Wow! Thank you to anyone whose made it to chapter 2! I hope you continue to enjoy my fanfic and please leave comments (constructive criticism, praise, thoughts...anything is nice).
It was the day of the long awaited factory tour and the lucky winners stood lined up facing the imposing iron gate. Veruca made sure to stand as far from the German boy as possible. She knew he was probably nice, he looked harmless enough and probably just a little older than herself (she was 15), but she couldn't help the anxiety that she felt looking at him, let alone the idea of being near him.
She wasn't fat. But that didn't stop the girls at school from telling her that she was. She was rich, she would tell herself, so of course she was well fed, but she wasn't fat. The other girls must just be jealous of her wealth, she would reassure herself before asking her dad for a new pet. The girls at her school were cunning, never being so mean to her that she wouldn't invite them over to her mansion and buy them extravagant gifts. But there was one thing that they did that had truly messed up Veruca's way of thinking. There was one really obese teacher at Veruca's preppy school that her friends liked to joke must be Veruca's real mother, and whenever the girls fantasized about boys, they would always insist that the one fat boy in their grade was her perfect match.
Her friends always told her that their jokes were all in good fun, but Veruca had developed a very real fear of fat people. She hated that about herself, because she knew how terrible it sounded to say out loud, but she couldn't control it.
When, the gates had been opened and everyone was inside, Wonka prompted everyone to introduce themselves to one another. The German boy eventually made his way over to Veruca and, without smiling or meeting her eye, he held out his meaty hand and mumbled an introduction. Grasping his hand, Veruca thought she might throw up, and she could just imagine how her friends would taunt her if they knew she had even spoken with Augustus, but she introduced herself with a clear and steady voice, despite not being able to meet his gaze either.
Violet addressed each person with the authority and sense of purpose that her mother had instilled in her at a young age. She thought the little boy was quite cute because he smiled at her and told her she looked strong.
Mike didn't like introductions much. He didn't like introductions because people always assumed he was dumb and disrespectful. He figured the people around him were okay, but he didn't like the look Mr. Wonka was giving him. He was pretty tall for a sixteen year-old, very skinny and wore all black, so he knew he gave off a certain distrustful look. Still, he didn't like introductions.
Charlie was just so excited to be in the factory with his grandpa. Wonka seemed so cool and that pretty girl, Violet, seemed really nice.
