Ch 2: Job Interview
The next day, Helga woke up early, put on her nice pink dress with white shoes, grabbed her purse and resume and headed to the company that will soon belong to Arnold.
It has been years since I've seen that football head. I wonder how much he has changed? I wonder if he will remember me?
As she walked up the front gate, a security man with a big nose and skinny body walked up to her and said "I'm sorry ma'am but you cannot enter this place without a proper ID." He had a southern accent. A very familiar accent.
"It's me Stinky. Helga."
Stinky looked at her in a disgusted look and squinted his eyes. "Huh. Well I guess you're right. Welcome back Helga. What are you doing here?"
Helga getting a bit frustrated replied "I am here for a job interview. I heard they were looking for an assistant and I am here to take that job."
Stinky smiled and let out a laugh. "Hahaha! Well I'm sure you are Helga. With that look, you'll need all the luck you can get. There are a lot of beautiful women there looking for this spot and you have a low chance of getting it."
Helga now frustrated grabbed Stinky's uniform shirt and said "Listen here bucko. I'm not here to impress anyone. I'm not here to be a dumb bimbo like those other girls you see here. I'm just here to get a job and soon leave this town for good."
Nervously, Stinky gulped and said "A-alright Helga. Go on inside." Helga let go of Stinky, straightened her dress and walked inside.
The company was huge! It was very clean and spotless. So organized. Helga slowly walked into the reception and noticed another familiar face behind the desk. Her long, straight, flowy, black hair gave her the clue.
"Hello there princess."
The girl quickly looked away from a mirror she was holding and looked at Helga. Her dark eyes covered in makeup opened wide and her face formed a disgusted look. "Eww! Get away from me!" Helga not impressed with her reaction stepped closer and looked at her with a straight face.
"Wait. Is that you? No no. It can't possibly be. Helga?"
"It sure is princess. Now tell me where I need to go for the interviews."
Rhonda took a deep breath and replied "Go into the elevator behind you and press the number 2. Then go and take a seat with the other girls in the waiting room. I will notify the owner that you're...here. But my goodness. What in the world happened to you? You look hideous."
Helga rolled her eyes and sighed. She turned around and went inside the elevator. As the doors closed, she looked at Rhonda whose face was still in disgust while she made the phone call.
"Hey Arnold. You'll never guess who is here to get that job," said Rhonda as the elevator left the first floor.
Upstairs, Helga almost tripping outside the elevator, looked around and noticed a girl sitting in the waiting room. She quickly recognized that face. Connie. The girl Arnold went to a dance with back in elementary school. Helga took a deep breath and sat in a chair across from her. It was the only one available. She glanced at the other girls, who clearly were nervous, and noticed they were all beautiful.
Who cares if they're pretty? This is not a job to see who is prettier. I'm sure Arnold would not be interested in them anyway. I know I'm not interested in him...anymore.
Deep in thought, Helga did not notice Connie staring at her.
"Connie and Helga?" said yet another familiar voice. Helga looked up and noticed it was Nadine. Her hair was put up in a nice bun and was a wearing a very nice and smooth women's business suit.
Both Connie and Helga got up and looked at each other a bit. Connie stared up and down at Helga, adjusted her breasts and walked in front of her swaying her hips from side to side. Helga could not stand her. She adjusted her dress and walked behind Connie. Before reaching the door, Connie looked at Helga and said "Good luck loser. You'll definitely be needing it."
Helga rolled her eyes and entered the room. Slowly entering, she felt her heart beat faster and her stomach forming butterflies. Her vision went in slow motion as she looked up and noticed a very familiar and warm smile.
"Hello ladies. Helga. It has been awhile since I have last seen you."
"Uh...y-yeah. It has been a long time Arnold." Everyone in the room looked familiar to Helga but the one that stood out to her the most was the young lady sitting next to Arnold. Her blood boiled as she looked over at her.
"Ruth," said Helga under her breath. What was SHE doing here? Why is everyone she knows working here? It feels like no one left town and it was back to the old days. Arnold had told the two girls to take a seat across from him and to relax because this interview was going to be go by smoothly. That is what Helga was hoping for.
"So I see Connie went to a very prestige school for two years, is that right?" asked Arnold holding her resume. Connie smiled and nodded in agreement. She was definitely proud of that achievement.
"I also speak a bit of Spanish," added Connie. Ruth smiled at her as if telling her to keep going. Helga sat there quietly, staring at Arnold.
He hasn't changed a bit. He's still the same caring guy I used to know.
"Helga."
"Huh? What?" Helga shook her head clearing out her thoughts.
"I said, that you have traveled to many countries and have gained experience from almost around the world. That's pretty impressive," said Arnold giving her a smile.
Helga could feel her cheeks blush. "Th-thank you. I learned to speak a bit of the languages from the places I visited but I'm fluent in French, Spanish, and Japanese."
Connie gave her a dirty look. "Well I went to a prestige school for two years so I definitely have an education unlike others."
"I'll look more into your resumes ladies. Thank you for your time," said Arnold stacking both resumes together.
Before leaving the room Helga overheard Ruth tell Arnold to hire Connie over her because everyone knew "Connie has such elegance and could a great reputation to our company."
Maybe they won't hire me. Maybe I don't have a chance to work with Arnold.
