Chapter 2: Native Lands Part 1

In a flash, they landed on solid ground, but their clothes were different. Ken wore black and red shorts, a dark gray shirt and small plates of armor on his shoulders. Alex was wearing dark blue shorts and a thin red hoodie. Sarah wore not so long shorts, a purple dress, and fingerless gloves. They looked around and even admired their new clothes.

"Must've been Donald's magic." said Alex.

"Great," said Ken. "Where are we?"

"Looks like a forest of some kind. Like before civilization settled in."

"Native Americans?" asked Alex.

"Perhaps. Let's explore!" she said.

As they walked, they admired the woods around them, taking in the fresh air and the scenery. It looked so beautiful, so peaceful, so majestic. Walking more, they heard a waterfall roaring and ran to get some water. Arriving, Ken extended his hands and made them stop. They all quickly hid as they heard a man and woman talking.

"My name is Pocahontas."

"I am John Smith."

Ken took a peek and saw a blonde haired man in silver armor talking to a woman with extremely long black hair and look tan. Her lips were bigger than he has seen and she wore a blue necklace, probably an old item of hers. As they talked, Ken accidentally snapped a twig and stood still behind the tree. John Smith took his gun and aimed it near them.

"Show yourselves! Now!"

They all walked from behind the tree's, arms held high. When Smith and Pocahontas saw them, he lowered his gun and eyed them carefully. He kept his gun up and walked toward them, carefully examining them. As he finished, he stepped back and kept his gun up.

"Who are you strangers?"

"Umm..." said Ken. "I'm Ken. This is Alex and Sarah. We're not exactly from around here."

"I can see that. You don't look like savages and you definitely aren't any of my men. How'd you get here?"

"It's complicated."

"Indeed. Tell me Ken, why are you here?"

"Just... exploring. We mean no harm."

"We'll see abou-" he stared at the ground. "What are they?!"

They all looked and saw small black shadow like creatures emerging. They were small, had beady yellow eyes, antenna, and little claws. The trio waved their arms and their Keyblades came forth, ready for battle. They charged at the creatures and began swinging. Their clothes gave them increased agility, making them seem like pros. A single swing made the creatures disappear in black smoke. When the last was gone, John and Pocahontas looked amazed.

"How did you do that?" asked Pocahontas.

"Skill. Just skill." said Alex.

"What were they?" asked Smith.

"I'm guessing Heartless." said Sarah. "They eat away at the darkness in people's hearts. The more evil you are, the easier it is for them to take your heart."

"Sounds like balderdash." said Smith. "But I have to believe it. That was impressive. Maybe the Virginia Company could use men like you."

"Umm... who?" asked Ken.

"Later. Come on."

Later on, Smith, Pocahontas, and the trio were sitting by the tree, talking about themselves. It was quite amusing for Ken to see Pocahontas trying to understand Smith's basic ways. It got funnier when Meeko the raccoon took off with Smith's compass. John ruined the fun time when he referred to Pocahontas and her people as 'savages'.

John chased after her when she took off and Ken, Alex, and Sarah followed. As they climbed a tree, they couldn't understand what was wrong with him calling her a savage. Alex brought out a laugh when John broke a branch and fell out of the tree. Pocahontas climbed down and took his hand, trying to explain about themselves.

"You think I'm an ignorant savage." she began to sing. "And you've been to so many places, I guess it must be so."

Ken and the others looked at them with confusion. Was singing normal in this world? When her singing picked up, she and Smith began traversing the woods and even jumping down cliffs and waterfalls. She was explaining about "The Colors of the Wind." It was confusing to them, but they didn't question it. When the singing was done, John and Pocahontas looked at each other like lovers and got close. Then a sound was heard.

"Drums. They mean trouble. I shouldn't be here." said Pocahontas.

"I want to see you again." he said as she began to run.

"I can't."

"Please don't leave."

"I'm sorry. I have to go." she disappeared into the forest. When she was gone, John looked depressed and looked at them.

"Come on you guys. I'll introduce you to Governor Ratcliffe."

They didn't argue and followed him in the opposite direction that Pocahontas was going. John got his gun and held it up, in case Heartless came after them. As they traveled through the woods, they were attacked by multitudes of Heartless. John killed a few with his old style gun, but he got the job done. Ken and his friends got most of them, which surprised Smith even more.

Soon, they arrived at a small camp occupied by similar men in armor. A tall man wearing a purple suit stood at the top of a hill, overlooking everything and holding a small gray Pug. Beside him was a goofy looking fellow who wore yellow. As the man saw them, he began walking down, the goofy man following every step. When he got down to them and Smith, he gave a grim face.

"Smith. Where were you?"

"Governor Ratcliffe sir, I was... surveying the area for savages."

"Yes, very good." he looked to the trio. "Who are these... people?"

"Some friends of mine. I want to consult with you about them joining the Virginia Company."

"Can they fight?"

"You bet we can!" yelled Ken. "Anyway, I'm Ken. This is Alex and Sarah."

"A pleasure, I'm sure. WIGGINS!" the goofy man came running over. "Take Percy and give him his bath."

"Righto, sir!"

Wiggins took the pug called Percy from Ratcliffe's arms and ran up to their ship. Ratcliffe looked at the trio and didn't even smile.

"I've seen worse. They may join if they so choose. Now I ha-" he stopped when he heard a twig break. "SAVAGES! ARM YOURSELVES!"

Ken looked to the tree's and saw shirtless tan people like Pocahontas shooting arrows at them. The trio got behind cover and waited it out. As Ratcliffe grabbed a gun, he was nearly shot by a tumbling man wearing a hat.

"You idiot!" he shouted.

Ratcliffe was able to shoot a savage in the leg, which made the rest of them retreat. He walked away and looked down at the man.

"Be careful how you use that thing Thomas!" As Thomas looked glum, he saw black spots in the ground.

"What in the world?" he said.

Helmet wearing Heartless came above and danced around, eager for a fight. A flash appeared and the trio had their Keyblades in hand. Helping Smith, they took care of the new Heartless without much trouble. When the last one vanished, Ratcliffe walked over, somewhat amazed.

"Impressive you lot. Virginia Company could use fighters such as yourselves."

"Uh, thanks?" said Alex.

"I hereby issue you as Privates. May you make the Virginia Company proud."

"Thanks Governor."

He gave a smug grin and left for his tent at the top of the hill. Days passed before the fort was finally built. Ken, Alex, and Sarah were snoozing when Ratcliffe approached them.

"You three? Have you seen Smith around?" he ordered.

"No sir. Probably got scared by the red head soldiers singing." said Sarah.

"Well, go get him for heavens sake!" he yelled.

The three stood up quickly and shouted "Yes sir!" They quickly ran out of the camp and began their search, eliminating Heartless as they went. It didn't take long before they picked up John Smiths trail and began following the tracks. As they made their way, they heard barking in the background, a sign that something must've happened to the pug called Percy.

It was near afternoon before they found Smith. They were hiding behind a tall tree while seeing Smith and Pocahontas talking on a tree stump. Listening in, Smith was asking about Gold and if her people had some. In short, they didn't. At that point, Smith stared at the tree and was taken aback.

"Did you see something?" asked Pocahontas.

"No, no. I just... I didn't see anything. Did I?" he asked her.

"Look again," she smiled. The tree began forming a face and it was singing.

"Let it break upon you like a wave upon the sand." the tree had an old woman type of face. "Hello John Smith."

"Pocahontas, the tree is talking to me."

"Then you should talk back."

"Does everyone in this world sing?" asked Alex. Before anyone could answer, all three were being lifted up by vines that originated from the tree. They yelled mercifully and were looking right into the tree's face.

"Who are you three strange creatures?" yelled the tree.

"Grandmother Willow, stop! They are our friends." said Pocahontas.

"Friends?" she said shocked. "Oh, I am sorry dears. I don't trust many people. If young Pocahontas says your friends, I believe her." Her vines let them down and they landed near the water.

"Were you spying on us?" asked Smith.

"Ratcliffe ordered us to find you Smith. Been searching a long time though." said Alex.

"Really? Then maybe I should go before he gets the whole camp coming after me." he said as he stood up. Pocahontas grabbed his hand.

"When will I see you again?"

"Meet me tonight, right here."

With that, the four quickly ran off, leaving Pocahontas and Grandmother Willow alone. As they walked, they encountered new Heartless that were shaped like wolves. They posed no problem, but they had a new visitor. A friendly raccoon came from behind and hitched a ride as he waved behind him to a log with legs. As they returned, Ken stepped on a twig and Thomas pointed a gun at them.

"Easy Thomas, it's us." said Smith.

"Oh, John! I could've killed you."

"Not with aiming like that you wouldn't." he said as he patted Thomas on the back and entered camp.

"SMITH!" yelled Ratcliffe, who was enraged. "Where have you been?"

"I was out scouting the terrain sir."

"Excellent. Then you must know the Indians' whereabouts? We will need that information for the battle."

"What battle?" asked Sarah.

"We will eliminate these savages once and for all!"

"No!" You can't do that!" yelled Ken.

"Oh, can't I?"

"We don't have to fight." said Smith. "I... I met one of them."

"A savage?"

"They're not savages. They can help us. They know the land. They know how to navigate the rivers." Smith pulled out some corn and showed it to the men. Ratcliffe intervened.

"They don't want to feed us you ninnies! They want to kill us! All of us! They have our gold! And they'll do anything to keep it!"

"There is no gold!" said Alex. Everyone gasped.

"And I suggest your Indian friend told you that, eh Smith?"

"Yes," he said strongly.

"LIES! LIES! MURDEROUS THIEVES! There's no room for their kind in civilized society!"

"This their land!" yelled Ken.

"This is MY LAND! I make the rules here! And I say anyone who so much as looks at an Indian without killing him on sight will be tried for treason and hanged!"

Ken wanted to show the man a lesson, but knew using the Keyblade for that reason was unwise. So, he and his friends drifted to sleep, not knowing what awaited the next day. As they slept, a gun shot was heard in the distance.

"What was that?" asked Alex.

"Smith?" suggested Sarah.

"Then he may be in more trouble then we realize."
