Hey there, Im sorry for not having continued this in 7 months. I should have updated sooner, I know. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I hope youre not too mad at me :/
I put this together this afternoon since I thought I should continue this chunk of blob.
Here goes nothing:
Chapter Two: Closed Doors
After Timmy had left Alfea again I called Stella. Being her considerate, dramatic self she revealed to me with how much curtsey she had excused herself from the dinner table merely to go to the restroom and talk to me. The echoes ringing from the tile-padded walls of the room she was in gave our conversation an eerie feeling. As I broke the news to her about Timmy's visit and what he had told me, she immediately suggested meeting me at Red Fountain, to shed light on the situation. After my failed attempts to persuade her to keep this idea in mind for tomorrow, I slipped into a cute jeans skirt and a light pink blouse to accentuate my figure. In case I ran into Sky, this outfit would hopefully remind him of the beautiful moments in our relationship.
I took Kiko with me, and since I didn't feel like transforming and flying over to our Sister School I got on the next bus. It was strange utilizing public transportation after years of being escorted to places on a hover bike the majority of the time, or making use of the wings that defined my identity.
While I was sitting in one of the blue seats at the far end of the bus, I reminisced about my past experiences with the Winx and the Specialists, our adventures and also the grievances we went through together. Whenever one of us had dealt with issues, either pertaining to a member of the group or public enemies, we always found ways to get along again and how to intensify our friendship.
Strangely enough though, my intuition gave me the feeling that this reciprocity would soon face a dead end, and that our unique friendship would be challenged once again.
I got off right in front of Red Fountain College, at a bus stop which had been constructed as a result of the high amount of intimidating, rich soccer moms who were still over protective of their young adolescent sons.
Yes, Sky's mother was one of them.
As I stepped foot on the musky, soft ground I took a second to inhale the fresh air of dusk, a sudden rush of rewarding energy filling me from the inside. I watched the bus drive off into the sunset, repeatedly adjusting my blouse and pinning back my hair with bobby-pins which I had found in my hind pocket. Kiko remained on my shoulder for the time being, his tiny paws clawing my shoulder, sending irregular jolts of pain through my neck. I passed the time waiting on Stella and Brandon teasing the small rabbit, pinching his tiny nose and running my fingers through the stubby mop of hair between his ears. He giggled and chewed around on my finger, enjoying the attention.
It was quite a while until Stella and Brandon came around to meet me, their excuse being horrible traffic and Stella's idle wish to "quickly" visit her favorite boutique and buy a new purse.
I just laughed it off, like everyone did. There was no use in taking personal offense in Stella's often delayed appearances; her love for new clothes and accessories was nearly as bottomless as the love she had for Brandon.
While Brandon went to lock up his bike in the arena, Stella pulled me aside and gave me a long heart-warming hug. Then she pulled two strands of hair from my loose bun and, despite my objection, unbuttoned my blouse to a dangerous level.
"It's just to keep the guys staring after you. If Sky sees that, he'll get jealous. And plus, you look great already, why not kick it up a notch?" she lectured me.
I rolled my eyes and smirked, shrugging her fashion advice off like usual.
"Honey, Sky's got to see what he's missing out on. If he sees his fiancé in the most enchanting light, he might get his brains back together where they belong." She added.
I raised an eyebrow. "You think so?" I asked her.
"Yes. Absolutely." She figured, however with a tone edging beneath her voice, suggesting that she was suppressing a thought. I nudged her shoulder, making her take a dramatic breath.
"Well….you know….I was thinking…."she murmured, folding her hands across her chest.
"Well I don't know, maybe you're boring him." She concluded.
Right as I rolled my eyes, I looked across her shoulder, realizing that Brandon had approached and was waiting behind her.
"I don't think so." He laughed, blatantly entering the conversation.
Stella turned around right away, her eyes growing large with adoration for her incredibly handsome fiancé.
"What do you mean snook-ums?" She replied, an undertone of hopelessly-in-love cheesy attitude seeping through.
Brandon ran his hand through his perfectly styled hair, a nervous smirk showing off his flawless teeth.
"Heh….well. You know. Guys stuff." He answered, trying to laugh his jumpy tone off.
Stella's expression immediately dropped to unexpected irritation and mine probably as well since Kiko developed the sudden need to caress my cheek like he did when I was upset.
"I don't even want to hear what you guys talk about when were not around." I snapped, and then we walked off to the entrance of Red Fountain.
Brandon led us through the impressive building, introducing us to the renovations of the arena as we waited for the elevator to reach the top floor, where he shared a room with Sky. Halfway through our short trip we met Riven, who had finished instruction with the freshmen and was now drawn back into his aggressive, frigid attitude. He remained silent while the elevator dragged on, not making direct eye contact with anyone. He seemed somewhat agitated and surprised to see us, yet he restrained from any sort of interaction as if we were strangers.
As the elevator reached the Specialists dormitory floor Riven hesitated to get off before us. He gestured us to move on before him, leaning on the wall next to the door. As I walked passed him I felt his diligent, menacing stare pierce my back, a feeling of unease rippling across my skin. While I walked on, I heard him murmur "Watch your back." under his breath, really only for me to hear.
For a second I thought to turn around and ask him why he stressed it, but as soon as I looked back he had already advanced into the other direction, his sword loosely clasped in his right hand.
As the three of us reached the door to Brandon and Sky's room, Stella grabbed my arm and studied me with an attentive glare.
"So, what I thought was the following: Sky has been behaving like a complete jerk for the past weeks, and I think that his area of the room might shed some light on why." She suggested. I shrugged off her hand and looked around, trying to catch a reassuring glance from Brandon. I felt uneasy about sneaking into my fiancés bedroom, attempting to find evidence that probably wasn't even there. Brandon, who had noticed my discomfort stepped up to me and tried to comfort me with an encouraging smile.
"I know it's not the most decent thing to do, but maybe there's something tangible that can give us some answers." he said, unlocking the door to his room.
I sighed with a heavy heart. Admitting to myself that my mistrust in Sky had grown to the extent that I went as far as rummaging through his room was a truth I found hard to bear. I justified it with his actions; knowing that if all of this turned out good, we'd find some common ground and telling him about it wouldn't be that bad. I took a deep breath, placed my hand on the doorknob and turned it halfway, only to find that the door was blocked from the other side.
"What the hell…" I murmured under my breath.
Brandon gently pushed me aside and knocked at the door himself. "Who's there?" he said. He tried the knob again, shaking it vigorously, only to find that the door pounded on another heavy object.
As there was no reply he began pounding on the dark wood, repeatedly demanding for whoever was inside to open up. For a moment I thought to have heard mischievous rustling from inside the room, noises that confirmed the presence of someone –or something.
He stepped back from the door as we all heard what sounded like a heavy groan, as if someone had just regained consciousness. The unexpected noise sent a rush of adrenaline through my veins, since I was familiar with the grungy undertone of the voice.
I was certain that it belonged to Sky as a painful "I'm coming…I'm coming" came from inside the room. Dragging, heavy footsteps followed the slightly annoyed utters. As Sky moved whatever he had barricaded himself with to the side, the three of us took a step back, eagerly awaiting the person predominantly occupying our minds. I could sense my fiancés anxiety, I felt as if he was scared of confronting Brandon. I heard him heave a profound sigh, uttering something inaudible under his breath.
While the door cracked open, I crossed my arms in front of my chest and ran through a variety of last minute ideas of how to break to him how upset I was.
As I saw his face, however, all the pain and agitation I held for him currently vanished instantaneously.
The only question which crossed my mind was where he had gotten the blue eye which was pulsating in his face. I gasped as I recognized the droplets of blood which were lingering on his lower lip, and the dark circles under his eyes. Not only did he appear drowsy and deprived of sleep, but as I studied his face his eyes reflected an emptiness which I had to this day only seen in witch's eyes. They were cold, vacant and drained of all energy. We all stood there for a few seconds, me staring at my broken fiancé and Stella anxiously scanning the two of us. Brandon remained silent, his broad shoulders blocking most of my view.
Then, out of nowhere, Sky grabbed hold of the doorknob and slammed the door shut after eyeing me with a lost, hopeless gaze one last time.
