I arrived at the gates of Yuuei panting and hunched over grabbing my knees. I had woken up late and had to run to catch the three trains to get to school. I blame the younger kids at the orphanage, they had stayed up late the night before and kept me from getting sleep. Of course they would do that on a school night, noisy demons.

I felt someone touch me on the shoulder. "You okay? You're kind of out of breath."

I jumped forward in surprise and turned to see who was talking to me. The brown haired girl from the entrance exams was looking at me with a warm smile on her face. "Kinda skittish aren't you?"

I rubbed the back of my neck sheepishly and gave a nervous chuckle. "I was late so I thought nobody was around."

She giggled before an unbelieving look covered her face. "Huh?! We're late?! You're joking right?!"

I laughed at her sudden change in demeanor. "Well we're almost late. We've still got a few minutes before class."

"Geez! Don't scare me like that!"

I grinned and started walking towards the school building. She jogged to catch up with me and walked beside me. After she caught up to me, I threw glances at her and took in her appearance.

She had round, brown eyes, they were big but not in a weird way. They were cute and matched her round face. She had shoulder length brown hair with two long locks beside her face. She was short with a slim build and the top of her head barely reached my shoulders. I would be lying if I said this girl wasn't cute.

I realized I was staring at her and I felt my face start to warm. Hoping she didn't notice, I fixed my gaze forward and focused on trying to remove the blush from my face. We silently walked through the halls until we got to the door marked 1-A. I grabbed the handle and was about to open the door when she spoke up.

"You're in this class too?"

I immediately wanted to say something sarcastic, but I pulled back my first instinct. This was the first person to be genuinely nice to me besides the people at the orphanage and I realized I should be nice to her. I let go of the handle and bowed. "Kenta Shimura, Class 1-A. Nice to meet you."

She returned my bow with a smile. "My name is Ochaco Uraraka. I hope we can be friends, Shimura-kun."

I nodded, slid the door to the side, and walked inside the classroom. The rest of our classmates were standing around the desks and talking amongst each other. I counted twenty-one students other than me and of those I knew three by appearance: Uraraka, Midoriya, and the ash blonde guy nicknamed Kacchan.

I internally groaned as I saw the scene before me. Midoriya was watching two of our classmates arguing while shaking. Kacchan currently had his feet on top of his desk and was obviously enjoying himself as he was being reprimanded by a blue haired boy with glasses. He was definitely the type of person that likes to get on people's nerves and/or watch them squirm. Either way, if he was going to be in my class, this was going to be a long school year.

"Oh! It's the plain looking boy. I'm going to go thank him, see ya around Shimura-kun." Uraraka ran past me and started to talk to Midoriya, who was a stammering wreck.

I avoided the two boys arguing and walked past them towards the back of the room. There was an empty desk that was beside a girl with her head laid down on her desk. I could see her shoulders rising and falling steadily, leading me to the assumption that she was asleep. She had long violet hair that had multiple strands sticking out and what looked like black cat ears coming out of the top of her head. I also noticed a similarly colored tail swinging around the bottom of her chair. I sat down in the empty desk next to her, looked towards the front of the classroom, and put my head in the palm of my hand. Closing my eyes, I started to count the seconds until the teacher arrived.

"Oi! You should all be in your desks and be quiet! You're giving me a headache." I heard a voice from a yellow cocoon that was laying on the floor beside the teacher's podium and at the same time I heard the cat girl jump in her desk.

Our teacher. Is a caterpillar?

I heard a zipper unzip and a man that looked to be about in his thirties crawled out of the sleeping bag. He had long black hair and stubble covering his face, both of these giving him the image that he didn't care about his appearance. His eyes were cold and calculating, yet they looked bored.

"What are you staring at? Ah yes, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Shota Aizawa and I'm your homeroom teacher." His monotone voice never changed as he slightly bowed his head in greeting. He reached into his sleeping bag and pulled out some gym uniforms. He threw them towards the closest student. "Put those on and come to the practice field. You have five minutes." With those last words, he turned to the door and walked out without another word.

Then I voiced the one thing the other students couldn't. "I don't know if I want to wear this uniform. He was inside that sleeping bag with them." A nervous chuckle rang out amongst the students.

Exactly five minutes later, we were all standing at the practice field with Aizawa staring at us. "You managed to get here on time. Punctuality is nice, good quality if you want to go anywhere in this field. You." He pointed at me and I stepped forward.

His analytical gaze fixed onto me and I gulped. "Name?"

Aren't you supposed to know these things? You're the teacher. "My name is Kenta Shimura."

"Shimura, hold your hand out." I did as he said and he placed a baseball in my hand. He pointed into the distance. "Throw it."

I wound my arm back and just before the ball left my hand Aizawa blew a whistle. I flinched at the high pitched sound and my grip tightened on the ball. My only coherent thought was 'Where did he materialize that whistle from?'

He let the whistle fall out of his mouth and he shook his head. "Not like that."

I started to get angry. What was he talking about? I was doing what he told me. "What do you mean, Sensei?"

"You're here to become heroes. You will need to use your quirks to do so. Use your quirk to throw the ball."

I nodded and wound the ball back while funneling adrenaline throughout my body. I threw my arm forward and released the ball with all my strength. The ball sailed through the air and landed far away.

I heard a beeping noise and turned towards Aizawa to see him with a radar gun in his hands. Where was he pulling these items from?

He grinned as he looked down at the radar. "314 meters. Not bad Shimura."

I nodded and walked back to my classmates with a grin on my face. Uraraka gave me a thumbs up as I fell in line and Aizawa explained that we would be taking multiple quirk apprehension tests. Someone said that this looked like fun since we could use our quirks (why couldn't they keep their mouth shut.)

Aizawa grinned maliciously (a sight that haunts my brain forever) and was explaining how the person who scored last would be expelled from the hero program.

The faces of my classmates were varying from shock, fear, and indifference. Out of all my classmates faces, Midoriya seemed to be the one most nervous. His fear of expulsion was rightly justified since the volatile nature nature of his quirk, would make it impossible to use it for more than one of these tests.

Kacchan, on the other hand, had a smug grin on his face. He definitely thought that he was the best of the best.

A guy with heterochromic eyes and hair had a uninterested look as if this entire process was a waste of time.

I could see the strange cat girl, looking around with a tired, absentminded look on her face. I don't know how long she stayed up the night before to become that delusional, but she definitely needed a few extra hours of sleep.

What was I feeling at that point? To be perfectly honest, I was starving. I just wanted to finish up these tests and eat. Was it arrogant of me to be focused on food more than these tests? It most definitely was, but I didn't care. I just wanted food.

That was the only major drawback of my quirk. I had to consume insane amounts of food to even make use of my quirk. Since I had woken up late that morning, I didn't have breakfast. As a result, the effort to throw the ball with my quirk caused my stomach to churn. I had never wondered what would happen if I managed to overuse my quirk, but I was sort of worried what would happen if I didn't get food soon.

Ignoring the pain in my stomach, I lined up for the 50 meter dash. Aizawa's whistle blew and I sprinted forward. It clocked me at 3.7 seconds and in second place for that event. First place went to the blue haired boy in glasses who's name was Iida. While third place was taken by the cat girl and oddly enough she seemed as if she still didn't know where she was.

Next was the grip strength test, which I managed to place third in. In first place was a large guy with six arms name Shoji and in second was a guy with big lips named Sato.

The third test was the sustained long jump which I did decently in. I didn't rank top five, but I had done well in the first two tests so I wasn't worried.

The sustained sideways jump was next, I didn't bother to activate my quirk for this test so I barely made top fifteen.

By the next test, my stomach was audibly grumbling, granting me inquisitive glances from my classmates. We were at the fifth test, the pitch. Which I had already done and had no intentions of doing it again.

My classmates were being called up one by one as I stood in the back trying to think of anything but food. Midoriya was called last and he quickly got ready to throw the ball. He threw the ball and it sailed an unspectacular distance.

Midoriya stared down at his hands before Aizawa spoke up. "I took your quirk away. What makes you think you should use your quirk that way?" Aizawa shook his head. "You won't be rescued if you cripple yourself in the field. You will die if you continue to use your quirk that way. You get one more chance. Use your quirk and destroy yourself or don't and fail. Either way you have no potential.

Midoriya stared at the ball in his hand before nodding his head. A fierce fire was alight behind his eyes as he wound his arm back and threw the ball. Air billowed off of him as the ball left his palm and the ball sailed into the distance.

He turned back towards Aizawa showing off only one swollen finger. A pained smile was across his face. "I can still move, Sensei."

He managed to compensate for his weakness?! What the heck?! Who is this guy?!

The next thing I knew, a loud yell sounded among the impressed gasps. "Oi, Deku! You lied to me!" Bakugo rushed by me with explosions going off in his hands. "Are you underestimating me?! Take me seriously, Deku!"

Before I could think, my body was moving to intercept Bakugo. I quickly passed Bakugo and put my body between him and Midoriya. At first, Bakugo looked surprised but his face contorted in rage as he continued to come toward me. "This is between me and Deku. Move you fucking Extra!"

I closed my eyes and braced myself for the hit, but it never came. I opened my eyes and Bakugo stood there restrained by some sort of fabric, obviously struggling with everything he had.

"Damn it, you're giving me dry eye. Calm yourself before you suffer consequences, Bakugo."

I heard Midoriya give a sigh of relief and I turned to see if he was okay. He was still clutching his broken finger but otherwise he was fine. "T-Thank you, Shimura-san."

I had honestly moved before I could think. I didn't know what was going on till it happened. Since I had nothing I could say, I shrugged indifferently. "That's what a hero does right? I'm just doing what I'm training for."

By the end of the rest of the tests, I had managed to get ranked fourth out of our class. While Midoriya was in dead last. I felt bad for him, until Aizawa revealed that he was wanting to see the best results from the class and no one would be expelled (he was a manipulator like that.) As much as that fact made me mad, it was nothing compared to the hunger I was experiencing.

Once it was lunch period, I dashed out of the classroom and made for the cafeteria. I bought food and sat down at a corner table that people probably wouldn't want to sit at and disturb my feasting. I was about to dig into a spicy bread bun when I heard a flat voice. "Oh, it's Nosebleed."

The cat girl from my class walked into my vision. I was so hungry, I ignored her and went to eating my food. She apparently didn't care how rude this was and went ahead and sat across from me. Sitting there without asking was kind of rude, but between my own rudeness and my hunger I didn't care if she sat there. We sat there in complete silence as we ate our lunch.

I finished my food before she did despite me having more and I started to crumple the plastic bread wrapping. I found the crackling sound to be soothing for some reason but apparently my lunch partner didn't. She didn't say anything about being annoyed but her furrowed brow basically said it all. I stopped crumpling the wrapper and her face loosened back to it's regular flat expression.

Realizing my fun was making her anxious, I put down the wrapper and took in her appearance.

I wasn't paying attention to her earlier but I now realized she was really beautiful. Her eyes were a silvery grey and had a bored, tired look which matched her expression way too well. Her violet no longer had strands sticking out, leading me to believe either she or one of the other girls fixed her hair. She had regular human ears on the sides of her head, as well as the cat ears on top which was curious. Did she only hear through one set or did she hear through both?

"You're staring, Nosebleed." She said flatly.

Where was she getting this nickname from? Wait! She's the girl from the entrance exam. The one that pointed out I was bleeding.

My face suddenly became hot. "I-I wasn't staring! And my name isn't Nosebleed."

"What is it then?"

"You really thought Nosebleed was my name?!"

"No, I didn't know what else to call you. You took that out of context."

Why am I starting to get angry? Keep calm.

We stared at eachother until she tilted her head. "Are you going to tell me or not?"

I crossed my arms. "Tell you what?"

"Your name." She said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

I sighed in exasperation and bowed my head forward slightly. "Shimura. Kenta Shimura."

I sat there waiting for her to introduce herself, but she just kept her gaze on me. She still had the flat look on her face but her eyes no longer looked bored. They were staring at me trying to absorb every detail about me, or maybe I was looking into that too much.

"What's your quirk?" She asked with zero enthusiasm.

This girl's flat tone was very- off putting. I wasn't sure whether she was genuinely interested or if she was just asking to ask. I was still curious about her name since I didn't catch it earlier, so I proposed a trade. "I'll tell you about my quirk, if you tell me your name."

She blinked a few times before nodding, like the offer was something super serious. "Ami Yamazaki."

"Nice to meet you Yamazaki-san. As per our agreement, my quirk is Regeneration. It allows me to convert excess fat cells into proteins that can heal me at rapid rates."

"Your quirk is Regeneration, but the quirk you used earlier was a speed and strength amplifier. Isn't your quirk sort of named badly?"

I chuckled nervously, I had known this fact for a long time but I never had been able to come up with a better name for it. "I'm not sure how to describe it scientifically but I'm able to alter cell creation in my body. As a result, I can mass produce adrenaline, which gives me the strength and speed you saw earlier."

"Hmm." She said before going back to her lunch. I facepalmed internally.

She's really good at killing a conversation isn't she? Why did she even sit over here?

The rest of lunch period I sat at the table watching the quirky (no pun intended) individuals coming through the cafeteria. I eventually got bored, stood up and made to leave for the classroom. "Well, I'm going back to class. Nice to meet you, Yamazaki-san."

She nodded and kept her gaze on her lunch. "Just call me Ami-chan. Yamazaki-san is too long, and it's my mother's name, so just call me Ami-chan."

Heat immediately rose to my face, before I stammered out. "S-S-Sorry I can't call you that. That's way too embarrassing."

She shrugged in indifference, and I left, feeling very embarrassed.

What's her deal? That's super embarrassing to call someone, much less someone you met that day. Even much less a beautiful girl.

I sat next to her in class so I spent the whole day in an awkward state. I ran out of the classroom once the final bell rang and made it to the gate before I was stopped by Uraraka. "Hey Shimura-kun!"

I stopped in my tracks and turned to see her. "Wasn't today great?" She said, her face bubbling with energy.

I wasn't sure how she had so much energy, but I didn't mind it. "Yeah I guess it was fine."

"What's with that weak response, Shimura-kun?"

"I'm fine, I'm just tired."

She tilted her head. "Are you headed home?"

"I guess so, I don't really have anything else to do."

"Well before you do, could we exchange numbers?"

I was still sort of out of it. "Huh, oh sure."

It wasn't until she was waving goodbye and running the opposite direction that I realized something.

I just had a cute girl ask me for my contact info. What the heck?!

When I got back to the orphanage, I took a cold shower to snap my head back into focus. I still couldn't believe how action packed my first day was. After my shower, I ate dinner with the rest of the children then I headed off to bed.

"Kenta-oneechan!" I heard a small voice yell from under my bunk. I audibly groaned and sat up in my bunk. A pair of saucer like green eyes stared up at me. They belonged to a six year old girl with blonde hair done up in pigtails.

"What is it, Kyou? I'm trying to get some sleep."

She pouted. "It's only six o'clock, Kenta-oneechan. You never play with us anymore."

I swung my feet over the side of my bunk and glared at her. "I used play with you guys all the time. The reason I can't play with you lately because school is taking up my time."

She started to tear up and I broke down in a sigh. "I'll tell you what, Kyou. I'll play one game then I'm going to bed."

Her face lit up and she jumped up and down in excitement. "Yay!"

After I was done playing with the kids, I was rummaging through my bag, looking for my homework and I found a folded piece of paper. I opened the paper and on it was a small picture of a cat and a phone number. I realized that it was from Yamazaki, most likely.

Why did she give me her phone number and how did she get that note in my bag with out me noticing in the first place?

I sighed and entered it into my phone. I was too tired to deal with everything that happened today. I'd deal with everything tomorrow.
