Chapter 2.: Strange Illness
Kurama felt like a soulless shell. He felt empty and he was angry with himself. He screwed it up! Their friendship must be ruined now. He felt like he didn't want to live anymore. His human body was eighteen and he was living in his own apartment.
He wanted to knock himself out but thought it over and knew alcohol wouldn't help. It never did.
He felt sick. He couldn't eat. He couldn't sleep either. All he could do was sitting on his sofa drinking a nice, strong herbal tea. He knew he should've done some gardening at least, because he just moved in, two days after the incident with Hiei.
This went on for three days. He couldn't cry. But at the end of the third day he finally cried himself into sleep.
Then he couldn't sleep for two more days. That was when Yusuke called for first. Kurama didn't answer the phone, so he left a message in his voicemail.
"Hey Fox boy it's Yusuke calling! We're going out tonight with Kuwabara for a few drink. Call me if ya' wanna' join."
He didn't call of course. Three more days passed and since he hasn't called Yusuke started to get worried.
"Hey man I'm startin' to get worried 'bout ya'! What's up? Call me!"
"Jeez mate, yer' freakin' me out! C'mon Kurama, call me damn it!"
"Kurama, are you ok man?"
"Kurama answer your damned phone damn it!"
"Kurama, you there?"

After two weeks had passed this way Kurama was getting physically sick too. He'd barely eaten anything; still he threw up every morning. Plus he felt some weird changes in his spirit energy. Then something even stranger happened:
he spontaneously passed out. He's never fainted before. Luckily he fell onto the soft rug in his living room. He didn't know how many minutes did he spend there, lying unconsciously. He became very weak as though he was ill. It felt like the half demon was running out of both spirit and demon energy. But he didn't have the strength anymore to investigate the cause of his illness or weird state.

When three weeks have passed after Yusuke's engagement party he got way too worried about his friend. It was a Saturday so he didn't have to go to work. He got dressed and headed to Kurama's not even bothering to have breakfast. His mom was still sound asleep.
When he was at Kurama's front door he rang the bell. No one answered so he rang it again.
"I'm coming, just a minute!"-came a voice from inside.
"Kurama?"-Yusuke barely recognized his friend's voice; it was so tired and worn out…possibly even sick.
"Oh hi Yusuke!-Kurama smiled.-"Come in!"
"Hey mate."-Kurama locked the door. Then he took a step towards Yusuke and blacked out.
"Kurama!"-He yelled.-"Wake up man!"
He shook him violently but it didn't help. He picked Kurama up bridal style and put him down onto the couch. He put his palm against the fox's forehead.
"Jeez you're burning up!"
He quickly looked for a cloth and for some pills. He soon found the medicine, but he couldn't find a piece of cloth to put onto his friend's forehead. He opened the door of Kurama's bedroom and found Hiei's bandana on the bedside table.
"Hiei's bandana? Huh weird. Whatever I guess the shrimp won't mind, this is important damn it!"
He wetted the cloth and placed it on Kurama's temple.
After fifteen minutes Kurama opened his large emerald eyes.
"What…"-he coughed-"W-What happened?"
"Thank God yer' awake! Ya' scared the crap outta' me man! You fainted Kurama! Since when are you randomly blacking out,eh?"
"I'm sorry I scared you Yusuke. It's alright, really I'm perfectly fine."
"Kurama this is so not alright! Have ya' looked into the damn mirror recently? You look like you haven't slept in a week and you're as thin as a freakin' skeleton!"
"Look Yusuke…"
"No! That's it Kurama, I'm taking you to Genkai's. Now take that pill, you have a fever!"
"Oh no, not again."-He rolled his eyes as if that was an every-day event.
"Just how long has this been going on?"
"Yusuke there's no need to…"
"How long Kurama?!"
"To be honest I think it started three weeks ago. First I only sensed something quite unusual in my spirit and demon energy. Then this week I started throwing up.
"Throwing up? How many times?"
"Every morning."
"Every damn morning?"
"Yes."
"Oh, man…"
"Then came the fainting and the fever."
"Shit Kurama this is totally not ok. We're going to the old hag's. Right now. Can you walk?"
"I…I'm not sure if I can…"
"Damn Kurama…"
Kurama tried to stand up all the sudden and got really dizzy in the process.
"Whoa, easy there buddy!"
"I apologize."
Yusuke helped him up and let him to lean on his shoulder for backup. He called Botan with his old communication mirror which he always kept in his pocket.
"Hi Yusuke!"-Greeted Botan cheerfully.-"can I help you with something?"
"Yes, Botan could ya' fly here to Kurama's house? We need some help here. This is serious."
"I'm on my way, hold on!"
"Okay Kurama, sit down while we're waiting for her."
Botan arrived in less than fifteen minutes and flew in on her oar through the open window.
"Hello boys!"
"Hi Botan."
"Hi."-Kurama muttered weekly.
"Oh my! What's the wrong with him?"
"That's what we have to find out. But he's so weak he can barely walk…Could ya' fly him to Genkai's?"
"Sure thing, but what about you?"
"I'll work it out. I'll meet you two there in an hour, ok? Now hurry damn it!"
"Alright, alright…my dear is it that serious?"
"Just go already Botan!"
"Right! Come on Kurama!"
"I'm so sorry that I cause you such trouble…"
"Shut up, you'd do the same for us! Now c'mon!"-And they flew out of the window.
…
When Yusuke arrived he was greeted by a worried looking Genkai."
"Hi Dimwit!"
"Old Hag."-He nodded.-"How's Fox boy?"
"Not well. In fact, barely alive according to his spirit energy."
Yusuke peeked into one of Genkai's rooms and was horrified by what he saw. Kurama was barely conscious and really pale.
"Damn he doesn't look good. Can ya' heal him?"
"Whit Yukina's and Botan's help maybe. But Yukina is probably at Kuwabara's right now plus I still haven't figured out what this is."
…
Using her spirit awareness Genkai took a closer look at Kurama's spirit and demon energy. And for the first time in so many years:
Master Genkai freaked out.

So I'm finally back with the next chapter as promised. I'm sorry that it's only now that I update, but I was very ill…I'm still not completely healthy but I'm better. I hope you like it I wonder…what's wrong with Kurama? :P
