"Um, Lord Kaos? Sir? Is this place even safe?"
"QUITE GLUMSHANKS! Of course it's safe!" To prove his point, Kaos stomped on the stone ground. "See? Nothing happened! So it's perfectly safe." The dark portal master continued down the stone corridor, rubbing his hands together in an evil gleeful manner. Glumshanks on the other hand lingered behind, trembling with each step as he went. Kaos might not have been affected at the falling apart ceiling, or the crumbling walls, or the dust covered décor, but Glumshanks was almost ready to run out with very soggy pants. The place was…unwelcoming to sum it up. But it didn't feel like the unwelcoming he felt back at the castle in the darkness. No, this was a much different unwelcomed feeling. It felt like something was expecting them, yet it didn't hold any pleasure, nor did it feel like it wanted them to waste its time for so long and wanted them gone right away. It felt like the darkness would strike at them if they made one wrong move that could end their lives in seconds. And eyes that were watching from all around yet nowhere in sight. This place had a bad feeling. Much worse then what the castle back home felt like. MUCH worse.
Why had he found that scroll that led them here in the first place? It didn't seem very important at first. Just a piece of rolled up paper that he found in the castles library sitting on the shelf far from the other scrolls. He didn't think of it as much at first, but his thoughts changed when one of his fingers grazed the paper slightly, only to receive the most terrifying jolt of darkness run up his arm and shake his very soul, resulting him to falling on his rear and look at the scroll like it was a living monster that was looking to make a meal out of him. It was then that he went to get Kaos. The dark lord didn't believe him at first, or the second time.
Or the third.
Fourth.
Fifth.
Twenty seventh.
Fifty third.
But he did, eventually, convinced Kaos about an intriguing scroll that could help him become ruler of all Skylands. Maybe. Yet the scroll did hold a very…interesting information that got Kaos's attention quickly. Sadly for Glumshanks, he didn't get the chance to read it fully as Kaos had rolled it back up, declaring that they were heading off to the Cloudbreak Islands. Which led them here.
The farthest place in Cloudbreak, where no light was welcomed, plants never grow, and the only signs that there was any thriving population were broken down ghost towns and graves with faded names of the long deceased. He wondered if this very place was evil itself. It looked like darkness was spawned here…or at least, that was what he began to think when he saw…it.
On the very tallest mountain, black as a starless night, surrounded by clouds of darkness with cracking lighting and clapping thunder, was the creepiest, most horrifying, completely darkest castle Glumshanks had ever seen in his life. And he had seen scary stuff. But this topped all others. No questions asked. He didn't want to go any further once he saw the place, but Kaos command him to move forward. A rough climb, many rockslides, and near too close edges later and they found themselves in front of the castles giant doors, which was also creepy in Glumshanks eyes.
The place was even creepier on the inside as well.
"Hurry up Glumshanks! My evil genius brain tells me we're getting close!"
"L-Lord Kaos? I-I-I don't mean to be a bother, b-but this place—"
"What about it fool?!"
"Doesn't it give you the creeps?"
"EH?! What do you mean?"
"W-well, this place feels…unwelcoming."
"Augh! Glumshanks, there is nothing wrong or creepy about this place. In fact, this place is a dump!" His voice echoed throughout the castle. Bits of dust fell from the ceiling, which heightened the troll's fears. "Now come on! Evil doesn't like to wait!"
Glumshanks sighed and started picking up his pace, when his eyes spotted something that caught his attention. An old aged cloth hung limply on the wall, with torn edges and dust covering it. It wasn't anything special, but what intrigued him was that it was the only thing that seemed to be covered.
Slowly approaching the sheet, he reached out, grabbing an edge and lifting it up.
"GLUMSHANKS!"
He dropped the sheet instantly, jumping in fright.
"C-Coming Lord Kaos!"
He went running after the dark Portal Master, glancing back at the sheet one more time.
"So basically, we need to boost up the defenses around the towns perimeter and switch between shifts every five hours." Spy Rise concluded, droning on and on of what needed to be guarded more and patrol shifts and what not. But only have of the room was paying any attention, half of the other half tried to pay attention, and the rest were just plain fast asleep or didn't really focus thanks to the robots constant talking.
Night Shift was trying his best to block out Spy Rise's voice. If there was a scale on how much he hated being at meetings with Spy Rise doing the talking, he wouldn't rate it, he would just punch the guy till his mouth fell off.
The meeting room was basically a half circular area that divided the types of Skylanders in each respected part. Though some sat in different types anyway.
Like Freeze Blade.
Freeze Blade sat by Night Shift, half asleep and half awake. He had been relatively very quiet from the start of the meeting, not paying anything any attention, occasionally created an ice patch under his feet with his skis, and pulled at his ears time to time. Typical boredom. His stunts and fighting/complaining to Wash Buckler of being dragged halfway back to HQ must have taken out most of his energy this morning. So basically a win for Night Shift.
"Alright, any question?" Spy Rise looked around the room to, hopefully, find someone, awake, who, might, have a question.
"Uh, I have one."
"Yes Slobber Tooth?"
"Are you going to need that stick?" Spy Rises groaned, grabbing his face and shaking it.
"One, it's a pointer Slobber Tooth. Two, yes I still need it. And three, no you cannot eat it!"
"But it looks soooooo tasty!" Slobber Tooth whined, rivers of droll coming out of his mouth.
An irritated sigh escaped Night Shift, looking around to find something worth of interest. Wash Buckler was trying to keep Slobber Tooth from jumping out of his seat and devour Spy Rise's pointer with help from Blast Zone. Trap Shadow was snoring away in his chair, again. Fire Kraken had lost interest in the whole meeting and decided to play fetch with Hot Dog with his baton. Whirlwind and Scratch were talking with Chill and Punk Shock about something. Stink Boom and Stealth Elf had gone off somewhere. And Rattle Shake was…being Rattle Shake. Only Spyro, Star Strike, Cynder, Camo, and Flashwing seemed to be the only ones who were paying any attention to the meeting.
This was going to be another long day.
He was about to teleport to any place far from here when his ear picked up a very familiar sound next to him. Great, now Freeze Blade was up to something as well. Night Shift debated if he wanted to know what the cat was doing or ignore it and leave. Curiosity won the battle.
"Freeze Blade what are you…" His sentence slowed to a stop, eyes fixed on the cat when he saw what he was doing. Freeze Blade was rubbing his hands together, forming ice in between them till it was a size bigger than a baseball. Night Shift watch as Freeze Blade started to craft something out of it, thinning it out, bending the ice in a certain direction, carving in details, and finishing the final touches to a familiar feline. "Is that Tessa?"
"Yeah. Pretty good, huh?" He held the small statue out, inspecting it. "Though it's not really my best work. I can't seem to get the eyes right." He handed it over to the vampire.
Night Shift couldn't say anything. The detail on the ice sculpture was…accurate. Freeze Blade had actually done a dandy job with the hair, the hands, the clothing, even getting the crossbows small details.
"This is, very good. You got much detail in here."
"Thanks. It's…alright."
"Alright? This almost looks like the real Tessa! Do you do stuff like this often?" He asked, amazed that he had gotten every detail down accurately on the face.
"Naw, only when I'm bored." Freeze Blade snatch the ice Tessa back. "Or if I feel really inspired. Either way, it's not something I do really often."
"…it's still very good."
Freeze Blade only shrugged, putting in more detail to his creation.
"LET GO OF MY POINTER SLOBBER TOOTH!"
"…ooooiiiii."
"Isn't that the seventh stick this week?"
Night Shift only nodded, keeping his face hidden in his glove, sighing irately.
