A/N: Well, here's the next chapter. I know I wanted to get this out earlier, but I'm not usually on my computer. However, I do promise to update this story whenever possible AND that I will not abandon this story. Or any of my stories for that matter. I may get a little bit side-tracked and not update for a long time, but I will still continue my stories until they are complete! ALSO! Happy Thanksgiving guys :D I have some pretty creative ideas for this story thankfully even though i have no clue what to do in Shadow Hyrule. But, I will figure it out in due time. And another thing, if you guys like this story so far, then perhaps have friends read it as well? Up to you though~ I know that this story is just beginning. But it will get much better as it progresses I assure you. I will also try to catch any and all mistakes I make with spelling and grammar. I do not have a beta, I'm all on my own here, so if you see any mistakes, let me know. One warning: This chapter has half of Rei's P.o.V and half of Link's. Now, on to reading~
The next morning was chaos as I slept through most of it. I had completely forgotten about helping out with the ranch! Now Link was doing it all by himself! I urgently ran out the door, almost falling off the platform, and jumped off the ladder halfway down and sprinted toward the village before realizing the sun was high in the sky…so Link would be done already. Ugh. Talk about a disappointment for me.
Just as I thought about where he could be, I heard a quiet snort from behind and almost jumped out of my skin. Naturally, it was Epona with Link in the saddle. I sighed in relief and greeted him, "Hiya Link! I'm so sorry for not helping, I woke up late!" He just shook his head smiled before waving off my apology. I grinned sheepishly before remembering about Collin and the promise I made him the day before. "Well..I gotta go. I'll see you next time I run into you!"
I got to the spring in record time, slipping and falling on my backside in the process. Laughter was heard as Beth laughed first and the others joined in. It seemed they were all there: Collin, Talo, Malo, Beth, and even Ilia. I glared at them all before huffing and standing up. Ilia came over and handed me my makeshift sword before pointing to a dummy they had set up at one end of the spring. I nodded and tried a move that I could normally never land: The Jump Attack. I took a running leap before the wooden sword collided with the metal pole in the middle of the dummy's neck.
Well…I landed the hit. Unfortunately, though it proved my accuracy was getting better, it was a bad thing for my arms. Dropping the sword, the others watched as I landed on my back. Ilia was first to laugh this time before she decided to be helpful. This went on for a few hours until the sun started to set.
~A few hours later~
I was just heading back to my treehouse when Mayor Bo called my name. Well this was odd. I walked over to him and waited for him to speak. He stared intently for a moment, as if deciding something in his head. Finally he nodded and gave a big smile, "Alrighty then, I've come to a conclusion! The day after tomorrow you shall accompany Link on his journey to Hyrule Castle! It is absolutely imperative that you get there in a timely manner as well, for the Royal gift cannot be late. Do you understand this Rei?"
I nodded dumbly with wide eyes. Me? Accompany Link? To deliver the royal gift that Rusl had been crafting? That was like a dream come true! Now I can explore a bit! This was freaking awesome, and I was in no way about to pass up a chance like this one. As our agreement was made, Bo bid me goodnight and ambled off toward his house to prepare dinner. I continued on my way to the treehouse and once inside, I did a cartwheel and some flips and exercise to control my immense excitement.
As I slowly exhausted myself, I changed into a pair of shorts and a nighshirt before flopping on my bed and closing my eyes. Tomorrow would definitely be a good day, and the one after that would be even better!
~The Next Day~
Link woke up bright and early the next day, rubbing his eyes with the heels of his hands as he sat up. He would be rounding up the goats again this morning, and maybe get in a little bit of practice with Epona. Hopefully the children wouldn't bother him for a while. He loved them to death, but he need his space once in a while. He wondered what Ilia would be doing today. Maybe she'd help him groom Epona in the spring once he finished up his chores? Only one way to find out.
~An Hour Later~
Once again Epona cleared the small fence, galloping at a medium pace. There was no need for her to gallop at full speed, because the fences were relatively small. The only one she need actual speed to clear was the one leading out of the ranch.
A final lap around the track that Fado had made for Epona with here jumping fences and Link was ready to leave the ranch for the day. With a curt nod to Fado to signal his leave, he nudged Epona's side so as to encourage her to speed up, going over the entry fence and trotting down the small hill that lead away.
The sun was still up in the sky, and the villagers were making use of the sun's natural light. Sera was surprisingly outside her little shop, soaking in the sunlight as her precious cat rubbed against her legs. Hanch was up by the giant tree looking above him at the buzzing beehive. Jaggle sat upon the rock formation across from his house and Uli seemed to be…upset? She was sitting by the streambed with her face in her hands.
Determined to get to the bottom of the woman's obvious distress, Link slipped off Epona and lead her over to Uli. Placing a hand on the kind woman's shoulder, he tilted his head to show he was concerned. The woman smiled through her tears as she explained, "My cradle to use for the baby has been stolen, and I have no idea where it is! Please Link, won't you look for it?"
Poor Uli was so upset, Link couldn't help but nod his head. He pointed to Epona to indicate that he would go to his house real quick to settle her before leading Epona away. He arrived at his treehouse quickly and after making sure Epona was comfortable, he set off back into the village. As he came back, Jaggle called down to him, "Heeyyy! Link! Come on up here!"
Doing as Jaggle bid, he deftly climbed up the vines and joined the other man. Tilting his head to the side in curiosity, Link waited for Jaggle to say something about why he had been called up. Luckily, Jaggle got right to the point. "You see that rock waaayyyyy over there?" he pointed into the distance of the lake, "There's a small monkey holding Uli's baby cradle! I saw you talking to Uli a little earlier and figured I'd let you know."
Link nodded his thanks and quickly hopped over to the roof of Sera's shop and from there to the third rock behind the shop. Bending down, he scooped up a blade of grass and blew on it, whistling the tune to summon his friend, the Hawk. Jerking his head toward the monkey and lifting his arm, the hawk took to the air and aimed straight for the cradle. The monkey seemed to panic and could only chirrup indignantly as the hawk grabbed the cradle and flew back to Link, dropping it into his waiting arms.
Now that the cradle was safely in his arms, he turned and hopped from one rock to another back to Sera's roof and proceeded to jump down, bending his knees to absorb the impact. Within a few minutes he was by Uli's side again, this time handing her the cradle. Uli smiled with heartfelt gratitude and hugged the young man and thanking him profusely before walking back up to her little house.
Figuring he had made good use of this day, he sought out his treehouse and bed. Tomorrow not only would he be once again helping Fado with the ranch, but he would also be heading out to Hyrule Castle with Rei as his companion. And if time permitted, he would spend a small extra amount of time tomorrow with Ilia. A small smile crossed his face as he drifted off to lala land. Tomorrow would be grand...
A/N: Ashurei here again! I know I know my character is named after me, but I was being lazy. On a serious note, I've been thinking ahead and have realized that in this story, I will need more OC characters. I will only select three at the moment until I find the need for more later on in the story, so if you want your OC in this story, PM me the details of that character.
Well, my mom is now suggesting that I get off the computer for a while since I have been on it for hours working on this chapter which I am still not quite satisfied with, but oh well. It happens. Please Read&Review! They are greatly appreciated! Ja Ne!
