Chapter 2 – Safe at last

Characters may get OOC so be warned :D

Sun Quan noticed that the young poet had fallen asleep on his lap, her light walnut hair cascading down her shoulders. He gently twirled her locks in between his fingers and smiled at how soft they were. Looking up at the moonlight as it slowly descended to make way for the dawn, the young tiger decided to return to Wu. But the young maiden was still near him,

"Can't just leave her out here!" Sun Quan thought as he gently picked her up bridal style and called forth his white steed. It trotted to him obediently,

"We have to get her back to Wu. She'll be safe" Sun Quan said to the steed as he mounted with Wenji. Gently kicking the sides of his horse, Quan rode off towards Wu.

After sneaking into Wu…

Sun Quan carried Cai Wenji up towards his private chambers which were located deep within the encampment. He then gently placed her upon his king sized bed and lit a fresh candle to shed a source of light,

"She feels cold, poor thing" He thought as he noticed her slightly shivering. Swiftly he grabs his fleece from the end of the bed and drapes it over the top of her,

"That'll do for now…" before Quan seemingly fell asleep next to her.

The next morning Sun Quan woke up to soft stringed notes of delicate sound, a sound only a graceful angel would cast. Opening one eye wearily, he caught sight of Cai Wenji at the edge of the bed, playing a melody on her harp. Hearing rustling coming from the bed, she stopped and turned round, only to see a pair of green eyes stare back at her with great tenderness,

"Oh…did I wake you?" said Cai Wenji setting her harp down,

"Nope you didn't…" began Sun Quan sitting up and propping the pillow behind him only realising he was fully clothed from the night before,

"Brother!" yelled a familiar voice. Sun Shangxiang burst into her brother's chambers in a joyful mood,

"Shangxiang!" Said Sun Quan before she glomped him. Cai Wenji stifled a laugh,

"Liu Bei let me visit here for a while, said he had some stuff to sort out…" explained Shangxiang before seeing Cai Wenji "Whose this?"

"Oh I'm Cai Wenji, my lady" replied Cai Wenji, doing a small bow of curtesy,

"But you're from Wei! Brother, what's going on?!" moaned Shangxiang as she leapt off him,

"I have a plan…after what Dong Zhuo did to her, I fear the worst. That's why she's staying within Wu" explained Sun Quan

"Are you absolutely sure about this brother? You do realise how much damage Wei has done to us?" Shangxiang pouted with hands on hips.

"It'll be fine sister. Trust me" replied Quan, smiling,

"Trust…yeah right…" thought Shangxiang,

"I'm gonna go find Lianshi, so I'll see you later!" said Shangxiang, trotting off.

"I'm sure you have a plan don't you?" asked Cai Wenji worryingly as Quan seemingly got closer to her.

"Worry not my dear flower. I won't let anything happen to you…ever"

"You seem very confident…after what's happened I mean…that tragedy that befell your father and brother" said Cai Wenji. Quan blinked

How did she know?

"After all that pain, you still bare your fangs, not for war, but because you want to protect what they have earned in the past, your comrades and your home" explained the fair maiden, strumming her harp in a melancholy way.

"What are you trying to say, my….lady" asked Quan, still unsure why this young maiden was speaking in riddle.

"That's why I want to protect you as much as you want to protect me" said Cai Wenji, the strumming becoming happier
