Kagome hadn't been able to look at Sesshomaru after the occurrence in the woods; but he hadn't had any issues watching her like a predator watches their prey. Golden eyes stared at the lithe little figure digging through her bag for dinner. The human had so many interesting things in that bad of hers, even the bag was fascinating. Her black hair fell over her shoulder as a gust of wind came from behind her, causing her to look up as she attempted to pull her hair into a tail.
Blue met gold and a pretty shade of pink colored her cheeks as a small smirk flirted with Sesshomaru's lips. Averting her gaze, she pulled her music from her bag and a small packet of jerky.
Settling against a tree, she put her earphones in and sighed, 'When were the others going to return? Why did they leave her to 'watch' Sesshomaru?'
The male in question watches as the woman placed some odd contraption in her ears. Her blue eyes closed and a small tune started to slip from her lips. Curiosity got the better of him, and he found himself next to her, pulling one of the little shapes out of her ear.
Kagome gasped, startling at the close contact and unexpected touch. "Sesshomaru, what do you need?"
"What is this contraption you wear, Miko?" Golden eyes narrowed at the ear-bud.
"It's music…" She paused. "Do you want to listen?" She lightly pulled the earpiece out of his grasp and turned the volume down. She might not like him, but she didn't want her headphones destroyed either.
'Hn." He nodded, allowing her to place the bud in his slightly pointed ear. Her fingers brushed against his soft hair, causing a shiver to slide through both of them.
Not wanting to startle him with too great of a change in music, she clicked on a soft piece by Utada Hikaru. Her eyes watched as his went wide momentarily and he glanced her way. A small smile formed on her lips at his childish response.
Soon however, the music switched, and Sesshomaru looked at her curiosly. "What language is this?" He shifted slightly and Kagome was unable to tell if he liked it or not.
"It's called English. It is one of the most spoken languages in my time." She clicked onto the next song quietly watching him out of the corner of her eyes. He didn't seem to dislike it too much, or maybe he was just attempting to decode the language.
"Miko, what does this song mean b, 'I'd like to check you for….ticks'? It seems to repeat the phrase quite often." He shifted enough to catch her gaze as he waited for an answer.
Kagome stilled, she had thought that English would be a safe bet since she doubted he had learned it. But apparently he had heard that phrase enough to wonder its meaning. Darn, intelligent yōkai.
"Well," She began, trying to come up with a clever reply. One that would keep things from becoming awkward. "A tick is a bug like thing that sucks blood…and he is just saying he'd like to make sure she has none on her…"
Sesshomaru seemed to consider it. "Is this a human mating ritual?" He pulled the ear-bud out and listened as her heart rate increased and her cheeks flushed.
"No." She shook her head, feeling her face go aflame. She knew this wasn't going smoothly, and the fact that she had just avoided completely answering his unspoken, 'what is it?' meant she was going to be questioned once more.
"What does the…'male' mean by this phrase then, Miko." He was not buying it. He might have been a yōkai and from the past, but he was not a youngster or a pup, and by the way she was reacting, there was definitely more to this than she let on. Maybe…
"It is just him being….kind?" She cringed…not going well at all. But the yōkai kept creeping closer and she could feel his breath falling on her ear as he leaned down with a small smirk.
"This Sesshomaru would like to check you for…ticks, Miko." The golden eyes sparkled with humor. He had understood!
The red that was on her cheeks spread to her ears as a small toothy grin slipped from Sesshomaru. Why did he not smile more?

Thank you to those who reviewed last. I know that it has been a long time since I added to this...I guess that is because I have put a lot of stories on the back burner in order to make time for the main ones I am working on. Please let me know what you think of this. :)
