Chapter Two: Who's that girl?
After the first class was over Kurama waited patiently for Ami to take out her schedule. "You don't have to wait for me. I can figure this out myself," Ami smiled up at Kurama apologetically.
"No it's okay, I don't mind," Kurama smiled reassuringly before gently taking Ami's paper which ran as so:
1pd. Advance History
2pd. Gym
3pd. Science
Lunch
4pd. Math
5pd. Studio Art
6pd. Cooking
"It seems that we have the same science class and I can show you to gym because it's near my next class." Kurama looked back at the schedule to confirm before nodding his head.
"Thanks Shuichi." Ami clutched her books to her chest as she followed him to gym.
TWENTY MINUTES LATER
When Kurama was finished his class work in math class he quickly asked to be excused because he was curious about what was happening in gym. He kept hearing the girls and boys in gym muffled awes at something he definitely wanted to find out now.
Mrs. Moore gave Kurama permission to leave because he was the best and most responsible student in her class. Kurama quickly thanked the teacher and ran to the gym across the hall, to the side.
As soon as he opened the door he saw Yusuke's girlfriend. Keiko look in awe at the thing in front of her. Kurama walked up to her and tapped her gently on her shoulder. "What's all this excitement about?" Kurama looked questioningly at Keiko.
"Hi, Kurama. We're just watching the new girl on the uneven parallel bars and she's amazing." Keiko didn't bother to glance at Kurama as she spoke.
Kurama followed the direction Keiko's finger pointed to and his eyes widened in surprise.
Ami Valentine was doing a routine on the uneven parallel bars. She swung from the bars with ease and dexterity and when she flew to the next bar her body arched and twisted before her hands grabbed the next bar.
'Who is this girl? Kurama thought as he watched her do a handstand on the bar and turn around to make a perfect landing that was barely heard. She lifted her head and gave the crowd a small confident smile before she walked silently to the girls changing room so she could change out of the long shirt and short shorts of the gym uniforms.
"Ami you were great." Keiko laughed as she ran up to Ami when she was able to get out of the crowd of admirers.
"You think?" Ami asked shyly as blushed happily. She scratched her head as she looked down at her feet, shuffling them.
"You were amazing Ami." Kurama words were kind.
Ami jerked her head up and flashed him a surprised smile. "What's brought you here?"
"You did," Kurama brushed the statement away as if it was nothing. "You must belong to a gymnastics team back in America, don't you?"
"No, not at all, though it is something I have been working for years on," Ami looked at Kurama with her deep blue eyes before they shot to the bell that just rang. "So I guess we have science," Ami consulted her schedule quickly. She then quickly walked behind Keiko to the Science room with Kurama trailing behind.
'Why does she keep reminding me of that thief?' thought Kurama, Shuichi and Youko at the same time.
FASTFORWARD AHEAD TO AFTER SCIENCE
Ami was about to go her own way since this was lunch and she wasn't that hungry. She was able to make it through the pressing bodies of students on their way to class and spotted a nice cherry tree on the school grounds not far from the cafeteria.
She was even able to climb the tree with ease before laying her back on the trunk. Sighing in relief as she closed her eyes she suddenly realized she wasn't alone.
"Who are you?" asked Ami as she looked warily at the boy that was in the tree with her. He was sitting on a bough not to far from her, just a little above.
"I could ask you the same," Hei looked annoyed at the ningen that disturbed him. Ami scowled at the boy dressed in all black before she looked down to see who was calling her name.
"Yes Keiko?" Ami leaned her body a little out of the tree to look at her new friend. She began to slip and automatically closed her eyes ready for contact with the hard ground when she felt herself suspended in air.
She snapped confused blue eyes open and looked at the smiling Shuichi who had caught her. She blushed and was about to say something when she distinctively heard the boy in the tree say, "Stupid ningen. You shouldn't have been in the tree in the first place."
Ami scrambled so quickly out of Shuichi's arms, her eyes flashing blue fire. She was going to climb up the tree again and knock some manners into Hiei. Keiko pulled on Ami's sleeve to keep her from climbing it.
"Ami remember your skirt!" Keiko called frantically as she lost her grip on the frustrated Ami. Ami paused as that sunk in and stopped trying to climb the tree though she glared up at the person in it.
Kurama chuckled and Ami whipped angry eyes on him and frowned. "Shuichi what's so funny," she growled as she walked up to him and looked into his chuckling face.
"I'm sorry Ami but that's my friend Hiei. He's not one for manners," Shuichi smiled apologetically and sweat dropped at her angry look.
"What did Hiei do this time?" Yusuke sighed as he walked up to them. He stood by Keiko and placed an arm around her waist as if it was always usually there. "Who's the new girl?" Yusuke then turned his head to look at Ami who was yelling at Hiei in the tree.
"If you were in Science class like you were suppose to be then you would have known that!" Kieko howled giving Yusuke a disapproving look.
"Sorry Keiko." Yusuke rubbed at the back of his head and laughed nervously.
"My name is Valentine, Ami." Ami paused in her argument with Hiei to turn fully around and look at Yusuke.
"And I am the Great Kuwabara. I think I'm in love," declared Kuwabara as he grabbed both of her hands.
Kurama couldn't help chuckle again as he saw Ami's eyes widen in surprise and then her face scrunch up as if she had suck a lemon. She laughed nervously and sweat dropped, not knowing how to handle this situation.
Kurama was about to step in and save her when an orange pelted Kuwabara on the head. Ami sighed in relief as the big oaf clutched his head in pain. She actually gave Hiei a look of gratitude which Hei answered in a indifferent, "Hn."
"When did oranges grow on cherry trees?" was Kuwabara's dumb question.
"When were idiots like you allowed to stay alive," Hei's retort came from the tree.
"Say that to my face shrimp!" Kuwabara walked to the tree and shook his fist threateningly.
Kurama sighed and looked to see where Ami was, but she was already gone. 'Probably went to find her class before lunch was over,' he thought and went to the tree to keep Kuwabara from making an even bigger fool of himself.
A WEEK LATER, IN KOENMA'S OFFICE
Kurama saw that little ruler was not there so he walked to Koenma's desk and pressed a red button that activated the big screen behind the desk. "I would like information on a fox youkai named Sakura." Kurama asked the screen.
The screen turned on to show blue that soon filled up with names that scrolled down. There were thirty hundred different fox youkais named Sakura.
"Show me a picture of all of them," Kurama requested once more. So many Sakura's did not disturb him in the least.
The screen then started to flash picture after picture, leaving thirty seconds for him to see the picture before the screen moved to the next one. Then when he spotted a pink haired girl he said stopped.
He gazed at the painting that stood before him since they didn't have camera's back then. It was a painting of a young little girl that he knew as Sakura.
She stared at Kurama with big, deep blue eyes that were full of so many things that it would take a while to understand all of them. Her hair was long, curly pink locks that fell to her shoulders before stopping. Her freckles decorated her little nose and cheeks and a happy smile was on her lips. She wore a rich blue kimono with cherry blossom petals scattered all over the bottom half.
"Show me her information," Kurama requested kindly.
The picture of Sakura was reduced to make room for information about her. That went as so:
Sakura
Sex: Female
Age: She's sixty-five, but looks and thinks like an eleven year old. Still in
childhood stage of kitsune life. (Before losing track of her)
Type of Demon: Kitsune
Birthday: March 13
Status: Thief
Other Information: Youko's Trainee. Has not been seen since two months before Youko's disappearance. Thought to have died. Cause of death unknown.
"Kurama can I help you?" Koenma asked as he came into his office to see Kurama looking at the screen.
"No, I'm finished here." Kurama pressed the button to turn off the screen before leaving the office.
'She did disappear before I had to hide in this body,' Youko's voice was thoughtful in Kurama's head. "But does that mean that is her?" Kurama questioned. 'But if she's even alive won't she look like Genkai by now,' Shuichi voice said in Kurama's head.
'That is interesting. If she is alive then she has went over the lifeline of any kitsune I know. Sakura should be dead right now, but that thief...' thought Youko trailing off. "Is she her? But how she could even survive while keeping her youthful appearance? I should definitely eliminate her as a candidate for the thief's identity," came Kurama's logic response.
'But Youko's older then Sakura, right?' said Shuichi a little more than confused. "Well I can travel through time and space dolt. How do you figure that I was able to come here in the future to seek safety in a human's body? Sakura cannot do that. Only I have somehow managed time travel,' Youko's voice was firm in that fact.
'Sorry,' Shuichi's voice became apologetic and docile before he mumbled something under his breath and disappeared. 'What was that!'' Youko's voice demanded and disappeared to see what Shuichi had meant.
"This has only put me at the starting point again. Who's that girl?" Kurama asked himself as he left Spirit World to go back to the Ningen World.
A DAY LATER, AT A DIFFERENT SAFE HOUSE
"Who are you looking for?" The thief questioned as she looked curiously at Kurama from a stack of crates. She had her ski mask tucked under her belt and she was sitting cross-legged like she had all the time in the world.
"Actually you," Kurama turned around to face her to get a better look at her.
"I'm so flattered." The thief smiled crookedly and put her hand to her chest as if this really did touch her.
"Do you have a name?" asked Kurama. 'Smooth one Kurama,' Youko's voice said sarcastically in Kurama's head. Kurama ignored Youko and looked at the thief.
"Doesn't everyone? But why do you want to know so much? Why ask the name of a thief?" The thief cocked her head to the side and smiled questioningly.
"Because I'm a close acquaintance with a thief myself." Kurama smiled to himself as he felt more then saw Youko rolling his eyes.
"I am who I feel like being and I'll say who I am when the right time comes. And right now it's time to go. I have a prior engagement," The thief looked smugly down at him as she stood up and stretched.
She jumped down from the crates she was standing on and disappeared behind them.
"What happened to my kiss?" Kurama asked a little jokingly as he saw the thief disappear. He was about to leave the safe house when the thief suddenly appeared behind him and tapped him on the shoulder.
He turned around confused and she kissed him on the lips. "Sorry, I almost lost my head there," she laughed then winked at him before she left him again.
He couldn't help but smile at the mysterious girl. 'She's a keeper,' Youko said in Kurama's head. "Maybe," murmured Kurama and left.
ANCIENT JAPAN, BEFORE YOUKO WAS FORCED TO BECOME KURAMA
The cherry blossoms in the cherry tree were being tugged lightly in the wind. Sakura was sitting in the cherry tree with her back against the tree and tried her hardest not to fall asleep. 'Youko promised he'd come today and train me,' thought the little girl and looked out of the branches to see the silver fox.
She sighed when she couldn't see him and leaned her back against the tree trunk again Only problem was that she had shifted and so when she leaned back, her back met air.
Sakura only closed her eyes against the impact that would soon come. It felt like she waited for an eternity to hit the ground but she never felt that harsh blow. She opened her surprise blue eyes to look into the face of Youko who caught her. She blushed happily at the fact that Youko saved her and murmured a soft thank you before she got out of his arms.
"I leave you for a month so I could do an errand and find you, my star pupil, falling out of a tree," Youko tried not to smile.
"I didn't actually mean to fall. It just happened," Sakura grimaced at him. She then started kicking the leaves with her feet as she looked down at the ground with shame; her pink hair fell to curtain her face from Youko.
"Sakura what are you waiting for? Let's begin at the place we left off," said Youko not wanting to see the girl sad. 'I haven't notice how much she has grown,' thought Youko as he saw that the girl had grown a foot since last winter. She was around ten now and she was almost approaching adulthood.
Her head jerked up and she grinned at Youko in excitement. She then quickly grabbed his hand so she could tug him out of the cherry orchard and into the clearing by the river.
A/N: I really do hope that you like this chapter. The next chapter is called 'Yusuke's Gang Meets the Thief.' So how do you think the others will react when they see the female thief? Would they really try to capture her once they meet her or will they try to understand her and let her go? Not likely but you can't keep a thief from trying. Well thank you for reading and please remember to review. Oh and if you want a picture that I drew of what Sakura would like when she is older then give me your email address and a request for the picture, along with a reply to my story.
Hey, this is your longtime authoress Simply Hopeless here. I've been on since 2003 and I'm thinking about hanging up my keyboard for good. I've danced around the subject off and on for three or four years now, but I'm honestly thinking about doing it for real this time. Maybe I've lost my edge or something, but I don't think I love fan fiction writing as much as I did when I first started out. Back then three reviews could have spurred me to write even if it was 'I like, update, more'. Sure I wasn't the best writer then, but I know I've grown leaps and bounds, despite my grammar. I'm still growing and I'm proud to say that a lot of people have favored my stories and me as an authoress. But as my skills improved I've found that I desire reviews that will help push me to improve and/or encourage me/ stroke my ego. That, however, has sorely been lacking for a lot of my stories and the alerts/favorites frustrate me because it shows that you guys like it, but won't put in the effort to tell me why.
So long story short, for better or worse, I'll try to update 6 times in 5 months for a few of my stories from different fandoms. By the beginning of June 2014, if I feel dissatisfied, I'm going to hang up my fanfic writing hat for good guys. If I do find that I'm loved I'll start writing again in August 2014 in time for an anime convention in Baltimore. I've thoroughly enjoyed my ten and a half years of writing and growing as an author, but I don't think I can put up with the disappointment of writing and feeling like some of my readers don't care. It doesn't mean I think all my readers don't care. I know there are tons of people out there who have written well thought out reviews from one or two sentences to mouth-watering paragraphs that have made me just itch to write just to see what you might say next. But as I look back at some of my reviews for inspiration for a new chapter I've realized that some of my reviewers write the same thing over and over again and I'm beginning to question why bother agonizing day in and day out how you might react to something in the story if no one tells me.
So if you have ever liked any of my stories, please remember to review. It doesn't have to be fancy but I need to know that I shouldn't retire. If I do retire, I'll keep my stories up for the rest of the year before deleting my account on here and the other websites. This might leave a lot of stories with unresolved endings but I will not be giving any of the stories up for adoption. I've put a lot of effort into my work, they are my children and I'd feel hurt to see someone else continuing on where I left off. So if I find anyone trying to adopt and finish my stories for me I will report you. But hopefully it won't come to that. =/
Next Update: March 25, 2014
