The blonde was panting wildly as Roy walked back over to Ed's bed, and he laid him onto his bed. There was something that made the raven haired officer want to cry. His onyx eyes locked on with the pale eyelids of Edward, and Riza rested her hand on Roy's beige over coat, almost feeling his intense pain.
Roy didn't know how to take this all in, and the blonde continued a string of pants and coughs. After a while of waiting for Ed to wake up again, Riza sat in the black headed man's lap, and tears slipped out of her eyes, burning her tanned skin. Her brown eyes looked back at the male's and she shoved her head into Roy's chest, making him jump in surprise.
He watched Riza's body shake from her whimpers, and he pulled her body closer to his. He rubbed her back in soothing, circular motions, trying his hardest to calm her. Roy had an onslaught of questions come to his mind like,' Where was Alphonse, and how long had Ed been dealing with this? Could he have stopped this? Could he, himself have done something to help the young, ill male in this death bed?'
Roy felt himself shift uncomfortably at the thought of it partially being his fault. Yet now, there was nothing he could do but sit there and watch the blonde die.
Ed's eyes fluttered open, revealing everything to be blurry and have a darker color to it than it should have had. He let his eyes wander around the room, trying to remember what all had happened. It all started to come back slowly, and he felt himself trying to sit up, again, only making him dizzy. He was about to fall back when Roy's free arm wrapped around Ed and Roy pulled him into his chest. The blonde coughed again and started to dry heave, but when he felt that same warm liquid from earlier starting to come up, he pulled away from Mustang and grabbed his bucket.
Much to Roy's horror, he watched as Ed coughed up more and more blood. He shook at Riza, her eyes wide as she too, stared at the crimson liquid coming from Ed's mouth. His lips were stained red and after coughing up a lot of blood, he fell backwards, his chest barely rising and falling. His eyelids were halfway open, revealing his blank state of eyes. The happy honey colored eyes that used to shine with happiness had disappeared and had been replaced with a sullen, dull look, almost seemingly dead and cold. "Ed, Ed are you alright," Roy begged, his voice shaking.
When the male didn't respond, Roy tried again. He put his left hand on Ed's chest, feeling nothing from his lungs. The raven head went into panic, and he lifted Riza from his legs, and placed her in the chair. Roy placed his pointing finger and middle finger on Ed's throat, right where you would find the pulse, nothing. Roy's breathing increased, not knowing what to do, he screamed. "ALPHONSE!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Trisha continued to stroke her beloved sons hair and let him mourn into her chest. "ALPHONSE," a familiar voice screeched.
Al's head jolted up, already figuring out something was wrong with Edward. "I'm sorry mom, but I have to go!"
Al bolted up, and ran towards his new home, his feet carrying him as fast as they could through the grassy cemetery. His heart was racing, and his eyes were wide with fear. "WINRY, AUNT PINAKO, IT'S ED! COME QUICKLY," Al screamed.
Al thrusted his door open, his eyes filled with tears, and he stared at his brother's body. His chest wasn't moving, and there was Roy, holding Ed close to him. Riza was still sitting in the chair, afraid to move, or even breathe for that matter. Roy looked over at Al, his eyes glazed over in fear and tears. "Al… he's not breathing… or moving… and there's no pulse…"
"BROTHER!"
Al ran over to them, and he took his brother into his arms, more tears burning at his skin. "Brother… don't leave me here alone… You can't leave me here alone…"
The younger brother began to tap at Ed's cheek, trying to get Ed to wake up, to snap out of his unconsciousness. With one violent shake from Al, Ed's eyes fluttered open a little more. His breathing came back, but barely, and his pulse returned. "A-Alphonse… Listen to-to me… I want- I want you to lis-listen to me…," Edward gasped to catch his breath, than tried to continue when Winry burst through the door, soaked, Pinako following on her heels. "WHERE'S ED, HOW'S HE DOING," Winry screamed, more than terror flooding her voice.
She looked around the room. Roy was to the left of Al, and Riza was sitting in a chair behind both of them. Much to the young girl's horror, Ed was lying in Al's arms. His thin frame was being confined closely to the younger brother's chest, and he was barely moving. "E-ed… ward…"
Winry's voice went hoarse, and a tear rolled out of her left eye as she squeezed them shut. Her right hand moved up to her chest and she squeezed her beige shirt, right above her heart. She slowly made her way over to Ed and she opened her eyes, showing the red from tears, and clenching them closed so
tight that it hurt. "Winry, now you and I both know Edward won't give in with-out some sort of fight," Pinako said soothingly.
She stood behind the girl and watched quietly as Winry ran over beside Alphonse and Edward. She gently touched his heated face with her right hand, and bit her lip. "Al, put him on the bed and get a wet cloth. He's burning up…"
Al nodded and laid Ed down carefully, making sure not to hurt him. Unaware of what was about to take place, Al did exactly as commanded and returned a moment later with a cold rag in his hand. His eyes went wide and the fabric slid out of his hands and tears began to glaze his eyes. "Bro-brother…"
The younger Elric's heart beat picked up and his stomach twisted. His eyes fixed themselves on a blood covered Edward, and he saw everyone's tears. "… And tell Al, he was the best brother ever… I'm gonna' miss you-"
Edward's eyes fluttered closed and Roy's eyes went wide. He put his hand on the blonde's bare chest, no breathing. He laid his head on the boy's heart, no beating. It was now official. The Fullmetal Alchemist was dead, and from the same disease that killed his mother. It was all over now, and there was no going back. At least, Al and Ed both had all of their body parts back. "Brother!"
Al dropped the white rag and silver tears fell to the floor as he ran and threw himself on his brother's bed. His arms wrapped around his brother's thin waist and he cried. Tears ran down his soft face and onto Ed's dead form. Was he really the only living Elric now besides Envy? Of course he was, because even Envy wasn't an actual Elric.
