Chapter 2: Meet Impmon
Authors Note: Hey second chapter! Once again, small but noticeable changes. Enjoy.
"Fight? What do you-" I began but a loud thud interrupted me and a chuckle came from right behind me.
Don't get me wrong, I am a tough girl but I just had to be the stupid girl in the movie and turn around slowly to meet up with big, yellow piercing eyes. Screaming, I attempted a punch out of pure reflex-but it hit cold, hard metal. I saw that the monster had a sword out. It looked like a human in face but it was so different with its blue and black outfit and tail-wait tail!? This thing is a monster! It reminded me of those Japanese warriors what are they called Sumi-Samera-Samenolla? Ah, screw it! Who gives, it was going to kill me and these kids soon! I had to do something!
"What do you want?" I whispered pathetically, putting the children behind me. If I was going to die, I would die while protecting these kids. I had a soft spot for children-and these two were no exception to the rule. Tears were going to start pouring out of my sea green eyes and I was not going to stop them.
The creature was still silent which creeped me out of my skin. Everything seemed lost and hopeless in those moments. My life, my friends, my family, was going to be gone. Heck, I didn't even get a first kiss yet!
"Impmon!" called out Ai. I noticed she sounded...calm. Very strange and off the weird radar I thought and opened my mouth. These kids should be screaming right about now.
I looked back and before I could ask what the heck she was doing, a strange creature came out. It looked like a toddler but with purple short fur and big floppy ears. It had strange red gloves and a bandana to match. I was behind it but I could see a barbed tail that flickered naturally.
I was shaking beyond belief. What was that? What was that! I could not think straight- or even hear clearly when the purple 'Impmon' yelled something incoherent to my ears and blasted a tiny fireball to the monster. It didn't work, not that I could tell for sure but the monster didn't collapse or anything grand. Maybe this thing was...protecting us? The boy stopped my thoughts.
"It's not working!" Mako cried. "You got to Digivolve, Impmon!" Again! That name! Impmon? And Mako's voice was so calm! What the hell was going on?
Digi-what? Wait-it was coming back to me…there was an incident all around the world about a program called D-Reaper destroying the world. I wasn't too far from the city where it was struck the most. Toronto, Canada had it the worst as it causalities were around five hundred. Even in my home town, Niagara Falls, it took one of my friends, Ethan Colons. God, I was depressed for months after that. I wanted to put away the thought of Ethan. Not now, I can't think about that.
I saw that the Impmon guy started to glow a bright, yellow light. He grew bigger-about several feet more than me and trust me, I'm about 5'8ft. The silver tail became more metal life like and lost its barb tip. The ears disappeared but I could definitely see huge black feathered wings. The light faded and there stood in front of me was a cross between and dark angel and a biker monster. What. The. Hell. Is. That?! I squeaked in fear.
"Yeah, get him Beelzemon!" called out Ai. She was standing up, cheering as if it was a soccer game. Sure enough, the Digimon as I recall Beelzemon was taking out his extremely large gun and shooting the blue and black monster. It disappeared with a few shots, and the fog lifted up but I didn't care. I cared that I was with a real Digimon; I could have been killed by a real Digimon. I was trembling.
"You okay kid?" the biker digimon asked turning towards me. I frowned and narrowed my eyes. The one thing I hated was being called a 'kid'. Fourteen is not a kid. Fourteen is a teenager. I didn't care if my nana would call me 'kid', I still hated it and said how I felt about it. Even if the thing calling me kid could have passed for a "Hell's Angel" biker.
"You want to try and call me 'kid' again or would you like to keep your head jerk?" I said hotly, standing up. The dark Digimon shrugged and rolled his eyes muttering about my attitude. I sat down again overwhelmed by the fact that I just threatened a Digimon and it could kill me in seconds with that huge gun of his-or those claws...oh, God!
"Don't worry Lindy. Beelzemon won't hurt you-he's with us." Mako explained helping me up. I nodded dumbly as the biker dude returned into 'Impmon' in a flash of yellow light. Now that I could see him more clearly, I wanted to go hug the little guy-he was cute! He had large green eyes with a small black nose and a fang that stuck out of its mouth. Actually, he looked like a Pokemon but alive! He had an evil smiley on his white belly and I had an idea that this guy was a trouble maker. He walked up to me.
"How ya doin toots? Name's Impmon and don't forget it" he said in a Brooklyn accent, holding out his three fingered gloved hand. I shook it and replied a small hey and warned him about calling me toots. He shrugged and said it suited me while smirking. I rolled my eyes. I asked how long 'Impmon' had been here and he replied with 'a while toots'. I came to a conclusion that Ai and Mako's parents didn't know about Impmon and I reassured them that I'll keep it a secret...for now. In my mind I had different opinions. The safety of those kids were first and if this 'Impmon' guy was going to make a wrong move-I'll be there to show him the door...with a broom in case he tries that evil monster biker trick. Or better yet, a frying pan.
"This is gunna be a long two months." I said in English. Mako and Ai looked at me oddly, but to my surprise Impmon just agreed…in English.
"Ya, no kiddin'."
"Wait a minute, you can speak English too?" I asked in English once again. He nodded and replied that he could speak a lot of languages. It just came naturally to them which I found very hard to believe. This guy knows everything from Spanish to Latin, to even Punjabi!
"Then I found a real purpose to you after all!" I cheered and told Impmon about my homework situation. The purple Digimon frowned and replied he doesn't do people's homework which made me a little annoyed. A good talent went to waste!
"Don't worry about him. He's just mad that he doesn't know how to read yet." Mako said picking up the soccer ball left on the yard. "Here you go Lindy."
"Thanks." I replied taking the ball and suggested lunch for the trio.
The twins and Impmon nodded their heads and scrambled inside. As I prepared my specialty of PBJ, I asked if Impmon always protects the twins. He replies as their partner he has to and there Ai and Mako explained some of their adventures with Impmon. In the end of their story, I was cleaning their dishes and drinking my glass of water hoping to calm down. It was incredible that I appeared to be so composed in this situation. To be honest, I was about to have a panic attack. My heart was beating out of my chest and I was still gaining control over my shaking legs. This was a little too much!
"Hey, what's this?" Impmon asked holding my dark green I-pod in the air. Usually, I would never let anyone-or anymon touch it. In normal circumstances, I would yell at him to leave my stuff alone. But, making peace and keeping an eye on this guy seemed a smarter plan to just arbitrary piss him off.
"My ipod. Go ahead, use it." I said as I turned it on and put the head phones in his ears, much to his discomfort. I explained the buttons and he went on his way listening to Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park. I smiled a bit and suggested to Ai and Mako a movie to watch. They agreed and picked out Ice Age. Good movie since it was Christmas time soon. I suddenly thought about the children and their parents being away for Christmas. That's pretty harsh, I mean-my mom is away for most Christmas but just the morning and my dad is there all day with me. We usually bake some cookies, or I open my stocking. I should spend it with these guys, they need it more than my family does.
As the movie played on, I noticed that the kids were getting sleepy a bit. I just shrugged and went on upstairs to get some stuff of mine unpacked. I decided to place my bedroom where Mr. and Ms. Haruki slept in the grande bedroom. I looked around and located Impmon at the stairs still listening to my ipod. I should just wave good-bye to it because it looked like he was enjoying the music on it. I had just loaded a whole bunch of new songs too...
I finished unpacking in my temporary room and went back downstairs. I looked again and saw that the twins were sleeping peacefully. I thought this was a good time to call up my friends and talk to them. I wouldn't mention the whole Impmon part but it's been ages since I talked to them. I started to head up the stairs and jumped over Impmon who didn't notice me. I perked my ears to hear him listening to another Linkin Park song. That little guy sure likes that band.
"Hey, Katrina. Yeah I'm fine you?" I talked quietly in the room to one of my best friends from Canada.
The discussion went for about an hour until I had to go. I told my friend I had to leave to make sure the twins were okay. After I hung up the phone, I tip toed down stairs soon and found Impmon curled up next to the couch, beside the twins fast asleep. Okay, that was pretty adorable. My I-pod was on the stairs with the power off and ear buds wrapped around it. I took the object and turned it on. I cranked up the volume and nodded my head to the music. I looked outside and realized that it was getting pretty dark and the kids were going to get up soon from their nap. I should figure out dinner.
"Matsuki Bakery, how may I help you?" I heard the voice say on the phone. I looked in the phone book a million times for some pizza and this was the closest thing to it. I could have cooked some rice that Mr. and Ms. Haruki left but I thought some pizza would be better.
"Hi, can I have a large double cheese pizza?" I asked timidly. Why was I still nervous speaking Japanese still? Argh! After a few more minutes on the phone, I was relieved that the pizza would be here in ten minutes. They must have a car or something because the bakery was about twenty minute run. I should have more confidence in my communications-I am a natural at learning languages.
"Lindy, who was that?" asked a sleepy voice. I turned around to meet the twins rubbing their brown eyes. I thought I would die of how adorable they were. I just smiled and explained to them about getting pizza on the go. Ai and Mako were a little...confused to hear pizza. I explained,
"It's a daily diet for a Canadian like me. Think of it like your rice. You guys eat a lot of rice-we eat a lot of pizza!" I was still confused on the customs that the Japanese do, but I might as well show them what Canadians do. To be honest, we do not always eat pizza-but it was better than them thinking all Canadians eat was maple syrup. Or eat snow.
The doorbell finally rang and I rushed to the door with money in hand. I opened it to reveal a boy around thirteen, carrying the pizza. He had brown messy hair with a pair of odd blue and yellow goggles on his head. He wore a blue sweater with dark pants and gloves since it was becoming chilly outside. I was confused when I noticed that there was no car and I looked around for one.
"Haha, what did you do fly here?" I joked but I stopped laughing when I saw it. I could have sworn the Godzilla movie was based off of this guy when I saw the red dinosaur. I wanted to scream, but the boy cut me off and explained to me he was a good guy. This was when I thought he could have been a Digimon.
"Yeah, he's name is Guilmon…say how did you know about-oh, hey Impmon." The boy looked behind me and saw the imp like Digimon. I started to remember Impmon explaining about a boy named Takato who had a Gulimon.
"You must be Takato right?" I asked. He nodded and I introduced myself as Lindy Rose. Takato had a little hard time pronouncing it, but after a few times he got it.
"Hey pineapple head!" exclaimed Impmon to the red dinosaur Digimon. "Anything going on lately?"
"Well, Takatomon and Jeri got together and are doing this thing called dating." Said Gulimon but was shut up by Takato sitting on Guilmon and telling him to be quiet with a beet red look on his face.
"Aw, that's sweet." I said politely, laughing in my head. How funny it must be having that dinosaur knowing about your romance life? We said our goodbyes and I saw how Takato got here and it quickly made sense given the lack of car. Guilmon glowed bright yellow until he grew into a giant dinosaur and Takato got on him. I stood there mouth wide open and closed the door. Just how big can Digimon get?
"Get used to it toots." Impmon called walking way, but I flicked him with my spare hand.
"Wanna rephrase the toots part, Impy?" I smirked at my clever nickname for him as he growled. I set the pizza down and got out some plates and glasses.
"What do you guys want to drink?" I asked. Ai said orange juice while Mako said grape juice. Impmon said alcohol in English.
"Haha Impmon, funny. Want some Tequila or Rum?" I asked in English. He replied with a shot of Tequila no training wheels of course in English so the twins could not understand it.
"Smartass." I scowled in English.
Dinner was peaceful-well trying to fight for a slice of pizza with a eating monster freak kind of peaceful. I managed to grab two slices. Ai and Mako did not seem phased by the rudeness of Impmon-they were amused and calm about it as I scolded him for stealing Ai's slice. If I was that age and a imp was eating my pizza I would be crying by now! We finished our dinner and the twins and I cleaned up the plates. The twins had a couple of hours to work on homework and play games until I announced it was bedtime.
"Okay, guys you better be tired. Go brush your teeth and all of that good stuff." I instructed as I scooted them up the stairs. Bedtime was here finally. After only my first day on the job, I felt exhausted. Impmon followed the twins along but not before smirking at me and I felt like the purple imp was up to something.
