A storm raged on in New York City.

Miranda watched as the hard rain hit her office window. The Book was held in her hands. Her arms crossed over her chest pressing it against her. Her head tilted to the side causing her silver bangs to fall away from her eyes. Nigel was the priority at that moment. The Book had too many mistakes. She needed perfection if one day Nigel was going to take over. There was no chance that he would be given passes if his work held any sort of shortcomings. The higher ups would lung at the first opportunity to fire him, to prove that Miranda's choice was wrong.

So she turned around and began to move through her office heading for the door. Before she could even reach it, it swung open to show her new assistant. A poor girl with princes blond hair and no backbone. That would change in time, however, this world was not meant for the ones that were too afraid to fight.

Miranda stopped where she was and gave the girl a look over trying to asses her state of dress. Old habits die hard she supposed.

Then the girl's high pitched voice bombarded her ears. "Mir- Miranda." The girl spoke. In her hand was a steaming cup of coffee that Miranda had asked for twenty minutes ago.

Miranda kept from snapping at the girl and gave her a dismissive nod. "Place it on my desk. That is all." She said as she walked passed the girl.

She heard the girl hurry behind as the door closed.

Her heels clicked on the floor as she moved to Nigel's office. She passed Emily's desk and noted that the woman was typing furiously on her computer. A phone was balanced between her ear and shoulder.

"Yes, I know that this is short notice, but I need those headshots today by 3:00. I know it's 2:30. Bloody hell." She snapped. Her eyes gave a quick glance to Miranda and her head bowed down to show that she had everything under control. Miranda knew that she did. As a matter of fact, she was sure that she was going to get those headshots in the next fifteen minutes.

Miranda turned the corner seeing the glass doors of Nigel's office at the end of the hallway. He was not alone to Miranda's confusion. She had not been told that he had an interview with a model. This was all a rather strange turn of events. The closer she got to the office the more she realized that wasn't the case. The woman was too short. Her outfit clearly showing that she was dressed for practicality not to wow an editor of one of the biggest fashion magazines.

Then she noted smaller details like the shade of brown the woman's hair was. The way that it shifted in the light turning it almost gold. She knew that hair no matter where she went. There was only one person who had such hair. Hair that Miranda had so desperately wanted to weave her fingers through. She felt her heart contract in her chest. Her hands began to shake and for a moment she considered turning around. She couldn't face the woman who was in Nigel's office. Miranda wasn't ready, there were too many things that had been left unsaid between the two women.

Then she looked past the ghost from her past. Nigel was sitting at his desk. His head was in his hands and she could see his shoulder shaking. He was crying.

Before Miranda could turn and hide in her office, he looked up. His eyes landed on her almost instinctively.

Miranda couldn't breathe. Her arms dropped to her side and she stumbled back a few steps. She could see it on his lips how he called out to her. The woman in his office turned around and Miranda felt her entire body run cold. The woman looking back at her was not a ghost, but someone who resembled it. Her eyes were a deep brown that easily showed emotions. However, this time she could only see the fire that lit them. Other things set Miranda off and proved her wrong. This woman's nose was slightly larger, her lips fuller and her skin sun-kissed.

Nigel shot up from his desk. He held the woman back as she tried to reach for the door.

It wasn't enough. Miranda saw the woman push him aside and throw the door open. Her face contorted in a snarl and she finally spoke.

"You did this..." She hissed.

All Miranda could do was step back. Trying desperately to find the strength to run back to her office. It was those damn eyes that kept her rooted to the spot.

God those eyes, they are just like hers.

"Elizabeth!" Nigel called out. The woman didn't listen. She pushed on and for a moment Miranda thought the woman would lunge at her.

Miranda found her voice. "I don't know what you want, but this is not the place." Miranda shot back. She felt her back straighten and a chill ran down her spine. Her ice blue eyes narrowed and she felt something in her chest snap. She was not going to be yelled at in the middle of her kingdom. Not today, not by some stranger. A stranger who reminded her of regret, hurt, and guilt.

"You bitch!" Elizabeth screamed. She lunged.

Miranda stood steadfastly and was ready for whatever it was the woman would throw at her.

Then Nigel grabbed her. His arms wrapped around her waist and slammed the girl against his chest. She woman began to cry. Trying with all her might to get his hands off of her.

"No! Let me go! This is all her fault!" She was sobbing now. Somehow Nigel turned her around. The woman banged her fist against his chest. His hand reached up to the back of her head to try and calm her.

Miranda couldn't stand the sight of the woman. Her eyes were too much like her ghost. Too much like someone that she used to know. Those big brown eyes filled with tears took her back, she felt her heart break all over again. It was like her body was in the past. She dropped the book and reached out for the girl. The need to comfort her was overwhelming.

She lost the chance to do it a long time ago. She wasn't going to lose it again now.

"You have to make it okay. Please make it okay." Elizabeth wailed. The sound made Miranda's heart strain in her chest.

Nigel looked past the woman and stared at Miranda. His eyes pleaded with her to stay back. This wasn't hers. He was the one to deal with it. Miranda wanted to fight that, but she knew he was right. So she backed away.

His voice was low and soothing to both women. "Shh...It's going to be okay. Calm down she is going to be fine. She'll wake up soon."

Slowly the fight began to drain out of the woman. She held onto Nigel like he was the only person keeping her from drowning.

Miranda's hand clutched her necklace for the same reason. She needed something to ground her. When she spoke she spoke softly and with as much care as she could.

"What is going on Nigel. Please tell me." In the end, her voice was pleading.

Nigel looked down at Elizabeth and took a deep breath. His arms tightened around her. "This is Andrea's sister." He said.

Miranda felt like the floor underneath her was about to give out. The world began to spin and her heart pounded in her chest. She could feel her hands begin to tremble. Then it all made sense, the deep brown eyes and the thick brown hair. Something in her began to break. Even without knowing what had caused all this, she knew that Andrea was in danger. She could feel in it the way her heart shuddered and her blood ran cold.

No matter the case, Miranda was a smart woman. She could connect the dots.

"What happened to her?" Miranda begged. Her entire body was shaking and the fear that she had felt seconds ago was replaced with desperation.

Elizabeth sobbed harder. Her long nails threatening to rip Nigel's three-piece suit. When she was finally able to calm down long enough to breathe her body tensed. She shut her eyes tightly until it was painful. She was trying to desperately settle her raging mind. Thoughts that made her entire soul ache banged against her skull. She was going to lose her family.

Now she was standing in front of Miranda. The woman that had caused all this hurt. All this despair that was ruining her and Andrea's life.

When she was finally able to reel in her emotions enough to function she pushed away from Nigel. Her eyes were set in stone and any light that had been there was gone. As she walked past Miranda she stopped.

The women were shoulder to shoulder. Elizabeth staring down the hallway and Miranda looking at Nigel for answers.

"I want you to know that if she dies. It's on your head." She let those words dangle over the Dragon Lady's head. Then she left.

Miranda could only stand there. The Book was on the floor, pages bent from where it lay open.

Nigel walked up to her. His hands already up to embrace her. She fell into him immediately. Her body trembled and for a moment she thought that she would break right there.

"What happened to Andrea?" Miranda said brokenly.

Nigel took a deep breath and began to stroke the back of her head. When he spoke his voice was low in her hear and she could hear the tears that came with it.

"She was in an accident. There's a chance that she might not make it."
