Genetic Perfection
I was reading through some old stuff I'd done while I was away on holiday and decided to write something for the first time in a long time. I didn't expect to write anything again if I'm perfectly honest but here we are. I'm going to be making this light hearted and kind of silly with an extremely over-powered, perfect Sheperd. But that is the point.
Keelah, she just had to try and do the right thing, didn't' she. She couldn't have just spaced the damn Geth memory core and be done with all the trouble when things became too much for her. But no, she had to try and play hero of the galaxy like the one's she had read or watched vids about and now she had all variety of people and machines trying to kill her. She blamed herself for this.
The trouble was, she was only Tali and not one of the hero's from the vids. They would not have made the mistake of alerting an entire Geth patrol of her presence, they would not have made the mistake of stealing the slowest ship in the entire galaxy as her escape vehicle and they most certainly not have gotten shot.
And all of this now led Tali'Zorah here, to a dark alley in the middle of a strange space station with her relying on the word of a crime lord working for the Shadow Broker. How stupid was she to have ended up in this situation? Her father had always warned her that those stories of bravery and heroism would get to her head and get her into trouble.
Before she could berate herself any further for her foolishness, three figures walked down into the alley where she stood waiting impatiently. One she could see was a Turian while the other two appeared to be Salarians but were dressed in full body armor. While she wasn't very good at reading Turian body language, something in her gut told Tali that something was about to go very wrong.
"Did you bring it?" the Turian asked casually, walking towards her.
"Where's the Shadow Broker? Where's Fist?" she demanded, trying to not to convey just how nervous she really was.
"They'll be here: where's the evidence?" the man questioned, running his hand down Tali's side. She resisted the urge to vomit as she slapped his hand away.
"No way, the deal's off".
As soon as she said this the Turian's eyes narrowed and he looked over her shoulder. Acting on instinct the Quarian quickly grabbed a stun grenade from her belt, her last one, and looked behind her in time to see the two Salarian's reaching for their pistols. Tali threw the grenade towards them before they had a chance to shoot her knocking the two of them off their feet. The distraction gave her enough time to get into cover but now, unfortunately, she was trapped. She could not make it to the exit behind her because she would just be shot down and there was no way she could take down all of them.
Looking around cover she resisted the urge to squeal in terror as she spotted there were now six of them. Come on you stupid bosh'tet, think of something. What would Blasto do in this situation, apart from not getting into this situation to begin with? Maybe he would… no, that wouldn't work in an enclosed space. But perhaps if she used… no, she most certainly didn't have any hairclips that she could use at the moment. A shot went very close to hitting her head, causing her to gasp very loudly. Please, someone help me!
No sooner had she the thought crossed her mind, she heard an increase in the number of gun shots, accompanied by a series of cries as, what she hoped were her enemies, being shot down. Opening the eyes she hadn't realised she had closed she looked around her cover and spotted a group of four coming down the stairs behind the thugs, guns at the ready. From what she could see in the dark corridor, one was Turian, another was Krogan while the other two could be either female Humans or Asari.
They quickly dispatched the enemies with ruthless efficiency and before long only the Turian remained. He came out of cover, quickly throwing a grenade at the feet of the group. The Turian, Krogan and one of the humanoids in the group managed to evade the blast but the other humanoid simply carried on walking casually towards the Turian even as the grenade he had thrown exploded at her feet.
Tali watched mesmerised as the blast did not even appear to affect the person's balance let alone harm her. She hadn't even bothered to grab one of her weapons as she advanced on her prey. As she stepped closer to the Turian, Tali could make out more of her features and was stunned as the woman came fully into view. To say she was beautiful would have been an understatement.
In a panic the Turian thug brought up his shotgun but before he had time to press the trigger the woman had made her move and within a fraction of her second had grabbed the gun and somehow had managed to turn it back on the thug. The Turian simply stood there stunned for a moment as he tried to register just what had happened.
"Wrex!" the woman called. Tali watched as the massive Krogan approached the human. "Make sure he doesn't move".
Letting the Krogan keep watch, the woman made her way towards the Quarian, and Tali gulped in a mixture of nervousness and excitement. She made it a few feet away before Tali saw a slight smirk appear on the human's lips.
"You can come out of cover now: it's safe".
It was then that Tali realised she was still crouched behind where she had been hiding and so quickly got to her feet. Trying to regain some measure of pride Tali spoke up.
"Fist set me up! I can't believe that bosh'tet".
"Don't worry, we dealt with him" the woman explained glancing briefly at the Krogan behind her.
"Then I have two reasons to thank you" Tali answered. "But, who are you?"
"I'm Commander Evelyn Sheperd with the Alliance navy. I've been looking for evidence against Spectre Saren Arterius and have reason to believe that you have that very evidence" Sheperd explained.
"Then I can repay you for saving my life".
Nodding, Sheperd smiled at Tali and held out a hand for the Quarian. Tali was sure that her mask was beginning to fog as she held up her own hand allowing Sheperd to grip it. As she was guided out of the alley Tali smiled to herself, perhaps I'm not a hero, but she certainly appears to be.
