Princess2Princess
Summary: Flora starts a program at Royal Prep called "Princess2Princess," which allows some of the younger princesses to spend a day with a chosen princess and get some guidance. (Follow up to "Princess Convention")
Disclaimer: "Sofia the First" is just wonderful; however, I own nothing of this delightful show… Ah, well. :)
A/N: So we had a ton of snow yesterday! It was rather exciting, especially since we get it so very rarely. My sister and I also got to play old games (N64—Mario Party 3). Talk about a blast from the past… So here's chapter two for you all. Enjoy!
Chapter 2: True to Yourself
*Ariel*
If ever she felt like a fish out of water, this was definitely one of those times. Ariel inwardly laughed at the irony as she approached the location she was told to wait. Luckily, she was outside under one of the large trees. Better to be outside than inside, she figured. That way, she wasn't confined to a room and could move about freely if she so desired—which, let's face it, she did.
She looked at the picture and description in her hand, observing the girl she'd chosen to mentor for the day.
"Clio," she read to herself. "'Princess of Corinthia… Likes girly things… Best friend is Hildegard. Sweet but easily swayed.' Hmm. Let's see what we can do about that." She blinked as she looked up, noticing that Fauna was leading the young girl over to her. She stood and smiled down at the girl. "Are you Clio?"
The brown-haired princess stared up at Ariel with her mouth hanging open. She was in shock. Ariel was one of her idols, so actually seeing her in person was about to make her faint. "I…"
Fauna laughed lightly. "She is," she responded for her. "She's just a bit, um, awestruck, I suppose."
Ariel smiled kindly. "I'm no different from you, sweetie." She took the girl's hand and pulled her down to the blanket that had been placed under the tree. She nodded toward the fairy. "Thanks, Ms. Fauna."
"Any time, Ariel. You two have fun!"
Clio stared at the red-haired princess and asked the first thing that came to her mind: "Is it true you were once a fish?" She paused and blushed, realizing that those weren't the words she'd intended to leave her mouth.
But still, the Atlantican native laughed. "Well…sort of. I was a mermaid, actually: half human and half fish. So you were…half right." She winked, easing the younger girl's apprehension. "You can relax, Clio. I'm not going to bite."
"Thank goodness… N-Not that I believed you would bite, but some of the princesses have tempers, from what I hear."
"Well, the main person who's set off my temper is my father, but I think most people are like that with their parents sometimes, hmm?" Seeing her shrug, she leaned against the tree. "So, what would you like to know?"
Clio pondered this. Ariel had been a bit of a role model for her for a long time, whether she knew it or not. She'd had so many questions at one point, but now it seemed that she was unable to formulate the words when she needed them. "Well, who are your closest friends?"
Ariel grinned. "Would you believe me if I told you a fish and a crab?" Seeing Clio finally relax and giggle, she nodded. "Yep. My friend Flounder is my best friend in the whole world… And even though he's a pesky little crustacean sometimes, I love my friend Sebastian. He's helped me out quite a bit in my life, and he's also been a guide for my daughter Melody."
"Oh! That's really nice. My best friend is Hildy—or Hildegard." She laughed. "I don't know if she likes it when I call her that, but she hasn't said one way or the other."
"You two are close then?"
"Uh, well…" She shrugged. "I hang out with her all the time. I'm a little more soft-spoken than she is, but we have a lot of things in common." She listed off the items on her fingers. "We both like to dress up, we both have fans, and we both…go to this school."
Ariel shook her head with a soft smirk. "You're really reaching for the stars there, aren't you?" She blew her bangs from her eyes and sat up straighter. "All right, let me ask you something." She maneuvered her legs to cross them together and placed her hands in her lap. "Do you two talk a lot?"
"Well…she does most of the talking. She knows everything." She shrugged. "If I don't know something, I ask Hildy. She always has the answer."
"Maybe, but I'm sure you know about a few things too. Clio, you seem like a sweet girl. Don't let yourself fade into the background, okay?"
Clio blinked, tilting her head obliviously. "What do you mean?"
'Oh, boy…' "What I mean is, it's nice to hang out with friends and want to be like them, but don't forget that you need to be yourself, too. Or rather, you need to have your own unique personality." She winked. "I know you're probably a pretty cool friend to have, right?"
She blushed modestly and smiled. "You think I'm…cool?"
"Sure! But make sure that you assert yourself a little more, and don't be just a sidekick. The best thing you can do for yourself, and even for your friends, is just completely put yourself out there and be the great person I know you are."
Clio smiled softly. "You just met me. How do you know I'm a great person?"
Ariel shrugged. "You haven't tried to coerce me into giving up my voice or anything silly like that, so I'd say you're already worlds better than some have been." She smiled as the girl giggled at her words. "By the way, do you like singing?" She stood and offered the younger princess her hand, pulling her to her feet.
"Do we live in enchanted worlds?" Clio returned with a grin, making Ariel laugh.
They walked off and chattered on about various things. Meanwhile, on the other side of the campus…
*Jasmine*
The princess of Agrabah reclined on Carpet as she watched the clouds pass by above her. She was near the steps of the school, and she'd earned quite a few surprised stares and whispers so far. Jasmine smiled knowingly, realizing these students had pretty well deducted her identity, and still they respected her privacy enough to leave her be…amazing. She was still teaching the guards how to do that.
She gazed at the information card she had on her charge, Hildegard. "Princess of Friezenburg. Very smart and bright, although sometimes aloof. Knowledgeable of traditional values and royal roles. Hard to impress." She smiled lightly. This should be interesting.
"Princess Jasmine?" Flora inquired as she approached with Hildegard near her side.
Jasmine sat up on her knees and nodded toward the headmistress. "Hello, Ms. Flora. How are you doing?"
"Very well, thank you." She smiled and nodded toward the smaller girl next to her. "I have your student ready to make your acquaintance."
Hildegard's eyes were wide, and for once, she wasn't saying a word. She couldn't find the words. Words had run away like Cinderella at midnight, but they didn't even leave a "glass slipper" behind to give her some sort of clue as to what to say to the princess before her.
"Can she…talk?" Jasmine waved a hand in front of Hildegard. "I know Ariel had that problem once."
Flora laughed. "She can talk. She just seems a bit…eh… Well, actually, this is the quietest I've ever seen her."
Hildegard finally snapped out of it and smiled nervously. "H-Hi, Princess Jasmine. I'm Hildegard."
"Oh, she speaks!" Jasmine grinned, making the other dark-haired girl relax visibly. "Ms. Flora, I think we'll be all right."
"Very well. If you should need me, I'll be in my office. You two have a good time." She waved and floated off into the building.
"Wow," Hildegard finally released with a bright smile. "The Princess Jasmine is at my school? Ooh, wait until I tell Amber!"
"Oh, Amber's here too?" Jasmine laughed at the look on the girl's face.
"You know Amber?"
"Blonde hair, about your height, is a bit of a worrywart, and likes to talk a lot?"
The princess of Friezenburg blinked in surprise before giggling. "That's Amber all right. But how do you know her?"
"Um, well…I met her and her sister Sofia one time as they were traveling to Tangu."
"That's strange. I don't recall seeing you while we were on the way there…" Seeing that Jasmine was probably not going to make any more mention of it (for obvious reasons), she shrugged. "Well, anyway, I'm very happy to meet you. I know all about you!"
"Oh, do you?" the older princess challenged with her hands resting on her hips as she still sat calmly on Carpet. "All right, then. What's my husband's name?"
"Aladdin," she answered easily with a smile.
"Hmm, too easy. Okay, what is the name of the companion of the man who used to be my father's advisor?" She folded her arms with a confident look on her face, predicting there was no way even this girl, who claimed to know everything about her, could guess the answer.
Hildegard blinked before tilting her head slightly and beaming. "Do you mean Iago, the parrot?"
Jasmine stared at the girl and shrugged. "Okay. You do know things about me. Great." She took her hand and pulled her onto the carpet with her. "By the way, this is Carpet. Carpet, meet Hildegard."
The purple companion waved a tassel amicably before lifting them from the ground.
"Where are we going?" the younger princess asked, seeming worried as they lifted higher and higher from the ground.
"On a ride," Jasmine answered with a grin as they soared away.
Riding in royal coaches was nothing compared to riding on a carpet, Hildegard confirmed. Of course, she'd done so before in the past, but there was something about riding with her favorite princess role model that made it more exciting. She squealed in excitement as they bolted through the clouds, the airy formations swirling and leaving a vapor trail behind them.
"Can we go any faster?" the smaller princess wondered in awe, slowly losing her sense of uneasiness.
"Oh, you want to go fast?" Jasmine grinned and tugged on Carpet's tassels gently. "You heard her, Carpet. Let's go!"
Hildegard laughed and smiled, enjoying her ride. She grasped onto her crown before it could blow away before they finally slowed and hovered over the school building. "That was amazing…"
"This is daily for me," Jasmine laughed and dangled her feet from the side of the carpet. "So tell me, what's this I hear about your being quite knowledgeable of…hmm, everything?"
She blinked, realizing Jasmine knew things about her as well. "Oh! Um, well, I actually… I know that I don't know everything. I even talked with a friend about that a few weeks ago… But I've made it a priority to know more than most kids, because people seem to like that. It's like they look up to me if I know more than they do. They like me better somehow."
"Hmm… You know, we're a lot alike. I like being right. I like knowing things." She folded her legs and scooted backwards so she could retain her balance. "But it doesn't come without a cost. Sometimes, you don't know as much as you think you do, and trying to can make you lose yourself in the course of it all."
"What do you mean?" Hildegard leaned slightly forward against Carpet, her hands holding her into a comfortable position.
"Well… I like helping people; I don't like listening to people a lot, though, because I often think I know better than they do." She waved a hand flippantly. "It's a character flaw." She smiled. "But when I'm wrong, I try to acknowledge it. I was wrong about Aladdin a few times. He'd pretended to be someone he wasn't, and I knew it and wasn't too thrilled with him. But I had to give him a chance, because I liked him—well, loved him, really." She shrugged. "And I realized he only pretended to be someone he wasn't to make me happy. You shouldn't change yourself for anyone, though, and that includes trying to boast about your knowledge to others, even if you are right."
"So…what you're saying is…I shouldn't try to know everything, because…?"
"It gets boring," Jasmine concluded with a smirk. "Besides, you can't know everything. People who say they do happen to be really annoying sometimes."
Hildegard laughed shyly. "That's sort of what my friend Sofia told me…"
The older princess smiled knowingly. 'Imagine that…'
"I've gotten better, though. I promise. If anything, I probably need to work on being nicer to people."
"Me, too," Jasmine admitted with a grin. "And it's not just because we're royalty that we act like that; it's because sometimes, some people just clash with our personalities, right?"
"Exactly! I swear you're like the only person who gets it." She giggled and folded her hands into her lap. "I guess I'm just a work in progress."
"We all are. And it's that continued progress that's going to make you a great queen someday."
"You really think so?"
Jasmine winked. "Without a doubt." She gently tugged on one of the tassels. "Carpet, let's head back now." She smiled at Hildegard. "When we get back, I'll introduce you to Genie." She laughed, seeing the look of wonder on the young girl's face, and assumed she was excited about the next encounter.
Obeying Jasmine's request, Carpet took off toward the school again.
Meanwhile, back at Royal Prep, Fauna guided Sofia toward the library and smiled when the young girl lit up.
"Belle?!" she gasped in elated glee.
The brunette smiled kindly. "Hello, Sofia…"
To be continued…
A/N: That's chapter two done! Next chapter will deal with Belle and Rapunzel. ;) I know you probably can guess how that will pan out, but I hope to surprise you all with some new ideas. The last two princesses/mentors will be in chapter four, and then everything will kind of come together afterward. While I'm working on "At First Sight," I just added a new story to my repertoire. :D I'm really excited about it, but I have to work out the details first to make it great. We'll see what happens. ~AquaTurquoise
CedricAmber: I took the other quiz! Here was my result:
"You are 81% fan of Sofia the First!
81%
Yeah, you love this show, you watch every new one and re watch the old ones but you don't do all the personal stuff. Try a bit harder and you'll be a top fan!"
Lol. Girl, if I bought all the merchandise, I'd be broke for three years. :p That stuff is expensive. I do have a few items, namely DVDs and some Sofia and Amber figurines (and even plushies), but if I find my holy grail of a Cedric doll… :D I'd be EXTREMELY happy. I'm still waiting! Haha.
