Also, someone on tumblr reviewed the first chapter of this story for me so I'm going to try to improve the quality of writing (just for you because I love you :3.) So sorry to rant! Enjoy!
Tess sat on the leather bench seat in silence as the Impala roared to life.
"So, kid?" Dean glanced at her through the rear view mirror, "What?" she said, meeting his eyes. "Well I did say I'd be hear to listen right? So how did it go?"
"Oh!...I uh...it was fine!" she said putting a fake smile on her face. She was not about to disappoint her brothers.
"Did you make any friends?" Sam turned to look at her. "Yea!" She nodded with the most forced smile ever plastered on her face. His face was soft and his shaggy hair brushed across his bright eyes. He looked so happy, how could she take that from him? Telling them what really happened, how she really felt, would only burden them. They were burdened enough, she could handle this herself. Who needs friends when you have music right?
When they walked into the motel room all she could think about is wanting some privacy, an impossible goal for there was only one room and a bathroom. There were two double beds, a fold out couch, and a cot for whenever John would be back. The walls were thin and the room was small.
"Hey Tess, Sam and I are going to pick up some dinner. Be back in a few okay?"
"Uh yea okay."
"Keep the door locked, keep it closed, and don't even move if someone knocks." Sam said, his serious, big brother expression taking over his usually kind, soft face. She rolled her eyes. Her brothers were a little overprotective, though a little is an understatement. If they had their way, she wouldn't be allowed to drink a glass of water alone because of the slight chance he would drown.
"Yea I know. But if they have a mariachi band, I can make no promises." And with that they were gone. Privacy had been achieved! She instantly went into the bathroom. It was pretty nasty, the mirrors were dirty, the sink hand shower had lines in it, and the toilet was unspeakable. She went to the full sized mirror on the back of the door and lifted her shirt up.
Fat. The word echoed in her head like a bad record on repeat. Past the grime of the mirror, all she could see was her wide hips. Fat. The nameless boy was right. How couldn't she see it before? All of the girls at school had narrow shoulders, small waists, narrow waists. She didn't know how long she stood staring into the mirror in disgust, but she did know she heard the motel door open so it must have been a while.
"Tess? I made dinner!" She heard Dean call from outside the bathroom. She sighed and dropped the front of her shirt and made her way out of the bathroom.
"You are such a liar." She said to Dean observing the takeout boxes that had been set on the pathetic little table.
"Shut up. Picking it up and cooking it is practically the same thing!" Sam and Dean both grinned as they sat down to eat. Tess just stared at the food in the box in front of her. Thinking about eating it made her sick to her stomach. It was so unhealthy. All it was going to do was sit in her stomach and turn into more fat. The smell made her cringe because it was so greasy.
"You know, I don't really feel all that hungry," she said taking a sip of water. Sam looked up at her, his face suddenly full of concern.
"Are you sure?"
"You gettin' sick kid?" Dean asked tilting his head slightly, his intense eyes looking back at her own.
"Yea maybe," she shrugged pushing away the box.
"Well maybe you should go try and sleep then." Dean stated, standing and closing your box.
Damnit...that isn't what I was going for. "Sure," she stood and walked to the couch, laying curled into the couch with her back facing them. She felt like the whole room was focused one her, she brothers gaze on her, she could hear the mirror in the bathroom mocking her, showing her her flaws. The springs of the couch were pressed uncomfortably into her side almost as if they were pointing out her imperfect body form.
Were hunters supposed to feel this way? She though she was strong. She though that nothing could get to her, but then again she never really faced any negativity from civilians before. Tess never really expected to have to. All she did was help her brothers and father fight the monsters that threatened the very people that threatened her. How could they do anything but thank her?
She supposed she fell asleep at some point for when she opened her eyes the sunlight from the window had filled the room and was hot on her face. She sat up to see a blanket had been draped over her and her brothers weren't in there beds.
"Sam? Dean?" Tess kicked the blanket off of herself and stood, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. She heard the creaking of the bathroom door opening and Sam emerged, fully dressed looking perfect. No wonder everybody loved him.
"Hey Tess. Dean went to go pick up some breakfast for us, I was just about to wake you up." He smiled and walked over to her ruffling her hair, then going over to his bed. Dean came in to the motel room yelling something along the lines of 'stay the hell away from baby!' and slammed the door.
"Who's hungry?" Dean asked as he set the bag of fast food on the table. "Me!" Sam yelled and made his way over to the bag of food, picking out two sandwiches as Dean did the same. It's wasn't fair! Why could they eat whatever they and stay long and lean with hard muscle climbing all up their body. If she looked at a doughnut she would get bloated.
"No thanks, I uh, had a granola bar while you were in the bathroom Sam, I didn't know Dean was getting breakfast."
Sam looked at her and Dean glanced up from his greasy breakfast sandwich "Yea okay, sorry I should have said something" Sam said and she shrugged. "It's fine, I'm gonna get ready..." She grabbed her bag and went into the bathroom, feeling the boys eyes on her the whole way.
"She seem a little weird to you?" Dean asked his brother after watching his sister walk away. "I don't know, I don't think we need to worry. Probably some teenage girl hormone thing." Sam answered. "I mean said school was fine so she probably just misses dad."
"Yea, you're probably right." Dean shrugged off his worries.
Tess sighed as she got dressed. Usually she wore fitted shirts and jeans but today she felt to aware of her body, and she didn't like that feeling. Instead she put on one of deans plaid shirts over a black cami, leaving it unbuttoned. She put on her faded jeans and converse and brushed her teeth, all the while listening to the boys conversation on the other side of the floral print walls. At least they weren't going to talk to her about it. She didn't think she could handle it. Her brothers wouldn't be able to understand. They both had perfect bodies, causing every girl in the room to fling themselves at them.
She had just finished French braiding her hair when a knock came on the bathroom door.
"Tess? We need to leave, or you'll be late." Oh heaven forbid that. I couldn't possibly imagine having t skip school. What a tragedy! That's what she wanted to say anyway but instead said "Yea 'm comin'!" She sighed and walked out, setting down her travel bag to pick up her school bag.
After she had gotten out of the Impala she made sure to not talk or bump into anyone. She was shrunk by all of the taller kids in the hall. "Why does everyone have to be so tall?" she muttered to herself. She got to her locker and already wanted to go home. The hall was so loud and crowded, it was all so overwhelming. Most people weren't as careful as she was when it came to not bumping into each other. One girl almost pushed her clear into her own locker. She sighed, grabbed her books, and headed off to her first class.
She wanted nothing more than to curl up on her bed at home by the time lunch came. She felt so alone, but she also didn't want to do anything about it. High schoolers were very quick to judge, and usually weren't to excepting of new people. She learned that all on her first day. Today the goal was to lay low, and get through the day. That wasn't to hard. Most kids didn't really care about her, they had more important things to worry about, like themselves.
Tess had thought about listening to music but decided to listen to the sounds of the birds chirping around her. She looked down on the dirt around her. Against the tree she was leaning on, she saw one bug pinned by others. The other bugs nibbled and ate the bigger bug. It was long dead, but that didn't keep her from cringing as she scooted away from the bug crime scene just as the bell screech. There ain't no rest for the wicked, she though to herself as she stood.
Just as soon as she was on her feet, she was pushed back on the ground. Her back and head slammed with a painful crack against the trunk of the tree. It took her a minute to gather her thoughts. The world was swimming around her and she saw stars. Yep, definitely a concussion... She looked up to see the same boy that had pushed her yesterday. This time she got a good look of him before he went off, laughing and high-fiveing his friends. He was no longer a faceless boy, but a tall, muscular, almost adult. If he wasn't a senior then the sky was made of squirrels.
She did her best to not look like she was going to hydro pump on whoever was in front of her or have her head explode and brain splatter on her classmates around her. Tess couldn't understand how Sam had done a hunt last month with a concussion. She couldn't even stand without wanting to lay down for the rest of eternity. Sam and Dean were definitely not going to know about this, for the kid that did this to her would leave wishing all he had was a concussion. That didn't last long though.
"Pull over," she said with force as she leaned against the door of the Impala with her arms around her stomach and her eyes closed.
"What? Why?" Dean glanced back at her in the rear view. "I can either vomit on Baby or outside," Tess said through clenched teeth. That caused his attention as he jerked the car onto the shoulder of the road. She opened the door quickly and stumbled into the woods on the side of the road. After emptying yesterday's breakfast she sat back and clutched her head. Sam had made his way next to her and was muttering quietly in her ear and rubbing her back.
"What the hell? What's wrong?" Sam tried to help her up but she stumbled back on the ground from being so dizzy.
"Hey. Look me in the eye." Dean forcefully lifted her chin to look him in the eyes. He stared with great concentration into her eyes.
"You have a concussion don't you?" Dean said with a hint of anger in his voice. Damn you dad and your stupid field tests. She nodded.
"Well, why the hell didn't you say anything?" Sam asked looking confused and possibly a little hurt.
"I just fell at school. Not a big deal, just didn't want you two to worry. Let me sleep and I'll be fine, yea?" She offered them a smile to let them know she was okay.
Dean sighed and squeezed her shoulder. "Yea whatever Squirt." They helped her up and into the car. Sam looked back at her. "Just make sure you tell us if something like this happens again alright?" She nodded. They have no idea...
