The First Thoughts

James Potter absolutely hates redheads.

It's been a well-known fact since he was about five and was chased around the house by his nursemaid; a strong, ginger-haired woman with a fierce aim when it came to wand work, after accidentally-on-purpose setting the curtains alight.

And it's just his luck that the second person he meets on the train is a snooty, stuck up redhead with a glaring expression and heavily folded arms.

He accidentally falls near her (accidentally being the key word here) and her tear stained face (oh bloody brilliant, she's a crybaby) scrunches up in surprise but there are more important things than smiling at trembling redheads so he scrambles up and chases after Sirius, away from the redhead and her weird friend next to her.

The thing is, he doesn't know that's she's snobby at first and actually, maybe she doesn't seem so bad but then he finds out that:

She's friends with a future Slytherin

And

She's a complete princess.

James has never been the sword wielding prince who battles the dragon and saves the princess and so he's not about to start chitchatting with a redheaded lunatic who seems to think that she's some sort of royalty and has bright green eyes and strange funny clothes (must be a Muggleborn) and a penchant for greasy haired Slytherins in old tatty robes.

So he says no thanks to the idea of being friends with Princess Red and instead turns to Sirius and starts planning out all the pranks they are going to play this year.

Somehow, that doesn't last long.

James has always been far too curious for his own good.

"What d'you think her name is?" James demands for the fourth time and Sirius groans and slumps further in his seat.

"Why do you care?"

"Because she's so irritating!" James' fingers clench. "And she's friends with that greasy Slytherin so that has to be a red flag."

Sirius closes his eyes.

"I just want to finish preparing the prank we're gonna play on Cissy later."

"Rose." James says and looks around. "I bet her name's Rose."

"What?"

"Because of her hair, y'know? Red, like roses? Or maybe it's Ruby. I have a cousin called Ruby actually, never liked her much-"

"Lily!" Sirius says and lightly punches his new friend on the shoulder. "Her name's Lily."

"Lily." James tests the name out on his tongue like a sweet. "You sure?"

Sirius nods.

"Positive. I heard her creepy Slytherin friend calling her that."

"I don't like lilies." James says immediately and Sirius simply sighs.

She thinks he's an idiot and he thinks she's a spoilt brat and it's enough to make anyone wonder if they will ever even see past their differences to just talk to another.

(Not bloody likely, James thinks as he goes back to his prank planning.)

So, this is the second instalment. I will probably update this story twice/once a week depending on how busy I am.

Thank you to the lovely SilviaGreyback who reviewed last chapter.

Hopefully, there aren't any spelling/grammar issues.

Thank you for reading and if you could leave a review, it would be much appreciated.

Have a great day/night!
