A Simple Daydream

Last time…

"Seriously! Why should we trust this idiot?" Mys hissed.

"Right now, he's our only connection to the mafia! We can use him to find our parents!" I whispered. Hesitating, I continued.

"And I want to know about these rings!"

Continuing on…

"…Fine then." Mys agreed reluctantly. "But there's no way I'm just going to let him be my friend!"

"You don't have to be friends." I reminded her. "We just need to get the info and find Mom and Dad. I don't trust him either."

"Hey! Hurry up already!" Gokudera-san shouted at us impatiently.

"Freaking moron…" I muttered. Standing up straight, I looked at Hayato dead in the eye. I could hear a boy with a girlish sort of voice screaming the Gokudera-san's name.

"Is that your boss screaming your name?"

"Huh?"

"Gokudera-kun!" A brown-haired boy ran up to Gokudera-san. He stopped and took a few long moments to stop panting like crazy. "Gokudera-kun! I didn't get to tell you that they were twins!"

"Too late." I said, making the brown-haired guy look up in surprise. His gentle, chocolate-brown eyes surprised me a little as he recognized me... from what? He was shorter than I had expected too, and I couldn't help but think, "THIS is the Tenth? He looks a little weak...?"

"Oh! You already found them!" The brown-haired guy said, stating the obvious.

"Who are you?" Mys asked curiously.

"I'm Sa-"

"This is Juudaime! Respect him or I'll kill you!" Gokudera-san said, narrowing his eyes at Mys. He took out dynamite from nowhere and scowled fiercely at the both of us.

"Geez, you don't gotta be so mean!" Mys protested. "And where did you get the dynamite?!"

"None of your business, brat!" Gokudera-san snarled, taking a step forward.

"Gokudera-kun! Don't scare them!" The brown-haired guy said, moving in front of Gokudera-san. "P-Put away the dynamite!"

My black-brown eyes were shocked as I heard the stutter, saw the dynamite as a threat, and watched as the brown-haired weakling stand up to seemingly-delinquent Gokudera-san. I also noticed his sky-high hair looked the slightest bit determined as it waved in the gentle wind.

"Alright." Gokudera-san said, reluctantly hiding the dynamite back into his jacket. So that was where he got it?! "But I will kill you if you do anything to hurt the boss!"

"Yeah, like I'm going to be an idiot and do that!" Mys retorted. "I don't feel like dying anytime soon!"

But I could see the fear in Mys's eyes as she spoke, and I resolved to make sure that Gokudera-san wouldn't have the slightest chance to make do on that threat.

"Of course not." I said, nodding in agreement. "But, I would like to know something."

"The brown-haired guy looked relieved as Gokudera-san had out away the dynamite. He had moved back next to Gokudera-san and was observing Mys and I as we talked. Now, he looked towards me with a curious look.

"What do you want to know?" The brown-haired guy asked with a tilt of his head. For a teenager, he looked really childishly cute...?

"What is your name? You were going to say it before but he-" I jabbed my thumb in Gokudera-san's direction with a roll of my eyes. "-interrupted before you did. And I'm sure it isn't 'Juudaime'."

The brown-haired guy visibly flinched as I said 'Juudaime' which confirmed that he was indeed the Tenth. Not that I doubted. Despite Gokudera-san's initial impression on me, I could tell that Gokudera-san was at least loyal to his boss and I knew what that meant. I have people loyal to me the same way after all...

"I'm Sawada Tsunayoshi." Sawada-san said, bowing a little as befitted Japanese manners. "It's nice to meet the both of you, Jenna and Mys Smith."

"It's nice to meet you as well." I said, with a smile and a bow. I then changed my expression to a suspicious and questioning look. My eyes narrowed, I asked Sawada-san, "Now why do you know our names and why are you looking for us?"

I saw Mys tense up as Sawada-san stiffened and Gokudera-san settle in an attack position.

"W-Well, you see..." Sawada-san looked away from me with a sad look in his eyes. "R-Reborn told me to go and find the both of you. And your names were in a f-file..."

"That's why the both of you are coming with us!" Gokudera-san snapped, not at all affected by the mean and accusing look on my face. I considered that, and decided that I wasn't going willing just yet. I wanted to know more.

"So I guess you're the tenth boss of the mafia, Sawada-san?" I asked. Gokudera-san and Sawada-san froze, disbelief in their eyes. I changed my expression to look bored, and my stance was one of boredom as well. I twirled a piece of my black-brown hair.

"How did you-?!" Gokudera-san said, shocked.

"How did you know that?" Sawada-san asked, shell-shocked but a little less than Gokudera-san. For the tenth boss of the mafia, he sure was different than I thought...

I shrugged, the perfect act of being an informed person. "It's not too hard to know that Juudaime means Tenth in Italian. What happened to the Ninth?"

"He's about to retire." Sawada-san said, with almost a sense of guilt.

"Hmm." I said, hearing the guilt but ignoring it and opting for the bored tone instead. What did happen...? It was just a random question... "Who is Reborn?"

"H-He's a hitman and..." Sawada-san drifted off, looking terrified. Kind of like a terrified squirrel... ha. "Uh, can you come back to my house? Reborn wants to meet you and you can learn more from him."

"...Well, okay." I said warily. I glanced at Mys, who had remained quiet. She gave me a small smile and a thumbs-up.

I guess it's time then. The look in Mys's eyes told me that, and I responded with a small nod. It's time.

I looked back at Sawada-san and waved me hand. "Lead on."

My instincts told me to run that day. But to this day, I can see that sometimes, instincts can't always be relied on. Sometimes, you have to push forward.

And so that's how Mys and I ended up walking towards a mafia boss's house and possible doom. Fun, isn't it? I mean, paranoia can be a stalker sometimes.

It was silent for most of the walk between me and Sawada-san. Not really for Mys and Gokudera-san though. Mys was irritating Hayato-san enough for them to start arguing like they've done it a million times. She seemed to get more comfortable as we walked, seeing that as long as she didn't do anything extreme, she wouldn't walk away too injured. But, I can absolutely say that Sawada-san kept giving me pitiful glances. It made me wonder what my future had in store for me, and just who was this 'Reborn' anyways?

"Oreta awai tsubasa kimi wa sukoshi aosugiru-"*

I nearly jumped from the surprise of my phone ringing. Calming myself down, I quickly scooped my phone out of the pocket in my jeans and flipped it open. It was a great song, but at the moment it described me perfectly.

"Moshi moshi*?" I said, trying to act professional. After all, there was only one person who would call me...

"Boss!" I heard a familiar voice say. "We got trouble again!"

"What?" I asked, just the slightest bit annoyed. Already?

"I've been handling it as best I could, but they started making trouble after you left!" the voice said, panicking a little.

"Who?" I asked impatiently.

"The White Wolves!"

"The bane of my time." I muttered, glaring at the ground. "Okay, make sure none of the guys pick a fight with them. If they do, you're screwed. Once you find one of the Wolves, make sure you send them back with a message."

I glanced at Sawada-san and Gokudera-san. My eyes glittered dangerously, I knew since I had long since perfected it.

"Tell them the Dancing Rabbit might just come back."

"Hai*, Boss!" the voice answered, sounding excited. "We'll tell them just that!"

I ended the call and shoved the phone back into my pocket. Smiling, but not with my eyes, I said "Sorry, just a little business!"

"What kind of business?" Sawada-san asked, looking a little apprehensive.

"One that a mafia boss shouldn't interfere with." I said cheerfully, my eyes giving the warning not to go further. Sawada-san flinched and it seemed like he was thinking hard about something. Maybe he expected me to be a little more docile? Sigh, maybe if the last two weeks hadn't happened. Maybe…

Looking over at Gokudera-san, I saw him looking at me with intense concentration. No, not looking at me. It seemed more like he was thinking about what I had said on the phone. I briefly wondered if he would put the pieces together. But he'd have to know about what happened two towns from Namimori… No, he's in the mafia. There might be a chance if he were to keep track...

When my phone rang, we had all stopped for the short little call. But now, we walk again and the atmosphere was a little more tense. Mys understood what the call was about, and kept her mouth shut. Gokudera-san narrowed his eyes a little suspiciously, but he didn't say anything. I was relieved yet worried that he might ask Mys or I about the phone call later. Sawada-san looked more uncomfortable than before, and kept looking around anxiously. But, he was a mafia boss right? Surely, he didn't have anything to worry about now...?

As we arrived at Sawada-san's house, I was already wondering about the shouts and loud noises coming from the house. And they sounded like children...?

"Do you have siblings…?" I asked Sawada-san, as he opened the gate.

"N-Not really... I'll tell you later." Sawada-san said quickly, looking away. I was starting to think maybe Sawada-san became a mafia boss against his will…

The door burst open and a little kid in a cow suit ran through and jumped onto Sawada-san, laughing the whole time. Oh, I'll make sure he tells me! A cow suit?!

"Ga ha ha ha ha!" the kid said with an annoying laugh. He had an afro, and I could see so many objects crammed into it. Was that a grenade...?! "Where's my grape candy, Dame-Tsuna!"

"W-What candy, Lambo?!" Sawada-san said, nearly falling from the momentum and sheer surprise. I watched, a little amused yet shocked.

"Stop that, Ahoshi*!" Hayato-san said, picking Lambo(?) off Sawada-san by the afro.

"Ah! Baka-dera! Let me go!" Lambo said, struggling. Hayato-san threw him at the ground. "OW!"

"Lambo! Stop making trouble!" A girl in Chinese clothes ran out and stopped in front of the yelling Lambo. She had a sort of oval-ish head and looked a little annoyed as she stood over Lambo. She also had a small pony tail on the back of her head. "Don't cause trouble for everyone!"

"Gotta…Stay…Calm….Waaaaa!" Lambo said, crying. He looked at me and stopped crying, but still sniffing. "Who are you?"

"I'm Jenna, little kid." I said cheerfully, bending down to get eye-level with the little kid. I read in some book that animals are naturally scared of things bigger than them deep inside, so I tried my best to be as small. Well, it wasn't all that hard considering how short I actually was...

Digging through my backpack, I pulled out a grape-flavored candy by chance. I offered the candy to Lambo. "Here. This is what you wanted, right?"

"Ga ha ha ha!" Lambo said, taking the candy. His nose was still dripping, but he looked more happy. Or rather, triumphant? "You can join my famiglia!"

Ah. He's in the mafia too. No wonder he knows Sawada-san.

"Sorry, little kid, but I can't." I said, patting his head with a smile. I have no intention of joining one in the first place...

"Oh." Lambo said, unwrapping the candy and stuffing it in his mouth.

"Lambo! Say thank you!" The little girl reprimanded in broken Japanese. Who was she...?

"Tank ou." Lambo said, his words messed up with the candy. He ran back into the house and the little girl followed after politely bowing and introducing herself.

"My name is I-Pin!" The girl said, smiling.

"It's nice to meet you, I-Pin." I said, smiling. I pulled out another candy and gave it to her. Strawberry-flavored, this time. "Here."

"Thank you!" I-Pin said, bowing again. She took the candy and ran inside.

"What the heck just happened?" Mys asked disbelievingly. Mys had just stood there, watching it all. Lambo and I-pin hadn't seen her, as she was at the back of the group.

"That's what I'd like to say." I said, standing up and dusting myself off. I zipped my backpack up and swung it onto my back.

"T-Thank you for getting Lambo to calm down." Sawada-san said, looking more relieved. Maybe he thought I was actually nicer than he'd thought before? Or maybe he was relieved that Lambo had stopped crying?

"Well, it was either that or smack him. I didn't feel like hurting a little kid though." I said, shrugging. Sawada-san looked like he immediately changed his opinion about me.

"A-As you can guess, the kid in the cow suit is Lambo. The Chinese girl is I-Pin." Sawada-san explained. "They both came here under, er, certain circumstances..."

"I see. Is there anyone else I need to know?" I asked, nodding in acknowledgement. "Any more little kids?"

"Tsuna-nii! Welcome back!" Another little boy came out from the open door. He looked normal at least…

"Ah! Fuuta-kun, I'm back." Sawada-san said, smiling.

The kid looked at me. "Who are you? A friend of Tsuna-nii?"

"Not exactly." I said, smiling. Sawada-san flinched. "I'm just here to meet Reborn."

The little kid looked at me with pity, but he bowed and said, "Nice to meet you. My name is Fuuta de la Stella."

"My name is Jenna Smith. It's nice to meet you." I said, nodding my head.

"My name's Mys. Nice to meet you!" Mys said informally.

"Fuuta-kun! Who's at the door?" A female voice drifted out.

"It's Tsuna-nii and his friends!" Fuuta answered back. He walked back into the house after respectfully bowing. I said I wasn't his friend though...

"Three kids. How did that happen?" I asked. "It can't just be coincidence."

"It's a long story." Sawada-san said, sighing. He walked into the house, Mys and I following him in. Hayato-san closed the door behind us and quickly followed in.

"Sorry for intruding." I murmured, taking off my shoes. Mys followed my example, as she forgot every single rule of etiquette I had her study before we came to Japan. Sigh...

Sawada-san looked surprised at my manners, knowing that I was a foreigner.

"Have you been to Japan before?" Sawada-san asked me, as we walked up the stairs into his room.

"No."

"Really?"

"Yes."

"You speak Japanese well and your manners are just as great."

"Thank you." I answered shortly. I had this feeling of apprehension as we approached Sawada-san's room. Call it my own brand of intuition, but there was something in there…

"Reborn! We found Jenna and Mys!" Sawada-san said, opening the door.

"Took you long enough." A little kid with curly sideburns said with a condescending tone. He smirked as he saw the flash of surprise in my eyes. "You're Jenna, I presume?"

"Hai*." I said, respectfully bowing deeply. The little kid was more than that. His tone, his confidence, his aura… It was possible that maybe he was one of the Arcobaleno? He certainly fit the description of one of them…

What was the Arcobaleno anyway?

"Reborn is a little baby?!" Mys asked in disbelief. *Click*

"Do you want to die?" Reborn asked. The chameleon on his hat transformed into a gun and he pointed it at Mys.

"What the-?!"

"Shut up and bow, you idiot!" I said, smacking Mys on the head. Reborn, Sawada-san, and Gokudera-san looked at me with surprise, given the fact that was the most emotion they had ever seen out of me yet. "Excuse my sister, Reborn-san. She's an idiot and doesn't know Japanese etiquette."

I glared at her. She quickly bowed and said the proper greeting. Reborn smirked.

"That's all right. You seem to know who I am. " Reborn said. He held up a yellow folder, which I suspected contained information about Mys and I. "The question is, who are you really?"

I looked at him with surprise. "You know who I am already right? That folder says everything, doesn't it?"

Reborn threw the folder at the trash can. It flew across the room and landed with a quiet clang. "It doesn't say you know about the mafia. It doesn't even explain why you're here and not cowering in your home right now."

I blinked. Well. I feel a tiny bit offended, but that wasn't false at all.

Soon enough, we were all sitting at the small coffee table in the middle of Sawada-san's room. Reborn was sitting in his luxurious black chair, looking down at all of us. When you're a midget, you already feel offended most every time someone looks down at you. But when it's someone tinier than you... you feel more than a little bit offended.

"So what do you know?" Reborn asked.

"Only that Sawada-san is the Tenth mafia boss and Reborn-san is one of the Arcobaleno." I answered. "But I don't know who the Arcobaleno are or anything else."

Smirking – why is he always smirking? – Reborn answered "I'll leave Dame-Tsuna to answer that. I have to go meet with the Ninth."

"What?!" Sawada-san asked. "I thought you were going to stay-"

"The Ninth is more important, Dame-Tsuna." Reborn said, kicking Sawada-san in the face. He landed on the coffee table as if it was completely ordinary to kick your student in the face. It probably was... "I only stayed to make sure they get here."

Reborn hopped off the table and walked out of the room. Sawada-san was left on the ground, groaning in pain.

"Ahem!" I coughed. These people are insane...

"Right!" Sawada-san answered, his voice squeaky. He sat straight up and coughed into his hand. "I need to tell you about Vongola!"

"Vongola?" I asked.

Sawada-san nodded. "It's the top famiglia of the mafia."

"And you're the boss of it, of course."

Hi again people. I'm hoping to get these chapters out weekly. Maybe more if I find the time. Please review on your way out, because I know as well as you know that I don't make a good Reborn impression. Or Tsuna. Or Gokudera. In fact, I wonder if I'm making a good Mys or Jenna... Let's just say I don't have confidence?

(Okay. I'm hoping that Jenna seems a bit more human-like than some old shell of a human that explodes with misery all of a sudden. Ha. Anyways, the * actually means something. Here it is.

Oreta awai tsubasa kimi wa sukoshi aosugiru-* It's the sixth opening of Bleach and it certainly describes Jenna perfectly... to a certain extent. Go watch it! It's called Alones.

Moshi moshi* is a greeting in Japanese used when greeting someone on a phone.

Ahoshi* It means 'stupid cow' in Japanese.

Hai* It means 'Yes' in Japanese.)
