It was the first day of summer holidays, school had just ended with the twins saying goodbye to their friends, even though they would be probably seeing them in just a couple of days, maybe even hours.

It would be the twins' 16th birthday in just a couple of weeks, Caroline was already planning the party, it would probably be huge. Gwen was laying on her bed, her new bed.

The twins had shared a room, but now they were deemed old enough to get their own rooms. While Elena got to stay in the room that was adjoined to Jeremy's throught the bathroom, Gwen got the old office.

She barely had anything, besides her new bed and a dresser, they would probably go shopping for something, maybe she could get new fairy lights.

It had been a while since Gwen had seen Elena, well a while in their terms what with normally being adjoined by the hip, with the new room changes they had seen each other last in the kitchen, that was 2 hours ago.

Gwen felt cold, even with the warm summer breeze going through her room.

She had been feeling cold for a while now, a never ending cold that was always there. Gwen got up, deeming it the time to go look what everyone else was doing, well not that she particularly cared what their parents were doing.

Gwen hadn't cared for a while what their parents were up to, not after finding out about all the "side business", now that she thought about it she actually felt pretty indifferent about her parents altogether.

They were just people who provided for them and althought she was grateful, that was all they were to her, providers.

It was Elena and Jeremy that she cared about. Their parents weren't the only people she felt indifferent about, it contained about everyone besides her siblings. Maybe that wasn´t normal, but well her life wasn't normal to start with, so who actually expected her to survive it and then be normal too.

Gwen didn't have that many friends, it wasn't that she was unliked, it was just that she didn't like that many people. Caroline and Bonnie sometimes felt more like Elena's friends than hers, but Caroline was fun. Not fun like funny, but fun like Gwen liked to watch her.

She was a bit neurotic, and bitchy, but she was fun. Bonnie was a bit judgemental, but she could be good company sometimes.

There was Tyler too, Tyler Lockwood.

Tyler was bit of a alpha male, footballer et cetera all that jazz, but his uncle was damn fine, yes there was a bit of a age difference, but you could always watch, who knows maybe Mason would turn out to like it a bit younger, maybe Gwen would try in a couple of years, when she actually would hopefully be not as flat chested.

Gwen had known about the funny side business that the town´s council was privy to, for a while. Well to be exact, had known about since that faithful day that made her start to dig just a bit deeper under the surface. She of course didn´t actually like all the answers she found, but well better to be in the loop, rather than out of it.

She hadn't told anyone what she knew, well first of all because it wasn´t anyones business, and she really did want to keep her siblings safe and sound, and that included not telling the deep and dark secrets of the world, yes that sounded a bit pretentious but hey let her keep a bit of a humor on the side.

As Gwen walked down the stairs she could see the whole family in the livingroom.

Oh god please no family time, it was so pretentious to play a perfect family when they knew it was just a play.

She tried to hop off the stairs quietly, trying not to alert anyone of her presence. When she got to the hall Gwen let out her breath and quietly opened the front door and got out.

Breathing in the fresh air she tried to hear if anyone was in the neighbourhood. When she could hear no one, Gwen wasn't sure if she was relieved or a bit disappointed.

She didn't particularly care to see anyone at the moment, but she could do with a bit of a fun.

Maybe she would go to the grill, there always seemed to be people. Deciding on going there Gwen hopped on her bicycle, not particularly wanting to walk there, it wasn´t far, but it would be hell walking there and back.

When Gwen got of her bike and walked in to the Grill, she could make out a couple of her classmates, a couple of soccer moms and the local drunks at the bar.

Just as Gwen was going to sit in a booth, someone slipped in there.

"Excuse me?" Gwen stared incredulously at the person who just rudely took her booth.

"Yeah finders keepers, loosers weepers," The person now identified as something like Jake or Chad actually who cares, she really didn't, a classmate rudely said.

"Oh yeah it would be a real shame, if someone found your head in the lake tomorrow," Gwen snidely remarked.

"Really original," The now dubbed Jake the fucking Snake sneered.

" You don't own this booth."

"We´ll see about that, it was mine I spotted it first!" Gwendolyn, maybe a bit childishly kept arguing.

" Oh you are such a bitch, just keep the booth," Jake the Snake finally gave in.

" I am not a bitch, I am the bitch, and you should remember it." Gwen told him happily, no one came between her food and her daily fix of sugar. Food and sugar were sacred, they were like the sliver of sunshine in her rainy life.

Just as Gwendolyn had ordered her food, Tyler sat on the other side of the table. "It better be important, I've had my fair share of sosialicing already, I don´t need anymore of it," Gwen moaned pitifully.

"It´s just Matt, we've been having this stupid fight ever since I said that her sister was hot, and then it escalated to this whole thing and," Before Tyler could continue Gwen slapped her head on to the table.

"Please end me already, just tell him to suck it up. His sister grew boobs, so what? He needs to get over that" Gwen told him.

Matt was the typical next-door-boy with his blond hair and baby blue eyes, he was so sugary sweet it was nauseating. Actually now that she thought about it Matt and Elena would go together like pancakes and syrup, all sugary and sweet. She would have to think about that one later again hmm.

"Tyler, would you say that your uncle, you know the one all abs and tan, is home at the moment?" Gwen interrupted him once again, just as he was getting on another rant about Matt and his sister. It would be perfect, it would end the day with just the right amount of abs and golden goodness, oh she could already feel the satisfaction she would get, from just watching him. "Yes yes, we should definetely hang out at your place, totally," Once again interrupted after his positive answer Gwen started to drag Tyler already out.

"Wait what about your meal?" asked Tyler confused, even he knew how important food was to her.

"Well I didn´t even have money anyways, who cares let's go, let's go!" Gwen started to physically push the very confused Tyler out of the door.

When they finally got to the Lockwood's Gwen was half dead. "I really should have just waited for my food, this was totally not worth it." Gwen moaned to Tyler. "Actually on second note, totally worth it," she stated while following Mason with her eyes, Mason who had just came from a run.

"Soo, do you want to eat something, you know after your interrupted meal," Tyler asked her.

"Yeah, yeah sure," Gwen asked half drooling.

With sandwiches in hand, well pretty poor sandwiches since Tyler had made them, they sat at the table.

Gwen still staring at Mason, who still wasn´t giving them anymore attention, well other than the "hey," he had shouted at them.

"He is mouthwatering," Gwen told Tyler, although with his weirded out look she corrected, " I mean this sandwich is mouthwatering." She tried to smile at him.

Tyler just kept looking at her a little confused and weirded out.

"Are you sure that you are here to help me with the Matt situation, and not just to keep ogling my uncle, which is by the way really disturbing."

"Wait is that why I'm here, to help you with that, I thought you said you had some pixie sticks! That's just lame, I'm going home." She told him rising, and walking to the door, all the while looking at Mason. "Yeah, bye Tyler see you at school," Gwen told him already half out of the door.

"Wait, but it's the first day of summer holiday?" Tyler shouted after her still confused.

"Excatly!" Gwen yelled back.

She was already past the driveway, by the time that Tyler got the meaning.

When the twins' birthday finally came on the 22nd of June, Caroline had practically invited the whole town, well of course not anyone over 18. '

Of course there were people who weren't that excited about a couple of 16 years old, but almost everyone came for the free booze that was promised. Tyler had promised to get them some, probably some kind of cheap tequila that would leave everyone puking their guts out the morning after, but well you had to with what you were given.

"Caroline are you sure this is a good idea?" Elena asked Caroline, probably for the 100th time that day.

"Yes! We will be at the Falls, so for sure no one will come looking there, unless someone will call the cops," Caroline told Elena, while raising her eyebrows challengingly.

"What no! I'm not going to call the cops to my own birthday party," Elena argued.

"Hmm, that would actually be a good alibi, no one would expect you to call the cops to your own birthday party," Gwen butted in to the conversation with a bored look on her face.

"Why are you guys ganging up on me! Help me Bonnie,"

"I'm sorry Elena, that is actually pretty good thinking," Bonnie finally participated in the conversation. "Although guys, I really don't think Lena would do that."

" And Bon Bon you were doing so good!" Gwen told her with a mournful face.

The girls had been thinking all morning about all the things that could go wrong with the party, and at that point the list contained;

1. Someone (Elena panicking) calling the cops,

2. The twins' not making a wish while blowing the candles (Caroline's idea of a ruined party) and

3. Tyler repeating the naked run episode from last year that everyone still tried to forget (unsuccessfully)

4. The night not ending with Elena sleeping while the party was still going on (happened everytime)

Atleast that was all they had at that point, and they had been brainstorming for the whole morning already.

When they finally got enough of all the brainstorming, and decided it was time to get ready and head to the Falls.

The girls all went to Elena's room to get ready, Caroline in her yellow summerdress, Bonnie and Elena in their more casual jeanskirts, and Gwen in a dark red summerdress. '

It wasn't that formal, but they excepted their clothes to be dirty by the nightfall, someone would probably spill something anyways.

The girls all piled into Grayson's car. Elena and Gwen had told their parents that they would spent the night at Caroline's, because she lived closest to the Falls, and it would only be a short walking distance from there.

When they finally got to the Falls, it was already bustling with people. Caroline set down the cake on the nearby table and clapped her hands. "Oh it really is perfect, just how I envisioned it," she told them, looking satisfied.

"Care you really have outdone yourself this time," Elena gushed to her, even Gwen looked impressed.

There were fairylights everywhere, and it looked magical.
