Hey guys!
I know I haven't updated in while ever since I revised the first chapter.
I found it was a lot easier to write.
Also some reviews would be appreciated.
This chapter reminds me of the song Stars by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.
I hope you like it.
On with the story!
Fang Pov
How did she manage?
How did she do it with a brave face?
How did she pretend everything was okay?
Nothing ever was okay, I realize that now.
She would smile, even when all hope was lost.
How did she do it?
I wish she was strong enough to overcome the world, but I have to face the facts.
She wasn't.
We won't move on without her.
We are lost.
The worst part was that I watched her die.
I saw them sink the syringe right into her bare arm.
***Flashback***
It was around 10:00 pm and the rest of the flock was fast asleep.
Everyone except for Max and I.
This happens all the time. After a ruff day the two of us would just sit on the roof and look at the stars.
We just sit there for hours looking out across the sky.
We don't really say much during this time. To be honest there isn't anything to say.
" Do you ever wonder what's out there? You know beyond the stars?" Max asks.
"Sometimes." I answer.
" Well I do, all the time actually. It gives me hope." She sighs.
" Hope for what?" I ask.
" For a better tomorrow, I guess. A day when we don't have to fight for our lives. A day we don't have to eat out of garbage cans." She replies.
" You mean the day after you save the world?" I wonder.
" I don't really know when it is, to be truthful. I just want it to come soon."
" We all want that day Max, but you know it's not possible." I whisper.
" I know, I'm just sick of fighting to get through another day." She says quietly.
" We could always go to a deserted island." I offer.
" They'd find us sooner or later. Everywhere we go they follow. It's not fair. We deserve a life." Max stands up and starts pacing back and forth.
" I know it's not fair, but this is our lives. This is our nightmare."
" I mean look at us! We're on death's hit list. I just don't know what to do anymore, Fang." She murmurs. " I just don't know what to do."
" How can you say that? Your the strongest person I know and... I love you."I say as I kiss her.
Oh great! I've done it. Just when I show any emotion it blows up in my face.
Watch her runaway in three...two...one...
Yet there she was with her eyes shut kissing me.
This has to be a dream.
This was way to good to be true.
Suddenly I heard a scream in the distance.
"Was that-"
"You don't think-"
" Angel!" We both screamed.
Jumping off the roof we flew straight into the house.
In a matter of seconds, the door came crashing down.
There in front of us stood Ari, the creepy jack in the box eraser.
but hold on, it gets worse.
Ari was also holding an unconscious seven year old in his meaty paws.
The bastard.
" Hey birdies! Like my little surprise? " He asks.
" Oh yeah about as much as your going to like my foot up your ass!" Max snarls.
" So that's how it's going to be? Bring it." Ari laughs.
It was a fight to the death.
Good versus evil.
Only one could survive.
At first the odds looked grim,
that is until Ari's head got smashed against the wall a few times.
Walking in imaginary circles, the stupid and flat out redundant eraser fell backwards to the lowest place in the world.
NOT. EVEN. CLOSE.
Barely standing Ari grabbed a syringe from his back pocket and jammed it right into Max's side.
Showing absolutely no result, he then extended the needle and smashed it into her arm.
" No!" I screamed, but it was too late.
As soon as that syringe hit her arm Max's eyes began to flutter. Her legs began to wobble and then with one small push, she fell to the ground.
" Angel? Angel! Please tell me that she's alright." I gasp.
" I wish I could Fang." she said with tears dribbling down her cheeks.
Max was dead. The great Maximum ride was dead.
It was then that my world came crumbling to the ground.
***End of flashback***
Later that day we all had a burial for Max.
We even placed a tombstone right in front of her head.
It read:
Here lies Maximum Ride
the best leader, fighter and all around person there ever was
May she rest in peace
Like I said before we can't move on.
We're stuck, like rocks in a river, never moving forwards just...existing.
I don't go on the roof anymore.
It reminds me too much of her.
I now know what lies beyond the stars and it's her.
Something I will never reach, no matter how hard I try.
I will always try.
So that chapter was kind of sad, but don't worry something exciting will happen in chapter 4!
Please review!
See you in the stars
