, looking up at Garfield's kind face. She studied the way he looked, each crease and curvature. She memorized the apples of his cheeks, the softness of his lips, and the shine of his bright green eyes.

"Yes, and its a good thing I got you here when I did." He nodded and smiled warmly in her direction. He lifted his hand up slowly and brushed a hair away from her face. He leaned forward and planted a soft kiss to her cheek. He leaned back and looked at her almost lovingly.

"I'm glad your safe, Raven."
