Chapter 2: It's Raining Canines

[On Earth everything was peaceful. People were carrying on with their joyous lives. Makin their way to the junkyard was Chris and Maria Robotnik]
Chris: Thanks for coming with me Maria. I really appreciate it.
Maria (R): Anytime Chris, now what parts are we going to need for our latest creation?
Chris: We'll know as soon as we get there.
[Suddenly they heard an alarm around the corner]
Maria (R): A robbery?
Chris: Let's go check it out.
[Chris and Maria (R) went to go see what the noise was all about and they spotted anthro dogs robbing a pet shop]
Chris: Wha? Who are those guys?
Maria (R): I don't know. They don't look familiar to me. And whatever they're doing, it can't be good.
Chris: Looks like they're just stealing food. They must be hungry.
Maria (R): I can understand the situation, but there are other animals besides them.
[A few of the canomutants began loading up some trucks with the food]
Chris: Huh?
[He noticed that one of the canomutants was robbing some of the jewelry stores nearby. Maria (R) also noticed but she saw that one of them picked up a very unusually large white gemstone]
Maria (R): Chris, look. It's a Chaos Emerald!
[Chris took a closer look and saw it too]
Chris: You're right we have to stop them!
[Just as they were about to do something two Canomutants came up from behind them and grabbed them]
Canomutant: Well, well, well, looky what we have here. A couple of nosy trespassers!
[Chris and Maria (R) struggled to get away as the two Canomutants brought them to their boss]
Chris: Let us go!
Maria (R): You can't do this!
Spot: So, we've got two nosy brats snooping around in our business, don't we?
Chris: You better watch who you're calling brats, you overgrown fleabag!
Maria (R): Yeah and whatever you plan to do with those gems you might as well give up, because there's no way you're going to get away this!
Spot: Oh? And just what are you gonna do about it? You're both all tied up. And if you know what's good for you, you'll keep your mouths shut! Or else you'll suffer dire consequences! Now, these "gems" you speak of seem to possess some kind of power. If we can harness this power, we can use it for our own purposes!
Chris: (scoffs) Good luck with that!
Maria (R): Yeah and besides I've endured things that were worst then this!
Spot: I've had just about enough of your yap! Fluffy, gag them!
Fluffy: Sure thing! My pleasure!
[He gets duct tape and gags them both]
Shadow's Voice: Picking on innocent bystanders? Have you dogs no shame?
[Suddenly Shadow landed in front of the canomutants]
Fluffy and Spot: (simultaneously) What the?!
Fluffy: Who the heck are you? You don't look familiar to me.
Spot: And just what are you gonna do? You're just a hedgehog wearing sneakers!
Shadow: I'm not just any hedgehog. I'm Shadow the Hedgehog. And if you don't let those two go right now, I'll personally drag you through the depths of hell and back!
Fluffy: Oooh! I'm so scared! I'm wetting my pants! And I'm not even wearing pants!
Spot: You made a big mistake showing your face around here! I'll show you not to interfere with us! Troopers, get him!
[Hordes of canomutants with blasters surround Shadow]
Canomutant #1: We're gonna blast you into the next century, hedgehog!
Canomutant #2: Say goodnight!
Shadow: Dumb mutts. You asked for it! Chaos Spear!
[Shadow launched multiple energy spears at the canomutants weapons destroying them in the process, then he dashed at the ones on his left at incredible speed and began punching and kicking them, knocking them out with one hit]
Fluffy and Spot: HUH!?
Fluffy: What the?!
Spot: I don't…
Fluffy: But how?
Spot: He…
[Shadow looked at them and was real serious]
Shadow: Last warning, let them go now!
[Fluffy and Spot angrily growled at Shadow]
Fluffy: You may have been able to handle a few of our troops! But can you handle this?
[Fluffy and Spot take out their blasters]
Shadow: Do you seriously think that's going to make a difference?
[Fluffy and Spot both tremble with fear while holding their blasters]
Fluffy: Umm… Spot?
Spot: Yeah?
Fluffy: I know you're in charge and all. But I think we should run!
Spot: You know? For once I agree. We should! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
[The two canomutants drop their weapons and ran like sissies while screaming in horror]
Shadow: Pathetic.
[Shadow untied Chris and Maria (R) as they took the tape off]
Maria (R): Agh! Thanks Shadow, if only we didn't get caught we could have taken them.
Chris: Yeah, if they saw your Lunar Glaive they would have ran screaming.
Maria (R): Yeah. Too bad I left it at home.
Shadow: Well you two should be more careful. I'm just glad you weren't hurt.
Maria (R): Shadow, you don't have to keep protecting me, I am fully capable of taking care of myself in a fight.
Chris: True, but you know how Shadow is.
Voice: You guys must be close then.
[Shadow, Chris, and Maria (R) looked behind them and saw a girl with short blond hair, a green shirt, brown shoes, and short socks; she almost looked identical to Maria (R). But the shocking thing was that she was with four anthropomorphic dogs, one was a golden retriever, one was a collie, one was a Doberman and the last one was a husky]
Shadow: Uh, who are you?
Clarissa: I'm Clarissa, Clarissa Carbone and these are my friends the Road Rovers. Go ahead and say hi everyone!
Hunter: What's up? Nice to meet you. The name is Hunter. Leader of the Road Rovers.
Colleen: How you do? I'm Colleen.
Exile: My name is Exilo Mikhailovich SanHusky.
Blitz: I'm Blitz.
Maria (R): The pleasure is ours. I'm Maria Robotnik, this is Christopher Thorndyke.
Chris: But everyone calls me Chris.
Maria (R): And this my good friend Shadow.
[Shadow grabbed the Chaos Emerald]
Shadow: Sorry about that, had to make sure this was in safe hands.
Clarissa: What's so special about that big gemstone anyway?
Maria (R): That is no ordinary gemstone. That's a Chaos Emerald.
[Clarissa and the Rovers looked at her confused]
Hunter: Chaos Emerald, huh? Cool.
Colleen: So what exactly is a Chaos Emerald if you don't mind me asking?
Chris: A Chaos Emerald is an artifact from a planet known as Mobius that wields untold power. And just one these alone could power up a planet twice the size of the Earth.
Maria (R): It can even turn your very thoughts into power.
Clarissa: Wow and just how many are there?
Shadow: There are seven in total, and each come in different colors.
Hunter: I can imagine it must be hard keeping watch of these things.
Exile: And I'm having suspicion that even our own enemies may want these for own purposes!
Colleen: Your suspicions serve you well, Exile. I bet Parvo, or even Geist would desire these Chaos Emeralds to rule or even destroy both worlds. When it comes to Geist, it's never good news.
Maria (R): Who's Geist?
Clarissa: He's Blitz's crazy older twin brother.
Chris: How bad can your brother be?
[Blitz looks down with a feeling of tension and unease. But then he gains the strength to speak up]
Blitz: Geist… He's a psychopath. A monster. He's killed a lot of innocent people in the past. He hates humans, and he hates me as well. Geist will do anything to exact his revenge on all of humanity, and anybody who stands in his way.
Exile: Da. Geist is a very dangerous foe. He is not to be underestimated.
Maria (R): Wow. A grudge against humans and you, that's rough.
Shadow: Vengeance is the poison that rots a person from within.
Clarissa: What?
Chris: Shadow had a hatred for humans because Maria almost died on the ARK fifty years ago.
[The Rovers were shocked when they heard that, which makes Blitz look at Shadow]
Blitz: So… I take it you were like my brother at one point in your life, huh?
Shadow: In a way, Maria was like the only family I had. But I had someone set me straight and helped me remember what I was meant for.
Chris: I had to, it wouldn't have made Maria happy.
Maria (R): But at least you made up for it, unlike my grandfather.
Shadow: He was a great man, but if he was here now, he would be happy to see you again.
Maria (R): I know, I still miss him.
Blitz: Sounds like you've had quite a history.
Shadow: We have, but we've learned to let go of the past and move on with our lives.
Maria (R): Yeah, we have to make the most of it with the time we have.
Clarissa: Well said. We better get back to HQ; the Professor will need to hear about this.
Chris: Wait! Let us come with you. We know more about these Chaos Emeralds than anyone on the face of the Earth.
Clarissa: I don't know if we can do that.
Shadow: Why not? We have a common enemy don't we?
Hunter: What do you think guys?
Colleen: Well, if these people know more about the chaos emeralds than we do, then I think it would be a wise decision to have them come along.
Exile: Da. We need to know what we're dealing with. Or we may not stand a chance.
Shag: Rah…
Shadow: Who is that?
Clarissa: Oh this is Shag, he's a sheep dog.
Maria: Why isn't he like the other Rovers?
Clarissa: He went through the transdogmafier but for some reason he didn't go through the complete transformation so he's stuck between cano-sapien and a normal dog.
Chris: Impressive. So what can you guys do?
Clarissa: Hunter here is super-fast, Colleen is an expert in martial arts, Exile is super strong and he heat vision, night vision, and freeze vision, Blitz has razor sharp teeth and claws can cut through anything, and Shag is like our mobile storage system, he can store anything in his fur, and I mean anything.
Shadow: How does that work?
[Clarissa and the Rovers shrugged]
Maria (R): Anyway, how are we gonna get to your guy's headquarters?
Colleen: That's simple, we can all hitch a ride in the Sky Rover.
Maria (R): The what?
Clarissa: It's a very fun ride. Let us show you.
[Chris, Maria (R), and Shadow followed them and see a plane that had the face of a dog painted on it]
Chris: This kind of reminds me of the Blue Typhoon.
[The Road Rovers look at him confused but shrugged it off. And so, they brought Chris, Maria (R), and Shadow back to their underground HQ in the Sky Rover]
Shadow: So this is your base, reminds me a bit of the GUN Base
Hunter: G.U.N.?
Maria (R): The Guardian Units of Nations. They're a military organization that fights for world peace.
Hunter: Cool! And they're from your world?
Chris: Actually their here on Earth.
Colleen: Really? How come we've never heard of it until now?
Shadow: They try to keep a low profile unless there's a major crisis.
Hunter: Hmmm… No wonder we haven't been able to pick them up on our satellites or radars. The master usually keeps track of any suspicious activity that goes on in our world.
Maria (R): Who is your master anyway?
Colleen: Our master is a human named Professor William Shepherd.
Hunter: That's right. He was the man who created us. In many ways, he's like a father to us all.
Colleen: However, we want to caution you that his appearance may seem a little strange. He has white hair and glowing eyes.
Hunter: We believe that his condition is due to a horrible accident that happened before he brought us together as a team. So please, don't be surprised if his appearance might be a little… Well… Strange.
Maria (R): I've seen plenty of strange things, I can handle this.
Chris: (Thinking) {William Shepard. I've heard that name somewhere.}
Exile: Well, okay. Then let us introduce you to him.
Hunter: This way.
[And so, the Road Rovers bring Chris, Maria (R), and Shadow to the main hall, where the door opens, shinning a strange light. And then a strange looking middle aged man emerges from the light. He is revealed to have long white hair and glowing eyes]
Shepherd: Greetings. And welcome to Road Rover HQ. I am Professor Shepherd. But the Road Rovers refer to me as the "Master". Now, who might you three be?
Chris: I am Christopher Thorndyke, sir. But everyone calls me Chris.
Maria (R): I am Maria Robotnik sir, I'm the lone survivor of the Space Colony Ark.
Shadow: I am Shadow, Shadow the Hedgehog, top agent of G.U.N.
Shepherd: Hmmm… Interesting. So, I take it you three are not from around here. Are you? Exactly what is this "Space Colony Ark" and "G.U.N" that you speak of?
Maria (R): G.U.N is the Guardian Units of Nation that work undercover to keep the world safe and the Space Colony Ark is the first Bernal Sphere to be sent into orbit.
Shadow: It's like a giant satellite, but with a very powerful cannon.
[Shepard was shocked]
Shepherd: Amazing…
Blitz: Whoa? Even more powerful than our satellite?
Shadow: Is your satellite powerful enough to destroy half the moon or a techno-organic comet that is capable of destroying a planet the size of this one?
Clarissa: I don't think so. Can our satellite do something like that?
Colleen: Somehow, I don't think so. From what I remember, our satellite is powerful enough to destroy whole cities. But I don't think it's powerful enough to destroy moons or entire planets.
Maria (R): I don't think the Eclipse Cannon is powerful enough to destroy the planet, but I doubt not even that Blitz's brother would be crazy to try it.
Blitz: I don't know about that. My brother is insane. He's not the kind of person who would think first before doing something so terrible. And given how much he hates humans, I think he'd do anything to wipe them off the face of the Earth.
Exile: You'd think he'd go that far, comrade?
Blitz: Yes. I'm afraid so…
Chris: That's horrible.
Maria (R): You got that right.
Hunter: Not to mention that monster has killed many people without mercy.
Exile: And he has killed canomutants as well. We normally don't kill canomutants because they are merely slaves under Parvo's control.
Colleen: Yes. The canomutants are actually innocent. They have no will to do other than what they're told to do. We usually give them homes after we subdue them.
Hunter: Right. But right now we have more pressing matters at hand.
Shadow: Right. Let's get to work.
Shepherd: That's right. And just now, our satellites have picked up some suspicious activity happening in Tokyo, Japan.
Clarissa: Sounds serious, let's check it out.
[As they were about to leave a anthro akita with a very unique Road Rover outfit appeared and he was wielding a Katana]
Maria (R): Who is that?
Clarissa: Oh this is Tsunami. Tsunami, say hello to our new friends Shadow, Chris, and Maria.
[Tsunami bows]
Tsunami: Konnichiwa. Watashi wa Tsunami des.
Maria (R): It's great to meet you.
Shadow: So are you coming with us?
[Tsunami nods]
Tsunami: Hai. Japan is my home country. And I figured you might need my help on this mission.
Chris: That'll be great.
Clarissa: Yeah, let's hit the road rovers!
[The Rovers, Chris, Maria (R), Clarissa, and Shadow head to the Sky Rover and take off for Japan. Meanwhile in the darkest parts of Tokyo Drago reappeared]
Drago: Well that was entertaining. Now let's see where do I start looking?
[He noticed a large anthro poodle wearing an orange leotard wait for his buddies to show up]
Snuggles: Where are they?
[Drago smirked evilly]
Drago: Hey pal, what's going on?
Snuggles: Sacre bleu! Who the heck are you, wolf?
Drago: Drago, Drago Wolf. And who might you be, if you don't mind me asking.
Snuggles: I'm Snuggles!
Drago: Snuggles? Heh! That's a funny name!
Snuggles: You dare mock my name?
[Snuggles clutches his fist]
Drago: Calm down there, my 7 foot tall orange spandex wearing friend. There's no need to get all fussy about your name although I do find it hilarious.
Snuggles: Just what are you doing here anyway? And where did you come from?
Drago: Long story how about I tell you once you're friends arrive? Is that them?
[Snuggles looks behind him and see Spot, Fluffy and the canomutants arrive, all shaking like maracas. Snuggles notices them trembling]
Snuggles: Que faites-vous?! What's with you? And why are you shaking?
Drago: Looks like they have had an encounter with Shadow the Hedgehog, am I right?
Fluffy: (panicky) Duuuhhh… Y…Y…Y… Yeah! He… He was tough! He wasted half our troops without even cracking a sweat!
Spot: (panicky) N… N… N… No kidding! H… H… He was quite powerful! W… W… We C… C… Clearly underestimated him!
Fluffy: And we had to go running for our lives!
Spot: We knew we had no chance against him!
Snuggles: (annoyed) And you both were running from a hedgehog?
Fluffy and Spot: (simultaneously) Yes!
Snuggles: (face palms) You fuels!
Drago: (thinking) {It's like being around Antoine} He isn't no ordinary hedgehog, Snuggles. Shadow is the Ultimate Lifeform, and one of the toughest fighters known throughout the south galaxy, these guys are lucky to be alive.
Snuggles: Ultimate life form?!
Fluffy and Spot: (simultaneously) Ultimate life form?!
Snuggles: You mean he's a god?! C'est fou! This is madness! How can a hedgehog be so powerful?! It doesn't make sense!
Drago: He's not a god you dolts! Shadow is immortal, 50 years ago he was created from the blood of a galactic overlord known as Black Doom, leader of the Black Arms, a race of ruthless aliens.
Fluffy: Immortal? Then… Then that means he can't die!
Spot: And he was created? Sounds like a regular Frankenstein! Only much worse!
Snuggles: If he's as powerful as you say he is. Then we have no chance of winning! Nous sommes condamnés!
Drago: (chuckles) There's no need to get all hysterical, guys.
[He shows them a small black crystal and they look at it confusingly]
Snuggles: What is this?
Drago: A fragment of the Black Emerald, it originally came from my home planet Mobius, but it was banished to another world, according to the documents I found before I was imprisoned, it was most likely sent here but was shattered and scattered all over the Earth. I plan to find and gather all the pieces and make it whole again but I can't do it alone.
Fluffy: So… So where do we start looking for these fragments?
Spot: And what's so special about this black emerald? I mean what makes it so special in comparison to the other emeralds?
Drago: I'm glad you asked. The Chaos Emeralds are powerful, but the Black Emerald overpowers them in comparison, it's almost as powerful as the Master Emerald. A single fragment can give you incredible powers, but if it's whole, the possibilities are endless. And where to start looking, we'll start here, the fragments react to each other when it starts glowing it means that their close. [The shard begins to glow and Drago grins evilly, as the three canomutants stand in awe at the sight of the shard glowing] And so the search begins. Join up with me and help me find these shards, and I promise you absolute power will be yours.
Fluffy: Okay then. We'll help you.
Spot: It's a deal, Drago.
[Snuggles shakes Drago's paw]
Snuggles: Okay. We'll help you. But it better be worth it…
Drago: Oh it will be. Let's get to work.
[They began to looking for the shard of the Black Emerald. What sinister plans does Drago have in store for it? Stay tuned]
