If you're reading this because you follow my Pokemon story, you probably know how much I like to write lyrics to game music. Well... this one started it all. This was my first video game theme-based poem.

One day, long before Metroid Prime 2: Echoes hit store shelves, I found the mp3 file for the game's title theme somewhere on the internet. It was probably from the demo disc, but it seemed a little earlier than that.

I must have listened to it loop for five hours straight.

Repeatedly.

The song was an instant favorite. A remix of the first game's haunting theme, but it hit deeper, and touched upon some spiritual themes... and, it was devastatingly catchy. As a huge Metroid Prime fan waiting eagerly for the long-promised sequel, I felt, just by hearing it, that I suddenly knew what the game was all about.

And I did. That mood persisted from the deserted temple grounds at the beginning of the game, through all the missions Dark Aether and the battles against creepy, disturbing boss creatures infested by the darkness, through the indescribably amazing atmosphere that was the Sanctuary Fortress, and all the way until the credits ran and the curtain fell.

I ultimately enjoyed Metroid Prime, after playing through it two times, because I got to tear the game to shreds with sequence breaking and speed running. And yet, still, to this day, I have never played Echoes any different than it was meant to be played. It has never bored me.

Anyway... I digress.

I wrote this a few weeks before the game came out; it was based only on that title screen theme, and from the small amount of information I let myself learn about the game before release. In fact, most of the lines came to me in a dream, and I spent the next day trying to remember the fading memories and patch up all the blanks. It kinda links into the theme of my Last Words story, and suggests Samus' memories of her childhood with the Chozo.

Enjoy.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

Lonely hunter in your search for light
Find your way through this eternal night!

Dust has scattered and the storm has blown.
Now it's all in pieces, and you stand alone.
The Light and darkness call you to their fight
You hear the voice, it echoes through the night!

All was lost, on that last horizon.
All was buried far beneath the sea.
Still you search, though you're never finding
All the greatness that you once could be!

I see the shadows cover the sky at night.
I see, how they all come from within me!

Lonely hunter in a world so vast.
Time will tell if your resolve will last...

These are dust and echoes from the years you've grown,
By day you dream, by night you walk alone.
But times have changed, you've left behind the light.
And the cries of pain, they echo through the night!

All the visions only fade to shadows
All the memories, they all seem to flee
Echoes lost beyond the vast horizon
All the secrets that you once could see!

The sun has gone below the horizon now,
The dreams that just won't go away, to this day...

Lonely hunter in your search for light,
Fight your way through the eternal night!
