Anthony sat on the edge of his bed staring at the door that separated their two rooms.

This is not how he imaged his wedding night, when he had decided that he would ask Lady Edith to marry him at the garden party all those years ago.

His thoughts differed back to before the war, to the night of the dinner party when he had first meet Edith.

He knew he had been invited to be introduce to Lady Mary,he had heard the rumours and he knew that her parents must had been desperate to get her married off.

But he has he tried to focus on Lady Mary, he found that he wished he was talking to Lady Edith instead and he suspected that Lady Mary did not really have much interest in him.

He could hardly believe his nerve when he decided to call on Downton the next day and ask if Lady Edith would like to go for a drive and his luck when she said yes.

Has they both got over their nerves and began to talk he found himself falling in love with the beautifully young women beside him.

Little did he know how much would happen between them, before he made that young women his wife.

He was under no illusion that Edith still loved him and had only agreed to marry him so that she could keep her child, but he hoped over time that they could form some sort of friendship.

But what ever happened he swore to himself that he would do what he could to protect Edith and her child.

This one one of the reasons why he suggested that they live in his smaller house in Devon, he thought that living in Kirkby house might be easer for her and if he is being honest with himself easer for him than living at Loxley with it being so close to her family, who only knew about the marriage when Edith had sent a telegram after the service was over earlier today.

He could hear crying coming from her bedroom, the sound broke his heart he walked towards the door but has his hand reached towards the handle he paused, he wanted to go in and comfort her but he was afraid that his presence would be unwelcome.

In the end he found the courage he had all those years ago when he had decided to call at Downton and knocked on the door and opened it slightly.

He waited a few seconds before entering the room to give Edith time to tell him to leave her alone.

But the only sounds that filled the two rooms was Edith sobs, so he took a chance and walked over towards the bed in the hope that he could ease his beloved wife suffering.
