Japanese:

Baka - an idiot; fool

Burai - trans., "Rascal"

Ecchi - themes, imagery, or works noting or pertaining to a subgenre of manga, anime, etc., characterized by light, playful sexual themes and imagery; soft porn. Also, a person who enjoys this

Gaijin - an outsider; foreigner

Guren - trans., "Crimson lotus flower"

Hentai - themes, imagery, or works noting or pertaining to a subgenre of manga, anime, etc., characterized by explicit sexual themes and imagery; hard porn. Also, a person who enjoys this; a sexual pervert

Kanji - a Japanese writing system using characters mainly derived from Chinese ideograms. Also, a character used in this writing system

Serafuku - school uniform for female students modeled on European-style naval uniforms

Tennō Heika - trans., "His Majesty the Emperor," usually in reference to the Emperor of Japan (used here sarcastically, of course)

Tyourei - a morning assembly by a school's student body to be addressed by the principal

Airs and graces - a haughty attitude

Approved school - reform school; juvenile detention center

Blinkered - narrow-minded; opinionated

By-law - a regulation; ordinance

Compulsory purchase - eminent domain

Cracker - a computer hacker

Dole - welfare, specifically unemployment benefit

Dust* - to run

Emergency blinker - emergency indicator of an automobile

Estate agent - a realtor; real estate agent

Fairy lights - decorative Christmas lights

Fix - fasten; set; attach; arrange

Fizzy drink / fizzy pop - soda pop; coke; soft drink

Fourth form - school course/rank equivalent to U.S. freshman year

Funfair - an amusement park; a travelling carnival

Heath Robinson - Rube Goldberg; absurdly complex

Hire purchase - an installment plan

Hump - to move a heavy load by human effort a short distance

Icing sugar - powdered sugar; confectioner's sugar

In a bitch* - screwed; up a certain creek without a paddle

Jobsworth - a minor clerical/government worker who refuses to be flexible in the application of rules to help clients or customers; anyone who uses their job description in a deliberately obstructive way

Leader - a newspaper editorial

Legacy account - funds remaining (as in a budget)

Lesson - class (as in school or university)

Letter box - a slot in a wall or door through which incoming post is delivered; a mail slot

Letting - to rent out (as in property or housing)

Motorway - a freeway

Mush - casual term for friend, mate, pal

Newsreader - a news anchor

Nissen hut - a Quonset hut

Office - a government department

Off-license - liquor store; package store

Package holiday - a package tour

People mover - a minivan or other passenger van

Punch-up - a fistfight; brawl

Read - to study a subject at university

Redundancy - to be laid off; carries less negative connotations than "sacked", which is equivalent to being fired or a dishonorable discharge

Remit - a responsibility; duty

Scheme - an official, scheduled plan

Shambolic - in a state of chaos

Sleeping partner - silent partner

Smarties - M&M's

Straight away - immediately; this instant

Swot - an aloof and unpopular student who studies to excess

Table - to open up an item for discussion (opposite of U.S. use of the term)

Telecast - broadcast; put on the air

Territorial - a member of the Army Reserve

Trading estate - an industrial park

Trust - an organization or institution established by endowment with provision for future maintenance; a foundation

Wah gawrn* - "What's happening?"

Walk out with - to be romantically involved with

Well - very much

Windscreen - windshield

Yobbo - a lout; young troublemaker

You're twisting my melon - an expression of confusion or irritation

Autobahn - German highways

instabil Moleküle - trans., "unstable molecules"

Kultur - a civilization, social organization, or culture emphasizing practical efficiency and individual subordination to the state; the highly systematized German culture held to be superior especially by militant groups; often used ironically or in a derogatory sense when referring to imperialism, authoritarianism, etc.

Luftmensch - an impractical, contemplative person having no definite business or income

Vorsprung durch Technik - advantage or competitive edge through technology
