There, standing in the broken courtyard of the Kamiya dojo, was a still figure. Her long black hair swayed in the gentle breeze. Her white kimono stained dark. A tense silence settled over the broken dojo's inhabitants that had gathered. She was just standing, there not saying a word. Hesitantly, a young voice in the darkness.

"Are you…?"

She was staring at the night sky that was lightening with the approaching dawn. Her fingers were twitching slightly as blood slowly dripped onto the sand; staining it. Suddenly, the world was a flurry of noise and pain.

"..aoru?"

"It's not possible!"

"I need my medicine chest!"

Reacting as she had been struck, recoiling back in pain at the noise. Stumbling back when they tried to approach her. Something was wrong. She knew.

"Kaoru-dono" That voice. His voice. That voice that had stolen her heart once upon a time. Her head turned slowly and looked into sorrowful purple eyes. "...said you were waiting. I thought I smelled jasmine. Please, I…" His voice faded from her ears as she turned to look at the rising sun. He was still talking but she just couldn't find the strength to listen. This was wrong. It was a mistake. It wasn't supposed to be like this.

She jerked back as again his arms tried to circle around her. The golden rays were streaking across the sky making everything glow. She remembered the warmth and lightness. Of finally being free and safe. She swore she could almost hear her parents laughter calling to her. Most of all she remembered that all her burdens and hardships were over and she was done. She had been done.

She wasn't supposed to be here.

In a broken voice, Kamiya Kaoru asked the only question that made sense.

"Is this hell?"
