Adelaide walked home after she was dismissed from the governor's house. It was already dark and her mind was occupied with the unusually eventful day for Port Royal. With this being said it came to no surprise that she accidentally tripped and found herself on the ground.
"What is it with me today?" she asked no one in particular and brushed off the dust off her skirt before carrying on walking.
Will stopped hammering an iron ingot and raised an eyebrow when she finally arrived at the blacksmith's shop and presented herself with a ripped skirt and a cut knee.
"Adelaide, I hope you have not got yourself into a fight again. Are you alright?" he asked and wiped his sweaty hands on his apron.
"Yes I am alright and no I did not get into a fight. That was four years ago and you still fail to forget that," she said and followed him with her eyes. Will pulled a half empty bottle out of her father's hand and took hold of a clean cloth.
"Please sit down," he said, taking her right leg when she did so. "How did you manage to do that?"
"Tripped. Over that protruding tree root down Dock street. I swear, one day you will find that tree cut down by an anonymous well-wisher," it sounded like a threatening promise and Will smiled.
"Ah, Will!" she yelped once the alcohol-soaked cloth met the cut and the crouched down Will nearly fell if it wasn't for his hold on her leg.
He was about to make an apology when canon fire interrupted him and his attention was drawn to the window. He opened the shutter and peered out, quickly grabbing his axe and running to the door.
"Adelaide, I beg you. Stay out of trouble this time and do not go outside," he said, pleading her with his eyes. She wanted to protest, really badly in fact, but his eyes made her nod.
"I promise. Take care of yourself," she said and he was gone.
She was worried sick, pacing up and down the shop, throwing glances at her snoring father. Thankfully, none of the attackers found any interest in the Blacksmith's shop. Adelaide waited until the streets outside restored their peaceful silence and went outside to inspect the damage made. She suddenly gasped.
"Will!" she ran to his body and desperately felt for a pulse. She sighed in relief when she found one and began to look around, looking for anyone that could help. That was unnecessary.
"They've taken her! They've taken Elizabeth!" he shot up and said alarmingly, making her recoil her hands off him from the sudden fright.
"Will...? Will! Where are you going?" she asked, failing to keep up with the man who was suddenly on his feet and running. She stopped and watched from the distance. Will had a heated conversation with a group around a map and then stormed away angrily, axe in hand.
"Where now?" she asked exasperated.
"To the prison," he answered angrily and did not throw her a second glance as he rushed past her.
Jack was in the middle of his poor attempt to open the cell when he heard a sound and quickly took an innocent position on the floor.
"You. Sparrow."
"Aye?"
"You are familiar with that ship- the Black Pearl?" Will asked and Jack studied his nails.
"I've heard of it," came the unconcerned answer.
"Where does it make berth?"
"Where does it make berth? Have you not heard the stories? Captain Barbossa and his crew of miscreants sail from the dreaded Isla de Muerta . It's an island that cannot be found except by those who already know where it is."
Just as Jack finished speaking an out of breath Adelaide showed up behind Will, clutching the wall for support.
"The ship's real enough. Therefore its anchorage must be a real place. Where is it?"
Jack averted his eyes from the girl to Will.
"Why ask me?"
"Because you're a pirate," Will said as if it was the most obvious and convenient answer.
"And you want to turn pirate yourself, it that it?" Jack asked and Will clutched the bars angrily.
"Never!" he spat, then added helplessly, "They took Miss Swan."
"Oh, so it is that you've found a girl. I see... Well, if you're intending to brave all, hasten to her rescue and so win fair lady's heart you'll have to do it alone, mate. I see no profit in it for me," he said and Will's next words put a scandalized look upon Adelaide's face.
"I can get you out of here."
"How's that? The key's ran off," Jack acknowledged.
"I must interfere your conversation. Will, can I have you for a moment?" It was a rhetorical question. She roughly dragged Will away behind a corner and Jack strained to listen.
"Are you out of your mind? Did the blow on your head knock the senses out of you? You cannot just set him free," she said and Will regarded her silently for a moment.
"It's Elizabeth," he simply answered after some silence and resumed his location at the front of the bars.
"I helped build these cells. These are half pin-barrel hinges," he said and picked up a bench, placing it at the bottom of the cell door, "With the right leverage and the proper application of strength… the door will lift free."
Jack thought about if for a moment while Adelaide face slapped herself.
"What's your name?"
"Will Turner."
"Great. These days they just give the name away to random pirates," she grumbled and Jack made a mental note that he did not like her.
"That will be short for William, I imagine. Good, strong name. No doubt, named for your father, eh?"
Will frowned, "Yes."
Jack got to his feet.
"Uh-huh. Well, Mr. Turner , I've changed me mind. If you spring me from this cell I swear on pain of death I shall take you to the Black Pearl and your bonny lass. Do we have an accord?" he asked and offered Will his hand.
Adelaide had her arms crossed and was leaning against the wall. She looked at the scene with irritation. "Will, if you still want to hear my opinion-"
"Agreed," he cut her off and shook Jack's hand.
"Agreed. Get me out," Jack said, doing a gesture with his hands.
Will lifted the door free and Adelaide huffed.
"Hurry. Someone will have heard that," Will noted and Jack gave Adelaide an untrustworthy glare as he stepped around her.
"Not without my effects."
Thank you to everyone who read this story so far. I decided to tell Adelaide's background as the story unfolds. She is being ignored frequently because she is the logic behind all of events. Jack is too insane to hear logic out while Will it too Elizabeth obsessed. She will have more to say in the next chapter, I promise.
