After walking on somewhat, Alice came across a small ride. There were several cars painted brightly, all following each other in a circle. All of them had spaces for children to sit in. Some even had a companion, all of them smiling and looking merry. It was still at the moment but the lights flashed and cheerful nursery rhymes blared from the speakers. Alice couldn't see anyone so she started to pass by.
"Hey! Hey you, jerk!" called a voice as she passed by the booth.
Surprised, Alice looked round to find a small boy glaring up at her. He was wearing a hat with a feather stuck in it. Similar feathers were attached to the cuffs. His trousers were a grey so his outfit seemed rather dismal compared to the rest of the park. He was looking up at Alice with triumphant blue eyes. Surprisingly, he looked like a miniature version of her brother.
"Are you talking to me?"
"Yes, jerk!"
"Excuse me!" huffed an indignant Alice. "That is very rude, you know!"
The boy just shrugged. "The great Peter wants you to go on his ride, jerk." He gestured to the small children's ride. "Don't just pass by it – acknowledge me!"
Alice stared at him with a blank expression for a moment as she processed what he had said. Then she glanced at the ride again before returning her attention to the boy. "Don't be stupid: I can't fit on that! Tell this 'Peter' that it was a lovely offer but I must decline." With that being said, she turned and walked off.
"Peter says you're a jerk!" shouted the boy after her.
She hadn't gone much further when she was accosted by four people who looked rather odd – though in this place she now knew that was a given. Firstly there was the black-haired and dark-eyed man. He wore spectacles and a kimono. Alice could see feathers at the bottom of it. The cap he was also wearing appeared to have a beak. As she approached, he bowed to her.
The next was a small boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. He appeared to be rather serious and Alice felt he would make a good reverend. After all, he was wearing a black hat and robe and she felt it was a religious garb. The hat had a little wooden duck attached to it and a green and purple necklace adorned his neck.
Beside him was a blonde man who was wearing brightly coloured clothes. Alice could barely look at him, so bright were his clothes. He had a bright pink top, bright red jeans, a bright orange hat, bright blue shoes and a bright green hair clip. It was like looking at a rainbow. He seemed to be shy, though and was peeking out from behind the last member of the group.
This man was wearing sunglasses with feathers attached and a brown coat slung over his shoulders like a cloak. He had dark hair and had an unamused expression, from what Alice could see. His arms were folded across his chest and he looked round at the first man.
"Hey, Kiku," he said. "Is this her now?"
"Hai," said the kimono-wearing man. "This is her."
"Like, she is," muttered the brightly-clothed one.
"If it is she then we should take her with us," said the boy.
For a moment, Alice tried to work out what they meant. Then she gave up and pushed it to the back of her mind. "Excuse me, but have you-?" she managed to say before the man with the sunglasses grabbed her arm. She could see the the light brown top he had on was connected from its side to its arms, giving him the appearance of having wings. "Ah! What are you-?" Without consulting her, he began to pull her towards the ride which had not been there a moment before. Alice could hear the splashing of water and make out some logs moving on a runway of sorts ahead.
"Like, it's time to go on the log flume," said the bright man as the rest followed on.
"I don't want to go on the log flume, thank you. I just need to-"
"Do not worry, Alice-san. We are going higher so perhaps you will find who you seek?"
"Ah, that's not necessary," Alice tried to protest. However, she found herself on the platform. The bespectacled man hopped in and she watched with trepidation as it wobbled. She frowned as he held out a hand. "I don't-"
"Do not just stand there, ma'am," said the boy. He brushed past her. "There is no time to hesitate." With that he hopped into the log and sat at the front.
Reluctantly, Alice took the proffered hand and let herself be guided onto the log. Shakily, she sat down. The man with the sunglasses steadied her but she shook him off. Kiku sat behind her, the brightly-coloured man sat behind him and the last sat behind everyone. Before Alice could have second thoughts, the log began to move. The clicking noise of the track could be heard as they slowly ascended.
Ignoring the others, Alice watched the park expand below her. There didn't appear to be an end. Rides continued into the horizon. The flashing lights annoyed her so she gazed up at the blue sky. There wasn't a cloud in sight.
When they reached the top, she glanced down – only to spot a flash of mint green below.
With a gasp she stood and stared down. The mint green thing was making its way past the log flume. "The Green Rabbit-!" she exclaimed, trying to turn around.
"Like, you're going to fall off," said the guy behind Kiku.
"Hai. Sit down, onegai," agreed Kiku. "The ride will be over soon. There is no need to hurry."
Abashed, Alice sat back down, wobbling slightly. The log finished its turn and soon sat at the edge of the slope. Alice gazed down at the path over the boy in front of her. It was definitely a long way down and she could see the vast pool of water they would hit. Her heart began to beat faster with anticipation of the fall and she gripped the sides of the log.
Then the log tipped and they sped downwards. The wind whipped Alice's hair behind her – she presumed that it was hitting Kiku. Finally, they reached the bottom and the log splashed into the water. However, the force of the log hitting it caused a tidal wave to engulf all of the occupants of the log. Alice gasped as she was drenched.
She was shivering by the time the log stopped at the platform again. For a moment, she stayed seated, frozen. However, when the others began to stand and vacate the log, she followed suit. Biting back some harsh words to the people who had gotten her so wet, she rushed off without a backwards glance. She mustn't lose him.
In the distance she could still make out a flash of mint green. Following it, she wound her way past stalls and restaurants. She was so intent on the Green Rabbit that she didn't notice that there were no rides surrounding her. Nor did she notice that she was drying out as she ran. In fact, she also didn't notice the person in her path until she had bounced off them. She staggered backwards with a gasp and blinked at the man who now lay on the ground, stunned.
His hair was blonde and spiked. He wore dark brown clothes and appeared to have a scaly tail wrapped around himself for protection. He blinked up at her with blue eyes. As he stood up, Alice apologised. Noticing a small black hat on the ground, Alice picked it up and handed it to him. As she did so, she noticed that the hat had scales. "Sorry," she said again. "Did you see the Green Rabbit pass by here?"
"Nej, I did not," said the man. "My name is Mat the Lizard."
"That's good," said Alice, dismissively. "I am awfully sorry about knocking you over."
"Don't worry about it," said another voice. Alice looked round and saw a man with pale hair and violet eyes. A puffin sat on his shoulder, staring at the scene impassively. The man had an unamused expression and his arms were crossed. He appeared to be clothes in ice. "He probably deserved it," he continued.
"Hey, you can make up for it by coming with us," said Mat with a grin. "Right, Emil?"
"Já," agreed Emil.
"Ah, I..." Alice bit her lip. She had already lost sight of the Green Rabbit so there seemed little point in hurrying off. And she had knocked the man over. "I suppose, I can accompany you. But only because this is an apology and a lady always apologises when she is in the wrong."
"This way," said Emil, still expressionless.
Alice followed the happy Mat and the serious Emil along a different path. They passed by several empty shops before they came to the foot of a ride. Alice gazed upwards at it – and up more. The ride they had taken her to was a drop tower. Her eyes widened and she guessed what they wanted.
"You... You want me to go on that thing?" she asked, dreading the reply.
"Ja! Let's go!" exclaimed Mat.
"I-I'd much rather not..." Alice said. But, before she could back away, Mat took her hand and pulled her forwards. They passed by the queuing area and approached the seats.
"I will operate the ride," said Emil as Mat pushed Alice into a seat.
"Then I will sit beside Alice!" said Mat and promptly did so.
She was about to stand up when Emil pulled down the safety barrier and locked Alice in. She shook her head. "No. I don't want to go on this." They didn't listen. Emil pulled down the safety barrier for Mat and returned to his booth. The puffin flew off his shoulder and alighted on top it, watching Mat and Alice.
The ride started and it jerked upwards. Alice gripped the barrier tightly and clung to it. She glared at the booth as if she could stop the ride with sheer will power. However, it continued upwards and she found herself watching the booth and the path shrink away from her.
Halfway up, a movement caught her eye and she saw something mint green near the foot of the tower. She gasped and leaned forward, trying to get a clear look. The Green Rabbit was standing still. She was now too far away to see his face but he seemed to be watching her.
"Ah! No! Stop the ride! Let me down!"
"Hvad? Hvorfor?" asked Mat.
Although Alice didn't know the language, she knew what he was asking. "The Green Rabbit is down there! I need to get down!"
"Undskyld. We cannot stop now!" Mat grinned at her. "You should put your arms in the air."
"What?"
"Like this." Mat demonstrated, throwing his arms upwards. Frowning, Alice did the same.
It was at that moment the gondola dropped. Alice opened her mouth to gasp but it came out as a scream instead. She squeezed her eyes shut and forced her arms back down so she could cling to the barrier.
With a jerk, the ride halted. Alice took a deep breath and opened her watering eyes. Noticing that she was still several feet up, she clicked her tongue. "How much longer must I put up with this!" she snapped.
"A few more times and then it will be over," replied Mat, happily.
"Tsk!"
As they rose again, Alice glanced around, fearful that she would lose the Green Rabbit again. However, she spotted his mint green shape and breathed a sigh of relief. This was short-lived, however, when the ride reached the top and dropped once again.
After the ride had dropped Alice several times, it finally stopped. As soon as Emil released her, she hurried off, not paying attention to what Mat was saying. When she got down from the area for the ride, she spotted the mint green of the bunny not far away. However, he was moving once again. She turned and ran after it, sure she could catch it if she ran as fast as she possibly could. Her feet pounded against the colourful path in her chase.
Briefly, she wondered why she was chasing him. But then she remembered that it was essential to stop him. She shook all thoughts from her head and focused on keeping her eyes on the rabbit.
She must not be distracted or she would lose him.
It's kinda hard to describe the characters in this. Especially when there aren't any real descriptions of some of the characters in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Sealand = Jubjub Bird. Which is the bird which carries off Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum in the most recent movie. On Wikipedia it mentioned there was a shrieking accompanied with him or something and I thought of Sealand. Heh. The colours are from the film.
Japan = Dodo. I have no idea why I made Japan the Dodo. I decided on who everyone would represent quite a while ago.
Holy Roman Empire (the wee blonde boy) = Duck. In Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, the Duck represented a reverend who was present at a boating trip that Alice Liddell and her sister were at. I thought of HRE as being the most religious sort of person to represent that character (what with having "holy" in his name). I decided not to have dressed as the bird in case it wasn't obvious who he was supposed to be.
Poland = Lory. I had no idea what a Lory was but I looked it up and - woah, is it bright! So I thought of Poland.
Molossia = Eaglet. Cause he's a micronation in America. America associated with eagles. Eaglet. Y'know?
Denmark = Bill the Lizard. I shortened his name so it was one syllable. If I remember rightly, he was knocked over by Alice. (Then sent down the chimney when Alice became big whilst in the White Rabbit's house. She kicked him back out. Probably accidentally.)
Iceland = Pat. Pat is a gardener in the original story and a friend of Bill the Lizard. Unfortunately, that's about all you know about him. There's no mention of a species. I decided on Iceland for this character mainly cause, if Norway was there, he'd just hit Denmark a lot, I would think.
The length of this chapter is uber short but, way back when I figured out the order of things, I had put in breaks for each chapter. So I decided to go with them.
EDIT!: Apparently I had already written down descriptions of what the characters would be wearing ages ago. But I forgot and didn't use them. These old ones seem better so I changed it so that they would be wearing them. Everything else is the same, though.
